21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's already 48%, No one care about Ghash? on: June 13, 2014, 01:22:18 AM
Does anyone not care about the long-term implications? This will only make other, smaller pools less competitive and less viable, until Ghash slowly takes over more and more share. Sure, 51% attack is a temporary disruption, but what about when they're at 78%?
22  Economy / Gambling / Re: SPORTS BOOK RANKINGS ~ USER GENERATED (PLEASE CONTRIBUTE) on: June 11, 2014, 05:34:09 AM
I'd like to add BetMoose.com to the list with a 5.0.

They launched yesterday and it's not designed as a sportsbook but can be used like one. They have a simple P2P hosting/sharing feature - means I can make a bet about whatever I want, share it with whoever, and done, we're locked in! It's not really for the people who want to scroll through lists and set up complex betting strategies, but if you want to just make one good bet on a specific team, this is the perfect solution.
23  Economy / Gambling / Re: [ANN] BetMoose.com - A True P2P Prediction and Betting Exchange on: June 09, 2014, 08:17:03 PM
Congrats on the launch, can't wait to see this grow! I can tell lots of hard work went into this. I'll show my support where I can!

What was up the last 5 days, my last payout was May 21st... I normally get 0.02 every 2 days or so..
25  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LocalBitcoins competitor - suggestions wanted on: May 14, 2014, 01:18:58 AM
The more local/decentralized/distributed "exchanges" we have, the better. I am also working on something like this but for obvious reasons cannot share my model. All the best to you, and personally, I would recommend localizing it to a certain area, that's probably the easiest way to remain competitive anyway.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain Fiatleak to me please? on: April 24, 2014, 06:52:38 PM
Use the search next time. There are dozens of posts asking about the site.

The above poster is correct - it's really an illusion. Also the data they have is biased towards the exchanges that share it. Last time I checked (months ago) they didn't track any Canadian exchanges on board yet there are about 3 big ones currently.
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Questions about Bitcoin on: March 27, 2014, 10:26:01 PM
1) ^ what he said. You don't NEED cold storage. For convenience, if you know you have a clean computer, and by know I mean you are CERTAIN it isn't infected with anything; you can just run your own wallet on there. Blockchain.info is another great solution. Remember that you only hear the 1% of actual bitcoin users when they 'get hacked' or whatever. I guarantee the other 99% aren't using cold storage, and they're fine.

2) Doing so would undermine the fungibility of bitcoins and destroy bitcoin as a whole. It IS possible with the protocol in theory, but it will never be done. Feel free to start your own alt-coin where you can destroy people's coins at will and see how far you'll get. Remember that even 'stolen' coins make their way back into the economy, so although I got paid for my services in dirty money, I may not know that. If suddenly that money disappears, it will be very unjust. This by the way, isn't any different from the real world. Stolen cash is used as real cash.

29  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: It is now next to impossible to spend bitcoins legally if your american on: March 27, 2014, 07:28:56 PM
I dunno about you guys but I'm going to continue mining my bitcoins and using my bitcoins and selling my bitcoins locally for cash without putting it on my tax return UNTIL I see some way for them to POSSIBLY track it in ANY way or a benefit to me for paying them.

The "you pay your taxes or you risk being found out and fined much more than what you would've had to pay" doesn't make sense to me here because the 'risk of being found out' IMO is 0% unless they waste millions trying to figure out how to track it, then enforce even heavier regulation on the few that actually have or use or want to use bitcoins.

Frankly it's not worth it at this time for any government, and by the time it is, it'll be too late.

Maybe in a few years I'll change my perspective...

If you get audited and they look at your bank accounts and assets will there be anything to show that you've purchased or mined or sold bitcoins?  Do you have a regular job or other significant source of income?

