21  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with all the old s-9s. on: September 18, 2019, 07:17:12 PM
I just ordered all the parts to do this mod and I am waiting for it to be shipped.  I just flashed the firmware.

Phil are you running it with both LPM and LPEM boxes checked, as in the original pic?  Or are you just running it with the top one checked now that you have the wedge mod in place?

There's links one page back.

Of course there is.  Embarrassed

It didn't come up in the search and obviously I did not read through this entire thread.  Thanks.  I'll just order those Cooler Masters from Amazon.  I've had good results with Cooler Master fans on some computers I've built, so I'm sure they will do nicely.

I would be very interested to see your prototype.  I'm sure you would make a thread about it if you get around to it.   Wink

I got a bunch sitting in a box if you want replacements. Though really you'd be better off with upgrades. They're a pretty standard 50mm fan. I think someone around here probably posted a listing for better ones than stock.

I tried searching the hardware forum for r808 fan and the only post that came up was your OP on the r808.  If anyone still has that listing for the upgrade, please let me know.   If not I could buy the ones you have sitting in the box, it doesn't matter too much since I plan on giving it away anyway.

If the other hashboards still function, they can be used somewhere else instead of sitting as dummies. Waste of resources.

Is there a way to run them without the controller?   If so then it would be a waste of resources but I'm not resourceful enough to know how to use them.
26  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: September 05, 2019, 07:28:01 PM
Does anyone know the specifications for the fans or the part number?   My fans died and I put an old cpu fan sitting there but it doesn't work as well and I have to reduce frequency.  I know it's not worth buying the fans just to run this thing, but I'm giving it to a teenager for a project and I at least wanted to have the fans working for him.
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with all the old s-9s. on: September 03, 2019, 10:10:17 PM
Did you consider just leaving all 3 S9 boards in place, only running the middle one but otherwise following your procedure with the delta fans, firmware and LPM?  I'm just wondering how much the wedge mod is worth doing vs just leaving the old hashboards in there to accomplish the same purpose.  I know you mentioned a 7c drop in temperature after the wedge mod, but was this from the case empty of the other two hashboards or with them in?

Nowhere on 0769.it does it show it is mining sha256, only scrypt, x11, x16r and Lyra2v2.   Since your miner only mines sha256, I would try mining on a pool that supports that algorithm.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why there is so much fuss about decentralized exchanges on: April 11, 2019, 09:56:17 PM
I want decentralized exchanges because my state has onerous regulations on crypto currencies and threatens exchanges around the globe causing them to close accounts for people in my state.  I've had at least half a dozen accounts closed for no reason other than my location.  Even a lot of decentralized ones block IPs from my state, but you can use a VPN. With no central authority to threaten and no central authority to close your account, decentralized exchanges sound good.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any chance that XRP can defeat BTC? on: April 11, 2019, 09:52:28 PM
It is not going to surpass bitcoin because it is not even a cryptocurrency, it is an unregistered security.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Burstcoin hacked on: April 11, 2019, 03:26:33 PM
Links?

I haven't heard anything from them though, probably just one guy's account being reported to be hacked (I might be wrong). That's why it's really important to post some proof or at least the source of your info.

Well hackers are always one step of the game, so if you don't know how to protect and secure your account or wallet then the blame is to those guys.

This is the account that received the stolen funds from my account.

https://explore.burst.cryptoguru.org/account/17655051186295236202

The transaction with my account was https://explore.burst.cryptoguru.org/transaction/4771786102876872045, yet if you look, many other transactions were made within minutes, all draining the account of down to the hundreds.  Notice all transactions are ending in 00, as the hacker left the tens and ones in the accounts and just round numbers.  So I assume they are all other people who got funds stolen as well as the pattern is the same as mine.
32  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is finally building a 16nm Pod Miner on: April 11, 2019, 01:09:47 AM
PCIe spec for a 6-pin specifies a 75W draw. As anyone that's run any mining gear since at least 2013 will tell you, a good PSU will give you a heck of a lot more than that. Some ASIC miners will ask for up to 300W from a single 6-pin, which is why folks started turning to high-reliable server PSUs and durable aftermarket cables.

Or did you think the S9 needed 20 jacks?

My pod's barrel connector is rated for more than 75W. The miner's internally limited to much less power than the 6-pin could provide (from a good supply).

