Cryptsy is dead for good, http://blog.cryptsy.com/

Quote
Announcement

Cryptsy has had problems for some time now and it’s time to let everybody know exactly why.  These problems were NOT because of any recent phishing attacks, or even a ddos attack, nor does it have anything to do with me personally.

About a year and a half ago, we were alerted in the early AM of a reduction in our safe/cold wallet balances of Bitcoin and Litecoin, as well as a couple other smaller cryptocurrencies.   After a period of time of investigation it was found that the developer of Lucky7Coin had placed an IRC backdoor into the code of wallet, which allowed it to act as a sort of a Trojan, or command and control unit.   This Trojan had likely been there for months before it was able to collect enough information to perform the attack.  It does not appear that this was the original developer for LK7, as on 5/22/2014, we received this message from the new developer who wanted to maintain the codebase:

Hello,

Lucky7Coin is not maintained and I would like to take care of it. I have announced that on bitcointalk.org in Lucky7Coin thread. You’re the only exchange for this coin and I hope you will let me take care of it. I’m responsible. You don’t have to be afraid of errors or forks. I’m developing multipool and I know bitcoin internals and protocol.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=295157.msg6861797#msg6861797

For a start I’ve changed irc network, so clients could synchronize blockchain. Please upgrade as soon as you can.

Github repo:
https://github.com/alerj78/lucky7coin

Branch “master” will always be for stable version, branch “devel” could be dirty. In a 2-3 weeks I’ll release new version with p2pool support and checkpoints. Before that I’ll contact you to check few blocks hashes for checkpoints and make sure there is no fork.

I hope we can cooperate and make this coin live again!

Jack

These are the approximate figures taken:
Bitcoin:  13,000 BTC
Litecoin:  300,000 LTC

This of course was a critical event for Cryptsy, however at the time the website was earning more than it was spending and we still have some reserves of those cryptocurrencies on hand.   The decision was made to pull from our profits to fill these wallets back up over time, thus attempting to avert complete closure of the website at that time.   This worked fine for awhile, as profits decreased due to low volume and low Bitcoin prices, we would adjust our spending accordingly.  It wasn’t until an article from Coinfire came out that contained many false accusations that things began to crumble.   The article basically caused a bank-run, and since we only had so much in reserves for those currencies problems began.

Our current customer liabilities for BTC is around 10,000 BTC, so as you can see we would like to see the Bitcoins returned for both our users and for ourselves.

Here are the transaction details from the Bitcoin wallet:

https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/0c07e0bec1002bd2

As you can see,  2014-07-29 13:17:36 is when the event occurred.   A very interesting fact here, however, is that those Bitcoins have not moved once since this happened.    This gives rise to the possibility they can be recovered.   In fact, I’m offering a bounty of 1000 BTC for information which leads to the recovery of the stolen coins.

If you happen to be the perpetrator of this crime, and want to send the coins back no questions asked, then you can simply send them to this address:

1KNi4E4MTsF7gfuPKPNAbrZWQvtdQBTAAa

If they are returned, then we will assume that no harm was meant and will not take any action to reveal who you are.  If not, well, then I suppose the entire community will be looking for you.

Some may ask why we didn’t report this to the authorities when this occurred, and the answer is that we just didn’t know what happened, didn’t want to cause panic, and were unsure who exactly we should be contacting.   At one time we had a open communication with Secret Service Agent Shaun Bridges on an unrelated matter, but I think we all know what happened with him – so he was no longer somebody we could report this to.    Recently I attempted to contact the Miami FBI office to report this, but they instead directed me to report it on the I3C website.  I’ve not heard anything from them.

I think the only real people who can assist with this are the people of the Bitcoin community itself.

Trades and withdrawals will be suspended on the site indefinately until some sort of resolution can be made.

Here are our options:

1. We shut down the website and file bankruptcy, letting users file claims via the bankruptcy process and letting the court make the disbursements.

- or –

2. Somebody else comes in to purchase and run Cryptsy while also making good on requested withdrawals.

- or –

3. If somehow we are able to re-aquire the stolen funds, then we allow all withdrawal requests to process.

I’m obviously open to any other ideas people may have on this.

Shit. Believe this or not then. I mean 13.000BTC is a huge sum and Cryptsy has also been scamming with the Paycoin. Actually I don't really believe this, unless luckycoin developer is someone from Cryptsy. Where are the investigations?

Abyss,
I now registered, tested and traded on http://exchanged.i2p.xyz and it seems to work. However, I need buttons like all-in and calculations.

Awesome! The issue with adding all-in and calculation buttons is they require javascript which can be used to deanonymize users. I plan on doing an open source desktop client though, this way I can provide a platform with client side scripting and more shiny features that are limited with the i2p site.
I hope to have i2p embedded in this so there is not an issue connecting.

Just keep in mind that i2p.xyz is a 3rd party inproxy service and you are sending financial data through them unencrypted. I don't know who runs it and i cannot vouch for them.

