A proposal on how to restore anc.

First people need to acknowledge the real problem. Anc has been hijacked by the nsa. They have been setting up a scenario in which the anc algo could be switched to cryptonote and people would welcome it. That has been derailed. Cryptonote is being exposed shortly and will not be viable.

Second people need to identify what gives value to a coin. It is not the algo, not the devs, not the hype. Coins now succeed only by causing partisan sentiment, appealing to some political interest. Unfortunately when you pick your political side you are also picking your enemy. If you are the dog party you must compete with the cat party, etc.

The most forward way to pick a strong politic is to pick a strong enemy and quickly take the lead in being identified there.

As someone said earlier the radical politics of the middle east are the surest developing strong enemy. Isis will have a coin soon. It will reach usd1b quicjly and long before most other coins.

To create a competitor for that coin a person only has to look at the sentiment in Tunisia, Libya, Syria and find a politic that matches the growing sentiment there in potential appeal. The anonymous movement guy falkes or whatever is one of very few social forces that can easily match that.

So if anc wants to thrive it must first ditch the nsa pollution and then resurrect the anonymous collective association.

If somebody wants to play chickenshit games I will be more than happy to start tagging specific bitcointalk profiles as nsa shills. That game is dead. Bury it.

Sure, new guy..... tell us who the nsa shills are, ok?

Gotta admit.... starting to feel like there's egg dripping off my face.  I'm wondering why I'm still mining ANC.

I had a lot of hope and optimism about this coin.  I wonder if the devs are just kids who've taken on a project
too big for themselves and are now bored with it.  I saw so much possibility for actually altering history with
this digicoin.  A wall being built against the seemingly unstoppable oncoming tyranny.

Meeh, if you are serious, please get on here and do something.  Say something about what you are doing.  If
you need help, ask for it.  If you are genuine, and you've actually brought the project as far along as you say,
then see those next stages to completion and fix the problems.

Forget about the exchanges for now if necessary.  This has so much more potential for all of humanity than
making some quick money on exchanges.  Real privacy in trade is practically a human right, or should be.

For now, I'll keep the miners going and watch the threads.  This was never about making money for me.  It can
be so much more.  But I must admit, I'm feeling a bit sheepish, and I think I hear the buzz of shears coming.

5) It still is not clear whether the group is a government entity trying to push people toward government created algorithms which have backdoors, like cryptonote, or if it is a private group of profiteers.

Hi,

Care to show any proof?

Thanks

I'd like to see some too. But I think the we are highly unlikely to see that

There are several very distinct avenues of approach that can be used to classify cn cryptonote as a government project, the product of a collaboration motivated by factors associated with people whose motive is related to law enforcement and/or information gathering.

A person using the name Jungian should make short work of it, unless the username is an ornament.

Aside from the blatant psychological clues there are cryptographic questions http://www.cryptobang.com/2014/10/05/what-nsa-created-cryptonote-for/ and other issues that are likely to receive press soon.

Glad to hear it. I for one really appreciate the effort you put in looking at the code. Thanks for sharing you opinions I feel a lot more optimistic about the coin now. Every little thing is encouraging.  Cheesy Cool

We need an official update from Meeh and the dev-team commenting on the way forward to defuse the current situation and uphold the credibility of the coin vis a vis the investors, lot's of emotions going on here right now.

Has a developer already answered this? I searched on the forum but did not find any response from them.
Furthermore, after reading all this forum, I have some basics questions:
- Why Gnosis want to remain anonymous? As I understood, he could create ANCs from nothing without no one knowing. People here don't care about this flaw?
- Why someone is mining all the ANC supply since weeks exploiting KGW bug and devs don't care? Why devs don't care that anoncoin became 100% centralized to a unknown solo miner?

What, you're back again?  lolz

Anyone who has actually read the thread already has read the answers to your tired-ass-failed diversions.

Yes, you should have bailed on whatever coin you are holding long ago, and jumped into ANC.

