21  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Some very 'bad' news on s19 shipments. on: October 07, 2020, 06:10:30 PM
Phill and I ( as well as a few other members) had the same Email last year IIRC

A bit different. I received a BTC refund last year for what you're talking about and those never included links directing you to place another order. This is specifically telling me to place a new order with wire transfer and provided a one-time use link for bulk ordering that didn't let you change the quantity, which expired after accessing. They've still been sending emails about coupons being provided based on PPS value for lost days once it actually ships, but I've heard nothing back on whether they wanted me to complete a new order or not and has since expired anyway. The only way to get a BTC refund this time is to cancel the order and request refund after being 60 days late. Guess I'll see if they ever respond or ship original order.

I had a large number of emails from Bitmain and never saw this email, please double-check the email and don't send any funds until you have confirmed its integrity.

It is definitely legitimate and sends to the official Bitmain shop. You most likely did not receive because it was primarily pertaining to Z15 units. From the email, it is unclear if they want you to place a new order just so APW7 is removed or if they are allowing you to order additional units due to delay. Either way, I haven't received any response back from them on clarification. This was the actual email:

Hi Dear

We sincerely apologize for the delay of Z15 July Batch you purchased, and appreciate for your kindly patience.
The Z15 will be ready to deliver recently, and we will send you compensation coupons after that.
I feel sorry to inform you, the Z15 miner will be only delivered without APW7 due to the production issue. Consequently, we will deduct the APW7 price with new order, and this amount difference will be transfered to you Bitmain balance account which can be used in future orders. You can match other brand 1800W PSU with Z15.
Pls kindly log into your bitmain account, use following link to make the order, choose usd wire as payment method, then finish the order.

Best regards

I'm still waiting for my May order. Received an email the other day from yucheng.ji@bitmain.com stating that it will be shipping soon but without the APW7 power supply due to production issues. Additionally they told me to place a new order with a one time use link and choose USD wire as the payment method. Really not sure what they are up to as I already paid with BTC in May. The link they gave me went to a bulk order page for what I ordered without the PSU and did not let me change quantity. Link only valid until October 3.
24  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [4+ EH] Slush Pool (slushpool.com); Overt AsicBoost; World First Mining Pool on: September 16, 2020, 08:09:01 PM
Anyone know what the circumstances were that such a large proportion of hashrate left the pool?

I wouldn't get hung up on the pool's hashrate. From a screenshot I had from August 2018 they had 256k+ active workers and 6.12 Eh/s. Currently 3.28 Eh/s and 93k+ active workers. Drop since then has largely been due to halving, difficulty, and profitability. People stopped mining because it's not profitable for most and it doesn't make sense to buy the latest gear.

Good as gone unless you remember.
26  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I don't see Bitmains supply issues improving on: August 22, 2020, 01:17:56 AM
Waiting 8 months or longer to fulfill order is a risky bet. Note that it was $17.7M, not $1.7, but your math is still right for $2,215 per unit. Check their earnings: https://ir.riotblockchain.com/press-releases/detail/86/riot-blockchain-reports-second-quarter-2020-financial

That order basically cost them 4x's their Q1 and Q2 earnings combined. Q2 their mining revenues decreased $500k compared to previous year, so they've already been on the downswing. Haven't even been breaking $2M/quarter. $176.57M market cap so there's a decent chunk of investor money to burn through.
27  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: microbtwhatsminerd1.com Scam? on: August 17, 2020, 04:05:36 AM
Just bumping this to warn others since they now claim to be selling an M40 that's 410TH/s @ 2570W. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
28  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: "Bitmain shop is under maintenance." - Bitmain bankrupt or possible return? on: August 07, 2020, 12:13:42 AM
Bitmain owns BitDeer.  Roll Eyes

I've heard that before but all their PR says they only partnered with them on cross marketing campaigns and that Celine Lu is founder and CEO. Whatever the relationship, they seem to have first dibs on any new gear. If what you say is true, I don't see how they'll go bankrupt if almost all their plans are sold out. If they own BitDeer, they could survive on that alone, never sell gear publicly again, and completely control the industry until others create more efficient gear.

Shop is also loading normally again with everything sold out.
29  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: "Bitmain shop is under maintenance." - Bitmain bankrupt or possible return? on: August 06, 2020, 04:55:56 PM
Z11 haven't been on sale since last year if my memory serves me. They could be using Z15 to mine, but I doubt really.

Wonder what their current relationship is with BitDeer. All the Z15 plans have been sold out. I'm not sure why I'm even getting the emails because I ordered a Z15 August batch and they're related to June/July batches. There are a few people who have received and reviewed July batch already so maybe no delays on Z15. BitDeer also has S19 plans available still so they are getting the gear to large farms, but delaying for others.
30  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: "Bitmain shop is under maintenance." - Bitmain bankrupt or possible return? on: August 06, 2020, 03:41:59 PM
It may largely depend on what customers choose to do with orders that are pending shipping. I posted the email I received this morning in another thread. 3-4 month delay on June and July batches and not shipping until Sept/Oct. They are giving two options only to choose from:
1) Coupons after 10 days late
2) Full refund after 60 days late

Who knows how much money is tied up in pending shipments, but if majority request a refund it could be bad for them. Alternatively, they could also be mining with their own gear to help cover losses as Z11 and Z15 are both very profitable and limited in quantities compared to other miners.
31  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Some very 'bad' news on s19 shipments. on: August 06, 2020, 01:15:48 PM
Another update today. 3-4 month delay. Looks like only options at this time are coupons after 10 days late or refund after 60 days late. Wonder how long August batches will be delayed.