I've run a bunch of different mining gear but only since 2014 and I learned something new today.  I'm running my S9 on an Endermax 1800 with the 6+2 PCIe, just not using the extra 2 wires.  I thought that to get 150 watts, you needed a 6+2 even if just using 6 and not the +2.  I bought extra 6+2 cords, when I might have gotten away with the 6's.  Although the wire gauge might not have been the same? However, I guess PSUs differ and of course I was assuming the spec is reality, which is not the case.  Obviously you can wire up whatever you want as well but I'm usually not hacking together PSUs like you probably do.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Burstcoin hacked on: April 11, 2019, 12:18:18 AM
Burst was hacked yesterday.

Either someone was able to mass crack passwords or has been farming passwords from online wallets.   About 60 different accounts were emptied out totaling $918.

Hacked funds went to GTMC-JFT9-YSBE-HRU2C and then were laundered through bittrex.

Any ideas on the culprit?   Is this a flaw in the coin or just someone trusting an online wallet?  I'm guessing it's an online wallet to blame.

Can't wait to do 2Tb with my 20 Newpacs and this unit about 250watts or so?

I have setup 2 200watt solar panels and 200ah battery in my shed, I will be using solar to mine Smiley

In the photos, it looks like Sidehack is running it off a 6 pin PCIe connector which would be 75 watts max.

I have 2x R808 and 2x NewPac USB, so I think I need 2 of these as well to round out my collection.
36  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: January 26, 2019, 12:36:25 AM
I'm curious why as soon as a new P2Pool advertises it goes down and/or last less than a year.
It probably isn't worth paying for the bandwidth after they get DDoS'd.

While I might not use your restart script this weekend, it would be good to have in my back pocket... So I for one would appreciate it being posted here. Thanks - G

Save this as mine.bat in the same folder as the cgminer.exe you are trying to run.   You will need to edit the part on the cgminer line with your pool and user info and also add any options you usually run, like asicboost.  Once you see that it is working, you can add a shortcut to the .bat to your startup folder.

Code:
@echo off
:start
start cmd.exe @cmd /c "cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1zsmithbYtyrcZ2jAAYwZHyAy28zv7pUY -p x"
timeout 21600
taskkill /F /IM cgminer.exe /T
timeout 2
goto start

Can I run cgminer from separate directories to get 2 sessions to restart every 6 hours or is there different code for doing this?

If you have two versions installed that you can already run from the command line separately then yes.  Just copy the line starting with 'gnome-terminal...' and paste it right after the first one, then edit the second line with your other second session command parameters.  The pkill in the script should kill all child processes with that name.
38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: December 07, 2018, 12:45:31 AM
I remember a program from back in the day when USB miners were your only option to mine Bitcoin, called "cgwatcher". The program was made solely to restart cgminer at intervals set by the user. Having said that, I would presume the culprit has something to do with cgminer.

The solution to the problem seems to be the same for everyone - either manually restart cgminer and/or run a script to do it automatically for you.

I agree that the culprit isn't the NewPacs or Sidehack, as I have running a restart script since the days of .333 G/h USB miners.  I still have my old .bat restart script for Windows archived. If anyone wants me to post it, I will.

Restarting loses only seconds, where if it goes offline you may lose minutes or hours.

Awesome! I got it to work on the first try. I did see that the first window mentions that the "-e" is depricated. Is there something else that should be used like "--" in front of the gnome-terminal?

Oh yeah they depreciated the "-e" for some reason in 18.04 LTS. I don't know why. I started getting this error message when I upgraded from 16.04. It will still work, but might not work on future versions of Ubuntu (18.04 is supported for 10 years). The current manual still shows the "-e" option but doesn't give any alternative, other than "--command=", which is also depreciated. What the error message suggests does not work and it doesn't work without the "-e".  I assume this is a bug in gnome-terminal that will be fixed or an alternative solution will be found if and when they actually remove it.

Thank you, I'm still learning my way around Linux but getting there.

I made the changes and saved to the desktop. When I double-click or right-click "Open with Run Software" it spins for a bit then nothing.

This is a fresh install so I may be missing something that it is calling for.

Open terminal and run the following command from the directory you saved your script to (moving it to the home folder first is easiest, or navigate to your desktop folder):

Code:
./mine.sh

You can also add the script to your startup applications once you've tested that it works.
