21  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [HD] on: October 01, 2014, 09:24:42 AM
I suggest taking some pics when you take it apart.  If anything looks kinda weird, post them here.  If its possible, I'm sure someone here will be able to help you fix it.

Thanks, I will..  the seller suggested that i needed a stratum proxy, but I didn't have any issues with the previous cube I bought from the same seller (and the stratum proxy has been working properly with my blades also).

i just use vk.com for their music archive
I just checked it out but found nothing special.  If they are not showing ads, how will they pay the bills if the site becomes at all popular?
if something is free, then you're the product Wink

Cowboys vs Zombies is hands down the worst movie I've ever seen.. shoddy sets.. it's like Prince Valium from Spaceballs trying to play a cowboy

Then the cube is dead, as its a power related issue. Nothing you can do from your end, so send it back to your reseller / ASICMiner if its still under warranty. If not, sell it for parts or try and find someone local to have a look inside, there might be a component which is obviously fried and could be replaced. But at $20 market value its probably not worth it.
I bought it off a tradera auction so I don't it's any point trying to get a refund from the seller, considering it was cheap (and probably no warranty)
Might aswell take it apart and see if i can manage to fix it.

Check the power supply
Tried it with both a CX500 and a HX1000.. same problem. Don't have my other cubes at home so I can't compare

Edit: Corsair Smiley

Does the stratum proxy work ok on a 3g connection? I need to move my equipment and the new place doesn't have any wired internet.
29  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Blade Setup on: July 10, 2014, 12:21:07 PM
Is there any common reason to why a blade might die?
I have 4 defective blades collecting dust and I thought i'd give it a shot at repairing Tongue

Depends what stage of death. A multimeter would help.
I misplaced my multimeter, so i can't do much troubleshooting right now other than visual inspection. Two of them seem to have dark areas around the BE100 chips (and on the opposite side towards the heatsink) which suggests BBQ Tongue

I don't hate my life.. just that my wallet is empty :/

People, it's time to shut down your blades and cubes. They're obsolete, outdated, outmoded and out-classed. Turn them off and shove them to the recycle center.
I can recycle them for you.. Wink wink, nudge nudge Wink

If the cube shuts off after 2 seconds, is that a sign that the power supply is not good enough?

Yes, unless its a very high end PSU exhibiting surge protection.
Thanks. I managed to get both my cubes working (one just needed a new fuse). Will see if the Coolermaster B600 can handle two cubes Tongue

The seller suggested that I plug in the fuse after I turn on the psu, since I was having problems. Wouldn't something like this be more practical?

So yes, that's your limiter.
I think I found the culprit.. for some reason the latest version of Zonealarm FW+AV hogs all cpu time.
Cpu usage is still pretty high with only Stratum, with only the occational spikes to 100%
Both blades seems to be hashing at full capacity now after removing zonealarm and using something more cpu friendly

As for the two x:es, I'm only running two blades off a 800W rack psu.

Thank you for the exellent guide. I figured out  that "http://" in the bitminter pool address was the cause of my headaches when playing around with the stratum proxy.

That would do it. Pool addresses aren't http based so it would cause an error.
I'm getting about 7.5-8 Mhs from both blades but one of them seems to have two x:es.. Could the slow hashrate be due to the Via C7 struggling with Stratum? (Via C7@1Ghz, 1Gb DDR2 and 60Gb SSD). I'll try to post a screenie
Look at your CPU usage, maybe. Try turning one blade off and seeing if the other's goes up.

You may also be power limited if two Xs are up.
Cpu usage on the Via box is at 100% :/  Turning off bitminter didn't help...
40  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Minimum Requirement for Stratum? on: April 07, 2014, 12:55:56 PM
Thanks for the input. Could it be the reason why the blades aren't hashing at full capacity?
I'll try to turn off some services that aren't needed, and if it doesn't get better I guess I need to switch to linux.

The Esther cpu is pretty slow and I think the rpi might be a tad quicker...

Edit: Hmm.. some process was hogging everything. I'm trying one blade and cpu usage is between 60-80%. Esther CPU is operating at 1.3Ghz now. It's still pretty high. Will see what happens when I try to use both blades.

Edit2: Seems that Zonealarm Firewall + AV was bugged and slowing everything down. Cpu usage is still high but both blades seem to be hashing at full speed now
