21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Official Sexcoin Thread - New MANDATORY upgrade: KGW Timewarp attack FIX on: May 09, 2014, 04:34:38 PM
The idea is that we will basically force the users to update, since their client will be broken the next time they pay attention to it.

It is surprising to me no one yet implemented some automatic alert system into cryptocoin wallets. If wallet connects to multiple nodes that report
the same higher wallet version, longer blockchain and send some invalid data then warn user to check coin website or forum thread for updated wallet.
There can be more criterias that need to be fulfilled for warning to popup (to prevent abuse) but it can be done and would help solve issues big time.

Also, Bitcoin has instant messaging system where Gavin Andresen can send messages to all nodes on network, will SXC ever get something like that?

that's the alert system, the private/public keys were just changed in client 6.4.5, and we havne't had a chance to setup the code to send messages (that's not part of the clients, or public in general)

so, yes, that ability is in the client and ready to be tested Smiley

23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Official Sexcoin Thread - New MANDATORY upgrade: KGW Timewarp attack FIX on: May 09, 2014, 04:22:32 AM
Hi all!

Is there anyone working on the website? It doesn`t feel right that you should have to go through forums to get the latest info. Also, the website really need a new style.
And why is Facebook never updated?

I believe these are quite important requirements to get SexCoin on track for glory, agree?

The forums at sexcoinforum.org has sort of become "the place" where the most up to date info resides.
The website is slowly being worked on... very slowly, well, there's plans to work on it Smiley

You make good points.

Admin access is shared with whoever wants to help, so if you truly want to manage the facebook page and make it a real sexcoin resource, pm coingrl80 on the forums ( sexcoinforum.org ) she would love social/PR help.

Obviously we're not just publicly posting the log in info and we dont' want to allow anyone to take over a sexcoin site/service and prevent any current admins from logging in, but we have no problem allowing access for real admin help. In fact we'd love to see a someone put together a new site or part of a new site.... or improvements for the existing site.

It comes down to womanpower/manpower ... we dont' have enough.

I registered on the forum and sent a PM as you suggested, happy to contribute.

awesome! thanks!

Dear Sexcoin Community

we have an important announcement to make:

The KimotoGravityWell retargeting algorithm is vulnerable to a timewarp attack.  It's effectively a 51% attack with less than 51% of hashpower.

To fix the vulnerability a new  MANADATORY Upgrade has been released. At block 643,808 the KWG fix will be activated.  It is estimated to be this Friday 14 May, noon GMT.

Here are the download links:

Windows:
http://www.sexcoinforum.org/index.php?board=14.0

Source Code:
http://www.sexcoinforum.org/index.php?board=19.0

Linux and MAC Builds will be available ASAP. Please check http://www.sexcoinforum.org for the updates.

Please upgrade ASAP and help us spread this news about the mandatory upgrade. It is important that everyone (Exchanges, Mining Pools, Payment Systems) upgrades to fight the timewarp attack.
Thank you for your help and have a nice day.

Regards,
The Sexcoin Forum Team

I don't know the ways how to reach majority of people using SXC local wallets but situation on the network is not good. 90% or more nodes my node
was connected to recently are still v6.4.5 or older ones. At least make sure Cryptsy, Poloniex and other exchanges and also pools switched on time.

In general, due to lack of interest to stay up to date and irresposibility, there will be many SXC users who will probably not switch even a year later.  Tongue

yes, coiner has contacted the pools etc. and we have word from cryptsy that they would update a few days ago. Not sure about other exchanges but I assume he at least tried.

The idea is that we will basically force the users to update, since their client will be broken the next time they pay attention to it.

I still see some 6.4.1 clients out there, which are not possibly working since 6.4.4 KGW feature went into effect at block 572K

the seeder status below shows somethign much different than actual sexcoind connections shown below.
I dont exaclty know how often it polls knonw nodes or does rediscovery

but, from my sexcoind output there is 30% penetration of 6.4.6 now..... not good, but I think we will survive since the pools have migrated and exchanges. both block explorers are upgraded also so when people go to check they should see the proper chain reported in block explorer.

Code:
[sxc@block ~]$ sudo service sexcoin-seeder status  | awk '{print $12}' | sort | uniq -c | sort -g -r
     38 "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.4/"
      7 "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.1/"
      4 "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.5/"
      3 "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.6/"
      1 version
[sxc@block ~]$ sexcoind getpeerinfo | grep "Sexcoin" | sort | uniq -c | sort -r
     46         "subver" : "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.4/",
     30         "subver" : "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.6/",
     23         "subver" : "/Sexcoin:0.6.4.5/",
[sxc@block ~]$

It is after all, an emergency bugfix hardfork, so there is a balance between having every last person upgrade vs waiting weeks/months like we did for the KGW fork

dear sex coin,

fork add the following and live for ever as queen coin

1. digibyte shield retarket
2. POS/POT scheme or x11 or N-factor [or ALL]

go for it Smiley . You seem to have a great name picked out already.

We have had enough hardforking for a while, and have plenty of major issues in the pipeline as it is. (deprecating dual magic after new magic kicks in at 680K, btc.9 port... among others.)

so, take advantage of it while you can, if you can. I predict we will be fixing it sooner than later now that you've pointed out it's being exploited Smiley

"sooner than later" turned out to be tonight, new source on github, windows binary up, mac and linux on the way asap.

hardfork block target is Friday May 9 at noon GMT.... based on 60 second block times.

