Hey ByteBall Fans,

I was just goofing with Photoshop and I came up with this:

What do you think?

Don't want to step on anyone's toes, especially silvercatman on Reddit who is doing an awesome job (and deserves the credit for this inspiration), but I thought it was interesting and wanted to share. Obviously if we used something like this we would refine the messaging and tidy things up a lot (this is not a final version by any means)

cheers. pinstripe.

Oops, that didn't work out quite like I hoped Shocked

newbie account. oh well, what can one do...

Anyways, we can purchase the image here if we like it: https://www.fotosearch.fr/CSP990/k11114953/

You may find this quite an authentic marketing possibility for a future portion of the remaining Bytes:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/comments/7opnl4/bytes_accepted_here_contest_10000000_bytes_prize/dsgoj8c/
Allow me to quote the main part of this link:
Quote
What if… Byteball makes a special ‘Discover Byteball’ page where people can upload their contactlist with email addresses. Every email address you provide will receive 1 MB (± $0,70) via textcoin from this fund.
I see two main problems with this:
1. Basically, it's spamming people. And although that is a powerful method used by almost every social media website, I personally hate it when a company sends me an email because someone else leaked my email address.
2. It will be very easy to abuse. Giveaways in general are heavily abused, and if all that's required is an email address, many people will claim this many times.

I agree with LoyceV.  These emails must come from a known trusted sender.  It is either a person-to-person email/chat, or a mass mailing from a business/organization you already have some relations with.

Thank you both for responding, and I completely agree with your point about spam and abuse. The first method is way too spammy for my taste and for the ByteBall Brand. Invitations must come from a known and trusted person or entity. If anything like this were to be used, Conditions MUST be put in place to prevent that kind of abuse.

However, there was far more to that discussion than just that first post.
For the benefit of all who did not go deeper, here is more information about what many of us in the ByteBall community consider to be simply the most compelling, ethical and productive distribution method possible.

In essence: We have a very powerful tool and a Lot of leverage with Undistributed Bytes

a) Exchange Listings: What if an exchange was able to offer every one of their clients a little bit of "free money" and get some in return (say 10% of what is distributed to their clients for performing a service that ByteBall wants) - a little taste of ByteBall for all their clients as a promotion - do you think the Exchange would like that? I do. It would be a Fantastic No-Brainer Promotion that I would jump on in a second (good for them, good for us, good for everyone).

Imagine if we could sign up a couple million new users in a few weeks time by offering this to a few exchanges we feel are worthy. The Amounts Distributed could be too small and too diverse to make heavy selling a possibility (and why would they want to sell? - I think they would buy more Grin), the wallet would also then be in the hands of people who are already crypto enthusiasts - the exact people that can and will direct funds from other cryptos into Bytes, tell their crypto buddies about it and actually use Bytes in commerce. This is targeting at its finest.

b) Engage the Community in Distributions - to the Platforms Extreme Benefit
A similar kind of offer could be made to all ByteBall holders:

What if we set up a Smart Contract whereby a Byteballer Invites someone to participate, and gets a 10% refferal fee (or other percentage)? I don't personally know how to do that but someone around here must be able to come up with something that works. There must be ways to do similar things with Textcoin and many other features of the Tech. The perfect way to demonstrate the full spectrum of technology available on the ByteBall Olatform. We all know that once people actually experience the Wallet, they are converts. Perhaps the exact method I described is not viable as I'm more of a marketing guy, but surely our tech wizards can build variations that are.

What else could better engage commerce and unify the community in a potentially spectacular viral marketing campaign, promoting the actual real use of Bytes in our Economy?
Get the currency moving, building value. New Byte holders are immediately entitled to the same incentive. wow.

c) Merchants:
Why not offer this same concept to Merchants as well, so they can have a marketing tool not only for themselves, but for the ByteBall economy as a whole.
A Byteballer who Invites a new merchant into the Platform would get a percentage of the funds. This type of arrangement would recruit new merchants faster than anything else I can think of. This is a fantastic vehicle for coffee shops, boutiques and the like to promote their business with their customers. almost any business really. what a great marketing tool for them (and us).

The amounts of Bytes involved could vary, depending on the situation or type of buzz we want to create. Very Sweet I think.

