21  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [DEAD] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop, instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: August 20, 2017, 10:27:59 PM
mate i got 12 btc on there. slgn seemed to get his 2 years after. orderbook didnt help me.

I literally don't know how many BtC I left on deposit with DeepBit.  I had 6-7 computers in my business, and I would set them to mine on nights and weekends.  I never logged-in to my account, to see the amounts.  Then, I had some bad business hiccups in 2012, and was forced to quit mining.  Back then, while trying to avoid bankruptcy, it seemed like too much trouble to worry about accumulated BtC in my DeepBit account.  BtC wasn't worth all that much.  But now, BtC is well over $4K USD...and I'd like to have it.  But really, it's my own fault for not pulling it all out at the time...

I finally heard back from slushpool.  New service agent.  It seems that the customer service goal is to respond to all issues/questions within 24-hours.  This is good for the first report of a hack.  But is cumbersome when trying to hold a conversation or ask questions.  Every time I ask a question or send a file, I must wait roughly 20 hours for a reply.

The new agent gave me additional info.  Some of it...particularly email addresses...is very important.  I have asked for more info, including specific details on time and date stamps.

Waiting now for the reply.

If the agent is correct (and I assume this is the case) then the email address on the hijacked account is actually one of my other email addys.  It is one of my older addresses.  Difficult to explain how it is now on the hacked account.

Slushpool will still not reset my password, and allow me to login.  I have asked about this many times.  They won't do it, but they never say yes or no, either.

25  Bitcoin / Pools / Slushpool account hijacked - Customer support ignores messages on: July 05, 2017, 04:39:34 PM
I was posting in another thread.  Senior member suggested that I post something here.

I have been mining bitcoin with slushpool for years.  Recently I started to mine zec.

On the 4th of July, my slushpool account was hijacked.  I used the ticket system, described in post #1 in this thread.  Slushpool customer service sent only one message back.  Told me that my coins are stolen, and I should start a new account.  Very brief.  After that, they ignore all my messages.  They will not give my account back, and will not share info on the hack.  After one message, there is no response from customer service.  No interest from the slushpool IRC group.

Feels to me that slushpool has become too big to care much about small miners.  If user's account is hijacked, the thief gets all user's coins and gets to keep the account as well.  Slushpool is too big now, to work with users.  Also, if original user cannot login to his/her account, and thief never comes back, then slushpool will take any leftover coins after one year.  (This is in the ToS, described as a stale account.)  So, Slushpool has no motivation to restore a hijacked account.

Quote
It was only about 1.75 to 1.8 bitcoin.  Well below the interest threshold of a slushpool manager.  Few thousand dollars, USD.  But the big deal for me is that they won't give my account back, and they won't share info on the hack.  I use a unique password for slushpool.  Eleven characters.  Unlikely that it was found elsewhere on the internet.  I've scanned my desktop hard drive, and no malware was found.  (No obvious keystroke logger.  Although some malware can elude existing scanners.)  I am asking slushpool for time and date stamps of password changes, login from Budapest, and email (recovery address) changes.  I'm pretty certain that these events are all logged.  There is no reason for them to withhold this info.  There is no reason to keep me locked out of my account.  There is no reason to completely ignore me after sending a short email message that says approximately, "You were hacked.  Too bad.  Create a new account."

This is their thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.999999999. Feel free to complain about your misfortunes there although i'm pretty sure that the thread isn't moderated by any of the support staff/slush himself, so good luck getting a response there.

Slush's own bitcointalk account was compromised, however. Sort of ironic.

Personally i wouldn't think that it was an insider job at all - slushpool is one of the oldest and most trustworthy mining pool that are still around. How much bitcoin approximately was in your account? I'm sure that they wouldn't be moved by anything less than 100 BTC, because back in the days that was only 2 blocks worth of block rewards and they had a big % of all hashpower.

IP addresses aren't really useful at all. Just take this as a warning, make sure that you use a secure password and enable 2fa next time.

Not sure where to post this.  Tried to search for "Slushpool" but the built-in search is temporarily disabled.

