21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: May 30, 2014, 07:52:53 PM
It's already about 48 hours since I've sent Qora to my Poloniex account. Still no signs of the funds nor signs of Poloniex staff concerns about the issue.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: May 30, 2014, 04:43:32 AM
I've sent 2.9M Qora to my account in Poloniex more than 30 hours ago (txid: 43tEAj5YV75MoFPuY39WCEPBpG3tSukL2ZrsTBSvjtsJfFRDSnWKWQtjvgMKjawN6Zt5BnouJ1t97c4 dvfbAfAgt).
The tx has 325 confirmations already, price went far south. Qora trading was frozen and later resumed. Still no funds in my account.
P.S. And they still accept Qora deposits!

Hello devs.

It seems that this link is dead:
http://5.9.123.114:19775/

Also there is(was) another security issue here which I'm concerned of.
We need to make new accounts by writing(pasting) the passphrase
over an unencrypted connection.

Isn't there a security risk in a way that someone could tap  the
communication between the user computer and  your server
and could read and know all the passphrases that were sent to generate account
numbers?
Are those newly created accounts only for beta testing?
Will we have to register and create new accounts over a secure connection after the
testing is ended?!

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Good questions. I agree, only secure connection should be used for accounts creation.

Used Anon136's service for Qora IPO. Everything went smoothly. Thank you, Anon.

On peers list I see two peers at 127.0.0.1. What does that mean?

That is you Wink
Looks like a bug?

27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Litecoin so cheap? on: May 08, 2014, 03:45:32 PM
a coin for circulation, and it can't be Litecoin either, because it's too rare for that, just like Bitcoin
There will be nearly as many as 21*1012 microBitcoins, on average it's about 3000 per every human being on the planet, and every microBitcoin is still dividable to 100 pieces.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Litecoin so cheap? on: May 08, 2014, 02:37:48 PM
Your right litecoin's development team have contributed nothing to bitcoin in terms of bug and security fixes in the last serval months and the coin you hold has right ?
I don't know about bugfixes. But Bitcoin #9 contributed exactly nothing in terms of innovation, unlike some other rare examples of altcoins. I'm sure several more teams from altcoin world are able contribute to Bitcoin too, and I suspect they already do. Bitcoin repository has 198 contributors. It's so many, that imo it's unlikely, that there are no some altcoin developers among them besides Litecoin developers. But still, that doesn't make their own shitcoins less worthless.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Litecoin so cheap? on: May 08, 2014, 02:18:10 PM
You can argue either way. Yeah, of all the alts Litecoin is probably one of the better ones, or at least was one of the first, but at the end of the day it doesn't really offer much in originality or innovation either, but like you said, I'm sure there's always a few people who are angry that they missed out on whatever coin and now just slag it off when they can.
Weighed words. I can add that Litecoin added exactly nothing, even it's PoW hashing function - scrypt was used in earlier Bitcoin clones. Litecoin is just Bitcoin #9. It appeared because some people were angry that they missed BTC when it was 1 USD worth.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Litecoin so cheap? on: May 08, 2014, 01:52:18 PM
There are supposed to be four times more litecoins (84 million) than bitcoins (21 million) so with everything else being equal, Litecoin should cost 1/4 that of Bitcoin. But Litecoin is currently trading at about 10 dollars each while Bitcoin is trading at around 400-500 dollars each which makes it undervalued by a factor of 10.

Has it got something to do with the distribution curve (ie. more litecoins are produced in the first few years compared to Bitcoin)?
Why don't you create another bitcoin clone with 21M coins. Then one your 300coin should cost 1 BTC, right?

