21  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The fear of our Nigerian Fed. Govt. over Crytop transactions on: May 04, 2024, 11:28:44 PM
There is an ongoing discussion on the Nigerian local board on the subject. It’s all we have been talking about today. I don’t think it’s right topic for this board. All the links cited in the OP have been extensively discussed on the local board. You should move your topic there to any of the topics below:

Opay, Palmpay, and others to close accounts wey dey do crypto transactions
A move for crypto regulations in Nigeria
Nigeria p2p Crisis The way Forward.

22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reason why you shouldn't force someone to invest in bitcoin. on: May 04, 2024, 11:08:28 PM
Force is too strong a word. You can’t force someone to invest their money in something they don’t want to. However you can convince people that x investment is profitable. Simply telling people about the benefits of bitcoin and encouraging them to invest can have its repercussions especially when dealing with friends and family. These category of people do not care to know about the risks involved in bitcoin trading and the volatility of bitcoin as an asset. Their only concern is making profits and if that doesn’t happen then they will drag you for a refund of their money. This is something you have to deal with when introducing family and friends to Bitcoin.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to get your Dad (or Mom) to buy Bitcoin? on: May 04, 2024, 03:57:47 PM

I want to avoid in any case, that sensation of being a boring crypto bro evangelist,
You already failed at that. If you cannot get us (people in a bitcoin forum) to read your topic, how can you get newbies and skeptics to listen to you. It took my time but I read the entire OP, I don’t think you should be talking  about the technical aspects of bitcoin to newbies as an introduction to Bitcoin. Neither do I think that newbies would be interested in the environmental impact of mining. When introducing Bitcoin to a beginner, stick to the simple stuff, use layman terms and do not try to impress people with your technical expertise on the subject. Most people are interested in bitcoin as an asset, you can hold their interest by talking about that.
24  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My introductory post on Bitcointalk on: April 30, 2024, 10:16:24 PM
I will be dedicating a lot of my time to reading about Bitcoin on this forum. What I learn will likely be shared in brief posts with many questions for you and everyone else to help me answer. I guess my adventure to learn about Bitcoin has just started.
I’m not a fan of introductory posts by newcomers because of the way newbies ignore the suggestions in the thread and move on to doing what they like. But you, OP have been active in your thread, newbies like you learn very fast and are very much appreciated by the community. You don’t have to make a separate thread to ask every question, you can use the forum search engine or google with bitcointalk added in your search.
25  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Betting. Why the Distinction? on: April 11, 2024, 10:23:21 PM
Whatever you choose to call it, gambling or betting, they are the same to me. Both words are interchangeable in a sentence.

Well to me i still don't see any much difference in them since both are all luck based game and when it dispute the gambling theorem them we can have them being classified separately. In sport betting after having all games selected, there odds are being multiplied by the total amount staked to give a potential winning and these depends on luck for someone to win.
Casino games and sports betting are not the same. Sports betting isn’t all luck. It takes skill and knowledge to be good at sports betting even with all that you still need a little bit of luck. Unlike slot games, there is no such thing as house advantage in sports betting. The game cannot be said to be rigged to favour the casino. The odds of you winning or losing depends on your analysis and predictions.
26  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do some people hide to gamble on: April 11, 2024, 09:46:00 PM
It might be illegal to gamble cards in the country, that could be the reason why the guys are hiding. In Nigeria, non skilled card games are considered illegal and players can be arrested.

OP I don’t think you take your safety seriously. How can you see a group of guys in hidden spot and decide to go join them? That’s the most stupid thing ever. They could be thieves or worse. There is a saying “curiosity killed the cat.” I hope your curiosity doesn’t get you into trouble one day.
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodling or selling? on: April 11, 2024, 08:52:06 PM
One thing I normally say is that if you not doing extra thing to fetch you income and you invest in bitcoin then you liable to touch your investment bitcoin but if you doing something either business or job and the weekly income or the monthly income is good then you don't have to worry about your bitcoin investment and all what you have to do is continue hodling. And for those who have started their investment from 2-3 years ago and they are still holding meaning they workers and businessmen and women so there will no obstacle that will stop them to hodle till the coming All Time High.
People sell their bitcoin hodlings for various reasons. It’s not always because they depend on their bitcoin investment and do not have a source of income to support their expenses. In a bull run, it is not unreasonable to want to sell your bitcoins and make some profit. A smart investor takes advantage of these opportunities to sell at a high price and buy later at a lower price.