I had a slushpool mining account.  Originally opened it several years ago at "mining.bitcoin.cz" and carried it over into "www.slushpool.com".

I have never withdrawn BtC from this account.  I have never logged in from an unsecure computer.

I went to bed late on 3-July-2017...about 11:00 PM on US PST.  This is UTC-8 time zone.  Next morning on 4-July-2017 I could not login to my account.  I contacted slushpool, using their ticket system.  The slushpool customer support tells me that my account was hacked, and that all my coins are stolen.

They told me the coins are stolen.  They gave me a wallet address for the coins, and an IP address for the login.  The IP address goes to a VPN server in Budapest, Hungary.

They will not tell me the time of the hack/transfer.  They will not tell me the exact amount of the transfer.  They told me that my BitCoin was stolen.  They will not tell me if my Zcoin was stolen.  They will not tell me the email address of the hacker (entered into my account, to prevent the "reset password" link from working).

Slushpool should have a record of the thief login (including time and date stamp) the email address change (including time and date stamp) and the password change (including time and date stamp).  They will not tell me any of this info.  Last message I got from them was over 8 hours ago.  They are not talking to me now.

Also, slushpool will not return my account to me.  I have asked them to reset my password, and send a new password to me.  They will not do so.  So the thief gets to take all of my money and keep my account also?

Is anyone else having problems with slushpool?  Is it just me, or have many small account been hacked?  Also...how was the hack done?  Slushpool is telling me nothing at all.  Does anyone have info?

Correction to my last message.  Slushpool support did tell me the time that my bitcoin was taken.  It is in an email message.

"It looks like your account has been hacked and the BTC reward balance has been sent to address: CVNNiD12NgMp8eLTQ7TJLJwST2TkswjUP at 2017-07-04 12:04:07 UTC.  I can provide your with the last IP address which was used for accessing your account: 188.227.224.110 for investigation purposes."

My support person at slushpool is "Martin".  This is all I know so far.  This email arrived over 12 hours ago, but I didn't notice the time and date stamp of the theft.  I am still getting no reply to messages.

I just reported a possible break-in at my slushpool account.  I've opened a conversation with slushpool support, using "Kayako" which seems to be the default slushpool ticketing system.

Is this the correct place to discuss this issue?  (Been a lurker here a while, on and off.  But I'm still a newbie.)  Thanks!

Hope I'm not asking this in the wrong forum.  I was playing with proxy settings on zcoin-qt version 0p8p7p8.  Apparently I really fubar-ed the settings.  zcoin-qt crashed and now will not run at all.  When I try to restart, it gives two odd error messages and shuts down.  I cannot get to the settings tab to change the bogus proxy settings.  Tried extracting the .exe only, from zip.  No joy.  Same error messages, same crash.  Do there exist configuration files somewhere, that hold proxy tab settings?  Something I can edit with a text editor?

First error message:
zcoin = Error
Incorrect or no genesis block found.  Wrong datadir for network?
[OK?]

Second error message:
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\coinhome\Zcoin\zcoin-qt.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
[OK?]

See if you can clear your settings here:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\zcoin

In the ...USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\zcoin  directory,
I find files: db.log, debug.log, peers.dat, and wallet.dat.
I find directories: blocks, chainstate, and database.

When I edit files at this level, nothing looks like config data.  db.log is empty.

When I edit files in the directories, many are binary.  Non-binary files do not look like config data either.
Quite a few zero length files, particularly files with name "LOCK".
Quite a few files with name "MANIFEST".

zcoin-qt still crashes immediately.

If I copy wallet.dat to a flash stick, and completely delete/reinstall zcoin application, will my addresses be preserved?

No coins in the wallet.dat.  So no fear of loss.

Apologies in advance for the dumb questions...

If the fork takes place...if "Bitcoin Classic" does indeed materialize...does this mean that the original blockchain and the new chain with bigger blocks will both still function at the same time?  In this case, isn't "Bitcoin Classic" just another alt coin?

Also, unless BTCC plans to start the whole mining ecology from scratch, then the new blockchain would need to work correctly and seamlessly with the existing SHA256 mining hardware out in the world...yes?

