21  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi or Samourai ? on: August 01, 2023, 06:26:27 PM
Wasabi admitted they are doing it voluntarily and preemptively.
Why are they doing this voluntarily?
I think they received a silent post like Truecrypt did, but Truecrypt decided to stop the project instead of installing a backdoor.
I can't give any other explanation why Wasabi does something like that.

I think Lightning would also be a good alternative, if you have your channels on private.
From Layer1 to Layer2 then from Chanel-A to Chanel-B from Chanel-B to Chanel-C and from Chanel-C to Layer1.

About JoinMarket:
It is extremely time-consuming and complicated, I hope they simplify it in this bull market, it has to be more user-friendly

And Samourai should release a desktop version without needing any mobile app for it.
But well, there is Sparrow.

Thank u and best regards

Running your own coordinator is a different question to connecting to your own node. But given there are zero third party coordinators with any volume, and given both JoinMarket and Whirlpool both have good volume, then as you say - why would anyone bother?
Thank you, will definitely not use Wasabi, thought it would look different with your own node.

Isn't there a risk that Whirlpool and JoinMarket will come under the same pressure from the government as Wasabi did?

Sparrow & Samourai Whirlpool share the same coordinator right?
Does JoinMarket have its own coordinator or is it the same as Sparrow and Samourai's Whirlpool?
23  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi or Samourai ? on: August 01, 2023, 09:50:44 AM
I've spoken at length about why no one should ever use Wasabi so I won't repeat all that here. Suffice to say, they directly fund blockchain analysis, they are anti-privacy, pro-surveillance, and pro-censorship. If you want privacy, Wasabi is the last place you should look.
Would it make a difference if you connect Wasabi to your own node?
Or does the violation of privacy still exist?

Are there other cross chain swaps like THORChain that have proven to be good?
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi or Samourai ? on: July 23, 2023, 10:28:10 PM
If your ETH was all purchased peer to peer and not linked to your KYC, then swapping it on a centralized exchange puts you back to square one. You can still do this and then mix it as above, or you can trade it peer to peer and just be patient while you wait on enough liquidity to swap it all.
Is there anything against Decentralized Cross Chain Swap or Bridge?
Or can I use something like THORChain?
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: ERC20 to Bitcoin without KYC ? on: July 22, 2023, 10:30:48 PM
Converting them in small batches like 10K to 20K per day would take months to convert 1000ETH to BTC so the viable option to to pick the centralized exchange which obviously will have KYC but if you are from certain countries then you don't have to pay taxes for the crypto to crypto transactions because government consider it as assets so only time is we have to pay taxes at the time when we convert them into fiat.
Do you think I should really prefer this option?
What if the exchanger gets hacked and my data gets to hackers, I think I'd be great food for them and I'd probably get visitors very quickly.

What exactly do you think speaks against Cross Chain Swap or ETH-BTC Bridge?
27  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi or Samourai ? on: July 22, 2023, 10:27:42 PM
What are you trying to achieve? Do have KYCed bitcoin which would want to unlink from your real identity? Are you trying to mix some other altcoin?
No, I don't have any KYC Bitcoins, I have accumulated Ethereum for years and now I want to keep my assets safe with Bitcoin.

The problem is, there is a lot over the last few years and Bisq / Hodl Hodl  liquidity is to low and CoinJoin / Whirlpool / just takes too long.

So what would be better?
Send everything to Binance switch it to BTC and then CoinJoin even if it takes a long time...

Or better decentralized cross chain swap / bridge
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: ERC20 to Bitcoin without KYC ? on: July 21, 2023, 02:29:39 PM
Let's say I'm an Ethereum whale with x million assets in Ethereum.

Is there a way to convert my Ethereum or USDT / USDC to Bitcoin without KYC?
Why not send your Ethereum or other Erc20 token to mexc exchange and then trade there to btc easily amd then Withdraw. You can deposit, trade and Withdraw without kyc. You can also use Safepal wallet to do this task without doing lengthy process to send token to Mexc, convert it to btc and then Withdraw. you can do in Safepal wallet just by clicking on swap and connect your wallet with mexc and Eth or other any token will be converted to btc without KYC. Third way to buy Wbtc and then convert it to btc using bridge but fee is high in this case so I will recommend second one.

