21  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Introducing "Coin Watcher" - 4 day free trial on: June 11, 2011, 12:41:58 AM
The same thing that keeps folks from sharing Netflix instant view log-ins. Basically, for most people saving $1.50/mo isn't worth stealing and/or the hassle Smiley

Not to mention that, if you think you might be looking to sell, even 1 person you reforward to being able to act before you would cost you more than your couple of bucks in savings.
22  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What's a fair price for 1.1GHash (sub-letting mining)? on: June 11, 2011, 12:40:19 AM
I just did an analysis on what I would pay and it wasn't something I'd expect you to be interested in.

The issue with leasing is you take on all of the risk (rapid increases in difficulty and/or rapid decreases in BTC price) without the safety net of owning the hardware.

If I go out and buy a sweet rig and in 30 days it's not generating profit then I'm out 20% of my investment, tops. In a lease situation it won't ever become completely unprofitable, but it could very realistically reach a point where I'm not making much more than whatever the power bill is on 1.1GHash.

This could be worth anywhere from $200 (at equilibrium pricing) to $1,600 if no one notices mining is profitable. Obviously it could go higher than $1,600 if the bitcoin price rallies, but under that assumption it's probably better to buy. Mining is very profitable right now, but market forces will correct it. I'd offer $1,000 for the 3 months and would consider it a very risky investment.
23  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: [SELLING] Safety_Bit, a MtGox application to auto-trade Bitcoin on: June 10, 2011, 09:23:37 PM
What price does it sell at? The current sell price? Does it adjust as it moves down in case it misses the sell price?
24  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SELLING: Put options for Sunday June 12 @ $20. on: June 10, 2011, 08:56:00 PM
Lots of resistance at $20 (as I'm sure you knew when you posted this). Still I could definitely see it being broken.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Introducing "Coin Watcher" - 4 day free trial on: June 10, 2011, 08:47:16 PM
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll think about the pricing. My thinking is that many of us now have hundred or thousands (if not much more) worth of BitCoins and $2-$6/mo is a pretty small price for a little security on those kind of amounts.
26  Economy / Economics / Re: When will bitcoin go to 400? on: June 10, 2011, 08:38:26 PM
I'm as big a bitcoin fan as anyone, but the "correct" answer has to be Never. If you think there's a greater than 50% chance of it hitting 400 in the next few years you should be buying every single bit you can afford because that would mean it's hugely undervalued right now.
27  Economy / Marketplace / Introducing "Coin Watcher" - 4 day free trial on: June 10, 2011, 08:14:19 PM
Hi guys, I've been a member of the Bitcoin community for around a month now. I've enjoyed it and have appreciated how smoothly all my transactions have gone so far.

I've launched a new service called the "Coin Watcher." You can read more about it here
http://coinwatcheralerts.blogspot.com/
but essentially it's a service that sends you an email or SMS alert whenever Bitcoins drop in value by a certain amount from the daily high (20%, 30%, 40%, or 50%).

I created this service because I found myself always worrying about my coins if I wasn't able to check the market every few hours. And I'd rather not be thinking about the market while I'm at dinner with friends, watching a movie, or even just watching TV at home.

It's a subscription service with a low fee (starting at .1 BTC/mo) BUT it's completely free to try (email alerts only) from now until 4PM eastern on Tuesday. I'm doing this to help promote the service and also because it's still in beta testing to make sure everything is running smoothly. Both the 20% and 30% drop alerts ran perfectly today.

To join the free trial, just go here and join the Google group. All alerts go to this group and will be forwarded on to your email immediately.
http://groups.google.com/group/coinwatcher

Let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy your weekends (hopefully now with a little extra peace of mind).

29  Other / Obsolete (buying) / WTB External Hard Drive on: June 09, 2011, 10:13:29 AM
500GB-1TB. Portable, decent quality, etc.

If you're interested, post or PM with what you have a price including shipping to SoCal.
30  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: WTB - gold/silver bullions/coins - preferably 1oz on: June 09, 2011, 02:46:24 AM
Well let's see...

I've got a 1 oz Panda that I'd be willing to part with. It's the millenium edition, year 2000. They list and sell for spot+$500 and up on eBay. I'd just be after spot+$250, I'll ship it registered for free. I like the Pandas (and the Australian Lunar series) because the mark-up isn't too bad but you still get some solid numismatic potential.

I have Krugerrands off and on a well. If I have one on hand I'd do spot + $50 + shipping.

I've also got a 10oz silver bar that is probably spoken for and a half dozen silver eagles. I usually do spot+$6-7ish but with free shipping. This is on par with Apmex except they add $13 s&h.
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Predicting a rally right now on: June 08, 2011, 11:44:22 PM
I've had a Dwolla deposit pending since Saturday. It finally went through today and was cleared about 15 minutes ago. In other words there is still weekend money flowing in and it looks like a big chunk of it just hit.