I cannot imagine BTCC being successful, if all the BTC miners and farms in the world must purchase new equipment before they can participate.  (Maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe the bigger players would be delighted?)

lets say there are 6000 users who are dedicated and enthusiastic full node users

1 thousand chose bitcoin classic 2mb
1 thousand chose bitcoin unlimited 2mb
1 thousand chose bitcoin core 2mb
1 thousand chose bitcoin core 1mb SegWit
1 thousand chose bitcoinj 2mb
1 thousand chose other implementations all with 2mb rule..

then miners will see 83% consensus for 2mb and miners will hopefully choose to start mining 2 mb blocks as the community is ready for it..
bitcoin continues and 83% are happy... but the downside is that 1mb segwit clients will throw away 2mb blocks, because even after cutting out signatures the data is still over 1mb.. making segwit left behind dropping blocks and not able to be part of the network.. as they are handshaking that they are several blocks behind everyone else and refusing to accept big blocks.. so its not really an altcoin.. is just being put into retirement with less data then the rest

now..
imagine
1 thousand chose bitcoin classic 2mb
1 thousand chose bitcoin unlimited 2mb
1 thousand chose bitcoin core 2mb
1 thousand chose bitcoin core 1mb SegWit
1 thousand chose bitcoinj 2mb
1 thousand chose other implementations all with 2mb rule..

same numbers..
but this time miners chose to do segwit blocks..
everyone is happy as all 5000 fullnodes will receive full archival data (aslong as segwit has this by default) as segwit is sending out 1mb non-witness blocks to the 1000segwits and 1.5mb archival blocks to the 5000 full nodes, which is below the 2mb limit so all implementations approve.
but like i say, only if segwit mining by default sends blocks in standard format all implementations can understand.. where truncated versions is a non-default second option(for their own kind to experiment with).

I'm a HW engineer.  So my grasp on the SW is a little infirm.  (Unfirm?)  I'll leave the SW comments to the SW weenies.

It will take mining HW slightly longer to perform an SHA256 hash on 2MBytes of data, as opposed to 1MByte.  It is unlikely to require a full 2x of time...but it's likely to be greater than 1.25x.  (This is all "back of the napkin" estimation.)  If I'm paid the same for a 2MByte block as for a 1MByte block, then I'll go for the 1MByte block because I can produce more of them in a given amount of time.  This is particularly true if my HW is older (and thus slower) since I cannot compete as well at 2MBytes.

If there is free choice, at my level, then to persuade me to crunch 2MByte blocks, there would need to be a pay increase per block.  The pay increase would need to meet or exceed the cost (to me) of the extra crunch time and extra electricity.  Otherwise...if I am still allowed to crunch 1MByte blocks...and there is no "shift differential"...then I would never crunch 2MByte blocks.

At the risk of being flamed into molecular ashes...

I think you are doing the right thing.  Good on you.  Couple of questions...

Are you planning to keep the exchange open just long enough to pay everyone back?  Or do you plan to continue the business indefinitely?  If the latter, do you plan for the exchange to stay within its existing niche?  Or for it to grow/evolve into something larger?

I do think you need to retain some seriously competent human resources to upgrade your overall security, outward-facing interface(s), internal accounting & processing, etc, etc.

I do not currently have an account with your...virtual currency entity.  VCE?  But I'm willing to open an account (and move my BtC and U$D into it) if two conditions are met.  (1) Tighten-up your security and verification.  A lot.  (2) Save all the transaction data, for clients who are paying the higher fees & commissions.  After the stolen currency/funds are paid off, offer us the occasional frequent "free trade" or "half rate commission" until the higher fees & commissions are balanced out.

It should go without saying, that any sort of professional & impersonal facade...of the nature MTGOX likes (liked?) to present to clients & customers...would need to go away forever.  If you want the community to help you through this hiccup, then it's only fair to offer some sort of reward to the folks who stick by you.

I don't know much about the personality/character of your operation.  Never had an account there.  It may be that you already have "operators standing by" who know many of your customers by name.

