Trying to mine litecoins with cgminer.
W2KSP3
GPU 0 HD4850

LTC.bat:
set term=
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer.exe -d 0 --scrypt -o http://ltc.give-me-coins.com:3333 -u user.worker -p pass --failover-only --shaders=800 -I 10 -Q 2

Log:
[2013-11-06 23:18:41] Started cgminer 3.7.2
Just seems to hang. I can CTRL-C to cmd prompt.

I've looked at just about every site's config for cgminer. They are all the same.

Question: What's the most likely reason I can't connect to their server?
Should I be using an older version of cgminer (2.6.1)?

Thanks!

Question: Why am I not seeing the complete interface like I do when I'm mining btc? It usually draws it after a few secs.
Is this because I'm running from a batch file?
Thanks!
Also, Is the current version of bfgminer good for mining litecoins? Because in the litecoin Mining hardware comparison I see a lot of references to older versions. I'm assuming the document is out of date. I don't see a lot of info for setting up bfgminer to mine litecoins. Mostly cgminer.

Luke: The README.txt refers to a README.GPU, but there is not such document in the 3.5.0 release.

We also price our shares in USD so you don't get screwed over by BTC volatility.

So I need to deposit $113 + 3% to www.cashintocoins.com and transfer the resulting bitcoins (varies) to dzminercoop. The exact amount in Bitcoins (exchange rate) is unimportant. Right?

Cashintocoins is a site like coinbase however you pay in cash, you deposit USD into their bank account and they send you coins, here is their how to guide

https://cashintocoins.com/pages/how.php
Understood. I'm just trying to verify that if I give them $113 + 3%($3.39) = $116.39 and they send me the resulting bitcoins / bitcoinaverage.com, then that is all I need to send to satisfy my share price.

I guess I'm over analyzing the effect of the exchange rate in the transaction.

Ok. Thanks. I was just trying to cover the bases.

I just tried to go to www.cashintocoins.com and got a message saying:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.cashintocoins.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

www.cashintocoins.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for *.nfshost.com
(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

Can anyone confirm this?
Hmm it gave problems at first, then I googled it and it came up ok

https://cashintocoins.com/index.php
Ok. That worked. Thanks!

When I buy a share, is there legal documentation that explains what I entitled to? If so, where can I find it?
Thanks.

I just want to make sure I understand this. When you buy a share, is it for a limited time or is it like buy buying a share of stock on the stock market? Meaning you are earning dividends as long as the coop is in business. The word "Run" is usually a finite amount of time. Can you clarify?
Thanks.

Can you describe the BasicStamp and Arduino goodies on sale? I recognize the motor controller.
And is that a kit or are you selling individual pieces?
31  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] LOT of 336GHash of ASIC equipment & Parts on: November 02, 2013, 02:25:22 AM
Given your charts you must have pushed a BE beyond 16MHz. I would like one that didn't stress, for extended life.
Will you sell a single unit or only as a lot? Do you prefer ($ or BTCs)?
32  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] LOT of 336GHash of ASIC equipment & Parts on: November 02, 2013, 02:14:01 AM
What crystal did you use in the BE's: 16 and 16.345 MHz? To run one I would need a separate PS and a modified cable to isolate Vcc. Right?
33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: November 01, 2013, 11:13:49 PM
Here is some good basic knowledge to know that might help in your tinkering:

"A lot of this information was collected from mjgraham, bluestreak66, and trillium on this forum. So thanks Smiley"

  • 1) ASIC Clock Speed = (Xtal) * 28
  • 2) Stock ASIC Clock Speed= (12Mhz*28=336Mhz)
  • 3) Stock Xtal is 3.3V@12Mhz, 5mmX3.2mm, 4Lead, Tri-State/Open Type
  • 4) ASIC Chip MAX Voltage is 1.8VDC
  • 5) Regulator (AZ1021) Output = 1VDC @ 2.5A, (3A MAX @ 100% LOAD)
  • 6) V=0.8(1+(RA/R2))     Stock R2 Value is 2.4kOhms
  • 2) Stock ASIC Clock Speed= (12Mhz*28=336Mhz)

Here is also some additional information that I have collected:

  • 1) Adding a 10uF capacitor across the input 5VDC may help clean up power/stability.
  • 2) The higher the frequency of the clock, the more voltage required to stabilize them.
  • 3) Current draw increases with frequency, NOT voltage.
  • 4) For high clocks, it is necessary to replace the regulator with an external high amp buck converter that is adjustable from (1.05V-x).
  • 5) Add the following to cgminer: "cgminer (--icarus-timing short=90)"

Here mjgraham's table for reference:

Based on this chart 16.8 MHz is safe.

Got bored today and OC'd 10 more eruptors that I picked up cheap on eBay. Just so happened, last week, I was placing a DigiKey order for work last week and added a bunch more SMD crystals and resistors in case I decided to do any more overclocking for fun or anyone who is interested. For fun, I found some abnormally sized heatsinks that could easily fit 10 eruptors. I have yet to have time to mill the surface and drill the holes, but I will get around to it ....

I still want to try trying a peltier cooler on one just for fun. I would use some type of temperature controller (arduino based) so I can avoid condensation. Having lots of 20A 5V PSU's around is handy ... same as having a function generator. I am curious to see how far I can go with a peltier cooler while bypassing the onboard DC/DC regulator circuit. Pics will come! But for now, here is my latest 10 from today. (There is a stock one in the middle somewhere for comparison).

FYI, Some of these are clocked at 16MHz with R1 replaced with a 1k2 resistor, the others are 16.345MHz with a 1k4 resistor.
...
Images were paired to save space
So why don't you use 16.8MHz instead of 16.345MHz?
34  Bitcoin / Group buys / [Resolved] Want 1 ASIC Erupter USB V4 - US only. Is there a group buy I missed? on: October 29, 2013, 10:33:32 PM
Want 1 or 2 ASIC Erupter USB V4 - US only depending on rate.
Is there a current group buy I missed?

Thanks
I didn't think they had 4 versions
Turns out someone on Amazon was using V4 as a sales ploy. Oh well. People will lie to make a buck. I just wasn't up on the latest news.
Good thing I Googled it.

[Nevermind] I found the restart option in settings.  Doh!
Would it make sense to the developer(s) to have a option to re-read the config file without exiting and restarting?

Can't find "--quiet-work-updates" in the Readme files.
But I will try it.

Thanks for your response!
Ok. So you just chose a more verbose default setting than cgminer. That make sense now.

But what about throughput:
cg: WU: 1.1/m         HD4850
bfg: 0.00 BTC/hr      HD5570

I don't think this is a question of which client is better. I think I must have something configured wrong!
For these tests, I'm using the vanilla client for Win-32. No building from source. I was only doing that on the Arm platform.
I will keep looking. Maybe I will try debug mode.