My cash cleared at $26.XX and we're now pushing $30. Just a heads-up.
32  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: have: pokerstars-$ want: bitcoins - will pay 5% markup on: June 08, 2011, 11:40:33 PM
Normally I would do it for a 10% mark-up, but frankly right now I'm not eager to let go of my bitcoins because my Mt. Gox account is empty.

I'll keep you posted though as I may be interested sometime very soon.

I actually started out trying to sell my PokerStars cash and then when NO ONE was buying I deicded "Forget it, I'll just buy some at a discount."
33  Other / Obsolete (selling) / 1 dozen aviator sunglasses - free shipping on: June 08, 2011, 10:46:26 PM
I'm selling one dozen pairs of metal-framed aviators for 1.2 BTC (about $30) and I'll include free priority shipping. These are standard aviators like what you'd see for sale in a souvenir shop, gas station, etc. These are the sunglasses you typically see in the $10-$30 price range.

They look almost exactly like this

but the lower center metal piece over the nose is flatter and goes straight into the frames around the lenses (vs sort of hooking down in the picture).

Color choices:
Gold frames w/ brown lenses
Silver frames w/ mirrored lenses (warning: VERY dark to see out of)
Combination of black and silver frames w/ black lenses (these are the same style as pictured above including the nose piece)

These are great for someone like me who loses sunglasses a couple times a month, or you can sell them in your store, let your kid set up a sunglasses stand, etc. These can definitely be turned around for a couple hundred bucks.

My eBay feedback is well over 600 and I've done trades with several folks on here who I can get to vouch for me.
34  Other / Archival / Re: Silk Road: anonymous marketplace. Feedback requested :) on: June 08, 2011, 09:44:57 PM
Anyone asking for invites in this thread is exactly the sort of fool that shouldn't be over on that site. Heck I'm a lot smarter and even I won't go over there.

Hint: there is no invite system! Someone mentioned it as a hypothetical and then 50 people chimed in asking for invites.
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mt. Gox competition? on: June 08, 2011, 09:39:51 PM
Does it exist? I appreciate all Mt. Gox has done for the bitcoin community, it's been a HUGE help.

At the same time, Mt. Gox received over $30,000 in transaction fees yesterday. That puts them on pace for close to a $1M/mo in revenue with VERY limited overhead.

Surely someone can beat this, no?
36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Faucet empty again? on: June 08, 2011, 07:58:50 AM
If I send a tx fee of .01 bitcoins how much would this affect processing time? Standard is around 20 minutes? Would it go through in just a couple minutes?
37  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: I will place your sticker on ctr. divider of freeway in Los Angeles for 1.49 BTC on: June 04, 2011, 08:28:15 AM
I will try to catch this guy and have him ticketed if I get 10 BTC in pledges for doing so.

Seriously though, I know it's just a sticker, but it's an eyesore and it's totally self-centered.
38  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: I have almost $10,000 worth of bitcoins to sell, at 10%+ discount to Mt Gox on: June 02, 2011, 06:40:21 AM
A mere $10,000 will hardly make a dent on the market. Based on a glance at https://mtgox.com/trade/history - Depth of Market, at the time of this writing you can sell them at >$8.8 / BTC. I don't think a dark pool is needed.

That's misleading. $10k will move it at least 50 cents I'm pretty sure. That's better for him than the 20 percent off he's offering, but it's definitely enough to make a dent (probably a mostly temporary one).
39  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin Double - Betting game with faster payouts. on: June 02, 2011, 06:24:00 AM
rlh, this is the Martingale system. It doesn't work. It's in violation of how math works. You're trading lots of tiny wins for the occasional huge loss.

No combination of losing bets will make a winning bet if each individual bet is a losing bet.

Haven't read exactly what he says here but the Wiz is very smart and addresses the Martingale a little bit down on this page http://www.wizardofodds.com/gambling/bettingsystems.html
40  Economy / Marketplace / Would you buy this t-shirt? Help design it. on: June 02, 2011, 06:01:57 AM
I've seen this idea on the board, but no one has made them. It's a basic t-shirt, probably with the bitcoin logo, that says "I bought this shirt when bitcoins were worth $__".

The price is kind of up for ideas. I'm thinking whole dollar pricing, written in with permanent market before it's sent (or left blank if you prefer). Printing it is an option, but written seems cooler to me, plus it allows for a larger order than ordering separate shirts for each price.

So,
1. Would you buy this?
2. Any input on design, phrasing, writing in the price, etc?