Someone is dumping a lot of sexcoins right now, and I'm buying  Shocked

It seems someone is exploiting vulnerability found with KGW to mine as much as 10 blocks per minute (instead of just 1) without mining difficulty
increasing enough to compensate for such instamining. Just check blockrate at http://sxcexplorer.com/chain/Sexcoin to see it yourself. SXC difficulty
adjusts waaaaaaaaaaaay too fucking slowly! Attacker is someone with major hashpower, at least 5 times higher hashrate than rest of miners. Mined
coins are auto-sold at Cryptsy, in bursts.

2014-05-04 18:19:43   Buy   0.00000450   50.00000000
2014-05-04 18:19:42   Buy   0.00000450   49.95694564
2014-05-04 18:19:42   Buy   0.00000450   49.90358326
2014-05-04 18:19:42   Buy   0.00000450   49.78925152
2014-05-04 18:19:42   Buy   0.00000450   49.94097598
2014-05-04 18:19:41   Buy   0.00000450   49.86142246

I saw what he is doing and decided to enter the market for around 0.25 BTC total at 0.00000450 but until difficulty retargeting is fixed to react much
faster I won't be buying any more SXC. Instead, I'll put buy orders at 0.00000100 or less and wait.

we are aware of the kgw timewarp attack, the fix is another hardfork, but we are already waiting on the magic hardfork. I was hoping this would not prove to be a problem but ...

well, we can fix it just as aurora coin did here:
http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=552895.msg6016831#msg6016831

here is the "i'm going to hack your coin to prove you need to fix it" msg posted to aurora coin thread
http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=504103.msg5550654#msg5550654

so, take advantage of it while you can, if you can. I predict we will be fixing it sooner than later now that you've pointed out it's being exploited Smiley

I announced to early. Turns out, service can't be done at the moment. DNS seeding service will start after the hard-fork, which is announced to be at block 680000.
This has technical reasons, DNS seeding in SexCoin network can't be done before the changes coming with hard fork.

could you elaborate on those technical reason? I'm never run a dns seed node, but I can't see why it's not possible based on the sexcoin source code here:
http://github.com/sexcoin-project/sexcoin/blob/cfb60a8d0928cea2aac37d74b4e33fe8b52c2445/src/net.cpp#L1172

There is a hardfork at block 572000 to change the retargeting algorithm and another (2nd) hardfork for a magic number change at 680000. Both are in the current client.

How do you plan to determine the list of nodes returned for the dns query to your dnsseed node when it does go live?
I ask these questions because at the very least we could include your seednode in sexcoin.conf examples we may provide on the wiki etc. and possibly with the client

Thanks,
sxcer

I am going to offer a new DNS seed node services for the Sexcoin network in the next days. To allow SXC clients faster and efficienter node discovery on the network.

As you know, all coins with modern codebase and active developers are running DNS seed nodes now, to support or improve node discovery on their network. That's because node discovery via DNS seeds is very fast, efficient and cheap.

Node host name will be: dnsseed.sexcoin.us

That's great to hear.

It's not operational yet I see, but can you explain to me which hostnames/IPs you plan to return for a dns query on that name (dnsseed.sexcoin.us)

Will it be a static list of nodes? Which ones? Finally, will it include a dynamic list of nodes pulled from a running sexcoind?

Thanks,
sxcer

There seems to be 2 versions of 0.6.4.4 wallet, one is at http://sexcoin.info/ and the other is at http://sex-coin.info/project/

My question is witch one is the right one, are they the same?! Also it seems the 2 versions of 0.6.4.4 are placing wallet.dat at different directories.

yes, the one from sexcoin.info migrated to a portable/usb type directory layout. It ignores %APPDATA% and writes/reads only from the directory in which it is launched (or as configured with datadir= in sexcoin.conf)

The one at sex-coin.info is simply a rebuild without the portable/usb functionality.

It was decided that with all the other changes and chaos going on now, that we would not deal with the portable/usb feature at this time. There were several users of the new client who considered their wallets missing and the client to not be syncing since the client ignored their existing files in %APPDATA%

Our problem is that we do not have access to sexcoin.info to remove the binaries, the site, post a warning that it is a usb build and you will need to move your wallet.dat etc. Our only option to include the non-usb/portable Win32 binary, OSX binary, and a link to linux clients on the download page was to clone the site to a new domain so we could update things.

Sorry for the confusion but it is beyond our control as coiner-88 explained above and we just have to deal with it.

hello peeps
i mined sxc a while back and left it in the old qt client wallett,,,ive dl the new client (havent synced yet) and i want to get the coins from the old wallet into the new one,,which file do i need to replace in app data so the coins transfer over,,i cant get the old wallet to sync, any help would be much appreciated as i dont want to loose my sxc coins
thanks for reading

Please try this client build.

http://sxcexplorer.com/static/Sexcoin-qt-0.6.4.4-Win32.zip

It uses the old file locations and if you have not messed with things in your %APPDATA%\Sexcoin directory then it should pick up where you left off a few days ago... I hope!

eta: reading closer i see you may have been months since syncing, but it should still work for you
hi,thanks for that,i have got that qt already and im in the process right now of syncing, ive changed nothing at all in %appdata% so am i right in thinking all coins will show up without me changing anything ? seems too easy Smiley

I'm assuming you showed some coins present in the wallet that you had mined before you quit syncing. If so, then yes, you will see new coins appear after your client processes the blocks in which you received those coins.

Glad we could help!

Here's the windows qt client (that uses the same %APPDATA% wallet location, if you dont know what that means, you want this one)
http://sxcexplorer.com/static/Sexcoin-qt-0.6.4.4-Win32.zip

The github tree is current and includes Koguma's mac patches