Who says I am depositing the cash I make into my bank? Also, I might not even sell my BTC. Maybe I'll keep it an use it on goods and services, the availability of which are slowly growing around me. I don't make THAT much money for the IRS to come in and have a look inside my house for assets, like computers and miners.
Quote
Do you have KYC forms at any of the exchanges where you traded?  If the IRS interviews your friends will any of them know you've invested or mined BTC?

I agree that risk of getting caught can be mitigated but for many people there might be a little denial if they think the risk is zero.  Maybe you've done an awesome job and the risk of getting caught is zero.

Regardless I do agree that most people won't be reporting BTC profits.

I however will be reporting BTC loss since I got goxxxed.

No like I said I do not use exchanges - local only, as everyone else should who is buying/selling BTC. Friends? I HAVE NO FRIENDS. Lol joking - but yeah again I don't make THAT much for IRS to start questioning my friends and family. And hmm good point I should not be telling anyone I invest in or mine BTC, thanks!

Just curious - were you using GOX to trade or invest? I feel like exchanges should be for traders, investors should stay with local, semi-decentralized methods of getting into BTC. I heard it's property after all, if I sell used, is it taxable? xD

*popcorn time*.

Seriously though, I think twiifm is just trolling, his arguments seem to deflect and confuse in addition to being really narrow-sighted answers so I'm with jbreher on this one. He's probably some 2nd year finance/eco kid learning amazed at how smart his prof sounds.

32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ZGL-wallet: achieve zero gain/loss for tax purposes with coin control on: March 27, 2014, 06:57:15 AM
I like the part which incentivizes buying coins when the price is relatively high. Your downside is essentially covered by future tax breaks. Nice!
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 25, 2014, 06:54:58 PM
It doesn't bother anyone that people in California and Australia are claiming the coins? Or that the ID number isn't only for Icelandic people? Or that there is an easily accessible database of 70,000 numbers that were hacked (i.e. I could probably go claim some coins right now. Actually....)...no doubt there is some widespread fraud here.

As far as I understood the process, first you input your Kennitala (and here anyone could copy/paste one) but then you need to confirm your ID by means of:

-Facebook account, must be preexisting to Airdrop
-SMS received on a icelandic phone

So I don't think fraud is as simple as you make it out to be

What if they created a fake FB account before yesterday, but after they learned of the blueprint auth means..?
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 25, 2014, 06:26:43 PM
So as I understand it - claims are checked via a name and SSN from a public repository then authed with FB?

What prevents someone from picking out random combos of SSN+Name from the public repo then creating associated FB accounts with them?
If the person exists, try again with a different person.

I'm positive not 100% of Icelanders have facebook so there are probably lots of opportunities here. Likewise, how is an icelander supposed to claim their coins if they DON'T have facebook?
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 25, 2014, 03:51:52 AM
Up to 0.09%: ~$113K worth.

This is the future model of national bail-outs lol.

I'm watching this - let's see what happens throughout tomorrow. I think we have to give people at least a week to claim.

I don't get what just happened here.
37  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] FrozenBit- Changing the Landscape Of Bitcoin Payments and Security on: March 23, 2014, 08:17:21 AM
if you want peoples bitcoins then:
1. dont be a bank charging them a fee
2. dont hide, if you want to be trusted, give your full real name. real twitter, fb and linkedin...not a frozenbit twitter which is meaningless
3. the best security is paper wallet, not third party storage. have you learnt nothing
4. wow an image of a banner and another image of a background.. that is soooo impressive.. not!
5. get the site running on testnet. for atleast 2 weeks, get people to use your service using testnet coins so they can decide if its worth putting real coins into
6. if you cant manage your own real life investments to be able to afford to make a wallet. then that is a big neon red light saying your not to be trusted.

your website concept is nothing more then a list of public keys and an emailer to send authorizations and a guy that sits at his computer when he is not sleeping to then send funds as he receives these emails.. not worth more than $15 (now i refer you back to point 6 again)

the only time i need a wallet is to do transactions. for those smart enough to be using paper wallets, for their own cold store and a simple client to do the quick transactions you which you cannot offer. i find your service useless.

