21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] GroupHashing FPGA Litecoin Mining Contracts Available NOW! [LIMITED QTY] on: December 13, 2013, 07:11:11 PM
The grouphasing.com domain owner has put up a page explicitly stating it's a scam. What a shame.
22  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Black Arrow Software real or fake? on: December 10, 2013, 07:40:37 PM
I'm waiting on some cash and then definitely buying into black arrow. If it ships Q1 it is a really nice buy compared to the cointerra and neptune right now. I'm excited to see how they transition from FPGA.
23  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best Pre-Order Option NOW on: December 10, 2013, 02:26:10 PM
Alright, well since all we can do for now is speculate...what do you think the diff level will be come April??

I turned completely to used hardware and have been buying as low as possible, mining while listing, and selling it to make more and buy better hardware. In just under a month I'll be up to 600GH, with a $3500 investment and turning around hardware.  Preorders are great if you are already sitting on a farm, but to the newb buying in without enough cash, smart plays on smaller hardware can still get you in the game for the long run.

That being said, once I have $6k profit, I'll be ordering a prospero x-3 for sure. That seems to be a good preorder to get into if you have the cash/btc on hand right now.

Edit: Meant to quote PenAndPaper up a few posts about not preordering, but left it out.
- you are not 100% that you will gain at least ROI.... check a profit calculator first!

So what you are saying is to never ever do a preorder. I agree with you.
24  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it worth it to get back in? on: December 06, 2013, 08:48:11 PM
I'll be mining alt coin until btc rigs come in. Whichever pays off more over 6 months, I'll continue to mine until another big event changes the game.
25  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: hosting from ebay on: December 06, 2013, 08:41:52 PM
Premium for getting in immediately if you aren't already invested. If you already have hardware and can wait for preorders, you don't buy anything off ebay for the premium. However, if you need to buy in and don't want to wait, you're going to pay a lot.

Edit: Also, yes, people are losing money on these. I hope they realize this. Some are just expensive hardware, others are just flat out losses that they are fishing for idiots...and getting them.

AMT, the simple way to end this is to post proof, not comment on others' posts on the lack thereof. Failure to do so only furthers the skepticism.
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: Advanced Mining Technology (AMT) on: December 06, 2013, 01:31:13 PM
I plan on ordering from this after anyone on the forums posts a confirmation. Or pics/vids from the company itself. Until then, I'll sit on preorders from known vendors.

If I'd like to purchase one but am buying BTC from coinbase today, should I wait until funds are available to send or reserve now?
29  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best Pre-Order Option NOW on: December 05, 2013, 03:34:48 AM
I'm torn between the reputation of KNC and the chance of the prospero x-3. At today's prices it's 4TH of prospero or 3TH of neptune for $12k. If black arrow produces, the prospero in late feb/early march would be very nice.

ALSO February is for the 1.2th! becuase we're backed up with pre-orders.

But if they want an 80ghs or a 128ghs those ship in 3 to 4 weeks from the date of payment.

Thanks. I am considering going in on the 128 and just wanted to see if it's still an option to pick up once it's ready since you're moving offices. Just wanted to make sure that's still an option.

Is there any reputation behind advancedminers? I see their 1.2TH for $6k is scheduled to ship Feb. 3rd to 10th, but haven't seen much verification of that yet.

Thanks. Was looking for something from them. Though, the thread doesn't really make up my mind on them. Luckily I'm 20 minutes from their office, so I'm going to take a drive over this week. Thanks for the link.

Are we still looking at February for the 128GH units? It states 3 weeks from purchase and payment on the site for 80GH, and 4 weeks or sooner for the 128GH. I'm 20 minutes from havertown, and I'd love to come by to see the place. Especially to pick up an order if possible.

I know some people saying the same thing when the bitcoin value was at 150$. Guess what? They are still waiting for that dip. Oh and guess again. That dip will never happen.

I agree it's not going to dip down to what it was before. I hope it doesn't either. I'll give it a couple weeks to stabilize after the govt news dies before buying in. Even if that means it stabilizes at 1200-1300 by then, instead of going back down after hype.

We have GPUs that used to be mining bitcoin currently mining litecoin. It seems to be doing pretty well at the moment.

Hi all.
For bitcoins is too late, but I registered on this forum to learn about other cryptocurrenties. Hope I will.

Litecoins might be perfect for a budget right now. GPU mining with some cards $300-600 can be simple and easy to get into.
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello world on: December 04, 2013, 03:53:08 AM

It will make ROI eventually. The point is that it will not make as much bitcoins as you could 've bought directly instead of purchasing a miner.
That's the common mistake newcomers do when they consider those machines that magically turn electricity into money.

Honestly, right now I don't think buying the bitcoins would be profitable. Perhaps waiting a month(?) until the price comes down and then buying in would be worth it. Buying at over $1k is useless though. I've actually been debating the premium for getting hardware right now from BFL for the 500GH $22k. ROI is still a possibility, but a group buy for Jan/Feb is probably a better choice.

Greetings everyone. A friend of mine just got me into the bitcoin world a few weeks ago when he needed a partner to purchase hardware and build up his current rigs. This looks to be the place where most knowledge is transferred, so figured I would join in. Looking forward to getting involved in this forum and trying to dig a little more into mining.

Thanks

Indeed that's the place to be if you are into bitcoin so let us pass some knowledge to you already. Mining in most of the cases is not profitable.
You should start by checking on how the difficulty adjusts over time before making any purchases.

Thanks for the warning. I tracked it for a few weeks before going in on hardware with him. It seems like it you have enough startup money, it can be profitable. Getting in on low level hardware is definitely a bust at this point, but given lead time, I think $5-10k can still profit with the difficulty increases taken into account. I might take a few months to ROI, but I'm ok with that.
