how come people are still buying through bitcoinbuilder.. even at such a cheap price, isn't throwing money away??
22  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 25, 2014, 03:54:14 AM
and its crashing on BitStamp as well,
    Bitcoin price:
    $489.48

good time to transfer funds and wait for the bottom to buy?

I wish I had fiat on other exchanges to buy now.
I think the price reflects that people still believe in BTC, because even after all this shit with Gox, the price is "still" at about $500, imagine what it would be once the confidence comes back...
23  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 25, 2014, 03:40:21 AM
bitcoinbuilder is now at 0.075
24  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 25, 2014, 03:37:09 AM
Gox's website is now offline as well, serving a blank homepage.
Confirmed at 00:27 GMT -3

holy shit...

is this really the end? or could it mean that they are restarting their system (incredible wishful thinking)?

......And.......

The twitter feed has been vacuumed.  LOL
[…]

i wonder if that means they want to start off on a clean slate....or if their attorneys advised them to remove the tweets?

It could mean that the first lawsuit is hitting them.
Not sure whether that's good or bad for us...

If you still have money there and you are not part of the lawsuit, it's bad for you. Because the ones filling the lawsuit will have priority to get their money back (if they win), and then there might be nothing left.

Overall, it is good for the market as it will create pressure on the other exchanges to become more professional.

Yes indeed folks.  Most of us here have at one time entrusted tens, hundreds, even thousands of thousands of dollars to a business who just showed they believe they can delete the internet. Smiley

it looks like one more evidence that they are under investigation and can't communicate to the outside world anymore.

As for me, a couple of days ago, I sold my BTC through bitcoinbuilder, I lost half the investment I put just a week before BTC withdraws were halted (yes I am one of those idiots who bought it at almost the highest price).
But at least, I have no longer any fiat/BTC at Gox. I hope in a few months the price will recover on all exchanges and then I can sell the BTC and recover my initial investment.

I hope whoever has still fiat/BTC at Gox can recover their investment soon - or at least assume the loss and get out now.

itsunderstood care to take out your garbage

Agree, can we make an effort to keep the conversation to the strict minimal and only speak when have new information/ interesting points or questions to make?

there's been too much trolling on this thread lately...

Also, can we make an effort on grammar and punctuation? I don't mind the odd typo, but text talk is too annoying.

Thank you

rofl. so many different doomsaying theories here.

it WOULD be worth a visit to the local police box. im curious if they would have anything to say. they arent really the types to know about financial regulation BUT some interesting stuff would include any protesters actually registering complaints, and DEFINITELY whether the gawks has had trouble/contact/run-ins with yakuza. bitcoin being unregulated, its just the sort of stuff the yakuza enjoy. and certainly the only group representing a real "security threat".

however you'll note that there are many people living in japan (and tokyo) whose btc are stuck in gox and none of them seem to care enough to do so. i imagine the little protest stunt will be HIGHLY embarassing in hindsight. but i guess some just did it for some internet notoriety and to try some sushi.

Is nobody familiar with the Japanese law? There must be a way to force a kind of solvency check, for instance if you are a supplier and not getting your money...
Did nobody sue Gox yet? That's so unbelievable considering the amount of money into play.

Forget that solvency check already.

If they were near bankrupcy, do you think they COULD go to another office?

Do you guys seriously think an office contract is a short-term, cheap thing to do, and these offices are being just handed out to anyone who wants to have a warm, cozy place?

oooh, this guys is very smart. renting in japan is expensive and requires huge down payments. also, you need to show your ability to pay (via solvency or a guarantor). that being said, unfortunately one must accept the possibility that its office space theyve had all along...

Well the new address they gave was a virtual office, and they have been using that address in the past, so it should be easy for them to swap regardless of their financial situation.

yes, where?
30  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 20, 2014, 07:58:04 AM
The price didn't go below 195EUR for the last 24 hours because somebody had placed a huge order at that price (look at the charts). Once the order was filled up, the price started to plummet...  just a theory.
31  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 20, 2014, 07:53:41 AM
I hope this was just due to bots and not some insider trading job...

abobe "rules"

What are those?

I just found out that my account has been blocked. They request AML (Anti-Money-Laundering) verification again. (My account had already been verified.)

There was no warning. I would have expected a timely email, like, "Dear valued customer, your AML verification will expire soon. …"

There is also no warning on the trading web site. Everything looks absolutely normal until I enter a bitcoin withdrawal order, fill in the amount, the destination address of another Mt. Gox account, etc., and finally confirm the order. Only then I get a message that my account is no longer working and that verification is required.

I have to deduce that I will also not receive an email informing me of the re-verification, so I will have to log on daily and attempt a bitcoin transfer to find out. Is there any quicker way to check for verification?

How long ago did you get your account verified? I didn't know you had to renew this task.. is there any other reason you think they might have done that to you?
have you used the site bitcoinbuilder or similar to trade BTC within Gox?
37  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 19, 2014, 02:28:59 AM
My 6 figure withdrawal got canceled within 24 hours by them, no email and in my trading history it said.
'Withdrawals to account **** are currently unavailable, please try again later or use another method.'
What fucking method may that be I wonder.

Now my withdrawal daily limit is zero a day in fiat. I am fully verified sent Govt docs to them ages ago. Disgraceful when they have collected tens of thousands in fees from me.

I dont care if they are doing the right thing behind the scenes and Karples pulls a fluffy bunny out of his arse, this let them eat cake attitude will only work for so long.

Can you provide a bit more info? is this a SEPA transfer? Have you made any transactions with BitInstant? Maybe your bank stopped accepting transfers from Gox?

Also has anybody used the http://skanner.net/MtGox/cwithdrawal.php to cancel withdrawal? I wouldnt really trust the site to give away my credentials.

I had used them. You only need to create an API key with "deposit" and "getinfo" access rights, therefore there is no chance you're going to lose any funds etc. Just follow their step-by-step guide how to create the key. You are not giving them any credentials this way.

Cancelling is immediate. Then you can (and should) delete the API key you created previously. Easy as a pie.

Whave, I tried to cancel the request. I followed the steps mentioned on the skanner site. But then the amount of the withdrawal to be credit back to my acount was minus the fee ( 1%). Does it mean that Mtgox will charge me for the fee anyway? Is there a way to get back the fee?

that's odd. They didn't charge me any fee. Did you double check on your account history? You should have two entries for Withdraw/Deposit by the exact same amount

So you want to buy cheap BTC, I understand that part. But, are you not worried not being able to withdraw anything? Can I ask, what is your strategy?

are you seriously interested in my strategy? You do realize I'm just a newbie here, hence not in the position to give any advice to expert people.
I'm just trying to maximize the probability to get back what I put (my big mistake) into Gox, according to currently available information. And it seems quite clear that fiat withdrawal are more likely to succeed if they are split into smaller amounts... but then comes into play the infamous 20 days rule, so it's always a trade-off.
As soon as I canceled the biggest withdrawal for 10k€, the first one for 1k€ changed its status to pending. Then I submitted a new withdrawal for a lower amount and yes, I also bought a few of those cheap btc, just to leave all options open...

Well I am just curious to hear different opinions. As I am in a very similar position as you and I want to think properly what options I have and the risk for each option.