So it can be done without KYC via Safepal's own swap?
Which exchanger do they use for the swap?
I know that Trezor uses ChangeNow and sometimes they ask for KYC.

Which bridges are safe to switch wBTC to BTC?

There are two main much better coinjoin implementations you can use, either Whirlpool or JoinMarket. Whirlpool is accessible via Samourai and Sparrow wallets, and JoinMarket from their own software here: https://github.com/JoinMarket-Org/joinmarket-clientserver

How do the big whales do it?
I don't think they mix their millions with CoinJoin.
Some do. There is currently 8,300 BTC of UTXOs on Whirlpool. Lots more use centralized mixers instead.
Do you think it would be better if I swap my ETH to btc via Cross Chain Swap?

Or switch ETH to BTC on Central Exchange and then CoinJoin/Whirlpool?

Maybe try https://app.pando.im with MetaMask?

AFAIK, the only truly decentralized cross-chain exchange out there is Thorchain (100M TVL)[1]. The rates/fees are a bit high though, but if you don't mind that, it's probably the best option out there.

[1] https://thorchain.org/swap
Where can you find such sites?
I've been looking for something like this on google for days with no success

Use any DEX listed on Bestchange or kycnot.me to exchange your altcoins for Bitcoin, but do it in small batches or you will almost certainly lose the whole thing.
How can I rule out that the pages are really safe?

Not sure why you're started to be an Ethereum whale when the token is centralized and AFAIK there's no ERC20 wallet support run over Tor browser, so when you're use less privacy browser, you're not actually anonymous.

As you have mentioned before your choice is using low liquidity exchange (DEX) but the fee is quite friendly if someone willing to trade 1:1 or just choose instant exchange where you will pay high fee.
At dydx you can only trade with ERC20 ( USDC )
I use my own node, unfortunately Tor is not possible with ETH that's true, but I use 2 VPN connected in a row (so I'm already anonymous with ETH)

do you have some examples for DEX and instant exchanges?

After the issue with Ledger, people also stopped trusting hardware wallets and switched to using Trezor as an alternative.
Given that Trezor now support blockchain analysis by their partnership with Wasabi, they are a very poor choice of hardware wallet. Add in their support of AOPP last year, and they have a very anti-privacy ethos, which is not what you want from a hardware wallet manufacturer.

Coldcard is open source again, the binary data matched.
No, it is source verifiable, not open source. There is a difference, as explained by the link I provided.

How i can find the right HWW ?
i though walletscrutiny.com/ would list only good HWW.

Bisq or HodlHodl are attractive, but the liquidity there is too low for me.

To be honest, central swaps like SimpleSwaps are too risky for me, the past has shown where this can lead.

My idea would be to use wallets like Exodus / Incognito / Ledger / Trezor and convert the Ethereum into Bitcoin in smaller 10 - 20k steps.
Then whirlpool everything and put it on my cold wallet.

Do you maybe have better suggestions for me?
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Bitcoin Wallets ? on: July 21, 2023, 10:08:08 AM
And why Passport and not Coldcard ?
Coldcard is no longer open source - https://nitter.net/sethforprivacy/status/1651039483419058177#m

Coinomi is probably my favorite.
Closed source, and were discovered to be sending seed phrases in plain text across the internet. Not a good choice I'm afraid.

Metamask does not support native Bitcoin.
Not to mention that its a freaking browser extension! I have absolutely no idea why it is so popular; I can't think of a less secure way to store your coins than in a browser extension of all places.

What are some centralized mixers ?
when it comes to mixers, i'm worried that they might eventually make an exit scam....
It's so annoying that there are no DEX swaps for Bitcoin like uniswap or pancakeswap....
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi or Samourai ? on: July 21, 2023, 08:16:52 AM
I have used wasabi but not with samourai. But then, there's this thread about Wasabi that you might want to see.

--> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5457560.0 "Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org"

It is an interesting topic since it's one of your choice and you may want to proceed with it. But take a good read about it first and maybe that will change your picking decision and you may go with samourai or any other that's being suggested above.
Wasabi wallet is like Brave browser and Ledger wallet.