We are about commerce, right?
This could be an honest to goodness (ethical) marketing machine like no other. It has the potential to go viral in a big way. What an amazing way to engage the community, demonstrate the technology and give the ByteBall economy a massive kick start all at once... and it could dovetail perfectly with a Strategic Marketing Plan. Simply Outstanding!

I believe what is outlined above is simply the Most Powerful Way to make Distribution Really Work to ByteBalls Complete Advantage.

Love to hear why this (or some variation thereof) is not a good ides.

An update about our upcoming promotional activities.

1. Eli Taranto has joined our team as PR and Marketing director.
He has a strong track record in marketing, business development, and investor relations.
See his LinkedIn profile https://www.linkedin.com/in/eli-taranto/
He will be paid from the Community Fund

2. Steve will give a talk about Byteball at World Crypto Economic Forum in San Francisco http://wcef.co/ on January 15-16.
Eli will also be there, and there is a number of meetings planned in addition to the conference.
Unfortunately, I cannot attend as it was unrealistic to get a visa within such short time frame.
We sponsor WiFi at the conference.  This is paid from the Community Fund.

We will also send out $10 worth textcoins to all 1000 participants of the conference.  This will be paid from the undistributed funds.  And it is one of the new distribution methods.

3. I will speak at Altcoin Meetup in Zurich on February 2.  The meetup is organized by Bitcoin Association of Switzerland.

This is really great news!
- one of the missing ingredients so far is now in place.

Welcome Eli Taranto!

I am ready to assist in any way I can.

Hi tonych,

You may find this quite an authentic marketing possibility for a future portion of the remaining Bytes:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/comments/7opnl4/bytes_accepted_here_contest_10000000_bytes_prize/dsgoj8c/

When you have a moment, consider giving it a read.

By engaging the community, we can provide opportunities for growing the ByteBall Economy, while also demonstrating use cases and showcasing the technology,
The fact that we could build an ethical marketing machine that ties it all together is icing on the cake.
It could be very powerful, and perhaps even go super viral under the right conditions.
I believe the plan is ethical and would help to massively grow the entrepreneurial spirit of our ByteBall Economy.
Bytes need to circulate amongst us more and more to build value in the system.

Anyways, hope you find it interesting.

love what you guys are doing.

cheers. Pinstripe.

The Great ByteBall Name Debate:
What follows is taken from an exchange with some folks on our Reddit, encapsulating the essence of the great ByteBall name debate, and some responses which obviously I feel have value. I present this here in the hopes that it be a bridge to a place where we are all on the same page and moving forward in the most constructive way. My apologies if I seem a bit harsh at times in the larger thread [link below], but some issues have the potential to do us great harm. Especially with marketing efforts. I don't want that to happen. Let's fix things, even if only temporarily until we are a bit further along and much stronger.

Everytime the name or denomination issue comes up, we all pick sides and quarrel with each other. I am just as passionate as you about this outstanding project and I want my (our) investment of time and money to do very well. But, we must understand that Byteball is a huge endeavor with many, many moving complex parts, and the project is very young. It still very much needs to be nurtured. When we look at what has been accomplished in just over a year, who can say it's not breathtaking, but it is not a certainty - most especially if we quarrel amongst ourselves and allow others to distract us with issues that can be framed very differently.

Potential Investor:
There’s no marketing for byteball How come IOTA? How come RaiBlocks? How come everyone else is to the moon but us?
Response:
A shame you can't see how much is actually going around you. There are Translations, Video Fawcets, experiments with Textcoin, email money, paid article placements videos being made, articles being written and promoted and so much more it's hard to keep track. Things also have to be in place first for bigger promotions to have the best effect - I guess you're too focused on the price alone. cmon bro, get involved, do something to help your investment, go make a positive comment somewhere or give a few bytes to a buddy. we all got some work to do.  Things are coming together perfectly. Things often need a bit of time for the pieces to come together just right. Why no moon for us yet? Markets are strange beasts that sniff out uncertainty and act accordingly.

