21  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 TH] CKPool (www.kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: November 09, 2014, 12:09:08 AM
Gday Kano and CK, ive just pointed my 2 S3s at your pool.

All the GHs adds up eh.  Ive also had about 50GHs made up of a few USBs running at the solopool for a while now, just in case my lotto number comes up. Yanevano.

The S3s settled down showing pretty much what they should on your pool within 1 hr so its all looking pretty good.

The site looks good too, its got all the info we need, I just need to work out a way of not having to refresh the website to see the updated shares etc.

Anyway, well done with the pool, and lets hope it keeps growing and getting better.

Cheers.
22  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: October 25, 2014, 12:30:09 PM
i created an account on CEX.IO afew months ago.
AS a starter recently i managed to fund and charge my balance on GHASH.IO with Bitcoins and i'm planning to purchase Gh/s and start mining my bitcoins, the overal site is kinda complicated to me so, please can u guide me how to purchase my Gh/s cloud service and start mining my Bitcoins ?
thanks for reading my reply and thanks for ur support, quality and patient.

I do you one better and give you very valuable advise, Ghash.io/CEX.io is a PPLNS pool, meaning you get paix X amount on N shares, or so many shares at the end of a block, because of this purchasing GHS is useless sometimes as the reward is smaller then the fees associated with their cloud GHS. What this means is simple, they charge you maintenance fees on every single share you provide in each block but only pay you for a certain amount of shares at the end of the block. the longer it takes to solve a share the higher the fees and the lower the reward will be.

If you still do not understand I will try and break it down in numbers for you (these numbers are not exact but a representation of what they are doing to screw us over) if you processed 1,234,567 shares and it costs 0.00000001 per share in maintenance fees but it takes 2 hours to solve the block and you get paid for the last 15 minutes of submitted shares only. In that last 15 minutes you only processed 154320.875 and you got paid 0.00000002 per share on thieir PPLNS system your reward would be 0.00308641 but your fees will be 0.01234567. leaving you with a loss of 0.00925926. and this is how their system works but the numbers are not quite that high, there still is a loss and sometimes with high enough GHS it will be substantial. Basically the more GHS you own the worse off you are as far as mining for them goes.

Now in order to make a profit you need short blocks onlyso if you would work for 15 minutes and process 154320 shares you will be charged 0.00154320 in maintenance fees but your reward will be 0.00308641 giving you a profit of 0.00154320. I showed an example including 50% fees a lot of miners are saying their fees are actually higher at 62% so this really hurts us. In addition the fees do not equal the power they say the fees are paying for, they are making a profit even on the electricity they say they are charging the fees for.

You will also nbotice your GHS you buy from them does not work every single shift but rather works 2.2 times as much one shift and not at all the second shift again incurring unneccessary matinence fees on 2% of GHS you do not actually own. They have a very nice system in place for their pocket that does not always benefit our pocket.

SO all in all DO NOT get GHS from them Smiley its ok when  you have a lot of 15 minute blocks and 20 minute blocks its the 1 hour and 2 hour blocks that hurt you, 1 a day is enough to mess up your profit exponentially, and they have more than  1 a day Smiley
Im hearing you, Ive had my own mining gear with these assholes for a while and it wasn't too bad, but recently ive gone to just buying hosted GHs and they are blatantly ripping off the customers.

I tested with 100GHs bought through CEX and my balance went negative each time a block was solved. Sorry, I just don't understand how a percentage of maintenance can cost more than the mining power bought. I emailed their so called support and they tried to explain the PPLNS system as above, but ive never known any pool that takes from you until you've made up enough credits so to speak. The negative fees kept going for well over the 12 hours of so called complete shifts just in case anyone was wondering.

Ive just moved my small amount of BTC out of CEX for good and would suggest anyone else that is using the pool with the intention of actually earning any profits does the same. If you just want to buy low and sell high without ever even worrying about the mining return, then its probably not too bad, but im sure there are other sites that you can buy GHs from that don't blatantly rip you off out there.

Anyway, im off to find a much more honest site.

