I hate it when people flake, tends to happen a lot these days better just to do things yourself as much as possible.

Not unless it stops being so volatile. Even then you run the risk of governments seeing it as a threat and making it hard to do business to the point where it isn't worth the hassle. Who knows what will happen in the long run but thusfar crypto's are gaining in popularity so there might be something to it.

I believe, as do many others (obviously), that the biggest threat to Bitcoin and crypto's in general is from governments. And that is a very real threat because they can shut down pretty much everything and make it impossible to function as a miner/investor/whatever if they want. Until that threat subsides I wouldn't be too exposed and keep the bulk of your investments in more traditional vehicles.

A correction was due with the dramatic run-up in price over the past few months.
It's very tempting to sell after having made such a huge return over a short period of time when you hear a ton of people on traditional business networks and government authorities constantly casting doubt on cryptocurrencies.

Ended up finding the issue was the Pi and not the 2pac sticks. The slub_debug=FP fix outlined in the following thread seems to have done the trick for me and a few others experiencing the same problem- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494625.msg5932931#msg5932931So hopefully if anyone has the same problem and finds this thread it will save you searching through 5 billion posts and the inevitable condescending remarks when you ask for help from those who clearly have nothing else better to do with their life than troll people just trying to learn...

I have a RPi3 and am using 3 60 Watt plugable USB 2.0 hubs. I have 3 sticks plugged into each hub. The box said each hub was good for up to 10 amps. I am even following forum member fuzzys advice and keeping the sticks plugged in where the 5v regulator are.
Last night I discovered that when I transfer my display from my tv where to I like to do my editing to my touchscreen LCD on my pi, my /boot/config.txt was reset. So I went back and edited it on my small pi screen and re-saved it. after a few reboots, the file was still there on my pi screen. It has been running about 20 hours now with no errors which is pretty good for me. hopefully, this will have solved all my issues.
Hopefully it keeps going. My Pi has been running now for nearly 72 hours after doing the same fix which is way longer than it ever has before.

are you doing this to keep your pi cool, or is it for your 2pacs? My artic breeze USB fan is doing a wonderful job keeping my miners cool, but I have no fan on my pi. Could it be that my pi is overheating?
I thought the same thing and opened up the case for my Pi and placed it where airflow was better. I didn't make any difference. I would try it though never hurts.

How many bitcoins can I roughly mine per month if I get 5 of these?
How fast can a car go? How much is enough? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? It all depends on your system resources, your internet service, your geographical location to the node, or pool you are using, Your voltage and clock settings, How often, and for how long you are planning on running your mining devices, and the difficulty level of bitcoin. A lot of factors to consider. Stock hashrate is what 15gh/h per device I think so around 75gh? you can google bitcoin mining calculator and enter in 75gh to get a rough idea I guess. Hope that helps! You forgot to specify whether the swallow was African or European...

Hello All, I've been going through this thread trying to see any similar issues to what I'm seeing with no luck so far.
I have just setup a new RaspberrPi3 with the latest Raspian image. I have been able to get the vthoang cgminer 4.10 setup and working, and with two(2) 2pac on a powered USB hub the SW launches and logs into my pool with no problems. I'm running at the default freq of 100 for now. After some amt of time, anywhere from 2-6hrs the Pi seems to crash and is unreachable. I'm not exactly sure where to start to see what kind of problem I'm running into. the Pi is running headless so there is no screen to look at. Any suggestions?
I have the same exact problem and haven't been able to narrow down the issue despite trying. Sometimes it lasts a few hours and other times 24+ hours. Then randomly the 2pacs stop blinking and the Pi cannot be reached via VNC Viewer or Putty and I have to pull/plug the power to get it running again. I know that is not an answer to your question but figured it wouldn't hurt to know you are not the only one to have this problem. I may have caught it in the act earlier today when I saw the 2pacs all reducing their hashrate and going zombie but stopped it and restarted no problem. I should have let it play out to see if that was the issue but didn't think about it at the time. Yes, this is pretty much exactly what is happening to me. Did you happen to be watching the hashrate at the time? I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it or where to start. All I remember seeing is one stick registering as "SICK" and the others slowly reducing their hashrate. I remember seeing two around 800 MH/s and I think another was 200... Another odd thing is that after I stopped cgminer and attempted to restart the Pi using sudo reboot, it didn't restart. Once again I had to pull the plug and do a hard restart then as always everything started working again no problem. I wish I could figure it out but I just don't know enough yet to narrow it down further. I did re-flash the raspian image about a month ago to see if it would help but that didn't do anything.

looking forward to seeing what the A8 can do. i noticed they had a teaser for it on the blok forge home page: https://www.blokforge.com/PS does anyone set a custom range for their fan speed % on the 741? Thinking I may be able to tweak mine just a tad lower. I'm also looking forward to seeing what the A8 can do. I just missed the last batch of S9's but perhaps that could end up working in my favour. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Just spotted this post on instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Bcc_p2jl9Ro/when do you expect it? My guess is as good as the next man but I'm hoping Canaan make an announcement this month. (this week even ha ha) Would be awesome if we could also pre-order by January for Feb shipping or sooner. And hopefully it is over 14th/s and under 1400w required electricity. All speculation with crossed fingers. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Apparently it will be first quarter of 2018. A8 is also being teased on Blokforge - https://www.blokforge.com/Hopefully it will be towards the first part of the quarter rather than the later.

