21  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] *NEW* Mining Rig Rental Service (Cudaminers will especially like this) on: May 18, 2014, 01:29:40 AM
Awesome Service! Easy to get started with  Grin

Just a quick question, can I configure it to go offline after last contract?

Feature Request: Time windows, i.e.. Auto Online at 6pm, Auto Offline 6am or 24x7

Okay... anyone mine with a 750 ti and can share their config?  I mostly get some wiered rcv_line fail error reconnect in 15 seconds over and over..

oh yeah, wanted to try for x11

edit... i swear it seems to start working as soon as I post on here...  wtf.   seems to be working now

Grin isn't that the truth, happens to me too

Another question:  On the home page for the table of profit rankings it says "port" and then "special miner" do I need to set my port to match that or do I just do the 4440 port if I want x11 and it will automatically go to the special port?  Why list that port?  sort of confusing

Just set it for the 4444 port

merc82, I have a question regarding X11 and the sgminer page linked:  how do I get it to work on it's own if it switches between algos?

I did a print page and scanned... all I could find was another guy with a question but no answer:

"Regarding the multiple kernels in the same bat, is it possible to also have some kind of auto-detect that automatically switches kernel depending on the algo the pool is reporting?  Grin"

Is there a -k to catch all x11 or would I have to manually switch on my own?

Edit: looks like people are just doing -k darkcoin as a default?  That right?

Ya seems darkcoin kernel only. Been working for me just fine.

it's added but not syncing!

try
addnode=rtc.hashhot.com

Yep, this fixed it for me

Really like this UI, but having an issue on mobile. Google Chrome on Android tells me it's "unable to resolve the servers DNS address"

That's strange. Not had any other reports of anything like this. It is a https site so maybe you had loaded http?

I think it's pretty, have my miners pointed here.

Ok so I saw this on youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeWs6ayupAw

this guy is hashing with an i7 getting 40 MH on x11. Is this possible or just bullshit?

I call bull

Hey guys im having trouble setting up my x11 miner, getting https://i.imgur.com/uReqWaS.png error. On 7950

my batch file has the code:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
sgminer.exe -k darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://east01.us.trademybit.com:4440 -u (my user) -p (my pass) --thread-concurrency 32765 -I 13  --worksize 256 -g 1

cant seem to get it to work, anyone spot my error maybe?

I don't think you have the complete download. Look in the kernel directory and make sure you have darkcoin.cl in there.. If not, then look for another download. I would also skip all the extra arguments and fine tune when it's working.

sgminer -k darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://east01.us.trademybit.com:4440 -u worker -p password -X 20

I'm sure everything is ok, but you shouldn't generally just download other "wallets" than what the developer has posted.

Take a Walk on Wild Side.

um no  Grin I don't need any help sending bitcoins to other locations, I do a good job of it by myself.

33  Economy / Services / Re: Copying a visa card? on: May 14, 2014, 07:16:47 PM
Don't know if this helps, but most modern db's don't do dirty writes.

If "dirty write" means the exploit mentioned previously (with two transactions hitting at once), wouldn't that mean that none of the exchanges (being that they should all be using modern DB's) should be exploitable? That would go against what was stated earlier.

But then a lot of developers circumvent this to optimize speed. Which then leads to the flaws.. Yes, locking sucks and could lead to deadlock contentions, but I rather have a contention than some of the ridiculous things they allow. I don't feel the fiat industry does things like bitcoin exchanges.

Ahhh, I get you now. So basically people take the "easy" way out and get screwed as a result. Seems like there's a life lesson in here somewhere, :p.

Exactly  Grin

Thank you for explaing it really helped, but i am still not 100% sure i mean when i read about ACID on vikipedia there were no atms mentioned only sending from A to B some errors  power loss was mentioned on it.

Power loss is just one example.  Here is a very simplified example (real DBMS are more robust).  Card has a balance of $400.  User duplicates card and two users start using ATM at the same time trying to each withdraw $400 at the "same time".  Lets ignore the fact that both ATMs are reporting this to the same central location so it is trivially easy for the bank to detect that the same card is being used simultaneously in two different locations (something that can't happen in fraud) and just confiscate both cards as a precaution.

Regardless of how well timed the attackers are, one request will be processed first.  The A in ACID means that all steps in one logical operation such as withdrawing cash are done as a single atomic operation.  Either they all complete or none of them do.  The I means that all operations will always have the same outcome as if they were processed sequentially.

This super simple ATM has three steps in the withdraw cash operation:
Check balance is greater than or equal to withdraw_amount
Dispense withdraw_amount
Deduct amount from balance

I am assuming you think the attack could work like this (T1 is steps for transaction 1, and T2 is steps for transactions 2).

T1 check balance ($400) is greater than or equal to $400 = TRUE
T2 check balance ($400) is greater than or equal to $400 = TRUE
T1 dispense $400
T2 dispense $400
T1 deduct $400 from balance.  Balance = $0
T2 deduct $400 from balance.  Balance = -$400.

