21  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 02, 2014, 08:23:12 PM
Since I've added '/etc/init.d cgminer restart' to my crontab I've seen my 24-hour hashrate increase from 410 to 480 on my GOOD units. From 398-420 on my "Bad" units.

Some people are more code-friendly than others. chrontab is a bit too much for me right now.
what would be the string of code to put in after sshing to miner and in what directory?
If you don't mind, show us all commands, please.

You should contact Bitmain.  Perhaps they can include that modification in a firmware update.

I have already contacted Bitmain about adding a restart timeframe to the firmware. (Much like many of the SCRYPT mining controllers)
BEAR IN MIND, I AM AWAITING BMT ENGINEER'S ADVICE REGARDING RESTARTING THE CGMINER PROCESS SO OFTEN.
There may be a reason they didn't include it as an option, but I'm more apt to believe that they simply just didn't think to do so.
That OpenWRT controller is still VERY MUCH a router.

Here's the rundown. It's very basic stuff.

SSH into your miner

crontab -e

This will load up the crontab editor, the usage is the same as Vi
Press I to enter 'Input' mode.
Add the following text below the monitoring script.

0,30 * * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer restart

After doing so, press ESC to get back into command mode.

Type:

:wq

This will write your changes and quit.

Type:

crontab -l

This will let you see if your new entry has been added to the crontab.

If it's there, you're good to go.
If not, Google how to use Vi or read one of the many posts in this thread that explain it.

How often does cgminer restart with those settings?
it restarts at 0 minutes and 30 minutes every hour, day, week, and month. Basically every 30 minutes but on the hour and on the half hour if your clock is correct.

An easier way to do this if you don't want to mess with crontab is to use the web interface. Go to "System"->"Scheduled Tasks" and just add the 0,30 * * * * /etc/init.d/cgminer restart command there. Save and Apply.

SO has their been any news from Bitmain regarding the s1 upgrades yet or this still a no go. As I see can only order from them for them in pairs of 2s and wanted to maybe buy 3 units and also buy upgrade modules for old s1s that are now beginning to collect dust.

My S1 is still profitable at stock speeds,  but you might want to try under-clocking and under-volting, via a pencil mod, as I will be doing in a month or so. This will improve the efficiency  of the S1.

What exactly is a "pencil mod"?

Here is the link:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=526060.0

THANKS! Exactly what I was looking for. Now that I have replaced all my S1s (10 of them) with S3s I may try this with a few of them.

UPS just delivered 6 Batch 4s!!!   Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
25  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 01, 2014, 05:52:05 PM
Question: Does this batch 4 come with the new firware? Anyone know which batch has what firmware? How can I tell which firmware my new B4 has on it? I flashed a few of them, but maybe its not smart enough to know it already has the latest firmware on it.
Go to "Status" "Kernel Log". The first line looks like this:[    0.000000] Linux version 3.10.12 (xxl@ubuntu) (gcc version 4.6.4 (OpenWrt/Linaro GCC 4.6-2013.05 r38031) ) #140 Mon Jul 21 17:27:04 CST 2014

The highlighted part is your firmware version. Look at the .bin file name. The date is encoded in the name and you should compare it with this.
26  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 01, 2014, 01:19:33 PM

The firmware will get rid of the beeping. You can still lower the beeping in the current firmware, there was some mentions some pages back.

That x is a chip not hashing, try to give it a reboot and see if it goes back to normal

I rebooted and now the X is gone, however, I am getting this sudden drop in average hashrate:

any ideas why ?

EDIT: also, again how do I check what firmware I am already running? thanks

The shipping of B5 started, 7 days earlier than promised date. We added more B5 units for sale.

What about B4 ? That hasn't even started shipping yet has it?

Mine shipped on 7/29 and  is scheduled to be delivered on 8/1

When did you order?

ANTMINER S3 -B4 × 4  @ 2014-07-24 22:28:43

B4 x 6 @ 2014-07-24 14:45:04

Refund Received. Thanks Bitmain!!!
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 28, 2014, 02:12:51 PM
I still haven't received my 7.7% BTC refund.  Has anyone else received theirs yet?  Come on Bitmaintech, you expect payment for orders within an hour but when it comes to a small refund we have to wait weeks.  BTC is supposed to be instant.

I have not received mine either.

Figured out how to tell which Firmware version you are currently on. Look at the Kernel Log, the end of the first line. Before I re-flashed ir read "#134 Fri Jul 11", after the flash it was "#140 Mon Jul 21" And the corresponds with the date in the name of the flash file. antMiner_S320140721.bin

I see a lot of you guys are reflashing your S3s. I downloaded the new image, but I can't figure out how to tell which version is currently running and if this is actually a new version. Any ideas?
33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 24, 2014, 04:17:02 PM
My order has gone to:
Unpaid
Unshipped
Expired

Even though I paid at order completion.

What is going on?

My order is in the same state...weird.

Got 6
35  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 24, 2014, 02:20:25 PM
I got an email from Bitmain about my refund. They are confirming my withdrawal address.

Same here.
36  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 24, 2014, 12:46:09 PM
I see my coupons now .075btc x 3

when do they expire? expiration date is useful to know since it will give an indication when they will be available again for batch 4.

I predict there will be a big drop in price for batch 5, the reason is simple for batch 4 there are a lot of coupons for the people that did not want the refund which reduces the need for price reduction beyond the 7.7% for drop hash rate, and another 9% for difficulty increase, but as expected they will sell out quickly, for batch 5  all the coupons will be gone, and further increases in difficulty will force them to drop the price further, and by then mostly everyone that wanted one will have at least one, once they start selling from stock is when prices will be the lowest, just like it happened with the S1, history repeats. currently the s3 is the best deal for the money that I am aware of.

for me, validity time:

2014-07-12 00:00:00~2014-08-16 00:00:00

What do you recommend me guys then if i plan to run 2 S3 at 212,50 Frequency(~424,81 GH/s? - 362W / each, 724 W total). Use 1 corsair CX750W for 2 S3 with that frequency(212,50 - 362 W), or 1 corsair for each S3, and buy i dont know a 1000W new PSU for 2 more S3.

thanks
I thought they consumed ~360w for the ~480gh?

Is everyone else getting this high of power consumption at that low of speeds?

I have 4 running for the past 24 hours each pulling 365w and hashing at 441 average across all 4.

UPS website just updated my shipping status with these two items:
07/21/2014    8:19 P.M.    Your shipment was not processed by brokerage and has not cleared customs. This has caused a delay. / Your package was released by the clearing agency.
Shenzhen, China    07/21/2014    8:15 P.M.    Your shipment was not processed by brokerage and has not cleared customs. This has caused a delay.

Still says it will deliver tomorrow but I find that hard to believe now.

I got the same info from UPS too.
My B1 order is still showing it will be delivered on Tuesday but I'm doubtful.

I got the exact same thing on my B1 order of 4 units.

Set up 3 of 6 miners last night. Let them run overnight.

Hrmph...

Why all the discarded shares??
39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 18, 2014, 06:17:56 PM
Two B1 orders for a total of 14 S3's and still no shipment info.  WTF?

Go to UPS.com, use Track by Reference and use your order number as reference.

Bitmaintech website is like updated 24 hours later (or more).

Tried this, but UPS Reference numbers must be 30 characters of less in length, Bitmain order number is 32 characters.

Batch 1