Good luck to you all.
23  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Hashlets vs CEX GHs on: October 13, 2014, 01:12:14 PM
At least CEX is actually mining something in plain sight. With GAW, the whole thing is basically a black box that you feed in bitcoins and receive some fraction of your investment back daily.

Profit with GAW may be good, but the opaque nature of their operation is not something I care for very much these days.

I don't care for the way CEX ripoff the cloud miners "In Plain Sight" by charging more in maintenance than what is rewarded.

I tried them with 150GHs for 24hrs and had less balance at the end than the start. And that is with CEX getting about 25blocks for the day.

Not good CEX, you've lost my vote for good. CYA.

I cant comment on the other cloud miners, but im definitely going to look into them instead of wasting BTC on CEX.

Just my opinion either way.

Thank you kindly.  Address is 1Lhp53MUmGaaRvrQ3ZcxxCrsgnniNFfZrw - if the funds are not used by 11/30/2014 they will be returned.  I probably need to by 2 BP cuffs, 2 3M cardio stethascopes, a couple opthalmoscopes and some other nickknack stuff.  I have a measly 0.554 in donations and that came from a bitcoin meetup - haven't received a tip or donation in 3 years so I ended up selling my sig  Cheesy
I'll get that done for you.

My sentiments exactly.  You put the information out there to the best of your ability.  As long as megamine does up and run in the middle of the night like lunamine then it's all just business.  It's up to the customer to decide.
Does the UK have a website to show how a company is incorporated?  For example in California all corporations can be looked up here:
https://businessfilings.sos.ca.gov/
It always provides reassurance to know a company is real if they're had to get entrenched with the bureaucracy that is business licenses and incorporation.
Yep.

http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk//wcframe?name=accessCompanyInfo

Company name is Megamining Ltd and company number is 08849351

A quick google of "Justin Fielder" will throw up a whole load about me and my background - prior to this I was CTO of Easynet (www.easynet.com) for 16 years so we are indeed real and not running anywhere.

Our sister company that hosts Megamine's kit is Hydro66.com which is making a very large investment in Sweden ($millions) in building a physical 150MW capable datacentre. The local governments development agency in Sweden's announcement of that is here http://thenodepole.com/2014/05/13/hydro66-build-new-wholesale-data-centre-node-pole-region/

Neither Megamining Ltd or company number 08849351 was found with the companieshouse.gov.uk website suggested.

This website, http://companycheck.co.uk/company/08849351/view  did come up with some info however.
25  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best bang for your BTC miners? on: August 05, 2014, 09:11:16 AM
I've got 0.5BTC to spend. Are there any miners worth buying at this price? Thanks.
If Bitmain go back to single orders for the S3s, that would have to be your best bet but you would need a little bit more still.
I think your best option is to look for an S1 if your absolute limit is 0.5 BTC. Even on ebay you can pick up S1s fairly cheap, although you really don't want to spend any more than $100- $120 each.

A lot depends on your location obviously.

Edit,  great advice from ALLCOINMINER above.

Hopefully you've already received your units, EMS looks very slow.

My order is going via the long route using UPS. It is showing expected delivery in about 2 days to Australia.
That's after I pay what should be around $260 odd import tax as well for 4 x S3s.
Cant wait for Bitmain to go back to single unit orders. Don't think that's gonna happen though.
Single orders will get Aussie buyers under the $1000 import tax level.

27  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: FIRE SALE - D750 750W Server PSU Breakout Boards on: August 05, 2014, 08:06:05 AM
Thought I would mention that I'm selling these as the Aussie Distributor.

I only have 3 left on hand. Then I too will be waiting on stock like the rest of the world.

http://btcminer.com.au/product/dell-750-watt-server-supply-breakout-board/
Just to let the Aussie buyers know that ive bought 2 different orders from Brad and each order was posted super fast and delivered packaged nice and safe.
I bought a couple of the kits which included the PSU, breakout boards and cables, everything needed to power up the Antminer S1s and S3s.
Price is cheap as chips compared to buying an ATX psu.

The kits have been working beautifully running 2 x S1s on one psu and an S3 on the other kit.
Would highly recommend this Aussie Seller.

