21  Other / Meta / Re: Is the Merit System Generating Enough Merits? on: March 03, 2018, 11:29:50 AM
Based on the new merit system it is pretty obvious that ranking up is now very hard to reach and possibly the system wants to prohibit users to rank up just by completing the required post count. With this chances are majority in this forum are junior and members since reaching full member is quite difficult to achieve.

It is difficult o rank up in comparison to past for sure. But this is for all ranks not only the lower ranks as you mentioned. The merit requirements are higher for those upper ranks and they are more difficult to achieve in my opinion. For instance, the member rank requires only 10 merit points which appears to be the easiest in my opinion. Once you have become a member and have enrolled in a campaign, you will already start getting paid for your posts. Thus, the forum still encourages you to rank up.
22  Other / Meta / Re: Too many duplicate new posts, can they be classified? on: March 03, 2018, 11:21:07 AM
There is no way to stop repetitive similar posts because everyone is allowed to post anything anywhere in the forum without any restrictions. Maybe implementing some new system like the Merit system for this matter will help reduce such spams.

No need to introduce another system for this as it will complicate the rankings and leveling up. The admin should just add the text in the official thread that members should also consider he uniqueness of the content while awarding merits.

This is something I am going to follow while warding my merit points for sure. It is obvious that most of the members are are adding replies to threads having 500 + replies are doing this for increasing the activity. Note that all members here might not be interested in merits, they might just want to add some posts so as to make the profile look real.
23  Other / Meta / Re: Would you join this Merit Survey? on: March 03, 2018, 11:17:18 AM
It might be for the newbie restriction, I am not sure. You are really right on distributing merits fairly but I think for us human it's kind of impossible to make a decision without being biased. Merit system needs to be improvised so that it does not depend on human decision. Instead of we giving merit each others try to find out or develop a script that will scrape what you wrote then evaluate it then give you merit or whatever the point is for the quality of your writing. The funny thing is in this forum i guess most of the people do not even know what makes a good post. They have this picture that a good post should be a long essay  Tongue

I really do not like the idea of using a script for evaluating the posts made here. This is because users will start trying with different types of posts and figure out responses that are getting merits. They will just start making similar posts and this will make the system effective. This is like the Google algorithm for ranking websites. Different webmasters keep trying different link building strategies and then abuse it one they find the working option. This is why Google also does manual review of websites getting very high income with Google AdSense.
24  Other / Meta / Re: Does merit really helping the forum. on: March 03, 2018, 11:14:21 AM
Yes it is working perfectly fine because it is easier to find those people who are here for merit farming and here because they really want to learn about bitcoin and other alternate cryptocurrencies. I have found some people who are cheating although it is just a minor give and take merits but imagine if they have 5 - 10 alt account and placed in just one signature campaign. Even if they are just members or full members they can still get a lot of $ out of one campaign.

Merit has helped the forum in following ways:

1) New members are also making detailed and to the point posts to earn more merits. This is improving the quality of posts on this forum which will bring more traffic and advertisers.

2) Some people tried to cheat the merit system by giving merit points to their alt accounts. Most of them got identified and were punished. Thus, the merit system also helped to find out alt accounts here.

3) Merit system is also good for the companies having signature campaigns here. There signature will appear on high quality posts now.
25  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for improving post quality? on: March 03, 2018, 11:09:28 AM
If the IP country and the email address changes, and the posting quality drops, then the chances are that the account has been sold.

You gave a really nice suggestion but you know the spammers are quite smart these days. Here are some possible issues with this solution:

1) Regarding IP country change, there are tools to manipulate this. One can use proxy or VPN to show the IP of the country from where account was created. This is  a common practice for accessing purchased accounts of all kinds like Facebook accounts.

2) Regarding post number decreasing, this is a good way to find such accounts. But we will also have to consider the fact that some of the users might not be able be post from their account due to sudden busy schedule.

I think that it is very hard for new member to create high quality posts. Especially if you a new person in cryptocurrency world. You have a lot of work to upgrade your account  Undecided

You are already a higher rank member and should have enough experience about crypto. If you are talking about the new members, I think they have a lot of time to learn. For instance, they have to gain 10 merits and 60 activity which will take approx 2 months. If a person has good learning attitude, I think two months are more than enough to learn. Also, once he becomes member and starts participating in bounties, he will be encouraged to contribute and learn more.
28  Other / Meta / Re: People & the merit system on: February 14, 2018, 07:57:54 PM

the changes that have been made have been thought of its impact, obviously it is for improvement and make better and well ordered, but may not all be able to adapt to the update, let alone the update resulted in the delay he experienced, would make a disappointment.
it can not please everyone for this, but getting used to accepting this fact must be accepted.
I am the one who can accept this application (merit system), although it will impact on itself, but it will be good in time.