Investor:
ByteBall sounds like BITE BALL. Which normie would put serious money into something that sounds obscene. If in doubt about Byteball name, ask your mum or girlfriend for honest opinion :-)
Response:
If your mum or girlfriend read the Whitepaper (https://byteball.org/Byteball.pdf) (which you obviously have not), they would immediately understand why it's named ByteBall - it's named for what it is - Not so hard to understand. Say it out loud a few times with some good energy behind it. It's a FANTASTIC NAME! It Fits Perfectly!  ... and we don't need normies who think we sound obscene. when they grow up, we will be here.

Investor:
The name isn't just a barrier facing investors, it's also a barrier facing the average potential user. As many such users face the same decision, "can I really say 'how many byteballs?' to my barista / boss / mom," some will understandably choose not to use it. That's a real problem, that's adoption. Good tech is only one piece of usability; network effects of a payment platform is even more important. So while it's understandable that tech comes first, it's also important to realize good branding is a core part of the product itself for consumer products.
Really, they should just hire someone to handle it.

Response:
It has to be understood that the whole "name & denomination as a big problem" thing arose after the price didn't skyrocket like so many other lesser offerings, leaving bewildered supporters to point fingers and quarrel amongst each other. Seriously flawed analysis IMO. The price was depressed for completely different reasons. Community infighting is one of the worst things that can happen to a project such as this - it has the potential to mess things up big time. I've been in marketing my whole life and have seen first hand, over and over, how quickly & easily the right messaging changes peoples perception of things. This young project did not have that aspect properly in place, and communications have also not been optimal - so the issue has festered. I have also seen countless times how infighting can destroy a project. Let's not let that happen here.

It's time for this to change.

With our help, messaging and communications will become more & more sophisticated over time, addressing the concerns of yours and others that the name is somehow sexually obscene.

For example, ByteBall is the platform, Bytes are the currency.
One would say to one's barista / boss / mom, "how many Bytes", will that be Gbytes, Mbytes, or Kbytes? In the same way, ByteBall (the platform) can use messaging that clearly presents it as Revolutionary New Technology, DAG - a "Ball of Bytes" - an astonishingly flexible Platform for Virtual Asset Value Transfer in the Digital Age - in short time there would be no issue at all.

Last thing I want to say is this: I have no doubt whatsoever that an even better name could be conjured, but it is absolutely the wrong time to be having these debates. It is divisive, demoralizing and as counterproductive as anything could be right now, and those things had very little to do with the price - price was governed by entirely different factors, things are not always what they appear to be - at minimum, we need to put this on the shelf for a while. The most productive thing supporters could do right now is to move forward united & engaged in building this amazing thing together. If you are a contributor, your efforts are bringing enormous value to the platform. Thank you! Please shrug off any feelings of low morale you may have because of any divisive issues. Let's do our best work within the structure we currently have - all will work out just fine.

Wonderful things are happening all over the place. We are sitting on a Rocket. Let's get on with what really matters right now.

27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GET 5,000,000 BYTEBALL FOR FREE on: January 12, 2018, 01:52:08 PM
Guys!

I have built a BYTEBALL VIDEO FAUCET and I am giving away until END OF 2017 for FREE 5,000,000 bytes for every new Byteball user:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up5mWozjHhI

This is also a perfect tool to support the growth of Byteball community (and Byteball PRICE!)
Please help me with that!

You can also get free byteball, but even more important:
YOU CAN RAISE THE VALUE OF YOUR BYTEBALL ASSETS by spreading the news about the faucet.
The more users own and transact in Byteball, the more valuable Byteball becomes and it's price rises.
Until now, roughly 500 new users created byteball wallets and joined our community through this campaign.
This is a good way to also reach mainstream adoption of byteball.

So help me promote Byteball and increase your net worth at the same time!

But hurry up! The campaign runs until December 31 only.

Just share the video link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up5mWozjHhI
with on your Social Media channels with some nice comments like:
"Become a Byteball Millionaire"
"Get 5,000,000 Byteball for free"
or
"First Byteball Faucet"
"Get free Byteball from the Byteball Video Faucet"

You could also post the screenshot of your wallet with the funds you've received like this guy did:
https://twitter.com/benjamim/status/946325369963114496

Thanx so much for making this community great! Let's make things happen!

What do you think of this initiative?

