21  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is this PSU Connection Correct for Avalon 741 with x7 Breakout Board? on: October 07, 2017, 03:07:03 AM
Oh I see it now on the actual green sticker on the PSU.  Output is 900watts when input is 110-120v.  Ugh.  Ok, I guess I need to wait for my electrician to get the 220v line installed if I want to use these suckers.

Set the miner to -2. Like my photo shows.

I believe the psu can run at the lower setting.

If it powers off at -2. Then wait for a 240 volt line

Thanks philipma1957.  I was running two of them at the -2 setting.  They would run for about 20 minutes and then shut off.  Now i'm running just one miner with two Corsair 650w and its running perfectly.  But yes, I will wait for the electrician to run the hp psus.

Guys,
Is this wiring correct (pic below)?  Right now, LED1 is yellow, LED2 is green.  I have two running daisy chained together into the Avalon controller.  They've been running, but every 20 minutes or so, one psu shuts down and all LEDs go to yellow.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/152844983@N06/37493504356/in/dateposted-public/

Just to explain the pic a bit more, each set of 3 PCI-e cables goes to a separate card on the Avalon 741.

Thanks,
Steve

what volts are you using?

that psu   does 900 watts at 120 volts
it does 1200 watts at 240 volts.

I am using this one: https://minerwarez.com/collections/psus/products/1200-watt-psu-with-breakout-boards-and-pci-e-cables - it says "The kit is compatible with both 110-120v & 200v-240v."

As usual, you guys are awesome.  I'm currently trying my 1200 watt psus again and I will lower the wattage.  Is this wiring correct?

Thanks for screenshot on voltage.  You think my PSU will stop crapping out if I put on lowest setting?

Crap, really (about the Corsairs)?  This is what I bought: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-cx-m-series-650w-atx12v-2-4-eps12v-2-92-modular-power-supply-matte-black/5845214.p?skuId=5845214&cmp=RMX&extStoreId=1022&ref=212&loc=1&ksid=947faa22-bfbf-4195-b95f-7a8ec18d011c&ksprof_id=8&ksaffcode=pg199269&ksdevice=m&lsft=ref:212,loc:2

I can take them back if they are wrong.

Just to clarify.  I'm working with two different PSUs here.  I bought a couple 1200 watt from Minerwarez (pic 1) and then I wanted to try the Corsairs 650w (pic 2).  The 1200w is crapping out and the Corsairs don't seem to have correct wire slots?
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Two PSU Issues on: October 06, 2017, 09:31:54 PM
Its me again.  Still working on the home mine and thanking God for this forum once an hour.  Wink  Anyway, I finally got an Avalon 741 up and running late last night.  Hooked it up to Slushpool and it actually started mining for about 5 minutes.  Then, the 1200w PSU gave out.  My electrician is not due to hook me up with proper 220v 30amp circuits for another week, so I was just trying to get 1 miner up and running in order to learn. I plugged it into regular 15amp circuit 120v, and it began spinning up.  I've heard that there is maybe a switch or something I can possibly change to allow the miner to run at a lower voltage?  Is that correct?  I've included a pic of my 1200 watt PSU with breaker board.

Secondly, I also purchased two 650 corsair PSUs with the intent of powering one board a piece on one Avalon 741.  However, I dont understand the wiring (pic included).  There are two PCI-e slots on the PSU.  Do I need to use one of the slots from the "Peripheral and SATA" sections?   If so, the PSU did not come with a 3rd cable, so I suppose i need to buy another?

Edit: PICS: https://www.flickr.com/photos/152844983@N06/

As always, thanks philipma1957  - i think i just figured it out.  I plugged it directly into my router and my router assigned it an IP.  Now I can access the http front end again.  Back in business Smiley
29  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Problem with My Avalon Controller on: October 06, 2017, 02:13:32 AM
have you tried  advanced ip.

it shows  everything  on your network.

barring that  you need to flash the card again .

i can look for the link

and you are fucked  for the moment as the website is down

https://canaan.io/

sorry

do you live close to New Jersey I could mail a card to you.