It's still not too late.

so do you know WHICH pool provides such cleverness?

Really cool stuff, drakoin.  I guess the best thing to do until the fix would be to discover the pool and invite everyone to go for a swim so the wealth could be shared around.

But it's got to be someone who just jumps from coin to coin, as you say.  Otherwise, if it were someone who understood what ANC is doing, they would hold what they've got and score millions instead of thousands.

PS: it is possible to flash most android phone with a real linux system Wink tough normal users wont do that.

What?  Seriously?  Link, pretty please?

It differs from phone to phone. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php
Hopfully it would give you an start.

Anyway if you got root, why not download one of those Linux installers? It works like an image file you boot up, and can communicate with it over a VNC client. It was how I did it with my Nexus some months ago, but hopefully it's better solutions out there now Smiley Take a search Wink

Thank you.  I had no idea. [big smiley face!]

hashrate and price are slowly creeping up Smiley

Q. What will you do with your anoncoin profits once ZC is implemented?

Silly geek, ANCs are for privacy, not profit!

Ummm, but maybe I'd buy a private island privately?

Seriously... if it every really blows up, and I can use half of my ANCs to pay off my student loans, I'll do that.

Well Mullick (Crytpsy rep) disagrees. The point is that it needs to be fixed. If ANC wants to attract new investors we cant have transactions getting stuck. Stuck transactions = unusable currency.

Zercoin is what we are looking forward to. But we need to fix our current codebase. If people start buying ANC during Zerocoin beta and get transactions stuck faith will be lost before public release. Since our code is open source, others will steal the hard work of Gnosis on Zerocoin and implement it without the bugs (stuck transactions) that are currently being ignored.

This needs to be top priority.

Are transactions getting stuck anywhere else besides Cryptsy?

If not, then the problem is obviously on Cryptsy's end.

And once zerocoin goes mainstream, other exchanges will see a rise in volume and Cryptsy won't be the only game in town anymore...

Then Mullick will see to it that the problem is fixed.

If, on the other hand, transactions are getting stuck elsewhere besides Cryptsy, then I have to agree that fixing the problem
ought to be priority #1 for the reason newb4now posted.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: October 02, 2014, 12:23:44 AM
Ok I'm taking into account three modifications:

-Headings in darker color
-changing "In practice, as the number of people participating in the "mix" increases, the harder it is to figure out after the fact the transaction linkages."

And about this
Found something!  Blockchain is one word, same goes for websites.
I was not too sure until I read this kind of official (?) websites where block chain is two words:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_chain

-so what do we decide, blockchain 1 word or 2 ?

after that's done, by tomorrow, I'll post the Final final version here, and start posting on other places ! Smiley

This looks fantastic, alacast!  Thank you for the great work.  I can't wait to share this.

I vote for blockchain to be one word.

One other thing, in the very last paragraph, I would suggest changing 'informations' to 'information.'
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: September 30, 2014, 07:47:29 PM

Also about the proof reading, yoyo told me to correct this:
"By using Zerocoin you would exchange 2 anoncoins for 2 zerocoins, which would be added to all the other zerocoins in the Anoncoin blockchain cryptographic accumulator, waiting there to be redeemed."

So what happens to those coins in terms of visibility in the blockchain? They are shown as being transfered from the person's wallet to where?

Also, zerocash has 7 ivy league level experts creating an anonymous coin while anoncoin has one person who is working on a salary. If a major flaw is found in zerocoin after its release, and it seems highly likely that will be the case, does anc have a fallback plan? Would it keep patching zerocoin? Switch to something better?

