I'm in, why not.

Would be better if you made it provably fair though.
22  Other / Meta / Re: Spammathon: Brought to you by Candystripes on: October 29, 2014, 08:08:54 PM
Candystripe is the kind of person that will scam when it makes sense for him to do so.

Trust me on this - I have significant experience in Bitcoin lending.

Also, mods should ban Candystripe for spamming.

You know what they say, it takes one to know one Grin
23  Other / Meta / Re: MagicalTux & DefaultTrust [ Why ?] on: October 20, 2014, 04:55:46 PM
I've only ask you one question :

What is the meaning of the word : Trust ?

Nothing else .  An untrustworthy person/user in the defaultTrust list is not admittable.

The name DefaultTrust is somewhat misleading. "PeopleWhoLeaveAccurateFeedbackList" is more accurate but it doesn't have the same ring to it Grin
24  Other / Meta / Re: MagicalTux & DefaultTrust [ Why ?] on: October 20, 2014, 04:50:21 PM
It's not a problem to have a scammer in the DefaultTrust. It's only a problem if someone in DefaultTrust leaves people feedback that is false and MagicalTux hasn't done that. A non-scammer could leave people false feedback too and have to be removed from DefaultTrust. Being in DefaultTrust doesn't mean you're trustworthy, you don't get a higher score or anything.

He's still in DefaultTrust because he's on John K's list. theymos would have to remove John from DefaultTrust in order to remove MagicalTux, John was a global mod and a forum treasurer so maybe theymos doesn't want to remove him.

John could also remove MagicalTux himself but I think John is away from the forums due to health problems.

What is the meaning of the word : Trust ?

My DefaultTrust is that by default I do not trust anyone.

You're right Wink .

I think maybe you misunderstand what the DefaultTrust list is.

If you are on the DefaultTrust, your feedback shows up as confirmed.

If you are not on the DefaultTrust, your feedback shows up as unconfirmed.

Has MagicalTux abused this in anyway?

If not, then why must we remove him?

26  Other / Meta / Re: Time to Move Bitcoin 2.0 tech (Counterparty/Mastercoin) out of "Alt Coins" on: October 07, 2014, 03:08:46 PM
I really don't see what differentiates counterparty and mastercoin from other altcoins hence why I don't think they deserve their own subforum. As was already mentioned, putting your transaction data into the Bitcoin blockchain doesn't make your coin Bitcoin, it's still an altcoin. That doesn't mean those altcoins are useless, but they're not Bitcoin and they're not Bitcoin 2.0.

By the way, discussion about how an altcoin affects or differs from Bitcoin may be posted on subforums other than alternate cryptocurrencies, so discussions about blockchain bloat caused by altcoins are allowed outside of the altcoin section.
27  Other / Off-topic / Re: Warning to Bitcoiners on: October 06, 2014, 03:58:27 AM
Seems that the ISP's are now messing with the p2p network to the point that bitcoind is not syncing, or will take forever to do so. Torrents are no longer working, if they do, it's not worth it.. I believe they are slowing p2p down to the point that this WILL affect bitcoin users worldwide sooner than you think.. This is the lowest price I have seen bitcoin in a long time, and I believe it's due to this ISP messin with the speed at which you can download the blockchain..

Assetion Failed!

Program // bitcoin-qt.exe
File: main.cpp, line 1761

Expression: hashPrevBlock == view.GetBestBlock()

Maybe I'm wrong, but I dont think so.. Sad

This error is happening every half hour or so..

ISP's messing with Bitcoin?

I know certain ISP's have throttled the speed of torrents and gnutella in the past due to the high amount of upload traffic from them, but I don't think any ISP has throttled Bitcoin traffic yet.

Currently a full node only needs to download a maximum of 144MB per day, thats not a lot and shouldn't concern ISP's.

That error you are getting doesn't indicate that your connection is being throttled. What version are you running?
28  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: chalidore - suspected purchased account on DefaultTrust used to further scams on: October 04, 2014, 10:23:52 PM
Check out this interesting post:

I lost all my mining profits since I started mining back in 2010. I'm looking for work now. there is no way I will be able to recover from this. I'm done with crypto.
The problem with Bitcoin, and with capitalism in general, is there is always gonna be some selfish asshole that ruins it for everyone by finding a way to cheat honest players out of the market, until the cheaters are the only ones left playing the game.

Posted on March 22nd, next post after it was in September.

....

Can you sign a message using this Bitcoin address you posted? That should clear things up.

Add me please.

30  Other / Meta / Re: We Don't Accept Unconfimed Transactions, Why Accept BS Posts All Day? on: October 04, 2014, 10:11:18 PM
simple math, say 51% of viewers flag it..