His website is http://btcminer.com.au/ if you want to check it out.

I also bought a couple of these boards and cables from Gekkoscience around March this year and they are still going strong. He also posted superfast and his aussie reseller is keeping up the tradition.
Anyone in OZ should definitely contact Brad through his website to get the gear within a couple of days compared to the international wait. (Obviously depends on stock levels of course), it looks like a lot of people are using this supercheap, super efficient alternative to expensive ATX setups now.

Auction Closed the winner is Trademan1 with a bid of 0.8BTC
Miner arrived in brand new condition and worked perfect straight out of the box.

Thanks Beastlymac for a trouble free transaction.
29  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: btcminer.com.au - SELLING Dell 750w Server PSU's with Breakout Boards for AUS on: July 25, 2014, 12:05:42 PM
I can confirm that Brad sends out the items as soon as paid for exactly as described.
Packaged nice and safe and work fine straight out of the box.
1 x 750W PSU with the breakout board and 4 cables runs 2 x Antminer S1s not overclocked fine.
Ive got some S3s on the way and im sure the psu would easily power 1 x S3.
Postage and delivery time was excellent without the overseas shipping cost or wait.
Compared to buying a Gold certified PSU like corsair or seasonic, this was a no-brainer for me.
Highly recommended and trusted Aussie reseller.
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 22, 2014, 01:02:55 PM
What was that website selling server power supplies with PCI-e outputs? Turns out my 750W E-VGA can't handle two S3s.

http://www.gekkoscience.com/

Last I checked the complete kit w/breakout board, cables and dell 750w server PSU was $70 plus $15 shipping for up to 3 kits.
Heres a link to the Aussie reseller for Gekkoscience of these PSU kits.
Ive ordered a couple of sets and seller is friendly and has excellent communications. Prices are good and cuts out the international shipping wait.

31  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Imposter trying to scam buyers in a group buy on: July 22, 2014, 11:01:10 AM
Similar thing has happened with one of my auctions. I sent a pm to theymos and he made the negative feedback default.

Why not just ban him?

This could bring financial harm to the OP here, who is legit.

A agree but it isn't what theymos does.
The Auction that Beastlymac is referring to is one where I got a PM from a scumbag called BEASTYMAC, (close but missing the L)
I replied the PM and paid the auction price not realising that it was not infact the correct user. My fault entirely for not reading the PM email correctly.
It really has me at a loss though, that a username who has been confirmed to being a scammer is not banned. I guess its just as easy for these assholes to just register another username. I would have thought that upon registering this username, whoever runs Bitcointalk knows the IP address or at least some identifying information that can be used to bring these scumbags to justice.
I guess that the protection of the buyers on these auction sites is not a big enough priority for those who have the power to protect.
One suggestion of not allowing new usernames be created that are extremely similar to already trusted members would be a freakin brilliant start to try to slow down these assholes.
Either way, at the end of the day, im happy to say that the real BEASTLYMAC has shipped my item and provided tracking info etc. He is in no way associated to the asshole who ripped me off.
Its a pity that the fuckin scumsuckin asshole has been given the go ahead to continue to operate on these forums though.
I wont be bidding on any other auctions hosted by Bitcointalk until the mods upgrade the protection for buyers from what appears to be an accepted level of threat.
CAVEAT EMPTOR I guess.

34  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 20, 2014, 09:35:37 AM
I see why now, the 100 is to move the decimals over.

I was just doing HW ERRORS / A+R

Actually have set mine to 300MHz. I'm not sure if the 10~20gh/s I'm gaining on 320MHz is worth the HW errors. I'm <2% as of a few hours uptime.

I've been trying to use RPI/Raspbian/Cgminer to run the rockminer.