Many thanks Rafael!  This video and your Polish video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1vQPqypKRo brought us about 2000 new users!

And made Poland a bright sport on our map.  This is Android installs:

Each user received 5 MB and the total cost of this promotion was about 10 GB.
It was initially paid from the community fund but since it is obviously a way to distribute coins (an unplanned one), the community fund will be refilled for these 10 GB from the undistributed funds.

This was an Absolutely Outstanding Promotion!

I got a half dozen of my non/ByteBall crypto buddies to signup, and even my mom - They were Blown Away by what they Discovered!
I really hope there is much more of this type of thing in the near future. Thanks BillionairePal - your Youtube channel was awesome as well!

Over on https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/ we have a thread devoted to expanding on the possibilities of this kind of distribution model.
Please join us with your votes and opinions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/comments/7opnl4/bytes_accepted_here_contest_10000000_bytes_prize/dsgoj8c/

And, just in case it got missed: Some guy's view on ByteBall right now:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/comments/7peq14/some_guys_view_on_byteball_right_now/

The only way ByteBall can fail is through arrogance, infighting and apathy - which is simply not going to happen. We are much too wise for that.

Seriously...
Let's put our two most divisive issues behind us and move forward united & engaged in building this amazing thing together.

cheers.

I am still stuck At Cryptopia (fine exchange for the rest BTW). I cannot buy extra GBYTE either because they suspended the Byteball market.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was very nearly trapped myself - my sympathies. I began to get worried when a test withdrawal failed - it was simply luck that saved me.
But it sure was an adventure and a revelation getting out... the fees and currency swaps were killer.

Anyway, suffice it to say that it is really too bad that it happened. Sorry to say, but I think it could have been prevented.

As you can see, I'm a newbie here, who is only allowed to post once before being shut out...kinda inconvenient for a busy Byteballer like me,
but I just wanted to say a quick thanks for your help earlier when I had an issue with the full install wallet - and thanks also to CryptKeeper and Wekkel and Michail1 for a warm welcome and attempt to help me with my troubles (unsuccessful unfortunately) but that's a story for another day.

...and no, Glynmoor, it was not me - but If it was, I could not say. Thanks for making me laugh...and it was just over the top hilarious when folks on the Reddit started to speculate who it was that jammed the price so high - what an intro to the world of ByteBall.

I think the community is really well served by folks like you (and so many others I cannot name).

one last thing, I have been posting on our Reddit platform under the name CryptoBest - hope to see you there sometime.

cheers.

Anyone here used Cryptox lately?

Any issues with them?

I remember using them almost a year ago and didn't have any issues.

Bittrex is closed and Cryptopia wallet is down.

I was lucky to escape from Cryptopia just before all ByteBall trading activity was halted (along with withdrawals)
moved to Cryptox.pl as it was my only option (I'm not already a member of Bittrex).

Liquidity is a bit thin sometimes, and the functionality is basic but solid.  So far, no issues at all with deposits / withdrawals.

IMO, It's definitely worth joining just to trade ByteBall.

Meet new merchant in Byteball cashback program: HJC's Online Shop based in Canada

- Outstanding work on so many fronts Tonych & team.
It's wonderful to watch wow beautifully ByteBall is coming together.

Perhaps something is already in the works, but if not, it would be a huge win if ByteBall were to partner with https://www.shopify.com
We've got a great offer that I'm sure could appeal to many thousands of their merchants world wide, just like HJC's Online Shop.

All the best!

Does anyone know step by step how I would upgrade to the newest version of Byteball on Linux Mint? I've downloaded the newest version but can't figure out what to do from here.

You got a folder called byteball-linux64 somewhere, replace it with the new version after extraction. You wallet data are stored elsewhere in yourhome/.config/byteball.

Hi, this seems to work for me:

How to install ByteBall in Linux:

1. Download to Downloads Folder (or another directory)
2. Open Terminal, type:cd Downloads/
3. Type: unzip byteball-linux64.zip  (file is unzipped in downloads folder)
4. Type: rm byteball-linux64.zip (orig zip file is removed) (still in Downloads folder)
5. Type: cd byteball-linux64/ (now were in the ByteBall folder)
6. Type: ./Byteball &
7. Wallet starts ....

