21  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New Bitmain S9 Firmware Preliminary Testing With Data on: June 24, 2019, 10:55:11 PM
As wonderful as it sounds it's still 3rd party software. Which will discourage some miners and pool operators. I am not personally knocking it, just stating that.
22  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9i keeps restarting on: June 24, 2019, 08:32:46 PM
I have S11s running on slushpool on the same internet connection, how can it work fine for S11 and not for S9?!

I don't use Slush and this might already have been fixed, but could you be running in to something like this? What firmware are you running? Maybe you need to change to one that does not have issues?

braiins may be better but this is decent if you don't want to use aftermarket firmware.

I am playing with an s-9 space heater.

So this or braiins may be just what I want.

I figured a way to keep miner quiet. Using other fans and only 1 board.

Here is my gear with

 LPM setting
 1 board  mining
 hash is 3300
 watts is 350

Wow, that's really good. What is the DB reading? I've been down-clocking an S7 just via it's web interface, but even at 3.6 Th/S (575 freq) it still uses 1000W. It's out with my other miners so I have not been able to measure the DB.

Wrong forum, this needs to be in the market place.

Although some race cars run 16V verses 12V electronics Smiley

Maybe, but the country of origin is still China so you're taking chances. Plus their markup, trustworthiness, etc.
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Innosilicon Terminator 3 on: June 24, 2019, 12:18:23 AM
Yup, and this is why I am asking the board admins for a section to discuss hosting. Tariffs/tradewars are really making it viable...

My guesses would be below in no particular order.

1. Less support tickets because people stop blowing up the software
2. Less support tickets by locking you in to specific settings so people stop blowing up the hardware (faster)
3. Stopping people from installing 3rd party firmware
32  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pangolin Hosting Services on: June 22, 2019, 06:27:45 PM
I think the thing about CCTV access is if you wanted to request footage around a specific event, they use an inspection as an example.

I did confirm, yes, you give them your pool details and they load it in to the miner(s).

I imagine remote access is more of a China thing than Pango, do any other Chinese hosting companies allow non-Chinese users remote access?
33  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal to Moderators on: June 22, 2019, 01:04:36 AM
You won't get to see a new child-board if there isn't more relevant activity. I think you'd have more luck if you'd wanted a new child-board for signature campaigns and related stuff. I actually had suggested this a year and a half ago, I'll bump that topic in the Staff section and link to this topic, signature campaign threads are crowding out other content.

I used to be a home miner in 2011-2012 so I can relate having made many a stupid mistake, thankfully people smarter than me did the electrical wiring in the house. I also lost a portion of money I invested in a hosting operation back then, when various projects/investments related to mining and hosting were being undertaken, IIRC all other investors lost almost everything after waiting too long to quit (the guy behind the whole idea was a massive moron).

It's not only mining where newcomers tend to keep making the same mistakes over and over, btw.

All very fair points and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. However I'll stand by my proposal that hosting, just like pools, is an important mining specific service. It might be a chicken or egg sort of thing, while yes, we do not see people asking it just might be that they do not know it's an option.

Phil, did you follow my links? The PDFs are in English and I *think* have what you need.
36  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 keeps needing a reboot on: June 22, 2019, 12:20:40 AM
Now that it is summer where I am and temps are going up I've lost a controller board and a PSU. So it's always possible you have a power supply going bad, I had a miner (I have S9s) constantly rebooting. I swapped PSUs and all good. So something to think about.

As far as the 741, yeah I am going to use mine as a solo miner/heater. You can down-clock them pretty good Smiley
37  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal to Moderators on: June 22, 2019, 12:14:03 AM
People can use the search function to find mining hosting-related threads, if there aren't many of them being created or responded to it means they simply aren't popular.

I think you especially know that, while yes, there is a search function, human nature is to browse the posts and forum headers. I mean by the logic of your reply many, many sub-forums should be deleted.

I also believe that mining is far outpacing the level of technical expertise most "home" miners posses. Especially electrical expertise, you should see some of the "solutions" people come up with.
38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: June 21, 2019, 07:50:42 PM
Phil, have you checked out MicroBT's support section? They list quite a bit of info https://www.microbt.com/server/firmware.html Although the site (for me anyway) is dog slow.

EDIT: I just realized you said all the instructions are in Chinese, is that where you got them?

Also found this on the Pango support site. The PDF is in English. https://pangolinminer.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016797934-Whatsminer-M10-User-Guides-Solutions

I've noticed I get alerts for block found, but not worker down or trending down. Am I missing something in the app config?
40  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal to Moderators on: June 21, 2019, 01:56:57 AM
Well, are there even enough hosting related threads in the sections you mentioned? I found 0 threads on the first page of all the aforementioned boards containing the word 'hosting' in it.

Mods cannot create boards and only admins can, and there isn't going to be any new child board, unless there is enough demand for it. If you really think there should be a board for hosting, make sure there is enough demand in the mining community.

Your first sentence proves my exact point, who really knows where to look?

The point of my post is to alert the mods and/or admins in to considering the proposal AND generating interest. The 2nd part is easy as I believe there is, it just needs to be shown.
