In dealing with bitcoin related stuff (miners, casascius coins, etc) what is the preferred way to ship these internationally (US as source location)?
Are there custom fees that the seller needs to pay? Do these fees vary depending on the declared value of the item? For example would shipping a 0.1BTC casascius coin oversees differ in price than a 10BTC coin?
Do people tend to fully insure these items at full value, or does that raise suspicion? For example shipping a very expensive miner and declaring it for $30,000.

I've used escrow on this forum before for trading securities (friedcat shares), but how does escrow work for buying/selling physical items?
Does the seller mail the item to the escrow while the buyer pays to the escrow? And then the escrow is responsible for mailing the item to the buyer?
Also haven't been active in a while. Any ideas who are the most popular escrows these days?
Thanks.

These coins are in very good condition, though there are some minor smudges on the exterior of the plastic casing. The 1btc coins have been in cases ever since I received them and the 25btc has been in the plastic pouch that mike caldwell included. I just purchased a plastic airtight case for the 25btc coin off ebay, and it will come with that. Shipping is free for the 1BTC coins via USPS Priority. 2011 25BTC Coin - sold2012 1BTC Coin with case/white ring - sold2013 1BTC Coin with case/black ring - soldI live in SF and work in South Bay. Local meetups can also be arranged. Accepting BTC Only. Escrow accepted, but buyer pays fees. high-res images: http://imgur.com/a/WMJ4zThanks!

Casascius coins have always had a pretty hefty premium above its sticker price. 1 BTC coin roughly went for around 1.3-1.4 btc each.
Its funny you ask that, because the dude selling physical litecoins has more than a double-value markup. I always thought Casascius marked up his items pretty fairly since he was selling them basically "at cost" (value of the load on the bitcoin). The Litecoin dude is just raping people to death for profit. -B- It was probably "at cost" when market value was $20, but that is no longer the case now. So definitely not sure how their values will hold up long term as btc prices continue to grow.

|
I hope you realize the markup wasn't a percentage
It sort of is though. Casascius never decreased the coin price often enough to match the increasing market price of bitcoins. And since these coins were always priced in BTC, it is possible they will stay in value relative to BTC, not USD.

Then on the other hand, if casascius really never makes any more coins, the value could shoot up as well.

Casascius coins have always had a pretty hefty premium above its sticker price. Do you guys think the premium will drop as the price per bitcoin with USD increases?
1 BTC coin roughly went for around 1.3-1.4 btc each. Once bitcoin reaches 5k+ will people really be willing to pay 1500-$2000 additional for the coin? Or do you think 1BTC coins will drop in value to something like 1.05BTC etc?
If the latter is true, wouldn't it be best to exchange/sell casascius coins if you are long term holder? Especially if you own larger coins like 10BTC/25BTC versions.

You definitely can invest in USD/Euro. That is what people do on forex...

So you are essentially storing the wallet private key on either the sim card or the memory card of the phone? In that case, you don't even need the phone really... Sounds the same as storing it on a usb stick no?

Always using mtgox numbers?

You can just pay to the same address where the shares are held: 18v4knFXG5z8tu6jg6ENSBnixska2nx1Zn
Otherwise let me know if you are interested in escrow.

Selling 1 AM direct share. Auction price starts at 2.5 BTC. Minimum increment of 0.01 BTCInstant buyout price 2.99 BTC. Timer removed. End time: 2013-08-29+15:00:00UTC I would prefer to not use escrow, but if you insist, I accept TAT or John K. as long as you pay for fees. Once payment is received by Escrow and my message for share transfer to Friedcat is sent, the deal is non refundable. Direct shares tend to take 1-2 weeks for the transfer to completely finish. My address with the share: 18v4knFXG5z8tu6jg6ENSBnixska2nx1Zn A previous auction I did with the same address: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=224459.0Message: vesper39 owner of 1 am direct share as of august 29. ^ Same thing with me. I withdrew a large amount of BTC that required manual processing.
I got the process complete email and the btc are gone from btct wallet, but nothing on blockchain has appeared yet. Hopefully it gets resolved soon.

I assume this is the same issue as before? Part of the dividends that were sent out were from recently mined btc by AM. Recently mined bitcoins take 100 confirmations before they can be confirmed through the blockchain. EDIT: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Confirmation - read last paragraph

if you look at the performance of the other IPOs (Lab, Active, Basic), you see the future of Garden. Down, down they go.
So, basically, you have a spike right after IPO, then it is down hill from there.
Yeah, I am not trading my AM shares for that ridiculous nonsense. You will see these investors come back to AM once news is released about new revenue.
Well if you consider AMC as part of Active, didn't they IPO at 0.0006 on bitfunder? That's a 10-fold increase, so I wouldn't call the performance going down... Lab has been going down, but it is still 80% higher than IPO prices.
