New issue cropped up on my pod - anyone have advice?

I am using the brick power supply and the connecter gets loose. Unless it sits just right the unit turns off. It happens about once or twice a week and I have to jiggle the connector to get it to work. Any way to tighten that up?

You could change that power supply out for a much better, server power supply! The terminus already has a 6-pin PCI-e connector, and using something like a HP 460 Watt or 750 Watt Server PSU with breakout board will solve your current problem, and is a much better power source in my opinion! My cousin has a terminus and was unable to make it run steadily at higher frequencies. I sent him a HP 750 Watt PSU with board, and now he can run his terminus at 300Mhz with ZERO issues!

What RockMoney says is correct, the powersupply from parrellels is a great deal, thats lower than even my costs.  But if your running on one of our 7A power bricks, they are solid. We imported them in from China specifically for GekkoScience products and they went through rigorous testing before they were approved, yes even by SideHack.

Long story short, I was asking because if it was one of ours, we have full warranties on all our products and would be happy to replace it for you at no cost.

Okay that's pretty balls. I built the darn thing and I've never got one to run 300MHz. Nice.

By the way - the barrel jack on the R808 is only rated for 5A, so a peak of 60W reliably. I'm looking at an 8A-rated part for a different project and if I like it we'll probably use that exclusively on anything needing a barrel in the future. Might be more sturdy.

Just watch out for the pi USB bandwidth. They can only support a limited number of miners running at a time, ASIC Boost will help greatly with that, but that's even a little buggy still. (you can read more about that in the newpac support fourms)

I think that's an issue I ran into earlier when I was trying to run all 4 of my pods off a pi. Never could get it working and I had to split it between 2 Pi's.

Anyone know if there is a way to figure out bandwith from both internet usage (I use a wireless connection) and USB traffic to calculate where I would get into trouble? I don't like doing it by trial and error and realizing I have to buy new equipment halfway through.

With how Bitmain distributes work to its chips, timing is very particular to keep the buffers filled and it only gets worse with higher hashrates and more devices. Different chips have different internal work buffering mechanisms, and the particulars of ASICBoost also change that dynamic, so non-AB Bitmain with multiple chips is pretty much a worst-case scenario for timing requirements. Barring unforseen disaster, I likely won't be using their chips again in the future. Leastways not anytime soon.

If you can get ASICBoost working on your NewPac setup, the timing is relaxed by about 3/4 on them. That means if you can handle two R808 on a Pi, you should be able to handle about three times the hashrate worth of NewPacs. Should be able, I haven't fully tested that exact setup yet.

Which USB connection on the R808 are you using for the communications? The mini USB is for controller communications, the 'regular' (rectangular) USB provides 5V power, no data communications.

Does anyone know the specifications for the fans or the part number?   My fans died and I put an old cpu fan sitting there but it doesn't work as well and I have to reduce frequency.  I know it's not worth buying the fans just to run this thing, but I'm giving it to a teenager for a project and I at least wanted to have the fans working for him.

I got a bunch sitting in a box if you want replacements. Though really you'd be better off with upgrades. They're a pretty standard 50mm fan. I think someone around here probably posted a listing for better ones than stock.

I tried searching the hardware forum for r808 fan and the only post that came up was your OP on the r808.  If anyone still has that listing for the upgrade, please let me know.   If not I could buy the ones you have sitting in the box, it doesn't matter too much since I plan on giving it away anyway.

It didn't come up in the search and obviously I did not read through this entire thread.  Thanks.  I'll just order those Cooler Masters from Amazon.  I've had good results with Cooler Master fans on some computers I've built, so I'm sure they will do nicely.

I thought they were 80mm fans? I put a noctua fan on the back end of the demo unit from pre release a while back. Not sure how wide the stock internal fan is though.

Were you in business when the R808 was around? I'm pretty sure I didn't send you a demo unit. Also pretty sure you're thinking of the R606 but this is the thread for last year's model.

Got my hands on a Terminus R808 v0.4.3...love vintage stuff like this, but having some issues. Getting the "no chips detected/GSE 0 failure, disabling" messages. Tried this on two different RPIs and one Windows machine with a few different hubs and known good PSUs including an HP server PSU. I am able to run Gekkoscience USB sticks on all of the machines, but not the R808.

Voltage across reset pins is 1.42V and every 2 seconds or so voltage goes to zero, then comes back to 1.42V. I think this is the reset loop described up above in this thread.

Off thentop of my head is there a flag for command line to detect the R808? Not sure just throwing it out there. Also have you tried running the new kano-cgminer (see the Gekko Ferrari thread)?
