21  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Catalyst 13.4 screwed 7970, how to sort out? on: June 18, 2013, 08:36:09 PM
I tried running CGMiner with verbose output and even without doing anything (I was doing this):

Code:
cgminer --benchmark -D --verbose 2>logfile.txt

this is the entire extent of the logfile:

Code:
 [2013-06-18 21:13:10] Started cgminer 3.1.0

Clearly this is not giving much away but I guess it does tell us that it's quite early on in what cgminer does to set things up...

System restore back to before you did the AMD update and see where that takes you.

Good suggestion but you guessed it, no restore to restore from.  Shocked

give me 2 hours max, some reward and remote access(vnc/teamviewer) to ur pc and u will be hashing again at ur original rate or higher.

Well I have about 50 PPcoins but not in a position to mine anything new now! I can't offer access to the PC as it has work stuff on it & I'd get dragged over hot coals if something got trashed. If you have suggestions I'm happy to try them & if you provide the solution that works for me, give me a PPC address & they're yours.

Thanks for the suggestion about the SDK but that made no difference.  Sad

I did find this crash report, no idea what most of it is all about but it does refer to a module name:

26  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Catalyst 13.4 screwed 7970, how to sort out? on: June 18, 2013, 06:54:44 PM
For once I decided to give my 7970 a rest & play a game which informed me that my driver was out of date so without think I just clicked the upgrade.

It seems that Catalyst 13.4 simply blew my VTX HD 7970 bios away, disabled the over clocking and screwed up the custom fan settings. Why the hell don't AMD at least offer you the option to leave this stuff alone!

At this point I could still mine coins but SHA256 lost about 15% and scrypt about 50% with no ability to over clock. Even with the (now) hard wired fan setting the card ramped up the heat really quickly running 10+ degs hotter doing less.

Thinking I could get around this I re-blew the bios myself but I got the wrong rom. Doh! Realising this I blew it again with what I believe to be the correct one.

I also went back to Catalyst 13.1. MS After burner reports the ability to change settings on the card is now back so that's good.

Now as soon as I try to get CGminer to do some mining (scrypt or SHA256) Windows 7 informs me that CGminer has crashed.

One possibility is that I've semi-killed the card but I seem to be able to run Windows the same as usual, just I can't mine any more. I tried upgrading to the latest stable CGminer (3.1) and no joy.

Suggestions to find the solution anyone?

OK, I did get a reply and I then checked the pools I'd tried and they had then paid out so it is thumbs up.

Wish I'd seen this earlier. Been trying a whole bunch of coins to mine and quite a few times I ended up on a pool by this outfit.

I have sent an email to ask what the issue is, only a few hours ago so I'm not quite ready to damn them yet but I'm not holding my breath. It seems daft that they would do this, I'd point 10 times as much stuff for a huge time their way if it paid normally. I don't understand why they'd not fix it.

Treat with caution unless you hear otherwise would be my advice. I've removed all the script files I had pointing at them to my 'do not use' folder. Shame.  Huh

There are a few wallets but I thought most let you decide if you want to pay the transaction fee. That fee is meant to speed up your transfer so, if you want the coins to get there today, pay the fee I gather.

Hey, me new too. Well, new-ish. Mostly been lurking for ages to read all about it.
37  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: "Confirmed" transactions now "unconfirmed" + worse with Electrum 1.7.3 on: May 14, 2013, 06:13:46 PM
Thanks for your help. I looked at the forum entry https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=100502.540
and tried renaming the .dat file and blockchain file neither of which solved it. I then tried using the seeds and that failed too and I had my seeds wrong. Fear was running high at this point and I restored the old files, was about to try the seeds again when everything was now confirmed! I then managed to find the mistake in the seed too.

So thanks everyone!

I notice this: http://bitcoin.org/may15.html

Could it be that I need to wait until the mining pools have updated or does Electrum need to do something. I will be very annoyed if this has made my wallet useless.

Anyone?
39  Bitcoin / Electrum / "Confirmed" transactions now "unconfirmed" + worse with Electrum 1.7.3 on: May 14, 2013, 07:22:21 AM
I have been trying out mining for a few months, using Electrum as my wallet & all was well until about 5 payments ago.

I noticed a day or so ago that the last 5 were still staying "pending". I was using a slightly older version of Electrum (probably 1.7.2). At least all the transactions before this were remaining confirmed. I thought perhaps I needed to update Electrum so I did that. Nightmare, now all of the transactions (to/from all addresses in the wallet, everything) are displayed as "pending". Help! What's going on please anyone?