I have a spare already programmed

Yeah, I downloaded Advanced IP and scanned.  Only one IP with 192.168.0.* is showing up on my network and thats the ethernet connection.  I did find this link: https://canaan.io/question/how-can-i-change-my-avalonminer-controller-or-raspberry-pi-1-2-or-3-from-default-static-ip-address-to-automatic-dhcp-ip-address/

Does this mean I can just hook the controller up to a monitor with and HDMI cable and keyboard and modify the network setting file?  Is it that easy or do I need some software installed?  I'm a windows guy, so I'm not sure how I would bring up the raspberry interface.
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Problem with My Avalon Controller on: October 06, 2017, 01:10:32 AM
So, I was finally able to set up my Avalon controller.  I navigated to it at 192.168.0.100 and began adding pool information.  While playing with the setting *I think* I changed the hard-coded TCP/IP settings.  I believe I blanked out the DNS Gateway setting.  Now, I cannot access the controller anymore through http.  Do you guys think I need to reset the controller?  If so, how can I do that? Yes, I'm pissed at myself.

phillipma1957 - you are the bomb!  I did not explain myself completely.  Luckily I have just been in "talks" with the electrician and he has not done anything yet.  Also, I havn't purchased the PDU yet.  My only real fuck up was purchasing the two 120v power supplies from minerwarez.  Ugh, oh well, I can probably just throw them on Ebay.

Ok, you have set me straight and I appreciate it!  I will talk with the electrician about running two 30 amps.  btw - he did recommend using 6 gauge wire for a 50 amp.  Anyway, I will find the PDUs I want and show them to the electrician.

Steve

look above those you purchased from minerware will work

now get some of these from parallelminer

use slush for a discount   1 will run 2 avalons

these cables
will go from the pdu  I picked  to the psu you picked

the setup  will have 2 pdus  2 wall plugs each to  a 30 amp breaker in the wall  make sure 10 gauge

each pdu  can do 5200-5500 watts

4 avalon  each pdu  8 avalon total balls to the wall  +1

Just to wrap this up.  I want to thank everyone who chimed in.  I will send pics during setup and after.  I will follow philipma1957's instructions.  Thanks again for all your help.  To answer that last question about the PDUs I already purchased, I made yet another mistake.  I thought they were 120v only, but it looks like it also supports 240v as well: https://minerwarez.com/collections/psus/products/1200-watt-psu-with-breakout-boards-and-pci-e-cables  So, long story short, I will go back to the electrician and get another quote to run two 30 amp lines which terminate into the two L6-30R outlets which philipma1957 recommended above. Also, as an FYI my electrician was going to charge me $550 to run the 50 amp line.  That included 75ft of #6 cable and about 4 cuts (within my house), and "tie in breaker, and computer rack".  I thought that was pretty cheap, but I don't have a ton of experience w/ electricians.  I will go back now and see how much he will charge for the two 30 amp lines.

Thanks again!

Lol.  Yes, I probably did fuck up.  But I thought a PDU had the ability to fan out power?  TO basically control the amount of power to each outlet on the strip, no?
34  Bitcoin / Hardware / Confused About 120v versus 240v and PDUs on: September 28, 2017, 02:40:25 AM
I am a noob starting an in-home mine utilizing 5 Avalon 741s.  I've posted previously and gotten some great feedback.  But now, I'm realizing that I don't fully understand something which is probably fundamental.  Here it goes...

So, I've talked to an electrician.  Because I will need to consume about 5500 watts for the 5 Avalon's, and because I would like plenty of room for expansion, we agreed to run a 50amp 240v line from my subpanel.  If my math is correct, this should provide 50x240 = 12,000 watts, right?  Now, here is where I get lost.  Rather than having the electrician create a bunch of outlets for me, I want him to install a PDU.  My questions are:

1) I don't know much about PDUs.  Can I throttle each "outlet" on the PDU to be 6 amps X 240v to give 1440 watts per outlet?
2) If I go this 240v route, does this mean I cannot use two 120v Avalon power supplies which I already purchased?  My power supplies will have to be rated for 240v, right?
3) Can anyone recommend a PDU to plug into my 50amp 240v line?  Should I be looking for 1 or 2 pdus?

I'm kinda lost on PDUs.

Thanks,
Steve

I don't see the specs listed on CFM for the 741's but I would want at least 4" of duct size for each one as that is about how big they are so as not to cause a restriction maybe even 5"

I would think if all 5 are going into one duct it would need to be about a foot in diameter so as to not cause restriction.

I hope your cellar is sealed well and away from things. The miners are about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. I had one running in my office of a 3000 sq ft house and with the door closed you could hear it anywhere in the house.

These things are not really designed to be ran in a home. I moved mine out to my detached shop. It runs fine out there with no AC but it is a huge shop and one unit can't heat it up. A bunch of them in a small space will make it very hot in there.