Op you want people who are hodling up to $20k while you are still struggling with $2k. Lolz. What an irony.
OP said he’s hodling over $2k. I believe he doesn’t want to give us the amount of bitcoins he is hodling, whatever that amount may be is none of our business.
28  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 11, 2024, 08:38:46 PM
In general, everyone will allow the OP post to be merited but there can be situations like if any admin or mod, posts a thread he does not need merits and therefore he may restrict the post to be merited, so people and/or the merit sources do not send merits to those posts and rather give merits to ordinary people.
By ordinary people, I take it you mean members with less than 1000 merits. You really cannot help it if members with more than 1k merits are making better contributions to the forum than those with less merit ratio. The merit system was introduce to combat shit posters. Merit is not given to help members to rank up.

I agree with this topic, topics like ----> Bitcoin Pizza bake-off contest! Enter by June 1 does not deserve to have send merits option, as it has become a preferred place for merit farming, but such topics are limited and must be manually edited case-by-case by the administrator.
If we are going to follow through with this idea then wall observer board should also be restricted because accounts with low quality posts easily increase their ranks by just posting on that thread. Everyone has their opinion of threads that are being exploited for merit farming and deciding which thread to restrict may become an issue for mods.
29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You will lose more if you DCA without knowledge on: April 11, 2024, 03:23:34 AM
What I have noticed with my bitcoin holding is that, I have continued to lose more, each time i try to take advantage of the price to profits, in form of DCA approach.
You hold an unpopular opinion about DCA and I think that is because you misunderstand the concept. DCA method is not for traders, it’s more suitable for long term hodlers. The purpose of this strategy is to accumulate as much bitcoins as possible without having to break the bank. You can’t go wrong with DCA, that’s why it is highly recommended for newbies. Since you believe DCA is a terrible strategy for beginners and has cost you money, I would like to know what is your strategy? How would you suggest beginners accumulate bitcoins?
30  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: April 09, 2024, 09:11:27 PM
This Manchester City - Real Madrid game didn’t disappoint at all. The heavyweights entertained us tonight with beautiful goals and thrillers during the game. Even though Manchester City are a dominant team and are very competent, they still new champions in the tournament and will always have a difficult time facing Real Madrid, a club which has football heritage.

Ok message me
I hate to be a party pooper but both of you are newbies and cannot send pms. Why do I get the feeling that this two accounts are controlled by the same person. I may be wrong but it does look suspicious. This is not the first time I have seen scammers using this story. It’s incredible that there is anyone gullible enough to believe OP’s story.

This topic belongs to Beginners and Help.
33  Other / Meta / Re: i was just curious... on: April 09, 2024, 03:06:35 PM

I’ll tell you a bit of the truth why? What happened was I working with someone on the idea of some sort, I met someone who told, there was this one user on bitcoin talk, who gave out an idea which eventually solved a major problem and was rewarded with 100 btc and the donor was someone who was working on the project. So even I thought why not give it a try. I know you got the answer, but just I am a small time tech guy with interest in writing fiction, nothing much.
Never heard that story. It’s possible that might have happened in the past, there are still accounts with the donator badge who are still active on the forum that can verify those stories. You do know the story of how meme bees got the donator badge right, you could add that to your article. I think readers will find it interesting just like people are fascinated by the Laszlo pizza bitcoins story.
34  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How does affilate programs work in casinos? on: April 09, 2024, 02:39:37 PM
Does affiliate program refers to someone endorsing the casino?
Sincerely speaking I have seen lots of these social media influencers doing affiliate marketing whereby they post their ref code or link together in their post, this doesn't mean that they are solely reliable for those who are signing up for the website. There is different between a representative and affiliate marketer, this person gets his code or link share but due to how they are influencial people would go signed up and start making use of the website this doesn't mean that if anyone Lose their money the influencer will be hold responsible.

I can also reference other case that relates with Elon musk tweeting about some memecoin, he doesn't directly asked you to go put your live saving in those projects, hence if the coin dump you won't hold him responsible for the lost but he tweeted about the coin that's was why many people who bought dogecoin when tweeted lose lot of money with the mindset that the coin would eventually gets to 1$ but it fails and lot of people lost money.
Elon Musk tweeting about doge coin cannot be used as a reference here. He has no legal bindings with the project. We all know why he was doing that, it seemed he had a huge amount of doge and wanted to cause FUD that will increase the price so he can sell.