Dear Antminer Users,

We are sorry to inform you that the company's daily operations have been affected by some unexpected external factors. The delivery of June and July batches may be delayed further to be delivered from Sept to Oct.

You may choose one of the following two solutions (not both) for the delayed delivery:

(1)   For products affected by this delay in delivery of more than 10 days, we will provide you specific coupons equivalent to the total PPS revenue of the affected product from the 11th day of delayed delivery to the day prior to actual delivery date.

(2)   According to the contract, if we failed to ship the miners 60 days after your written notice, you can apply for a refund and we will process the relevant application accordingly.

We apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Antminer Sales Team

Were you expecting a delivery from items on June batch, and they've only just emailed you now (3 weeks after June)!?

No. Expecting August 1-10 batch so they at least let me know 1-2 weeks in advance. I asked them what specific compensation would be and requested BTC. I did receive a partial BTC refund in the past for a price drop but it took awhile.

Can't really help you and my pics are gone, but that's different than how mine failed. I had chips in middle hash board completely fry and burn a hole right through the board. Mine may have been due to the PSU. I switched to a 1200W HP server PSU with a breakout board and have been running it without the damaged board with no issues.
35  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Electric Rates.... look around in de-regulated states on: May 26, 2020, 03:39:37 PM
power company has not cancelled me yet, or even contacted me.

Same here. I went from around 6k kWh to 10k kWh after putting some older and new gear online in January. Really can't beat the flat rate fee. I haven't done the actual math in awhile but I'm paying about $200 less a month with more gear online. I think once my contract ends I'm done mining BTC unless there's some better gear out by then with a better ROI. All the Bitmain pricing is 1+ year ROI with $0.05 electric. That's way too long for me to justify purchasing and I'd be 2+ years ROI. Taking my chances with an August batch Z15 and hoping the middle hash board doesn't fry like my Z11.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer Z15 Announcement on: May 11, 2020, 09:56:23 PM
Problem is, here in the US they are still the tariffs...

Nah...according to Trump, the Chinese pay them  Grin

On a serious note though, in my experience, if you are only purchasing a single unit under the limit for an informal entry (believe it's still $2500), while still being above de minimis, you have a good chance of only paying 2.6%. I have only paid 2.6% on every single order since the tariff went into effect and all were informal entries and liquidated at time of release, meaning the determination by customs is final and they can't come back to charge you more later. My S17 Pro was $0.62 over the limit and still only 2.6%.

Formal entries are a different ballgame where you're attesting to the accuracy of the paperwork as the importer and customs has over a year to review before liquidating. Those are the entries that end up getting taxed more later if the paperwork is inaccurate. Key difference is customs files paperwork for informal entries that are liquidated immediately and you or customs support broker/agent/shipper file formal paperwork that customs later reviews and doesn't liquidate for up to a year or more.

I purchased one from the August batch and I'm willing to take my chances on how they tax it. I was going to hold out for an S19 Pro after halving, but this seems like a better deal to me. I just hope the middle board doesn't fry quick like my Z11 did. No problems with Z9 and Z9 mini units.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer Z15 Announcement on: May 11, 2020, 01:45:47 PM
I noticed they were listed on the English site yesterday. One without PSU and one with. Both were showing July ship date and already sold out so I don't know if they were ever listed for sale on the English site with July ship date. One of them still had text in Chinese. This morning only Z15 with PSU was for sale with August ship date. That just sold out.

PayPal does case by case on items that don't work.

How successful have you been in filing claims with items that stopped working or broke? I've been on eBay since the 90s with 100% positive buyer/seller feedback rating. I know PayPal's standard buyer protection is not a product or service warranty and used to state so in their policies. They'll also deny a claim if you can't return the item in the same condition it was received.

I had one guy a few years ago attempt to scam me on last day of 30-day return period on a miner I sold through eBay claiming he fried a hash board. eBay sided with me because he couldn't return it in the condition received based on his own statements. I doubt there was any damage to it because he also refused to provide any photos and stopped communicating, while escalating for review.

Unless you received it DOA or damaged, I don't see how they'd ever side with you unless they ignore their own policies or you lie. Breaking after use would be manufacturer warranty (if one exists), and with Bitmain, that's pretty much non-existent for any kind of board damage.
39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Introduces the S19 and S19 Pro on: March 02, 2020, 08:29:28 PM
Could you explain how the Paypal warranty works? It's been a while since I've used them, but I thought that they were anti-crypto.

He is probably referring to an extended warranty program available through their credit cards. PayPal by itself only allows you to file a claim within 180 days, but wouldn't cover a device that stopped working. You're only covered for significantly not as described or items not received.
40  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Introduces the S19 and S19 Pro on: February 27, 2020, 08:21:33 PM
Efficiency on pro model looks nice, but non-pro version has almost same efficiency as S17 Pro. Without more details on specs and if low power mode available, I think I may pass. Seems like possible dump of 7nm chips right before 5nm and repeat of S15. Market as "future of mining" and then release something better a few months later.