The number of Ivy League degrees working on zerocash really doesn't matter if users are asked to *trust* that the key has been destroyed in order assure anonymity.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: September 27, 2014, 06:13:22 PM
What about the 158 GH of network hashrate !!!! Is it clear whether or not is there an attack going on. Is there any credible  info ?

just to clearify,

there appears to be a larger multipool which periodically mining our coin. I roughly estimate the hashrate of this multipool is 5-6gigahashes per seconds approximately 60% of our total average hashrate. combined with a fluctuation in miner interest and a shitty difficulty targeting algo (kgw), there will be some sporadic periods of block finding delays until we switch to AuxPoW. Just to get an idea of the size of this mining pool, a Zues ASIC Miner is 300Mh/s and the Viper Litecoin ASIC Miner is 50 Mh/s so this mining pool is equlivant to about 20-100 ASICs,

158Gh/s is equivalent to the total LiteCoin hashrate, which would bring our difficulty orders of magnitudes higher than it is now. Nobody would spend that kind of hashrate on us with malicious intent when they could fork us without wasting hundreds of millions.

Yes, when the value of a coin doubles in a week, you can expect quite a bit of mining interest.

If there were an attack, we'd all know it, without a doubt by now, I think.

The increased mining interest would possibly indicate that our beloved troll's efforts have failed.... miserably.

Ever notice that when most people say, 'no offense,' they are totally being offensive?

So, Gnosis has already addressed the idea.  In the future, if/when we need to expand security, there can simply be a message added to wallets, wiki, forums, websites, etc. which warns zANC holders that they must redeem their coins before a specified date.

And with certain agencies already crowing about the increased security of apple and android, it's sure that wise persons will want to protect their privacy.

A nice solution.

Keep up the good work, gentlemen.  You are actually helping to make the world a better place.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: September 27, 2014, 05:20:46 AM
From my understanding of RSA UFOs, that is not true as Gnosis only received N and there is no way for him to figure out the factorization of N, which is two large unfactorable numbers P and Q. By combining multiple RSA UFOs, I think Anoncoin is using 13, it ensures that the person that solved one of the UFOs in the distributed computing project cannot know the final accumulator, and Gnosis can't either since he doesn't know the factorization of the 13 RSA UFOs. It makes sense to me how it works and you are incorrect in saying Gnosis knows the factorization of N, as without a LOT of computing power it is impossible for him to know that.

The only worry I have about the RSA UFO project is that possibly someone already knows the factorization of N (IE. The government), or someone will later find it out with faster processors in the future. I am not sure if this is a realistic thing to be worried about though, as the only thing I know about this stuff is from doing research on ZeroCoin/Zerocash/Anoncoin. I will try to reach out to the Zerocash Devs to get their opinion on the RSA UFO project, as I would trust their opinion over a random poster on these forums (no offense).

I was also concerned about this but Gnosis assured me that at any point in the future we can generate a larger set of RSA UFOs and upgrade the network with a hard fork if we had to.

That is good to know, so that alleviates one of my worries. I think it would go a long ways, as to my other concern of the government already knowing the factorization, to extend the RSA UFO project indefinitely. That way the security of the accumulator can be upgraded via a hard fork when bigger UFOS are found at a later date. That way over time the chance the NSA has already cracked the UFOs gets smaller and smaller.

Yes I think its a good idea.  Hell, maybe we can build the RSA UFO generator right into the wallet, have everyone churning RSA UFOs all day if they want to, then do yearly hardforks to incorporate the new juicy UFOs.

That is a good idea, and I think it would go a long ways towards instilling trust in the RSA UFOs used to create the accumulator. Building it into the client would make it more likely that people would partake in the generation of the UFOs.

Even better, if we could figure out a way to incentivize people to do it they would be more likely to do so. If this could be figured out I think Anoncoin would have something really special here. By changing the PoW to RSA UFO generation it would incentivize them by rewarding them block rewards. I'm not sure what Anoncoin's block time is, but you could take the largest UFO generated per block and reward the finder with some Anoncoins. I would suggest switching from PoW to a form of PoS so it costs much less to secure the block chain. That would free up some Anoncoins in each block reward to be awarded to the person that generates the biggest UFO.

