So I've just learned about this vulnerability but I access BTCJam through Google authentication and I do have 2FA setup for my Google authentication account. That means that I don't need to set up 2FA for BTCJam since it's using Google's anyway right?

I am not sure what vulnerability you are referring to, there is none that I am currently aware of.
However, we do strongly recommend setting up 2FA for any bitcoin related accounts, including BTCJam. It makes exponentially harder to get hacked, since the hacker would need to have both your account password AND physical access to your phone in order to access your account, which is very unlikely.

We had a security vulnerability through our email provider that temporarily allowed someone make changes to a few user accounts that didn't have 2FA enabled. This issue was rapidly fixed, no customer funds were lost and there has been no vulnerability since then.

Of course we care about scammers. In fact we are taking in 100s of data points about borrowers (facebook data, linkedin, paypal, ebay, behavior on the site, income, identity, address verification) etc. to do credit scoring. Our algorithms learn over time who's a good repayer and get smarter with every loan. We have now repayment rates around 85%, so it is getting harder for scammers every day and it is absolutely possible to make positive returns.

It is important to DIVERSIFY into many different loans, because there will always be a few defaults. By diversifying into loans where the interest rate charged to the borrower covers the probability of loss, the chances of making good returns increases.

Read more here about how to diversify: http://blog.btcjam.com/post/75934926878/the-3-rules-of-peer-to-peer-lending-for-investors

Also, we are always interested in learning how to better protect people from ponzi schemes and scammers, and if you have any ideas about that please feel free to email me at flavio@btcjam.com

Hi Joe200

thanks a lot for taking the time to give your feedback and for being a valued member at BTCJam.

We know that our interface is lacking some critical functionality and we are working hard to add those in the coming weeks. In general, please add such suggestions to our uservoice
https://btcjam.uservoice.com/forums/175861-general

1. The search you suggested is a great idea. while you can filter for about half of the criteria you mentioned, I'll pass this on to the product team.

2. That self note idea is something I hadn't heard of, would need to see how big the need is amongst other users in order to prioritize this. uservoice would help!

3. Many good ideas here. For now, we do have a transactions table which you can see from right below your balance in the main dashboard, or direct link here: https://btcjam.com/transactions

For the suggested ideas you feel particularly strong about, or all of them: please add to the uservoice so we can help prioritize:
https://btcjam.uservoice.com/forums/175861-general

If you have more ideas, please let us also know at support@btcjam.com

Would love to keep the dialogue open and looking forward to having you as a customer for many years to come!

best

Hi Nelruk

BTCJam periodically updates the credit scoring algorithm as well is always monitoring behavior of users on the platform. In general, it's always a good idea to verify more documents, connect social accounts and get more references, which will tend (do not guarantee) to increase your credit score.
29  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How does BTCJam calculate interest rates? on: August 08, 2014, 06:20:19 PM
Joe200

We use the same formula to calculate the weekly or monthly payments as they use in the mortgage industry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortgage_calculator

In short, the borrower is paying 7% each week on the currently outstanding sum + some_principal, such that the principal+interest give an equal amount in 5 payments each. the total ROI for this listing is correctly calculated to 21.95%, as you point out. You can't do 5*7% since the 7% only always applies to the currently outstanding balance, which diminishes over time.

Hope this makes sense?

Hi bitcointalk.

Do you have a high quality website with lots of bitcoin users visiting your site?

I am interested in purchasing traffic on a cpc basis from legitimate, high quality publishers that have traffic in the bitcoin space for https://btcjam.com, the first truly global p2p lending website using bitcoin.

I am not interested in free bitcoin, faucet or anything else that is weird or scammy.

If you have a site and want to make some extra advertising BTC, please dm me with

1. URL
2. # uniques and impressions per month
3. geographic breakdown of traffic
4. placement opportunities on your website (location and size)
5. anything else I need to know.

best,

btcjamads
