Couldn't agree more.

fyi - it is difficult to tell what it is you agree with without a quote preceding your agreeity.

How about they just take Bitcoin donations to unlock full membership.....  Yeah that'll work!

I think a solution that still allows non-bitcoin holders to talk to bitcoin holders is considerably better than this idea.
23  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 08:40:28 AM
Dear Jessy Kang,

Your post contains too much sound logic and reasonable ideas for TPTB to regard one as yourself as a Newbie. Therefore after considerable consideration, it is in the forums best interest that you be whitewashed into full member status will all privileges granted hitherto. For this promotion, you will not discus further the situation of the NOOb member but instead fully support the relegation of NOObs to perpetual grotto (space set aside), wherewithal they will remain in collusion with themselves, unable to provide question or answer in the many Bitcoin forums, to be scrutinized by close moderation for possible terrorist proclivities against the precious forum.

Best regards,
The Moderators

Actually what happened is she took the time to spur potentially constructive discussion. Her post was a well thought out non-two line post unlike yours.
And that is the reason I whitelisted her.

and that is where-in lies the problem, not all the mods are willing to see views that disagree with this new policy as acceptable, i posted a similar sentiment 5 hours ago as allforone(maybe oneforall - they are both mine) and swiftly had my account banished by a mod.

i surely hope that mod, whoever it was, has or will be dealt with and will have the dangers of censorship explained to them.

that said, like it or not, people who don't want to deal with noobs, won't. we can't and shouldn't make them, if this forum allows for advanced discourse to be bombarded by less advanced discourse, then the advanced discoursers will just leave, this new noob policy is an an attempt to keep the community together, not to drive it apart. A method of peaceful coexistence is what is being sought after here, even if a quick, rash, unthoughtout solution has been implemented for now, a better solution will be implemented or a new forum will arise as the leading forum.

Since i made the OP i have been thinking about it and i really like my idea, and that is something i don't say often. By setting an amount of thank yous that must be received you force any would-be troll to either keep his noise in one place or to at least pretend to be a useful member of society for a bit, and who knows, they just may enjoy that more than trolling.
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this a scam? on: June 12, 2011, 08:19:56 AM
I would like to think not but I am not sure.

Just how do you get anything to start with? There are links to places to get free handouts but I have not found anything that pays anything, at least so far. There is mining though the consensus seems to be that for solitary miners there is almost no return and it may soon be not worthwhile trying, I have yet to find out how it all works myself so I cannot really comment on that yet, I'm still trying to get my head around the jargon.

So it seems that maybe the only way to get bitcoins is to buy them using real (as in what is defined by governments) money which leaves me with the idea of scam in the back of the head.

I do see a lot of beggars asking for free handouts, I pretty sure not of lot of them are successful any more than the ones I see on the streets in real life.

'scam' simply isn't the case, there is no trickery - the program is open source, meaning you can see the inner workings of it. now that does not mean you cannot lose money if you buy bitcoins, you can. This is not a get rich quick scheme, as many have recently learned with the recent decrease in value, it is a long-haul, new way to exchange monetary value. You should only invest your 'real' money if you want to support the system and you know why.
26  Other / Meta / Re: forget # of posts, make it # of 'thank-you's on: June 12, 2011, 08:13:13 AM
i think it would be more effective if in order to advance you had to get a certain number of 'thank-you' clicks from people who you help out rather than just mere posts. If you get # of troll votes you digress back into restricted access until your 'thank-you's go back up.

this way you could allow all these new mods to get back to being the regular posters they are and you allow this section to be a cluster fuck that is weeded by those who want to advance to regular status.

I agree, but it is hard for newbies to get "thank you"s, because they will most of the time ask the questions, not answer them. Never mind the fact that most people simply ignore the functionality exist at all.

I knew there is/was a "reputation" thing, and mysteriously I can't see it anymore Undecided

there will always be brand new newbies that ask questions that 2 minutes of research will result in an answer, if you want to advance out of newbie stage, you do a little homework and help out someone else.
27  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 08:11:16 AM
We're not censoring you. Everybody can still see your posts; they're just easier to avoid.

Unfortunately 'We' should be 'I' there since as soon as this newbie setup started posts were being removed like crazy and i took 30 minutes to write up what i thought was good reason to not be removing posts and my message was quickly deleted and my account closed(I have many accounts because i don't like to be judged on all my past posts as a precedent to reading my new posts). I thought the forum had been hacked it was so ridiculous. and i still FIRMLY stand by my view that no post should be deleted.

I know nothing of mining, but i am blessed with the ability to be allowed to communicate with the big kids so i'll post your inquiry in the mining section right now and you can check for feedback there.