Are you using spun content to increase activity here ? You need to format the post correctly, it hurts my eyes.
29  Other / Meta / Re: Merit "trading" - buying and selling Bitcointalk merit on: February 14, 2018, 07:56:40 PM
(I originally posted this in 'marketplace' but it seems more appropriate here...)

Very interesting to see the reactions to the newly introduced concept of merit as an additional indicator of account maturity and quality beyond just pure number of posts / activity. While this was introduced to increase post quality it has of course created a counter movement and a market place for "trading" merit - for money.
So this is just a reminder for everyone that the introduction of merit is a GOOD thing because it will help improve the quality of this forum for everybody.

"Trading" merit will undermine this and render it eventually useless.

Keep contributing!

Trading merit is not going to last long here. Most of the senior members will also spend their default smerits soon. I think as time passes by the merits will start getting confined to good members here.
30  Other / Meta / Re: LIST OF THREADS GIVING AWAY MERIT POINTS FOR QUALITY POSTS on: February 05, 2018, 03:21:13 PM
I tried posting in a couple of these threads only to see the threads removed shortly after. Is there some guideline or rules that need to be followed when creating posts like this?

Some of these are open to senior ranks only. Also, make sure that you make some quality posts before applying otherwise it is irritating for the person giving away the merit points.
31  Economy / Exchanges / Re: UpBit Review - is upbit.com scam cryptocurrency? on: February 05, 2018, 03:17:52 PM
I have not used it personally but based on the reviews that I read online, it seems to be a legit exchange.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the possible changes will happen if the bitcoin is legalized? on: February 05, 2018, 03:14:17 PM
If it is made legal all over the world, we will see huge rise in prices. I think even a  million for one Bitcoin is possible in less than 5 years if that happens.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Bitcoin is better than Gold? on: February 05, 2018, 03:09:37 PM
So Bitcoin is better than Gold? Roll Eyes

Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. People kill each other for gold in my country and I am sure they have not even heard about Bitcoins.
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suicide due to losses due to investment in virtual currency on: February 05, 2018, 02:59:35 PM
This is the problem with current generation. They should not focus on money only. Also, I am sure that he invested most of his savings there that resulted in this.
35  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dream house and financial freedom on: February 05, 2018, 02:54:47 PM
My dream was to buy my own house and financialy stable. As i try to adopt bitcoin in my life he help me a lot specialy in financial. I starter to buy some things that i want and now i was dreaming that i can buy my own house from bitcoin. How about you what is you dream from bitcoin?

To earn that much I will have to invest at least $20000 or so in Bitcoins. I do not think I have the courage to invest so much in Bitcoins yet.
36  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin is not gambling on: February 05, 2018, 02:51:35 PM
Why is it gambling: Anyone has no idea when the prices will rise or drop. Prices have reduced by 30% or so in single day without any solid reason. However, only difference here I see is that if you wait for 7-8 months after investing, profit is guaranteed based  on past performance.
37  Other / Meta / Re: Demerits of merit points on: February 05, 2018, 02:42:55 PM
As we all know the merit points buzz is been growing stronger, litrally richer are growing richer and poorer getting poor because these guys with high merit points are simply making new accounts and meriting themselves?

How many sMerits you think they got ? Maximum may be 100 based on their recent activity and rank. So they can make one alt account reach Full member status with these. And if they give all these points to that one account, they will be caught easily.

What about account farmers who have been rewarding merits in form of ones and twos and accumulating back and simply escaping from getting caught?

They will get their merits expired soon as well. Also, if you notice someone doing it frequently for low quality posts, report it.

38  Other / Meta / Re: People might sell they're merit points. on: February 04, 2018, 03:29:10 PM
I already saw this happening on another forum. Seller was also giving a quality post to be posted by the buyer.

There is a thread here mentioning members abusing the merit system https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2823221.0. You should report this on that thread.
39  Other / Meta / Re: Flawed Merit System on: February 04, 2018, 03:12:16 PM
In my opinion merit system is a great idea and a non-regulatory way to  control the members from posting spam in this form.

But what about members who hoard merits and just post garbage just for signature bounty.

This is unfair to newbies who are posting quality posts but never get merits due these selfish senior members?

If there is rule for newbies to survive in this form why there is no rule for these senior members?

If this flaw is fixed then i think merit system the best.

With time you will see improvements. I will not be surprised if there are strict requirements for all members to earn certain number of merits per year to retain current rank.
40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your plans with your Bitcoin? on: January 25, 2018, 04:55:26 PM
I plan to remain invested for at least 5 years. I will sell once it reaches $100000 mark.