36  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: having problems with bitcoinpluss on: February 17, 2014, 11:04:55 AM
Earlier this month (February 2014), bitcoinplus was paying zero BtC per payout.  My display was showing payouts, but I had no BtC added to my balance.  I sent a couple of email messages, asking questions about this, but I never got a reply.

I looked again today, Feb 16, and the payout amount is 0.00000001 BtC.  This is one percent, of one-millionth of a BtC.  Divide a BtC into a million pieces, and then take one percent of one piece.  You need a hundred payouts to earn one-millionth of a BtC.

My Intel Core Duo, which was a gaming system in its day, produces about 2 payouts in 6 hours.  I would need to run the machine non-stop for about 300 hours, to get one-millionth of a BtC.  Assuming that the difficulty did not increase.  300 hours...non-stop...is a little less than two weeks, calendar time.

Where I live, the electricity to run my Core Duo machine for two weeks is worth a lot more than one-millionth of a BtC.

Hah!  It seems that both the traditional news media (aka Rupert Murdock) and the traditional Republican Party are ignoring Ron Paul whenever possible.  Unfortunately, they (the "silly old traditionals" or SOT's) do not really have their act together, and they are getting caught red-handed.

Jon Stewart, star of THE DAILY SHOW, aired a four and a half minute rant about this (Ron Paul being ignored).  It is funny as all heck.  I normally like Jon Stewart anyhow, but this bit is exceptional: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX6-cN7WEcA

On a similar note...

One of the SOT republican party offices near Cleveland, Ohio got caught dumping the results of an online poll.  Here's the link: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/content.php?920-URGENT-RIGHT-NOW-GOP-Cheats-Ron-Paul-Your-Poll-Vote-is-Urgently-Needed

A news agency is trying to duplicate the results of the poll.  So if you want to help support Ron Paul, and discredit the republican party office nearby Cleveland, Ohio, then go here: http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=4e4dbd78c83fb0e434616f97

...and vote for Ron Paul.

Hmm.  It would appear that Perry's inclusion has diluted the support for Romney and the "other candidates".  And has done little or no damage to Bachmann's support.  On the other hand, he seems to have greatly improved Ron Paul's support.  Heh.  Given that RP's supporters (us) are mostly non-mainstream voters, it's unlikely that any new republican candidate will be able to dilute RP's base.  Perhaps we should encourage even more republicans to run for president?

Side note:  RP's organization does not accept BitCoin, as far as I know.  So I donated $20.12 USD using PayPal.  This was a hardship for me.  I hate PayPal.

Ron Paul must be in his 70's by now.  Most likely, 2012 is the last time that he will be able/willing to run for President.  This is both a pro and a con, in multiple ways.  For example, he has nothing to lose by trying to enact legislation that pis**s off the other politicians.  Likewise, he has nothing to lose by enacting legislation that would oppress common citizens.  But I don't think he will.  I think his 30-year record of trying to follow the letter and meaning of the constitution will be a habit he cannot easily discard.  And his repeated mention of "competing currencies" implies that he would be quite agreeable to BitCoin as a recognized form of money.

Here is a YouTube video.  The good stuff is right around 2:05.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50kXVg3lGgc

At the least, he appears to oppose the idea of putting people in jail for trying to establish non-federal-reserve-note currencies.

Yah...  I think that I must vote for Ron Paul.  The other Republican candidates all exhibit a loose to completely disconnected grip on reality.  Obama will almost certainly be selected as the Democratic Party candidate.  And I -really- don't want four more years of that.  If Ron Paul is elected, then we can likely expect at least a four year period of non-intervention w/r to BitCoin.  Worst case, we might see four years of benign neglect...best case, we might see BitCoin recognized as legal tender.  Also, Ron Paul opposes regulating or taxing "the internet".  BitCoin and BitCoin transactions should be viewed by his administration as being a part of "the internet" and thus something to be kept unregulated and untaxed.  It would disturb me if the IRS decided that the BitCoins I'm mining are "taxable income".  So I guess I need to go out and register as a Republican, so that I can vote for Ron Paul in the primary.