Log back in like you did the first time since it is back on static IP (I think) and enable "DHCP client" under NETWORK>INTERFACES>WAN(edit)>PROTOCOL. Did that for an old S3+ and haven't had an issue with it reverting back to static ever. No reason in my opinion to not be in DHCP for the average person, or at least not that I am aware of.

...Admittedly, it was a real bitch to compile cgminer of anykind for macOS, so I understand your pain. Keep trying, you'll get there. Just make sure you read the brew install error messages very carefully. Some of the module names are not the same as you have for apt-get in Linux/Ubuntu, so you'll have to try variations in brew to get them to install correctly.
Can't emphasise this enough. It was a breeze setting it up on a Pi (Debian), but on macOS, woowee I remember it feeling like a never-ending game of solve-one-error... then scour the some obscure github comments section for some alternate switch or package update... only to encounter another error, sigh... and repeat ![Cry](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cry.gif) It did work in the end though, so hang in there. Just hope I archived the cobbled how-to txt doc if I need to repeat the process in the future. Fingers crossed I won't as it's been chundling along happily on a pi zero for quite a while now. For the low price, they're a great option worth considering. My recommendation to everyone running a Mac is to go to Walmart or any other discount store and pick up a cheap laptop for $200 or less and be done with it.

What are you guys mining with these USB stickminers? They don't appear to make anything on Bitcoin due to low hash rate, am I right? I see these sold on HolyBitcoin.com for $65. A Bitmain Antminer S9 sells for $1415 or roughly 21.77x more.
Assume you buy 22 of these to equal the S9's price, that's 11 GH/sec times 22 = 242 GH/sec, compared with the S9's 11.5-14 TH/sec. So Hashpower per dollar isn't competitive. Just wondering what coins can be mined with these? I like the concept a lot since it is silent compared with a regular Antminer.
Thank you for any information.
I started out with these sticks but I got smart and ran the numbers just like you pointed out. If you want to actually earn Bitcoin it makes more sense to buy any used Antminer out there as far as I can tell. I think it appeals to people with limited space who see this more as a hobby than serious investment, but could be wrong. Just wait though until Sidehack comes out with his pod and then the numbers might shift the other way...

Well there's your problem. You're trying to pull a full amp through the port and the Pi doesn't like it. That's why basically everyone uses a powered hub.
It's odd that it has worked for a month, but is getting flakey now. I down-speed to 100 and it's working much better. Thanks Your issue will likely go away if you use a powered hub. I had similar problems using a cheap POS "powered" hub until I did some troubleshooting and found it was actually pulling the majority of power from my Pi. Up until then it would randomly crash... Now that I have an actual powered hub the problem has gone away. It's not expensive to get a Plugable hub off amazon, like $30.

Hi.
I have a problem getting my stickminer to work. The same thing happens all the time. The miner blinks two times with a white light (The green light is always on). Then I get the attached message. Any ide what I can try to do?
I dont know how to add a picture here. But it says: "Failed to open Device Parameters registry key in lowl-vcom.c _vcom_devinfo_scan_windows_hubport():556:System can not find the file
Did you run the instructions per the first post for your particular setup? My understanding is that covers pretty much everything minus sticks going zombie and possible HW failures. Looks like you might have skipped a step...

Me too, but as with any time I trust someone else to do part of the job, the one part of design I've left in someone else's hands is about a month behind schedule getting done. Grumble grumble.
So long as the end product is solid, (no reason to believe it won't be) it will be worth the wait.

Hello Friends, im new here.
Can anyone help me please. I need Gekko 2pac config with 150mhz for "cgminer.conf" i will start only with Command ->>> ./cgminer
i use RasPi 3 with respbian strech.
Put (--gekko-2pac-freq 150) at the end of the command prompt when you start cgminer. You can do 175/200 etc if your USB hub can handle it. Hopefully that answered your question. Make sure you have a fan on the 2pac when overclocking they get hot.

Thanks. A few of those steps are on my list of things to do should my current troubleshooting not work. I will get it figured out one way or the other.