I just did not want to install i2p here at work, so I just used that third party page. It is a little slow, but that's ok. I don't use any big sums, but I bought away those cheap ANC at 0.25 Smiley (and another order at 3x if i remember correctly). Yep, I know about that javascript can reveal your identity, so I understand. However, you could of course add that button and just state that javascript needed for some of the actions. Remember, if you are very concerned about privacy, I don't think anyone would download a nontrusted client. But keep up the work. Volumes are small, so I'll wait until someone else joins.

If you use the .xyz-site, create a totally new username with a totally new password to prevent man-in-the middle phishing for other sites.

A stupid question, but are there any upper limits of how many ANC can be sent in a transaction?

Why are all the different anoncoin blockchain explorers operating at such different speeds? Some of them are hours behind... coinplorer seems to be fast, but why these big differences between explorers for this coin? What I mean, there may be already as much as 20 confirmations before the transaction show up in some, for example http://ancblockchain.com
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: January 07, 2016, 11:07:51 AM

Thanks Abyss! This is reassuring of what I thought about the development still going on behind the scenes and why I'm still looking to increase my stash for later  Wink

No luck with Cryptsy withdrawal yet but I will say there was some odd stuff going on with it. I went back and looked and even though I withdraw ~240 ANC it told me I withdrew ~60. Tried again and it created a withdrawal for ~90, then did it once more for the remainder. So now I have 3 pending transactions although none have come through yet. Cryptsy does show me txids but I don't see them in the blockchain.

I wonder if they are broadcasting to some kind of orphaned segment of the ANC network? And in that case maybe they just need to add some more nodes in their wallet config and refresh? It really does seem like this is a Cryptsy problem if anything. Mining pool pays out fine...

It's always been a Cryptsy problem. I never really understood what the trouble was. If I recall, there had been an active member who was willing in the past to help confirm lost/stuck Cryptsy transactions. Essentially, their TXID's were not being included into blocks and so were always just left in limbo.

If you post the RAW TXID's or something, a miner can then help get them confirmed and moved with blocks. Or some such similar action. If you are mining, it's possible you can try to help propogate them yourself but I'm not sure what you have to do. They never showed up on the blockchain until non-cryptsy assistance came forward. /shrug  best of luck.

I have two withdrawals from cryptsy (one dates back to 2015/11/26) and one withdrawal from CEX.IO that don't appear in the blockchain. I would be happy if someone could get them confirmed. Here are the TXIDs:
97a74f4574de6bddc1e1b86519ec3e8c5826aec62d6b0c7bf154dbbe1ca73764     (1900 ANC)
9dbbd3fbbe0ba9ce72e3039661ae72aadcdd7824b9b1c91890b143d99cef92a2     (453 ANC)
2537b794162fc6ff6d4df910507f51bd5f920c73772bf47f601307ad7078dc0b        (188 ANC)

I will donate 20 ANC to whoever gets these transactions through.

if you give me the raw transaction, i will ensure they go trough. just send via PM or publish here.

How do I get the raw transactions? As far a I can see, Cryptsy and CEX.IO only show TrxIDs and the receiver address (which in all three cases is ASoVC4BfzXKvuCp96ckq41QsxnWLh3gxnx).

does the transaction show up in your anoncoin wallet? if not you cant get the rawtx. tell craptsy to give you the rawtx.

what's the difference between a raw tx and a cryptsy tx? Usually I can use Cryptsy tx:es searching in different blockchains, so I presume they post the raw ones or does anoncoin differ from other coins in this sense? Maybe Cryptsy sent them out on their OWN corrupted blockchain only

I'm sorry for promoting vircurex all the time, but they actually ARE trying to get things pushed forward. They had wallet services offline for two or three weeks, but went back to business and that's the only time I have had problems with withdrawals. Vircurex now also claims they have paid back some of the frozen funds for year 2015 (cannot be much, but anyways). Vircurex just reloaded their ANC blockchain and they actually DO something to get deposits/withdrawals working. Then we have Craptsy that is the most fraudulent exchange there is atm who claims that the blockchain has problems...

However, consider trading ANC there. It works. If you are in doubt, you could just use very small amounts. I never exceed a total of 1BTC over there and fees for withdrawing ANC are very low (0.1 ANC). I'm not affiliated with vircurex in any way, but the more exchanges there are for a coin, the more valueble the coin usually gets. And yes, I know that Abyss will start yelling at me once again, but actually, I am way too lazy to install I2P on every computer I have and I guess most people won't do that unless they actually really are in need to be very anonymous.

