Thank you Moolah! Awesome!

Wow! Paying on Amazon with VTC (yes, with digipay.io in between but I'm happy with that)!
Absolutely awesome!

Now I would buy more if Bitcoin.de would allow me to send my BTC! They're keeping(correction: holding it temporarily) it just like Mt.Gox, sigh.

Glad I'm mining as well.

VTC price will skyrocket again during period late Feb - early March. 0.015-0.025 will be normal exchange rate.

Vilgem,

Out of sheer curiosity; how did you come to this conclusion?

(Note: I'm not saying this is or isn't true, I'd just like to know how you determined this.)

Difficulty just jumped from 122 to 132? Interesting...

I have finally managed to start P2P node on my own, however, I can't run intensity higher than 13 now and HW are killing me. So with I13 my hasrate went down from 450kh/s per card to 320 per card..don't know what the point of running own node is then  Huh
is it RAM hungry process?

point of running your own node is security and decentralization of hashrate. You don't depend on minimal payouts or possible operator scam

Do You think If I add some RAM I will be able to keep my settings(khas) and mine on own nod?

mattbigblue, I don't think it's that memory hungry. My p2pool's stats page says it uses 178MB right now, I'll double check as soon as I'm near the machine.

Also I can easily switch pools from cgminer, from classic pools to other p2pools to my own p2pool without changing anything. Hashrate is constant.

So from my pov your p2pool shouldn't be the cause of your hashing problems... Have you tried switching pools from inside cgminer?

Hmm, the explorer has been down for hors now (again), does anyone know whats going on there?

Guys I see your point by saying we need illustrations that make people connect with vertcoin.
Please do not bring this into ridicule. There are some very serious graphics with nice messages.
Stand off this astronaut guy or this too childish comic stuff.
DOGE coin was successful because it was more or less the first in the place with a funny message. Nevertheless, it had quite some support in its early stages that made it boost.
What should be a core message of every picture is integrity. I don't see that if we on the one hand publish serious pictures with a very ambitious message and on the other hand throw out some astronauts and whatever...

I agree. For payments in a store for instance I'd prefer something abstract over a cartoon character.

For people running P2Pool with P2PoolExtendedFrontEnd and who keep getting "Error in DeferredResource handler:" errors when the Graphs page is called,

Buzztiaan fixed them:
https://github.com/buzztiaan/P2PoolExtendedFrontEnd

Might be nice to slap the (to be chosen) VertCoin logos onto it though, right now there's a few big LiteCoin logos on it.
Edit: And a lighter logo might be nice as a background, http://imgur.com/a/hpYHw

Gonzo,

Well that was exactly what I was afraid of since I run into this problem as well... Trying to summarize a fairly complex idea when the receiving end doesn't know the terminology is very difficult.

Fortunately the people you mention already know something of cryptocoins, it shouldn't be hard for them to see what the release of ASICs did with the difficulty if you show them the difficulty graph.

So showing them that this was caused by the few companies that can make ASICs should help to explain why this causes centralisation.

I'll google with you to see if someone has already put something up somewhere.

mv1986 and gonzzo,

This might come across as rude, but please don't see it that way,
I'm guessing Boris will be pretty busy with the technical side of things.
You might be able to save him some time if you could specify what isn't clear in the following quotes:

From the first page of this thread:
Quote
What is Vertcoin?

Vertcoin is a cryptographic currency, similar to Bitcoin and Litecoin, with one major difference.  As the forerunner of the digital currency movement, the original Bitcoin developers were unable to perceive all potential threats that would arise to challenge it's mission as a decentralized currency.

Millions of dollars were spent by various companies to build application specific integrated circuit (ASIC)  computers in an attempt to monopolize mining.  These devices made it so GPUs and CPUs were no longer useful in the mining process.  As a result, the vast majority of Bitcoin mining and transactions would now be processed by large data centers that required hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars in investment.

Now that Bitcoin computational power is handled almost entirely by large data centers, the currency has rapidly changed from a distributed, decentralized currency, to one that is much more centralized and vulnerable.  Companies such as Cex.io are routinely hitting 40% PoW computational power on a daily basis, and will soon be able to perform 51% attacks at will, if they so choose.

Due to the problems ASIC chips brought on the digital currency platform, a new currency, Litecoin was created.  Litecoin attempted to utilize the Scrypt hashing algorithm, which is more memory intensive than SHA256, to deter ASIC use.  As of January 2014, there are now Scrypt ASIC chips being deployed by the Chinese for mining.  So far, around 1000 Mhash of Gridseed ASIC chips have been brought online and used on the litecoin and middlecoin.com network.