We have a pond about 150' away from my shop that we fish in during the evenings. Sitting at the pond fishing when it is quiet I can hear the miner running 150' away.

Thanks for your thoughts.  These are Avalons so they run about mid-60 decibals.  Sounds like you might be running Antminers which are mid 80s in decibals from what I have read and seen?  But yes, I am trying to account for noise as well.  I am thinking of lining my wine room w/ this Barium accoustic wall board which is supposed to help a ton for noise reduction.  The floor of the room is cement, but I will probably line the walls and ceiling with this stuff: http://www.homedepot.com/p/54-in-x-240-in-Acoustic-Insulation-Roll-7102-11054/302759769?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-BASE-PLA-D22-Insulation%7c&gclid=CjwKCAjw0qLOBRBUEiwAMG5xMPatrNJF84UwOBeTxw-EwqIck8vZYq_hKzW_8DX4gxtAD_N-87BR1hoCdEcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CLHY082hwdYCFYF3wQodgQIPcQ

3) I have one 20 amp circuit and the electrician will run one new 30 amp.  Does a PDU exist which I could plug both circuits into (for a total of 50amps?) and then fan out the power that way?  Is this the correct way to go?

I hope the 30 amp circuit he is running is 220 V - two 10ga hot wires plus a neutral and a ground.

Are you planning on running the miners on 110 or 220? You can only put one miner per 20 amp 110 circuit but you could run two on a 20 amp 220 circuit.

The larger wire and breaker are not that expensive relative to the cost of the electrician doing it. I would have him run larger wire and have at least 50 amps going in there.

Yes, he is going to run 220 V on the 30amp.  We also discussed a 40amp breaker and larger wire.  I'll probably just do that.  Thanks for your thoughts.
37  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Wiring for 5 Avalon 741s on: September 25, 2017, 07:12:00 PM
Guys,
Thanks so much for the input so far.  It has really helped.  The electrician came to my house yesterday and I am waiting on the quote.  I have begun thinking about how I will exhaust the heat from 5 miners.  What do you think of this idea?

1) Above the wine room ceiling runs the exhaust tube from a nearby bathroom.  I could easily patch into this by cutting a hole in the wine room ceiling. The tube exhausts out the side of my house.  Do you think a standard bathroom exhaust vent is too narrow to force the heat through (remember, its 5 Avalon 741s)?  Should I just bite the bullet in run a separate exhaust vent out the side of my house?  This would probably be a huge PITA, but maybe its the correct way to go?
2) Also, I will be creating a hot and cold side for the 5x5 wine room.  I have a 1200 watt A/C unit that could feed the cold side, but that would just jack up my power bill even more.  There is a nearby basement window?  Could I just feed cold air through there, except on hot summer days?  Not real sure how to go here... maybe room temperature air is fine??

Finally, my last question....

3) I have one 20 amp circuit and the electrician will run one new 30 amp.  Does a PDU exist which I could plug both circuits into (for a total of 50amps?) and then fan out the power that way?  Is this the correct way to go?

Thanks for your help.

You guys are kinda scaring me.  I'm new to mining and I just ordered 5 from the September 30th batch.  My friend ordered 10.  This was through minerwarez.com.  I did communicate back and forth a few times with support staff.  They did actually respond when I asked them to consolidate my order (I made 3 seperate orders) to save on shipping costs.  Support personnel said they would do that for me, but when I woke up this morning, my credit card had been charged 3 seperate times.  Ugh.  All my emails went through sales at minerwarez.com

Question for you guys: how long does it normally take for delivery from batch date?  Do you think I will have to wait 1 month from Sept 30th?

edit: i forgot to add that I had originally placed smaller orders directly on canaan's site for the August batch.  However, like you guys, I never heard anything until the emails last night from Steve at Canaan.  So, they completely ignored those orders.  It sounds like they are completely inundated.

I have 5 Avalon 741s on the way.  I am converting a useless 5'x5' wine closet (I don't drink enough wine Undecided) into a mining room.  There is one 20 amp line & outlet which runs into the room (20A x 120V =) 2400 watts.  I have the following questions.  Also, I am thinking of hiring an electrician to run two more 20 amp lines to the room.

1) Will I be able to run two miners off of a 20amp outlet?
2) Are two more 20amp lines enough to run all 5 of my miners?

Thanks for your help!
