I am impressed by this attitude:

cons: 4 While it is a very expensive lesson for us, it is nevertheless a lesson.  it was our responsibility to safe guard user funds.

We should own up it. We will learn and improve.

The update regarding opening withdrawal comes from twitter. It kinda of is self-explanatory why only these three coins:

Hot Wallet is being topped up manually between 9AM-5PM (NZST) Monday-Friday.

This may mean previously the hot wallet was topped up automatically. Which would make the cold wallet a warm wallet. Which may be what screwed them.
(just speculation)

what you mean? did they already say that they will pay the equivalent in fiat at the time of hack?

You are obviously not paying attention. https://support.cryptopia.co.nz/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=48613b3cdb50338032a664a14a9619ba

If you held balances in coins that were lost in the event you will start to see Withdraws on your account for those coins. The TXID for the withdraw will not exist on the network but will detail how the coin was impacted in the event. For each withdraw you will also see a subsequent deposit of Cryptopia Loss Marker(CLM), the TXID for this will also not exist on a network but will detail the coin it represents a loss for. CLM is not a coin, it can't be traded as yet, it is just a number in the database that represents the loss for each coin for each user in $NZD at the time of the event. There are still steps to take to ensure we are taking a legal path toward reimbursement.

What did you thought we were ranting about?
24  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: April 07, 2019, 08:40:46 PM
If BTC pumps a little more they will wake up one day and say, Hey dudes you know what? We'll pay the btc value of 3 months ago. Cash problem solved.
Weren't you paying attention? They already did that.
25  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: April 07, 2019, 01:27:03 PM
And they are the reason behind the price pump or bull run?
No, they are not the reason behind the bull(ish) market. They just saw that the market improves and decided to replace the user's cryptos with some IOUs at a fictitious low value.
26  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: April 07, 2019, 06:59:48 AM
^ yea actual good point. I can appreciate how livid people would be in that scenario.
People are already livid, dude.

BTC is 5k and they forcibly bought us out at 3.5k (+43%)
ETH is 170 and they forcibly bought us out at 120 (+42%)
LTC is 95 and they forcibly bought us out at 30 (+200% !!)

And don't come sayin' it could have been the other way around. The forcibly part happened in March, when it was clear how the market was moving.

So... 51% attack?  Sad
29  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: April 04, 2019, 06:57:12 AM
Is it safe to trade on this exchange now ?
You can't deposit or withdraw. You can only trade in a closed environment, if you had balance prior to the hack and only the coins that have been enabled, which are listed here: https://support.cryptopia.co.nz/csm?id=kb_article&sys_id=3422c911db5c378032a664a14a96193c

Basically for now it is sort of a game of trading, not real trading. You trade, but since you can't withdraw or deposit, all you do is move the same coins from one holder to another.

Trading is suspended on Bittrex since March 26th. Is there something going on?

you should hope no lawsuit will be filed until you can put hands on your funds, or you will not see them again.
Stop repeating this stupidity. Companies get sued all the time and they do not stop paying or operating.

How are others treating similar incidents? Let's see how Bithumb is taking responsibility:

Bithumb exchange is certified ISMS and applied to multi-signature withdrawal scheme.
We constantly monitor and block external hacking.
However, it was our fault that we only focused on defense of outside attack and lack of verification of internal staff.

"They stole from us, not from you. And btw, it's our fault."
What a contrast!

I'm glad to see in 2019 emerging a new and more ethical way of doing business. Taking responsibility like the multi-million or billion dollar companies like the exchanges are. So far Cryptopia seems stuck in the old way of doing business "tough shit, dude, we were hacked he he" "Yeah, we're gonna repay you, here's some IOUs at the market bottom cuz bcuz" "Yeah, stick around, this year or some time in the next years".

After seeing so much hate and butthurt trolls spreading FUD around here, I actually hope they don't enable withdrawals too soon  Cheesy I don't mind keeping my crypto locked there, as long as the trolls get mad because they can't withdraw  Cheesy Cheesy

That's a bold move, to be willing to part with all your EMB, SXC, MARX and TIT just to spite us.  Grin
33  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 25, 2019, 05:20:54 PM
I beg to differ. That is not the only question. An equally important question is when and how reinbursment?
34  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 25, 2019, 03:02:50 PM
There's a new tweet with a link to a support page. I red there some interesting facts.

Quote from: Cryptopia
Following the events of January 14th the Cryptopia website was placed in maintenance to prevent any further issues from arising. Any users who sent deposits more than 24 hours after we announced the security breach (15/01/2019 12:00AM NZT) will not be recovered.
This means that if you sent funds after 16/01/2019 12:00AM NZT we will not be recovering those funds for you.
We do not have a deadline for when we will be recovering transactions sent before this cutoff, and any deposits that we recover will be subject to the same haircut that has already been applied to our users.
It means they can't be bothered to sync all the user's hot transitory wallets. Ok, let's say it's very intensive and the monitoring script was off so it's a hurdle. But how come they can recover transactions sent in the first 24 hours? Technically it's the same process as recovering later transactions.