When you see threads that should be moved like this, can you please hit the report button? If we move them, the OP can still reply to that post.

noted. I don't know if there is something that can be done about it, but until you said that i have always had a negative association to that button, as if i would be reporting something that i felt was 'bad' and needed to be removed. I'm guessing I am not alone in that sentiment. unfortunately, i have no alternative in mind.

Look : if I am mining with pool xyz and there is a technical issue I want to raise to the pool operator, or if I found a bug in the bitcoin client and I want to report it, or if I am wanting to do business in the market forum, how am I going to do that now?
Unless you prove to us that you know the basics, you'd just be wasting those people's time. Don't worry, we can help you here.

yeah, relevant questions getting answered won't be a problem, if it is beyond the expertise of the other noobs in here then your post will be passed on. honestly, 4 hours ago i thought this was very dumb, but think about this, after you do your time here, you will think twice about posting bs in the serious forum, b/c if your account gets clipped you have to start all over with a new account.

maybe try think of it like this, take whatever it is that you spend most of your time doing, whatever YOU are the expert at, now imagine you are having a complex dialogue on the subject and then in walks 1000s of 2 yr olds screaming like crazy about stuff that you learned your first couple weeks into the field. you would  hire some babysitters and go to another room as well, somewhere where you could hear yourself think...

i actually just made myself think that maybe a new secret invite only forum would be nice for the pros, but then again they prolly already have that and we just don't know about it..
31  Bitcoin / Mining support / Short term and Long term advice on: June 12, 2011, 07:38:18 AM
Hey guys, I'm no miner, but i've been sifting thru the newbie section and thought someone here may want to help this guy out:

Ok so here is the deal.

A friend and I are about to put a few mining rigs together with money borrowed from a another friend (investor) of mine. So obviously we are paying him back in due time. I'm starting to get a good feel of the market place and it's sort of a big deal because I can get a lot of capital from my friend. Even 100,000 USD if I want, to play with. So, given the extensive available capital, what would you recommend on the mining side and short/long term investment side in general?

In the long run, I do plan on dumping a portion of gains into physical silver given the path of the dollar and maybe even some gold but I'm sticking to mostly silver. That aside, just some recommendations to get the best ROI in the short term as well as long term in general.

We're both techies and will be working on some development of some e-commerce project while working the bitcoin market.

I'm a laid off business adviser and am getting ready to take college courses so for now, I have nothing but time and an investor who is willing to throw in capital so long as I can give him a decent return to start.

Thanks for your suggestions.

here is where he posted it:

http://www.bitcoincharts.com/markets/mtgoxUSD_trades.html

but there is no sign of a 1mil btc transaction..

oh, off topic but, since there is alot of expectation of a rally monday, the rally very likely starts sunday night before the monday bank transfer crowd starts buying so people can ride the wave... don't forget, there i alot of USD in mt. gox right now belonging to the people who sold to bring us this recent dip.
34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 07:18:23 AM

Don't worry, it didn't count.

a mod at 149, someone knows what he's doing. I've seen trolls with more posts..

Just wait until the morning as more and more people realize they're trapped in here. They'll be monitoring every post almost non-stop to avoid abusive spam posts to reach 50.

man, if they want to keep playing this game come morning they will have to turn everybody with 50+ into mods, not just free men. no joke, it still wouldn't be possible.. 90% of accounts are noobs. they need to start executing accounts like crazy so people are terrified that if their goddam joke isn't funny enough they lose their account. that outa learn 'em!

I think you gotta look at the forums like gorilla parties, you set one up, tell some people, party starts, it gets too big, party poopers come ruin it and everyone goes to find the next hot spot. My money is on bitcoinforums.net being the new up 'n commer..
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 07:00:57 AM
Thirty seven!

you dick, clearly you are just trying to get up to 50!
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 06:59:10 AM
...and why it is nowhere near enough.

I just added up all the posts in this section, now keep in mind this excludes the ones the 4 mods have been deleting and the ones added while i was adding. and yet the number, in just 3 hours is already 634. This enthusiasm people have for wanting their bitcoin opinions to be heard is amazing.
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What're you listening to? on: June 12, 2011, 06:23:17 AM
I'm listening to my girlfriend say 'quit typing or I'm getting off of you'

I saw a 1 MILLION BTC Buy go through earlier tonight, for 14.  Shocked Shocked

40  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 06:15:04 AM
I'm free!!!  See you on the other side guys.  I hope to see more meaningful discussion now that there won't be hundreds of newbie posts asking which video card to buy to mine bitcoins
How do you upgrade your membership in the forums?

you must have had already been friends with a mod and get whitelisted or post 50 times things that are deemed worthy to be uttered according to the mod that is currently on duty, right now i think that is atlas, so i would suggest doing a little research on him just to be safe, it would suck to get up to 49 and then say something that is disagreeable and have to start all the way back at 0 with a new account...