That would let every sockpuppet master essentially become a moderator.
31  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-10-4] Bitcointalk Staff Quietly Bans People for Speaking Out Against Them on: October 04, 2014, 10:07:47 PM
Haha, I tried to read this article and I got an error saying my IP was banned (I was using Tor).
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My company can no longer take BTC. on: October 04, 2014, 03:45:22 PM
If you are only receiving money on your website, there is no need to run bitcoind or any other wallet software on it. Have the wallet on your own computer, and store a list of bitcoin addresses on your server.

When someone places an order, link their invoice to the bitcoin address. Use something like blockchain.info's API to check if the payment was received.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia to Issue Ban and fines for Cryptocurrency Use on: October 04, 2014, 01:21:25 AM
This article is old and misleading.

There has been a ban on using any currency other than rubles to transact in Russia for quite some time. It is not legal to use USD or EUR in Russia.

Bitcoin was always subject to this but it wasn't actively enforced. This "ban" isn't on Bitcoin, it is on all currencies other than Russian rubles.

34  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: October 02, 2014, 10:18:42 AM
lol is funny how you guys try to connect me by names and post activity, etc.  Keep going!!!
hows this I have over 50 alt accounts, via hero accounts, but most you cant proove there connected.  some accounts you wont even think there alts of me.  Damn time to get to work forgotten password.  how much they paying you?

Those two accounts were not identified because they have similar names or because they log in at similar times.

And I don't care enough to actually go and find your alts and list them out. Why would I waste my time on a bottom-feeder.
35  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: October 02, 2014, 10:09:57 AM
Do you have proof? Those accounts belonged to an account farmer (or at least used to - could be zolace I suppose) but I think the umairsaleem010 one was sold to someone and it got banned for 60 days soon after: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=730320.0

@zolace  get your spam off my thread.

And im still banned. Also I didnt participate in the same sig campaign.

forsakenpnut is the alt account of umairsaleem010 so the above would suggest it wasn't, unless it was a double bluff.

well if you bought an account for sig purposes then your abusing them anyway cause only one person can participate in the sig campaign one time, thus, the op of the sig should be warned

lol.

I should have mentioned, umairsaleem010 appears to have been sold to forsakenpnut. I do not think forsakenpnut is zolace, but I am fairly confident that both umairsaleem010 and umair9829 once belonged to zolace.
36  Other / New forum software / Re: Email Address to Personal Message? on: October 02, 2014, 09:34:29 AM
Bad idea. The forum will have a lot to deal with such as IP blacklisting from people spamming. I believe back in 2011 the forum had issues with IP blacklisting from the automated forum messages.

Like you said, there are lots of free email providers. Best to have forum staff focus on what is important. Maintaining an email service is a lot of extra work.

On a side note, I have heard some suspicious rumors from a number of people that forum staff have violated the privacy of PM messages. It's all FUD at this point, but it was enough to convince me to turn off PM's.
37  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: October 02, 2014, 09:26:16 AM
More of his sockpuppets:

umair9829: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=55349
umairsaleem010: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=76446

Looks like he also buys/sells accounts here.
38  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] BT user zolace on: October 02, 2014, 08:45:46 AM
Looks like zolace deleted this post:

Quote from: zolace
I contacted you and try this work this out long ago, but you labeled me scammer the first day of the mistake.  No excuse for what I did.  I even pm you to work it out that day as well but you did it anyway right?    Post all my PMs Tim to show that I wanted to work it out?  Timz I remember who you are, you bought from me once I believe if not then your name does sound familiar as I erase most of my messages I cant recall if I sold you before or not.  I dont care if im paid for posting or now, Im still gonna keep posting,

Its chump change you all can keep your negatives, all you did tim was stopped my one sale at this website, I have other sites I sell from and yes I dont use the same user name so go ahead and try to look for them.  by the way most of those accounts up there are not mine, Thank god you didnt get my other 30 accounts I was smart to keep them hidden Grin  try harder bear, now Ill go back to posting, see ya
39  Other / Meta / Re: How often DefaultList is updated and can it be automated a bit? on: October 01, 2014, 01:06:35 AM
The list of people directly in DefaultTrust is rarely updated, but the default trust depth is 2 by default so if you are in the list of someone in DefaultTrust your feedback will show up as trusted.

if somebody from default ads somebody under him - then that perosn gets into default too.

That already happens like I explained above.
40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / PayPals "Payments Hub" page had Bitcoin listed on it! on: September 30, 2014, 09:33:57 PM
https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=cache%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.paypal.com%2Fwebapps%2Fmpp%2Fpaymentshub&btnG=

Looks like they've since taken it down:
https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paymentshub

It went live earlier today.

It looks like you'll be able to use Bitcoin as a funding source when buying things on PayPal, in the same way you can fund your purchases on PayPal using your credit card.

This is very very very good news!