One SD card just gives me the errors mentioned above, the other SD card only happens to one of the blades ever so often

LIR 0: No valid hashes for over 10 secs, attempting to reset
 [2014-07-20 04:35:24] LIR 0 attempted reset got err:(0) LIBUSB_SUCCESS

I'd rather have one blade hang up and restart in cgminer then the complete OS restart at this point.. When I have some time I'm going to test on a spare computer with Linux on a harddrive / usbdrive to see if it's just the RPI or SD card thats giving me issues.
I just tried that --hotplug 30 in the command line, but cgminer didn't even open up.
I might try the 300Mhz freq as well, see how it goes.
35  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: July 20, 2014, 05:37:35 AM
I've got a Rk-Box, and I wanted to make sure I have done all the tricks. I have never gotten it below 10% error rates. It seems other people have higher hash rates than I do, and that's kinda frustrating. I've used rockminer's cgminer and tried their raspberry pi image, changed around frequencies, and I even replaced their USB hub with my own (no difference).  Here's what I get:

300M Freq: 456 Gh/s, 11-12% error for ~405 Gh/s poolside
320M Freq: 478 Gh/s, 17-20% error for ~395 Gh/s poolside
350M Freq: 475 Gh/s, ~14% error for ~405 Gh/s poolside

I've played with it for a week now, and haven't gotten better. Anybody with better specs have any additional tricks? Or did I just get a poorly performing box?

What Firmware are you running? If you are on the most recent, you should be seeing less than 5% rejects and ~475 Gh/s avg.

My RK-Box R-Pi seems to be rebooting daily as well. The timer was up to about 16 hours last night...back down to 5+ hours this morning  Undecided
Well ive been running mine for about 14hrs and I worked out hardware rate to be around 16%.
Formula I used was 100 x HW /Accepted shares. It seems to be averaging 460 - 480GHs with the 320 setting.
How do I check which firmware the RK box is. Ive got it connected directly to pc and not using a pi at all.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure how to check firmware on windows. I was under the impression firmware is only for raspberry pi linux using the WebUI.

Why did you do 100 x HW in your formula?

Let me know how you make out.
I read on one of the threads here that a formula for working out the HW percentage was
100 x HW errors divided by accepted shares. Not sure if its the best formula, but it comes out around about what others are getting.
I wish I knew how to access the Webpage for it, putting 192.168.1.254 doesn't seem to work.

A little excitement today.

Go my 2nd X-1 in the mail.

Pulled it out of the box and set it up on my desk plugged the cable into the back of the unit and then into the powerstrip. There was a thunderous electrical crackle and spark and the room went dark.

Looks like the power supply died and popped the circuit breaker along with it.

This is the first piece of electrical equipment I have had die straight out of the box that I can remember. It sure does smell bad!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gouMnKavDI4

A short video clip of "capacitors that cannot not explode".
Excellent utube demo of what could be happening inside. Another great reason why NOT to open up the unit and get a certified electrician to open it and give a full detailed written report. Also take photos at the same time if possible.
In any claim scenario, you are going to need proof, sorry, your word just wont be enough.
Don't forget to check all other electrical gear at your home that this could have damaged.

" However, we have done all preliminary calculations possible right now and due to our design focused on quality including:

-8 layer PCBs

-heatpipe heatsinks

-aluminium case

-included power supply

-long life 4 wire 5000 RPM fans

-genuine parts (capacitors, resistors, mosfets, inductors etc)

-capacitors that cannot not explode "

Do us a favour and open it up and see which of the massively high quality component that justify black arrow shafting us has failed within the psu/miner?
I think what I would do as well is check every other electrical item in your house and see if it has done any damage to other gear you own.
Also, I wouldn't open it up, id get a certified electrician to open it and give a detailed report in writing.
You might need that sort of proof if you want to claim anything from these assholes.
Just my opinion of course.
39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Problems with the S2 on: July 19, 2014, 08:38:52 AM
i had an issue with a dead PSU and dead hash board and they were very quick to help send replacements after i shipped them the dead parts

I have asked over and over again where can I ship the miner back to and they just ask me to work through it as best I can.
And today they asked for screen shots of a miner that has never worked!

Jerry
I think that pretty much sums up the give a fuck attitude of Bitmain at the moment.
Unless your buying they don't want to know about it, or at least that's how it seems.

Just had a look at what is assumed to be Bitmains purchase wallet address, lots of very interesting BTC movements over the last couple of days. The quantity of BTC moving around in this account and the linked accounts is mind boggling.
