21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / PlusToken exit scam moved 22,923 BTC on: August 20, 2019, 04:28:08 PM
Is anyone following this story and worried? Apparently the PlusToken crypto scheme moved $240 million in a total of four transactions. CipherTrace revealed that the platform involved Chinese nationals, the Chinese police and the company's cofounders.

If confirmed, this would be the largest crypto exit scam totaling a loss of $2.9 billion.

I agree. NULS is doing a pretty good job at this.

Why isn't NULS on the list?
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 76% of dark market using Bitcoin on: August 16, 2019, 07:31:10 PM
Where is the confirmation of this information? It seems to me that most of the dark market still uses USD

It has to do with ciphertrace's crypto tracing technology
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Token Staking Reward Sysytem: The SCO on: August 14, 2019, 02:59:28 AM
While looking on https://masternodes.online/ I've seen that coin listed on the first page. With two labels:
NULS-Consensus
NULS-Staking
I don't understand why most coins has other types.

The two have different values and weight I would imagine. Like a coin versus a token, I believe
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin so valuable just because it was first? on: August 12, 2019, 10:12:52 PM
I think it is so valuable because it was first and enough people jumped on the BTC bandwagon to protect the chain. People also got very invested in mining and seeing how much money they could make by doing so where as now chains are moving to staking system
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin mixers be considered illegal by worldwide governments? on: August 12, 2019, 10:07:37 PM
that's a great question and very likely. I know ciphertrace's technology is good enough to trace digital assets even if they did run through a mixer so idk if governments will use that to their advantage
28  Economy / Economics / Re: Crimes involving crypto have risen on: August 07, 2019, 10:19:39 PM
Have you checked out Ciphertraces' report as well detailing crypto crime? They release a new report every quarter https://ciphertrace.com/articles/q1-2019-cryptocurrency-anti-money-laundering-report/

30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin with a Clean Record on: August 07, 2019, 10:00:58 PM
What are your thoughts on Bitcoin that holds a shady past? BTC that has a dark transaction history attached to it often has gone through global money laundering exercises or terrorism-related activities. Even after a token has been exchanged a number of times the trail can still be traced thus putting the the owner at risk.

Will these 'Virgin bitcoin' be worth more? Can you wipe a BTC clean? I have so many questions.

32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: You can now build a Blockchain in under 10 minutes on: August 06, 2019, 05:20:33 PM
I agree, there are some use cases better than others for those that should apply blockchain. NULS recently shared two use cases on their blog the Enterprise Digital Alliance and NAER who are creating payment certificates. Both being built with their Chainbox application https://medium.com/@nuls/partner-news-b1402df325c4

35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Machine Learning is Needed to Detect Money Laundering on: August 06, 2019, 04:18:25 PM
I wonder how that will work. Machine learning requires a ton of good data as an input, so the network can learn the patterns and then see them in any data, but where did these companies get a huge list of money laundering transactions? And how can we be sure that they don't screw things up and start labeling as money launderers innocent people who use mixers to get more privacy?

That is a good point. Would it make sense that these machine learning capabilities only be available to public blockchains say like Bitcoin or Ethereum versus private ones? I would be interested in understanding how they separate innocent people versus those that are using mixers to get more privacy. My guess is movements in and out of exchanges and movements of money across countries quickly.

38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / People and Computers on: July 19, 2019, 12:59:04 AM
Crypto OG David Chaum says it best at a recent conference in Zurich

"People are either in control of the computers they interact with every day in a democratic manner, or computers are manipulated by a small fraction of the population against the rest of us. Lately, we have increasingly seen the 2nd of these two scenarios take hold, but it doesn’t have to be that way."

Thoughts?
