I think ANN/Bounties should never be receiving any merits.
I think this should be as well, bounties should be given merits since they are not really topics being discussed. I see some bounties that are being merited. It is really great that you have been tracking this merit abuser so the admin can look into this and thoroughly check if this is really and I hope he/she will be punished accordingly.

Well I just hope those people whom I borrowed money won't kill me.
There was a time when my salary was only 4 digits and still have some borrowed money from other people. I was so ashamed of myself and full of pity. I became thrifty during those times. I only buys things that are needed, buy in small amounts.
After I paid these debts, I learned to control myself in buying things that I want. I learned to priritize and learned how to save.

Have you tried asking theymos or the other admins? PM them so you will know why were you banned and you'll know what to do next.

I think that's a good idea. I will download this app if ever there will be one.

Have you tried reporting this to the admins? I hope so. I hope these users who sell their merits will be banned in the group.
Merits should be earned not bought. There are many members who try their best to be noticed but there are others who buy their way around, so pathetic. Are they not even ashamed of what they do?

Are admins and moderators are the only one who can lock up a thread? If not, then maybe the ones who started the threads are the ones who locked it up.Also, maybe because the locked topics are the same with other topics only having different titles. Having the same thread over and over again is truly inapproriate.

As for my opinion, I believe merit increased the awareness of the members to be more considerate about the true existence of the forum, to others' feelings and to one's creativity and eagerness to provide quality posts. Since, merits require quality, full of sense and out of the bush posts, like me, I became more aware that I joined a forum about bitcoin and not only an ordinary forum where I can join bounties to earn some money. The forum for me is something I need to value so it can value me as well. It's like a crystal glass needed to be taken care of. When it is valued, the value itself is getting higher and higher. The worth of this forum increases as well. If it is full of unqualified and senseless posts, the value/worth of this forum decreases.

I have been with Children with Autism for almost 5 years now and I am still amazed by them every single day. If you haven't encountered one, you might be shocked and afraid but don't be. Yes, they are different, but exceptionally different. They have their own strengths and weaknesses. They may not show you how much they appreciate you but they know in their hearts that you value them and they truly love you.
Happy Autism Awareness!!

Theymos isn't the only one guilty of this.
The truth is that the sMerit rain has ceased. The initial excitement around it has died down. Now, most forum memebers don't remember it even exists or to give it any more.
I couldn't agree more.. Like me, I don't think of it much not like when it was first implemented. To be merited or not is not my priority now in thia forum. I may not rank higher than where I am now but atleast there are still bounties that need my focus more than brooding and brooding about how to get merits. It's here, live with it. Focus more on what's necessary...

What else? They are waiting for the right time to sell their coins when the value is high. If you have bigger money/cryptocurrency, the higher the investment. I just knew this a couple of days back. I will add some more to my wallet so I can buy and sell my coins, cash it out when there is enough money..

I, myself is lack of information and knowledge on finances and I am in regret. I grew up hating numbers and finances because it makes my head ache or maybe I was introduced to mathematics and finances in the wrong way.
Today, I was hoping I had some background about finances or marketing even the most basic. To understand common terms such as stocks, demands and supply and the like that is now related to bitcoin. I am having a hard time to understand the mechanics of cryptocurrency and blockchain because I am not into accountancy, commerce and the like.
Now, I think this basic information should at least be included in the early education system as a whole not only in particular areas. Students may find this ridiculous but eventually they will know its value when time comes.

I just came over from the 'Investor Games' subforum (hope I got that right). A guy there said he came across a site asking to double his bitcoin, he paid in $20 and got $40 the following day or so. He then went for a higher plan of $300 hoping to cash out $600 but they asked him to pay in another $300 before cashing out. He got confused and was asking for advice.
I think I've been there before. Before I became a forum member. I once came across one of those scam sites promising to generate bitcoins. Thought it was real, but when they asked me to pay some transaction fee, I was stuck. I had no money to pay the fee. With the benefit of hindsight, I know I'd have sent them the 'transaction fee' had I had the coins to send them.
Now, what have been your experience with internet scams? How do we help people not to get scammed?
For me, it is hard to know whether the ones we are joining is a scam or not,. Most of the times you will only know you were scammed when yopu have invested much and it is too late to ask your money back. In my opinion, being scammed is part of someone else's life especially who are risk takers. Some bounties here look good in their whitepaper but eventually will not distribute tokens because the bounty was a scam. I was scammed with this once and I hope the bounties I joined won't be. If yes, then so be it. Charge to experience.

I think all of the newbies here will answer “really really hard”...
Let me tell you something. I started joining bitcointalk ever since this new merit system was implemented. So you can probably call me as one of the “lucky” ones starting with zero merits in our pockets. The key is to research well, learn about how the world of crypto works, and learn how the system here works. By then I wasn’t that sure that I have a future here, but here I am now.
My rank is not that high, but let me tell you something. For each time you rank up, you will be so proud of yourself and so excited to get to the next rank. And everything else will follow. With this merit system, you will strive to learn, research, and create quality posts for the benefit of the community. Yes it’s hard to earn merits, but it will mold you to strive for your best.
Instead of crying about how hard the new merit system is for the newbies, why not make it a strength for you to strive. That’s what i did. Good luck newbies, don’t give up. I’m so happy I was able to get this far. I just got ranked up today as a member, but as of now I still call myself a newbie, that’s what strives me to work hard here.
What a boost. Thanks for this thread, it was an opener really. I have been "crying" about how hard to gain merits ever since this system took effect. So far, thanks for those who took time to notice my posts and gained at least three merits. I know I still need more to rank up. This made me realize the things I should be doing and should not be doing. Congratulations to your success. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