But the second one is precious. If they are unrecovered deposits, how come they are included in the haircut percentage? Doesn't adding funds increase the base of the percentage, thus reducing it?  Wasn't the theft previous to the announcement, thus the theft amount is known and fixed? Grin

35  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 20, 2019, 08:43:18 AM
They didn't take what was yours, Users simply assumed only ETH/ERC20 was affected.

Every coin and token I have on Cryptopia is mine. My property. Cryptopia is just a custodian. I gave to them to keep it in order to trade with it. For this they get the commission. The moment they haircut my balance they took my property. Without my consent. The fact that someone else may have stolen something from them is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. Not mine. I'm not partners with them when sharing profit. How come they thought we'd be partners in sharing loss?

If they took my balance and I'm sharing the loss, then it means I'm partner now. So they should have issued me Cryptopia shares, not some IOU at a fake low value. What am I supposed to do with the IOU? Can I get my property back? No.
36  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 19, 2019, 10:16:15 AM
What did I say from the beginning? HAIRCUT.   H A I R C U T. The "funny" thing is, my mgo tokens (affected) have not been cut, the BTC (theorically not affected) were cut.
A lot of wallets are still offline, don't rejoice too soon.

FFS Cryptopia are not running away they're facing the problem and solving it pretty damn well so far.
What's the practical difference between running away and not running away and announcing your coins are stolen, tough luck, we've taken what was yours.

As I had a 14% btc haircut, what does this mean? That 100% of ETH are gone? ( In the hypothesis those are not progress percentage but the amount of haircut. ) AND, in that case, how could the whole hack be 10% if the biggest coins are devastated ?
The percentage means the amount stolen or missing. All of your holdings in an affected coin have been reduced with that percent. For ETH, any ETH you had (100%) was removed from your account by Cryptopia.

It's a mystery how they had calculated that low amount, but obviously it's not right. Probably they converted all coins in NZD equivalent. Which is purely theorethical, as you can't practically sell that amount and not influence price. And not taking into account price movement in 2 months. ETH and LTC have increased in fiat 20% and 100%, respectively.
37  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 18, 2019, 06:04:10 PM
What we know so far:

Code:
14.0489% BTC was lost in the January 2019 event
100% ETH was lost in the January 2019 event.
43.1986% LTC was lost in the January 2019 event
Every account that held these received a proportional reduction of balance.

It's an "event"?! The same lack of taking responsibility as was displayed from the very beginning.

And, of course,
Quote
CLM is not a coin, it can't be traded as yet, it is just a number in the database that represents the loss for each coin for each user in $NZD at the time of the event.
1CLM = 1 $NZD. The value in fiat at the market low. But we did not have fiat funds. We had crypto. We should get crypto back.

The funds were in Cryptopia custody, so Cryptopia is responsible for the loss. Not the users.
38  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 16, 2019, 02:30:05 PM
Cryptopia does not monitor this site... let alone post updates based on comments in this site.
No, they do not. Just a coincidence on their part to explain the coin status page we were discussing. Dude, that was something positive we were posting. So chill.
39  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 16, 2019, 08:12:06 AM
It would seem someone is watching this thread and responds to (some) of our concerns. That's good.

[All of the coins I clicked on have the exact same message:

Currency 100% secured, Withdrawal and Deposits offline until new hot wallets are ready

So the question is, does "100% secured" simply mean "we've started a fresh coin daemon on a new server" or does it mean "no funds were lost"?

I believe the latter. However, if the analysis published by 3rd parties are correct, they only need to sync the Etherium blockchain to asses the (major) losses. Of course they need to sync everything, but at Ether and Etherium tokens we could look for surprises.
40  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: March 15, 2019, 01:34:37 PM
Synchronization from the zero block of such a number of wallets is a really lengthy procedure.

That is not the issue. You can check on their coin info page that all the wallets are in sync.
Not at all, Upon checking majority of wallets are still on OFFLINE Status
All wallet that have IN MAINTENANCE Status are OK and properly sync
While the rest with OFFLINE still need syncing

Well, this is quite a recent development. A few days ago they were all in maintenance. Perhaps this is what they said on Feb 28th:
Quote from: Cryptopia on Twitter
Update: We have transitioned 24% of all wallets to our new secure servers. Once the read only site is online, we will be keeping users up to date on which wallets have been checked and secured via the coin info page