OK... http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/btcnCNY#rg180ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zv - that's BTC China's 6-month chart, with volume bars. What am I looking for? (I'm seeing high volume around the December/January peak, and low - but fairly consistent - volume from late January onwards. Initial thoughts are that that's what I'd expect to see on any exchange - what am I missing?)
https://www.cryptocoincharts.info/v2/coins/graphicalComparison
OK, maybe their chart is inaccurate, however...
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the biggestest threats to Bitcoin? on: May 02, 2014, 08:39:37 PM
As for bugs in Bitcoin, don't developers test for bugs in clones of Bitcoin..
It doesn't matter, do they test or not, because they don't go ahead of bitcoin development. And most of them are not capable of thorough testing, all they are able to do is just copy/paste code, clone repos, change several numeric parameters, and that's it. And usually they are not even able to merge code improvements from Bitcoin to their clones in timely manner. Basically, changes are first tested on Bitcoin, and then, sooner or later (maybe never) get incorporated into their code.
Additionally all the clones have much much lower tps rate, i.e. their nets are working under much less load, and bugs are less likely to come out.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bobby Lee's answers to the Bitcoin Foundation Board Election debate questions on: May 02, 2014, 08:17:08 PM
Well bitcoiners are detached from reality then. Look at how much volume it sucked out bitcoin in various exchanges like btc-e okcoin btcchina etc... You must not be serious that there will not be consequences. let alone people me that dont want to take this serious and build stuff for bitcoin. There are so many consequences including loss of confidence in the ecosystem and that is reflected on the price.
I'm in the same unhip, behind-the-times boat as Siegfried - your theory is a new one for me. Up 'til now I think most people were working on the assumption that the Chinese exchanges have been losing volume because the People's Bank of China has made it nigh on impossible for people to get money in and out of exchanges.
ThePurplePlanet talks about trading volume sucked from Bitcoin by Bitcoin #9 (Litecoin), just take a look at their trading volume.
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has The Bitcoin Foundation lost its fuckin' mind... on: May 02, 2014, 08:11:34 PM
I don't know who is Brock Pierce, but having Bobby Lee leading the list, I tend to agree with you
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bobby Lee's answers to the Bitcoin Foundation Board Election debate questions on: May 02, 2014, 08:04:52 PM
This is the first time I have heard the theory that exchanges accepting Litecoin has caused the market to decline.
But this is definitely not the last time. I personally sold significant part of my bitcoin holdings due to growing support of "Bitcoin number 9" aka Litecoin.
36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the biggestest threats to Bitcoin? on: May 02, 2014, 07:39:16 PM
Bitcoin clones. They are the biggest threat not only to Bitcoin but to cryptocurrencyes movement in general.
Do not agree.  Currently there are what, 50 alt currencies.  Or is it 100?  Or is it 25?  See?  It matters so little that we don't even really care how many alts there are.

We don't need too many of them to destroy everything. Even 1 clone could be enough.

BTW, I think there are now significanly more than 200 alternate cyprocurrencies, exact number indeed doesn't matter. Maybe 80% or so of them are Bitcoin clones. The rest are clones of several other key cryptocurrencyes which became centers their own swarms of clones (parasites). I can name a couple of them: PPC, NXT. May be there are more.

38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Foundation Election Yields No New Board Members on: May 02, 2014, 05:31:39 PM
I support Luke.
And who is Bobby Lee? For the sake of momentary profit, he recently added Bitcoin #9 aka Litecoin to his exchange. He helps to undermine one of the most important features of Bitcoin - finite supply.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GOLD can now be made in laboratories and what it means for bitcoins on: May 02, 2014, 04:38:32 PM
This doesn't affect gold market or gold supply. These bacteria just convert gold from one form to another. To actually CREATE gold at least a nuclear reactor is needed. I never heard of bacteria capable of carrying out nuclear reactions.
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What best coin to invest? on: April 28, 2014, 11:28:34 AM
Litecoin is the first coin with different algorithm. Other altcoins are just bad clones. Litecoin is supposed to replace silver, as Bitcoin replaces gold. It definitely has value.
Not true. The first altcoin to introduce scrypt was Tenebrix.
What you call "algorithm" is called: blockheader hashing function (bitcoin and it's clones use hashing functions for other purposes as well). All other hashing functions being used by Litecoin are the same as in Bitcoin.
LItecoin is nothing more than Bitcoin #9.

PS. Tenebrix announcement on this forum:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=45667.msg544675#msg544675

PPS. IMO invest in BTC and in coins which brought something new: PPC, NXT, maybe Exo, watch for them.
