"Confirmed" transactions now "unconfirmed" + worse with Electrum 1.7.3

I have been trying out mining for a few months, using Electrum as my wallet & all was well until about 5 payments ago.

I noticed a day or so ago that the last 5 were still staying "pending". I was using a slightly older version of Electrum (probably 1.7.2). At least all the transactions before this were remaining confirmed. I thought perhaps I needed to update Electrum so I did that. Nightmare, now all of the transactions (to/from all addresses in the wallet, everything) are displayed as "pending". Help! What's going on please anyone?

Could it be that I need to wait until the mining pools have updated or does Electrum need to do something. I will be very annoyed if this has made my wallet useless.

I don't know much about Electrum.  I cross-posted your question to the Electrum sub-forum for you here:

if you upgraded from a version < 1.7, it will redownload all transactions and verify them.
that should resolve itself; if not, restart the client.

Thanks for your help. I looked at the forum entry https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=100502.540
and tried renaming the .dat file and blockchain file neither of which solved it. I then tried using the seeds and that failed too and I had my seeds wrong. Fear was running high at this point and I restored the old files, was about to try the seeds again when everything was now confirmed! I then managed to find the mistake in the seed too.