I think lazyness should not be an excuse but i understand that at the end of the day many people do not run i2p (even though they should). For a clearnet Anoncoin exchange I would recommend cryptopia, they run an excellent service. Vircurex is simply a bad deal.

so top 3 ANC/BTC Exchange picks:
1) ExchangeD.I2P
2) Cryptopia
3) BTC38

TO Avoid:
Vircurex - for losing millions of costumer funds
Craptsy - freezing withdrawals on a bunch of coins and shutting down Anoncoin trading

Abyss, you should provide a read-only view for your exchange, so that anyone could inspect the buys/sells. A simple web interface should be enough (from where you could promote your I2P platform). Maybe there is such an interface already? If not, it could increase interest

yes the exchange is accessible over the clearnet at http://exchanged.i2p.xyz but it is run by a third party who i cannot vouch for. Also there is full API with docs. http://exchanged.i2p.xyz/en/api

Is it down? I just see a blank page

There wont be problems with the cryptsy in the future, just to get all out:

NOTICE: ANC markets are now "CLOSED" due to unresolved issues with the coins blockchain. All ANC funds will need to be removed from cryptsy and we will work on getting them confirmed on the blockchain as quickly as possible. Withdrawals will stay open indefinitely but we can not guarantee the transactions will confirm quickly due to blockchain issues.

Yep, good time to start using ExchangeD.I2P Smiley
Cant say you didn't see it coming

When the Blockchain is damaged how is it useful to use i2p, how does this save ANC ?

There is no block-chain damage, ExchangeD.I2P has not had any anoncoin issues, cryptsy people are just stupid and/or incompetent.

Yep, the blockchain works fine. Only Cryptsy that is f***ed up, maybe they'd need to reload it or use a newer version... let's see how long this rumba takes

Good news!

Since yesterday, vircurex fixed the problems and now deposits and withdrawals work again. I have tested with many coins and no signs of scam at all. The admin has been away for a while, that's all.

Good news my friends!

Vircurex backend is up n' running. Anoncoins can be withdrawn and deposited again. Just tested and verified. Also BTC, DOGE and other wallets work (except PPC and DGC, but those have been offline for a while)

Hi guys!

Vircurex guy put the wallet service back up, it had been down for a while and had not had the ability to check the wallets.
 Everything is working again!
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: December 11, 2015, 10:34:45 AM
I restarted the discussion on future Devcoin price, previously titled: "Good time to buy Devcoins!" now is: "Devcoin price forecast".

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1275749

Everyone's forecast is welcome!

I predict the price surges by an entire satoshi once the Devtome gets fixed Wink

If vircurex actually run away with the money now (no deposits or withdrawals can be made) and the withdrawal problems that Cryptsy has, I predict that DVC will drop with one satoshi. However, there is still one market, BTER provides a DVC/CNY trading pair.

Too fucking bad, that I sent all my DVC out of Cryptsy, straight into the mouth of vircurex... 30M coins :/
So, I'll just beg and pray that vircurex just has a problem with their wallet services. Tested to send there a few DVC an hour ago, and the deposit cannot be seen either.

I guess this is quite a hot topic for devcoiners, as vircurex has been quite a big market place for us.

I haven't sold any of mine in a LONG time. I used to play the market to build up more... and then they crashed. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to liquidate at this point or remain hopeful that something can be done to infuse value into them again. Feel kind of stupid... had an offer when they were 120 sat still to buy all of mine at 110 off the market. Declined because I had faith in the project. Now they're almost valueless, Sad.

Vircurex has a tradition of issues but they manage to solve things: http://www.coindesk.com/exchange-vircurex-freezes-withdrawals-claims-lack-reserves/

Yep, but this has now continued for a week and makes me worried.

hey
in the last few weeks i made 5 anc withdrawal from 4 different exchanges,
they all gave me txid which dosnt appear in anc explorer
is there any problem with the network ?
did you check here:?

http://abe.darkgamex.ch:2751/chain/Anoncoin

http://abe.darkgamex.ch:2751/address/AZRaYktZMQdc3V1zN1BQiLARVgJjrHPKHb

Those two withdraws there, I made from vircurex. I have made also one from cex.io and one from Cryptsy(that is processed), but nope, nothing there

I can confirm that my CEX.io withdrawal went through now
37  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Vircurex does not allow for ANY withdrawals at the moment. on: December 09, 2015, 01:23:21 PM
I have never experienced any problems with Vircurex before (except DGC withdrawals), but now, a few days a go, vircurex gives this message "Unable to process the request right now. Please try again later." for ANY coin I am withdrawing. This could be something temporary, but I'd like to hear from other people still actively trading at the platform (the few left), have you got the same message the last days. Just to make sure it is not only me been "suspended".

I know that most people think that Vircurex is scam and I have been careful not to deposit too much coins (max a bitcoin, but that is still a bitcoin).

have the same issue in all wallets
sent a message and from my experience it takes time until the dev team gets the info
they never screwed me before, and even released some stuck withdrawal 4-6 month after they got stuck.
i dont think they scam ppl (at least not in the last year and a half + ), but i do know they are very very slow and will fix wallet once every couple of weeks/months

Yeh, I have experienced the same. Only problem they have had is that you cannot withdraw DGC. Let's just hope for the best. Maybe it is just the wallet-service that is down. (fingerscrossed). If they fix this thing, I'll continue trading there Smiley