The Chinese chips have not been released on the greater market at large, but eventually they will, and the same problems that SHA256 currency faces will come to the Litecoin and other Scrypt currency networks next.

Where does Vertcoin fit into this?

Scrypt was utilized by Litecoin to try and deter ASIC use because large memory requirements are the best way to try and make ASIC financially unfeasible.  Litecoin held out for a while, but the original memory requirements in the barebone litecoin distribution were just not high enough to lock out ASIC completely.

Vertcoin has now been released as the logical evolution of Litecoin and introduces what's known as "Adaptive N-Factor".  The N-factor component of Scrypt determines how much memory is required to compute the hashing functions.  Vertcoin N-factor increases with time to stay one step ahead of any possible ASIC development.

For the long, foreseeable future, GPU computing will be the fastest method of computation for Vertcoin, but CPU computation will eventually make gains as N-factor increases.

And from vertcoin.org:
Quote
As digital currencies mature, mining power is being concentrated due to ASIC farms and huge multipools.
This weakens security for us all.

Vertcoins algorithm has been designed to resist the development of custom mining hardware, and multipool mining ensuring that transactions are validated by a widely distributed network and avoiding the selling pressure when large mining pools indiscriminately flood the market with freshly mined coins.

Now you specifically mentioned that it is intended for amateurs mostly, and that it has to be in a nutshell.
I'm guessing most people don't know what an ASIC is. This will be fairly hard to explain in a few lines.

Hi

Just wondering if there's a rough estimate of VTC/Mh out there? Else, could anyone enlighten me as to the best profitability formula to use for VTC, I can't seem to find any anywhere Sad
Anyone care englightening me on the above please? :-(

Hashrate(in kH/s)/difficulty=VTC,  seems to work quite nicely...

https://moolah.ch/ is adding us to their merchant platform and we should be live tomorrow. This enables easy, fast VTC stores to be created, and makes the first VTC ATM not so far away - see https://moolah.ch/atm

Thanks Moolah!

That is awesome! Hope to see one IRL some time!

Hey guys,

check out VertcoinMarket.com the very first Vertcoin crowdfunding site. Right now it is focused on projects that help to raise awareness for Vertcoin and build the ecosystem. I will make a proper announcement tomorrow.

If you want to actively help to spread the word about Vertcoin get involved or simply donate some VTC.

We have quite a small army of people who work on the ecosystem. If you have any VTC related idea and look for support or funding, come over to join us.

Just sent something to the Press Release project! (Well all that was left in my wallet actually - more to follow.)

Excellent initiative! Love it!

Maxcoin scams are going to launch stacycoin. Expect low hashrate next week to mine more VTC.

Wait, that incompetent bunch is going for it again? Going to need some more popcorn.

im trying to run an intensity flag on my gtx 670 but eveytime i try the mcd just insta closes on me

how do i write k7x32 on my bat file

rsx19,

You might have more luck in the Vertcoin setting thread:

(And I have no experience with CUDA at all, sorry)

Hmm. Difficulty seems to be going up again.
As does the BTC/USD rate. Good.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTC] Vertcoin - Adaptive N-factor in Scrypt - No more ASICs on: February 09, 2014, 05:48:34 AM
I'm treating it differently. Sold doge, smc, sat and utc, bought vtc, mining vtc and holding.

I believe in the technical superiority of this coin.

(And have been mining Litecoins for months before that. Stopped LTC early january.)
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTC] Vertcoin - Adaptive N-factor in Scrypt - No more ASICs on: February 09, 2014, 03:47:17 AM
i see it's already there in cryptsy. good coin.

Coinedup has dramatically improved the last couple days and I highly recommend moving your money to there or poloniex. This nonsense about deposits and withdrawal being "under maintenance" is probably some sort of price manipulation.  Dont know but that site blows and you have a lot of alternatives.  Bter.com also.

coinedup working great since last-nights server reboot

Oh wow... It is! Less than a second, even on my tablet!

I can not synchronize my wallet, can someone help me?

Did you follow the instructions to add nodes in the first post of the thread? Try that if you haven't.
I do not know how to create the file. Can you help me?

Alinuxandre,

Just make a text file (in notepad if you use windows) and name it vertcoin.conf, then select all the addnode lines on the first page of this thread, and copy them.

Paste them in vertcoin.conf.

Save the file (ignore the warnings about the file extension), and place it in c:\users\YOUR-NAME\appdata\roaming\vertcoin\

alinuxandre,

Have you added the addnode lines (see first page) to the Vertcoin.conf file?
