I just wanted to post a note of endorsement and recommendation for BitMinter. DrHaribo is very helpful and BitMinter is probably the most enjoyable pool to mine with.
I didn't get paid for saying this; it's just the unvarnished truth.
i totally agree ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

i totally agree jumping to another pool is in my opinion just throwing away 10 good shift's and spending time to build good shift's at another!
While I don't promote pool jumping, this is false logic. The PPLNS charge-up/wind-down time are symmetrical. You do not lose anything by mining on a PPLNS pool for a few minutes, nor do you lose anything by leaving it after a few hours. It is unhoppable because it uses a backward-looking payment allocation, not because it penalizes you if you don't mine constantly. The expected payout per share on a PPLNS pool never changes based on timing/frequency of submissions. Every share submission has the same expected payout whether you quit mining immediately after sending it, or if it was your first submission. thx for pointing that out next time ill think before i type ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

Back to the christhegoth bet-spreading discussion...
Everyone realizes that switching over to other pools is only going to exacerbate the variance problem, right? Honestly, the pigeon superstition is dangerous enough to sink a pool, especially one that's <1% of the network. Nearly a quarter of the pool's hashrate has fallen off in the past couple of days...
You're totally right that one person spouting off random ideas of "bet spreading" and switching between pools based on recent challenges can be just enough to make less informed people jump ship. It needs to stop. At the end of the day, you're just as likely to be equally successful in any pool. The payment amounts and frequency change but you'll end up with a comparable amount at the end of the day where ever you mine. When you're choosing a pool you should be looking at the fees, available services and the ease with which you can run your gear on the pool. As far as I'm concerned, Bitminter gives me the best of all 3. i totally agree jumping to another pool is in my opinion just throwing away 10 good shift's and spending time to build good shift's at another!

Maintenance went fine. Looks like everyone is mining again. Just give the live hashrate stats a moment to catch up. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) 4-leaf clovers work ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Yes, rabbit's foot is also supposed to work. red underwear seems to work also ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

It uses Hex16A3 chips and I could do with a driver in the Bitminter client as, naturally, the set-up guide is not there anymore ( even though it's a new product ).
It's a real pain that every manufacturer is inventing their own protocols for this. I don't have time to add them all. It looks like the Rockminer R-box is a popular product, I may look into that first. You'll need to get that device running with bfgminer or cgminer. Maybe someone here has the same machine and can help? r-box support would be nice i hope you can find the time doc ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

You say: [...] i have some antminers running on bitminterclient with no problems [...]
So, if you have other miners running on bitminter, I doubt your problem is because of the pool uptime? The pool can not be "dead", if you can run other equipment on the exact same pool. that;s the weird part it only shows dead in cgminer if i try to point it at bitminter it shows waiting for work from pool for a few minutes then black's out. when i point it to btcguild there's no problem and starts mining within a few seconds edit/ up and running again found it was a classic workername typo ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)