I don't have enough technical knowledge to figure out if this is plausible or not, but if it is possible then it could really help the long term sustainability and security of the project. There are already talks of switching to auxPoW, why not switch to something like ufoPoW if it is possible. Hopefully Gnosis or Meeh can comment as to if this would be possible to do in some way or another. Perhaps it could be done in another way and the way I stated is impossible... either way if it can be done I think it would be a great thing to do.

This is a great idea, if it can be done.  It has already been demonstrated that there will not be generated as many ANCs as was initially anticipated.  Thus, blocks could be awarded to the producers of new UFOs without creating inflation of the ANC's value.

Thoughts, Dev team?

@Gnosis: What are your arguments against it?

Wait... so all this time you've been saying the Gnosis isn't even competent enough to write the code,
and now you are saying the he not only wrote a secret code, but also wrote a separate app to post for
the world to see and review?

I don't think you do like fish sticks.  And even if you claim to, how would we know that you were actually
eating fish sticks and not chicken fingers?
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: September 23, 2014, 11:26:24 AM
Can you ellaborate how you concluded the chance of factorization of a single UFO by an extremely powerful attacker is ~20%? To me a probability only makes sense if you take the variable time into account. How can a powerful attacker have a ~20% chance of factorization spending either 1 day or 1 year of computing power trying to factorize the number?

Okay, you're right. Pick any timespan you want, say, one year. A powerful attacker would be one that can find factors by ECM up to 768 bits and factor numbers up to 2048 bits by GNFS in one year. Such an attacker would then have a ~20% chance of factoring any one of those UFOs in that timespan. Assuming the capacity does not change, in 13 years, the attacker would have had a 1 in a billion chance of factoring all of them, because the attacker would have had enough time to be able to try all 13 in that time. Does that make sense?

Again, I should point out that this attacker would be far beyond what even the NSA is likely to be able to do for decades.

If in 10 years we are worried about someone breaking the all of the UFOs is it possible to upgrade the ZC implementation to use a new larger set of UFOs?

Yes, with a software upgrade (a hard fork). The new software would require that all newly minted zerocoins use the new UFO set. We give everyone, say, a one year deadline to mint all zerocoins in the old UFO set back into ANC (obviously it should be announced repeatedly, in as many places online as possible), and after that year, zerocoins can only be spent from the new UFO set.

Was going to stay out of this bickering but something is definitely rotten here.

A lot of anonymous coins are coming out.
Most of the newer ones are both 'trustless' and do not involve introducing new variables that could serve as back doors.

So many people here are trying to force others to trust Anoncoin and Zerocoin. I do not trust it. I do not trust the pushy people trying to confuse others with big words. It looks like a tag team wrestling show. A lot of fake arguments to sell tickets.

Some expert needs to look into this and find out what is going on. And by expert I don't mean the bs experts on this thread.

Welcome to the forum.... if you are genuinely interested and not like some others who are new here.

Actually the opposite is true.  Shrill posters are attempting to force us to not trust in ANC/ZC in spite of the fact that they are not reading the readily available info, and in spite of contradicting themselves while searching for potential weak points to exploit in what seem to be childishly repetitive arguments.

Mostly we have let them harp on the points they have chosen, until the have enough rope to hang themselves, and then we show how they are wrong/misinformed/lying.

Most of us here who have been posting for a year or more have read what's out there... many have contributed in fact, as they are able.

The trolls therefore seem to be focused on the new arrivals and those with casual interest in ANC.  First they argued against holding the posting of code until ZC is live on the main net; then they tried to harp on the missed deadlines; they have attacked devs directly; now they are trying to exploit a slightly complicated implementing of the method of blind encryption the devs have chosen to create the anonymous mixing of coins.

Stick around all who are interested.  All will be made clear very soon, and then all the fakes and fakers will be forced to sit down and shut up.  Personally, I'm looking forward to that.