An example which is relatable is this; You wear a signature for a casino, you promote their services and new users get to know about the platform through your advertisements. Don’t you think you have a moral obligation to use your signature space wisely and promote projects which you believe are legitimate and align with your values?
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Readability but inability to put in practice becomes investors challenges on: April 09, 2024, 10:41:16 AM
OP what you don't know is that some people have been on this forum for a very long time already, they can create content and create good discussions and contributions but they are not Bitcoin investors.
I find this hard to believe especially if they are active in Bitcoin discussion and wear a signature. For some people, weekly bitcoin payments from signature campaigns is how they accumulate their Bitcoins.

Some people feel that they are better off not investing on bitcoin and they are doing fine in other altcoins investments, being able to deliver on this forum doesn't mean they are pro when it comes to Bitcoin investments or even crypto investments in general.
Yes, you can find those persons in Altcoin discussions or bounty threads. They believe that they have missed the opportunity to make profits from bitcoin so they concentrate on finding altcoins that can do x50 in a few months.

Your observation is based on Bias, some are on here and they don't even engage in discussions at all, they come on here to do the reading and learn from just the reading part only.
There is no need to open an account if all you want is to read without contributing, you can do that as a guest. The forum is a good place to learn about Bitcoin because here you can ask questions and communicate with people who are more experienced in the cryptocurrency world.
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful about some messages to your DM on: April 09, 2024, 09:50:51 AM
I don’t see anything here that indicates that this person was trying to pull a scam. There was no phishing link neither did he try to take the conversation to a different platform like telegram or ig. The date of the message was April 1 and it seems he didn’t understand the new merit system was an April fools joke by Theymos.  I don’t think he meant anything malicious or tried to scam you, regardless of his true intentions, he’s learned the hard way the risk of sending unsolicited messages to members you don’t usually interact with on the forum.
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My experience on: April 07, 2024, 08:38:00 PM
She also asked if I felt pressured to do this and showed me her wallet on her phone. She suggested that I use coinbase wallet.  Which wallet may I use, please? I want to know from the forum.
It’s funny that the cashier suggested that you use a centralized wallet. She obviously doesn’t know any better, good thing you’re a member of this forum and can verify information about bitcoin here. Coinbase, Binance are centralized platforms you can use to trade crypto, they are not to be used as a means of storage for your coins.
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tips for Bitcointalk Newcomers on: April 07, 2024, 07:49:50 PM
With all due respect, I believe that rankings do not always reflect the depth of our knowledge and ideas. That's why I felt compelled to share my insights, even after being away for years. However, I respect that everyone has their own thoughts and perspectives.
Usually when someone begins a sentence with with all due respect, there is often an undertone of sarcasm in there. I have to agree with Coyster, you shouldn’t be teaching other newbies how to earn merit if all you have is just one merit after being on the forum for this long. If you really want to help, you should lead by example. Use your own strategy to get merits and see if newbies wouldn’t take heed to your suggestion.
39  Other / Meta / Re: Can a moderator be wrong? on: April 01, 2024, 10:53:01 PM
Like other members suggested, you can dm the moderator of that board for the reason why the post was moved. Moderators can be wrong too but in this case I have to support the mods. Just because a topic has the word “gambling” in it doesn’t make it a gambling discussion. The topic could easily pass as off-topic discussion. No matter how you feel about it, don’t move the thread back to the board it was removed from. You could get banned for that.
40  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: Worldcup qualifiers - CAF. on: March 27, 2024, 11:38:58 PM

I will first have to ask if the Nigerian match against Mali last night was a friendly match or a qualifier. I didn't view the match but I read the commentary and went through the statistics. Something was so strange. Although Nigeria lost but the Nigerian players have individual good rating more than the Mali players. This gave me the impression that Nigeria dominated the match.

It was a friendly game. Yes we dominated the game but we were not clinical to covert the chances we had. One of the goals conceded was as a result of an silly error by the defense, which is ironic because in the African Cup of Nations tournament, the Super Eagles defense was very tight.

But if I am NFF (employer), the coach that took the team to the finals of the AFCON did well and should be retained. I don't know for others shaa.
Nigerians did not take too well to Peseiro’s style of football. We wanted goals and tricks and Peseiro was more of a strategic manager. He understood that the team had a better chance of winning the tournament if they played defensively and that was his strategy that got us to the finals. His contract has ended, there is no need to cry over spoilt milk. We need a new manager.