Wasabi wallet
The best privacy online is one of many phrases about privacy at the landing page of Brave.com.

They break their own words by KYC if users want to claim BRAVE token rewards.
What is "KYC" and how does it fit into Brave Rewards?

Ledger wallet

Ledger wallet claims to provide wallets for self-custodians. Recently they provided Ledger Recover which will provide a custodian service for your wallet backup and recovery. They claim that it is safe but do you trust them because they should not provide that service to their customers. Using the service, their customers are no longer non-custodians.

Each encrypted fragment is useless on its own. When you request access to your wallet, two of the three encrypted fragments will be sent back to your Ledger device, reassembling them to build your private key.

....

Between Wasabi wallet and Samourai wallet, I choose Samourai wallet.
One thing i have learned so far from this thread is Wasabi is not a good option just because of the interference of Centralized authorities with it. And their is no such thing with Samourai? Right? Because i am also new and this thread seems interesting. So i thought i should give them a try. From now on i will try not to use Wasabi but amid of centralization is there any other flaws in Wasabi.

Like, i assume the security level (encryption level in technicality) might be same of both wallets so only difference is of centralization? is that true.

i haven't used any of them till yet but i am also struggling to find one. First i thoguht of Electrum but to use that we need up to date information about it like when to update and from where to update. The last update phishing link scam has still scared me. So, now, i came to know about Samourai, Blue wallet, Math wallet. What are your guys view. i know i should make another thread on it but i think my question is related to OP's thread.
I would prefer Samourai, they have many great products in their bucket and the one you are in need is their Whirlpool project. https://samouraiwallet.com/whirlpool
You can also use coin mixers which are available in the market nowadays. Samourai also have a wallet which keeps your transaction private and safe, as they say it on their website too.
How do the big whales do it?
I don't think they mix their millions with CoinJoin.
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wasabi or Samourai ? on: July 20, 2023, 11:09:58 PM
If you do not want chainanalysis and the United States government to be spying on your bitcoin transaction, it is better you use the Whirlpool on Samurai which I think is what you are asking for.

Which one would you recommend more?

I think the both are convenient to use but for  more secured transaction, you can go for samurai if you think your transactions are not secured. If you feel a mixer could help then yomix could be of great help.
I think censorship of transactions done by wasabi has actually made people to avoid it. Before the censorship the answer would have been it but right now people are turning towards Whirlpool which is what Samourai uses. So for clear privacy sake stay away from wasabi. Another suggestion would be Sparrow which uses Whirlpool too.

Go through this thread to read what prominent members of the forum think of them

In short Electrum, Metamask, Blue Wallet are the most secured and they are top in my list.
Safety and security is another topic entirely. Online wallets are not safe as offline wallets like wallet on airgapped device and hardware wallet. Multisig too are safer on Electrum and Sparrow. 2FA wallet on Electrum is also safer if the authentication app is on another device.

BlueWallet also for MacOS or better Sparrow?
Yes, it supports MacOS. Sparrow is better in my opinion, but only on desktop devices.

But Metamask is not a Bitcoin Wallet
It supports bitcoin.

Can u explain why you would use Sparrow on MacOS instead of Bluewallet ?
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Bitcoin Wallets ? on: July 20, 2023, 07:32:36 PM
Full client: Bitcoin Core
Hardware wallet: Passport
Desktop: Electrum and Sparrow
Mobile: Electrum and Bluewallet
On airgapped device: Electrum
BlueWallet also for MacOS or better Sparrow?
And why Passport and not Coldcard ?

Good evening,
Which hot wallets are top in your opinion?
This post perfectly suits in the Beginners & Help board.
In short Electrum, Metamask, Blue Wallet are the most secured and they are top in my list. Though I have more wallets to add but I am sure they are sufficient. From them the most favorite one is Electrum. These hot wallets are open source based and obviously non custodial crypto wallet.
You should learn about open source and close source crypto wallets and have knowledge about non custodial and custodial crypto wallets to choose your own favorite hot wallets. Then you will easily realize which wallet is providing you the best security.
But Metamask is not a Bitcoin Wallet
And is Safe.Global not safer than Metamask ? they have MultiSig