Attackers win, $800 dispensed from account with only a $400 balance.  The reality is this problem was solved more than fifty years ago.  What actually happens

T1 CHECK TO SEE IF EXISTING TX IS IN PROGRESS = FALSE (start a new transaction)
T1 START TRANSACTION
T1 check balance ($400) is greater than or equal to $400 = TRUE
T2 CHECK TO SEE IF EXISTING TX IS IN PROGRESS = TRUE (wait and check later)
T1 dispense $400
T1 deduct $400 from balance.  Balance = $0
T1 TRANSACTION COMMIT
T2 CHECK TO SEE IF EXISTING TX IS IN PROGRESS = FALSE (start a new transaction)
T2 START TRANSACTION
T2 check balance $0 is greater than or equal to $400 = FALSE
T2 report insufficient funds
T2 TRANSACTION COMMIT

All Bitcoin exchanges (or any system processing financial requests) should operate the same way.  This is very basic fundamentals of database operations.  Sadly many exchanges have been created by people who lack even the basic understanding of transaction processing.  They have in the past been attacked in a manner similar to the flawed ATM attack model.  They attacks should have failed but they didn't and users lost small fortunes.  I am sure more than one exchange is still vulnerable to similar attacks today.

Thanks for that very graphical explanation. I wasn't aware that's how things worked either. I don't quite get how the databases are supposed to manage knowing whether or not another write is waiting though. I am one of the people who can code and all, but how do you code in such a way as to determine if you're waiting for something to write to the DB? I think I'm missing the "logic" part of it.

Don't know if this helps, but most modern db's don't do dirty writes.
36  Economy / Services / Re: Copying a visa card? on: May 14, 2014, 05:29:54 PM
No it isn't possible because unlike some Bitcoin exchanges banks learned about the concept of ACID compliant transactions about forty years ago.  BTW there is no money "in the card" just like there is no car hidden inside your car key.  The key and card are just access mechanisms.

Well said sir ! Smiley

I just wonder if it is possible for a hacker to use 3D printer to replicate a VISA/MasterCard ?

Well I am not going to help you engage in credit card fraud but it is trivially easy to produce fake magnetic based credit cards.   They essentially have absolutely no security (like bitcoin wallet with the private key written right on the front and broadcast in plaintext).  This is a big reason the industry is moving to chip & pin based cards because magnetic based cards are horribly insecure.

I seriously think that being able to use credit cards online is a terrible idea. At a physical store, they will at least request a signature, but online, no signature, no password, just have Card No., Expiry date, CVV and you're all set.

I really don't understand the point of CVV.. I thought it's intention was to show you had the card, but since it's needed just as much as the creditcard number, name and date, I just think it's a waste. Once, someone has your data, they have your data.

I didn't think POS would start till after POW?

It's my first time mining x11 (switched from DOGE)... I THINK It's working. I'm mining at ~5.75 Mh/s and I seem to be getting about 3 accepted shares an hour. Does that seem right to anyone?

Oh I think I see the problem, you're not using what I think is the official version.

my version more specifically is 4.1.0-103-g00015, which I got from a thread in this forum. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=475795.0)

The version you have may not even have a darkcoin.cl in sgminer/kernel directory.

I suspect that cause I too downloaded what I thought was a windows compiled version.

Notice the upper left:

and this is my startup
sgminer -k darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://east01.us.trademybit.com:4440 -u dmpotter.1 -p x -X 20

my cards are only 7950's. (powercoLOLOLOLor at that too).

why price on bittrex.com down?

I'd like to meet the people who are buying this coin.. I would like to shake their hand

In what sense?

the same way I would congratulate and admire a bronze finalist in the special olympics
Missed the launch? Sad

okay maybe i was harsh, and honestly, i have no way to predict what a price will do.  I did however dump all my west from launch around 6700 sats.  I may have to eat my words later, I suppose.. but my original comment was really directed to the individual who was buying off the sell book up to and over 7k sats.  Impressive feat of strength
I've mined about 7k so far. If we compare this coin's volume, with other coin's volume, it has a potential.

With such low coin supply, the price is really funny right now. Whoever is buying now, will be making "big" money in few days, weeks, tops.

This coin isn't older than 18 hours. You can understand what's going to happen Smiley

After the storm, sun comes.

XLB is near ending PoW phase.
SC is 6-7 days old.
DRM has 16-30M coins in total. ( Check its price )

It just seems like a "fun" coin.  (DRM actually only has 1.8M pow coins and was 0% premine.. just sayin).  I will say WOW to some of the hash this coin got.. are there really that many x11 rigs to rent.. was every video card in china spinning on west last night?  Single accounts pushing over 400m/770m/1g!  things that make ya go hmmm
I personaly invested ~140MH/s in this coin. Glad I found cheap rigs. Had to rent them 1 hour before the launch tho Smiley
miningrentals.com has about 80 X11 rigs. There were like 10-12 free rigs/farms 2 hours after the launch.

Lots of people jumped on it.

I've always wanted one of these

Old style ftw, dude.