you are trying to be a bank.. used for storage. i hope people learn not to trust third parties that do not offer private keys and separate you from your coins unless they personally authorise it.

remember gox "you cant have your coins unless you prove who you are"

but this time no one knows his real name or address..

learn people third party services are for short term and fast transaction. if you want a bank, go back to fiat.

sorry for being blunt, but i dont hug babies and let them do as they like, i teach them to grow up and do whats right

I see your concern is trust, from mostly scams ridden like the plague ripping coins from you. Luckily, we have MINIMAL human intervention. Luckily with the developed site, we've been able to make the site feel as if everything is client side, with less security risks.

 Heres how:
1.) Having Imported addresses, generated offline.
2.) 2FA
3.) Phone confirmation
4.) 24/7 support
5.) Algorithmic Transaction fees, Your coins should verify instantly.
6.) Balance change and price alerts.

And your resilience to allow new competitors and proprietary systems to be established is against all bitcoin stands for: The Free Market, It allows for scammers but on the flip side it allows for security. It's the beauty of both.

LOL what a failed idea.

Go back to 2011 and pitch this, you might gain some customers.

We have escrow built in the blockchain, why would i need to have your list of BS that you called "security" features?

Btw, Who the fck are you?
Give the community complete info about yourself, and let the public run a check on you.

So uhm.. I don't think we should take this attitude with a BRAND NEW service. It seems very hostile to me and doesn't inspire confidence in creating something if you're a developer reading this (I'm not but I would imagine this guy is feeling kinda bad if he has spent the last few weeks if not months, in addition to what is likely his personal money developing this thing). No one is asking you to deposit hundreds of coins but every new service should get a fair and neutral review. In addition, I disagree with doxxing developers. For the gambling section, good luck finding owners, and if I was one of them, I wouldn't want to be found either. We still have a hazy regulatory climate (not to mention conflicting international laws) and a pseudo-anonymous currency, let's let him build rep over time.

I agree with what was said so far though.

1. Thanks for providing your skype/contact info, I'll PM you if I want to talk - check.
2. You still need a website; I don't really get why I would use/switch to using something like this, though I see the potential with what you are presenting.
3. Realize that blockchain.info could easily integrate this into what they have it seems, so be careful and grow fast.

I wish you luck, and here's to hoping to see a live webpage up soon! Smiley

39  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [REQUEST] Browser Add-in/App: Balance Checker! on: March 20, 2014, 02:35:20 AM
Good stuff Chris.

Small problem with the 'click to view' though - what if the address is a link like btcoracle.com? Doesn't work then.. Maybe make it an option under the right click context menu?

Also, noticed it didn't work on this site - scroll down to the first comment:

http://www.fr33aid.com/1511/fr33-aid-bitcoins-stolen/

Also maybe make the text arial or something more common - would make it look a lot better IMO.

Edit: Also noticed a pop-up error that happens when you open in new tab websites off of the google search:

http://imgur.com/L3VncjU

Test it: https://www.google.ca/search?q=bitcoin+change+address&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb&gfe_rd=cr&ei=L2EqU7z7OKjE8gfYzYGQBQ#channel=fflb&q=test&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

Middle click on any of the links and it gives me that error.

Edit 2:
I think this add-on prevents me from using reddit's 'collapse comment thread' and upvote/downvote functionality as well. Had to remove it for now and it's working again.
40  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [REQUEST] Browser Add-in/App: Balance Checker! on: March 11, 2014, 05:03:20 AM
Better but now it needs to fully overlay over top, and not be within the div. Check out these 2 screenshots:

http://imgur.com/Jjzn0FJ,XOaZd3n#0
and
http://imgur.com/Jjzn0FJ,XOaZd3n#1

Also I would just leave it as 'View'. no need for the 'blockchain.info'

Other than that that's basically it! Smiley
Great stuff.

P.S: You should add a screenshot of it working on your site.