It seems you’ve done everything right so far to create a new wallet from scratch.
But the error messages give a hint that you weren’t successful to delete all files. Maybe you still had the wallet running (check taskmanager) while you were deleting and some files were still locked by the app? Or you are running different user accounts and the one who created the wallet first isn’t the one you’re using now (an access rights problem). After deleting %localappdata%/byteball, please restart the machine and have a look if the folder is really gone.

And thanks for the kind words!   Smiley

I appreciate your quick response CryptKeeper.

I did as you suggested, but same result.

Before wallet installation, I checked the following folders to make sure they were clear of any byteball stuff:
C:\Users\-------\AppData\Local\
C:\Program Files (x86)
C:\Windows\System32\%LOCALAPPDATA%

After installation I checked again:
C:\Users\-------\AppData\Local\byteball
C:\Program Files (x86)
C:\Windows\System32\%LOCALAPPDATA% <-nothing appears here even after installation, which leads me to believe I must have the location wrong (it's the only place I could find it).

Is a different location possible for %LOCALAPPDATA%\byteball ? Please give me the exact path as I'm fairly new to all this. Thanks again.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 16, 2017, 05:57:10 AM
Greetings fellow Byteball fans,

I'm quite new to crypto, but after much research I've come to the conclusion that this is the project I'm investing in. After much reading, I've come to love the community and the infrastructure that is growing to support this "best of breed" technology. Congratulations to Tony and to all of the talented people that have worked so hard to get things to where they are.

Don't be discouraged by the current price, crypto is a monumental paradigm shift and we are still in the very early stages with a long way to go. I believe that most of us who are invested in Byteball now, understand that it is something special and we are in it for the long term.

The past distribution efforts (which sadly, I was completely unaware of) were an honest and noble effort to do the right things, and thankfully Tony was wise enough to stage it in a way that significant funds remain so that adjustments can still be made from knowledge gained.

My thoughts are that a significant portion of the remaining bytes should be allocated to attracting the best talent to help with all that needs to be done, and allocated to a variety of marketing efforts, including more exchange listings and explaining just how awesome Byteball is for users, merchants and investors (much, much more can be made of Blackbytes). There is so much going on - it needs to be explained in an easy to digest, organized and coordinated fashion, with high quality video tutorials and outreach campaigns. Perhaps it will turn out to be a good thing that the technology be at an advanced stage before making a big splash.

I'm not sure if its been mentioned before, but perhaps another complimentary method of distribution could be to find a way to give new users some free bytes when they download a wallet...

I'm also quite surprised at how the name "Byteball" has grown on me in spite of some initial misgivings - I also like the simplicity of "Byteball" over "Byteball Bytes" as displayed on coinmarketcap.com, Cryptopia and elsewhere. I believe the name Byteball can grow to be a highly trusted and recognized brand. The technology is simply outstanding.

Moving on, I'm hoping someone can help me with a wallet issue:

In my eagerness to get started, I initially made the mistake of choosing the full wallet for my Windows 7 Pro laptop, but as I later learned, this is not a good idea with a typical hard drive. For obvious reasons I'd like to revert to the light "default" version.

However, no matter how many times I try to reinstall the wallet on my laptop (after deleting %LOCALAPPDATA%\byteball and C:\Users\-----\AppData\byteball , as well as C:\Program Files (x86)\Byteball and/or using the Windows uninstall function), I cannot get the light wallet to work. But if after a reinstall, if I choose the full wallet option, it does at least startup and begin the syncing process, although I'm not sure it will ever finish...

(NOTE: I have since successfully installed the light wallet on a Windows 7 home desktop unit but due to Cryptopia withdrawal issues, I've not yet had the pleasure of spending / transferring some bytes or experimenting with the wallet features.)

Here's how it goes:
Initially, after a reinstall and choosing the light wallet option, I get this message: Uncaught exception: Error: failed to write conf.json: Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Byteball\undefined\byteball\conf.json'

After restarting the wallet, it shows"Uncaught exception: Error: Failed to switch to light, please restart the app". When restarted, I'm shown the same message again every time.

I cannot find any information about this error message anywhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. First time using a forum like this - please excuse me if I mess something up - I'll get better with a little practice.
