Bitcoin does have some stable backings. Most of the merchants only accept Bitcoins but not alt coins. Alt coin's price are too unstable, they can crash any moment. I believe most people understand Bitcoin better than any other alt coin.
I think that understanding can change pretty quick, though. Just takes a few implementations and people will accommodate something new.. and of course since most people don't and will never have much idea about how digital currencies actually work, it shouldn't really matter. But really, in all likelihood something will get more momentum in the next few years, very possibly sth which doesn't exist as yet but which uses existing tech. I guess cryptonote coins why not, but scrypt could still get a look-in, nothing wrong with a spot of doge in my book (still).

Agreed HitBTC is getting pretty silly. I was considering sending some BTC there until they started the childish campaigns and overusing Luke. To the moon campaign? Seriously? Are they a professional exchange or some kind of joke. Do they really need to be in the thread title?
I agree. Not very professional for an exchange to advertise a Pump campaign. Makes the coin look like just another pump and dump which after yesterdays trading some would say it already is. Don't think they would call their campaign 'fearless pump' if there would be a dump planned. Quite retarded to unveil your plans to scam people in front of the very same people you're going to scam.

Hello! Thank you for taking part in our usability improvement program! We really appreciate your help! Our dev team is working hard, trying to implement new usability improvements! Now we have 57 suggestions from 16 different people as well. Not all will be chosen but each one of your suggestions will be considered. Send your suggestions to PR@Hitbtc.com, help us to become the ideal exchange for everyone and collect your 50 XMR.Cool, guys, hope I will find a way to help you improve too. But a small note for you: there are no information about XMR on the main page. How can I know about XMR? This is the main usability suggestion, I think. That's why I registered only on Poloniex.
Actually I just thought of the same thing. Everyone who's present here knows that Monero is already there, but imagine anyone in search of an exchange to trade Monero on stumbling upon Hitbtc. If they don't see any info about it, they will just keep on searching for another place.

Hey everyone! We seem to get much more deals in Monero recently, and a lot of that must’ve come from you. We wanted to thank you for placing your invaluable trust in our exchange and for the volume you’ve creating. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved, as the resulting liquidity helps both us and the traders to keep carrying on. We hope it will all go uphill from here! With sincere gratitude, the Hitbtc team. Congrats to you, guys! I'm glad that you're doing well.

Of course it was the government. Do you expect someone intelligent enough to pilot an airliner and hit a small target with it to buy into tales about 72 huories waiting for them in heaven?

Once I saw that you can buy woolly mammoth tooth with Bitcoin, not sure if you can have that luxery with fiat

This is a great step to worldwide Bitcoin acceptance! The more people know about Bitcoin - the better!

I don't quite get why there's a such a huge argument still going on between these coins, or why one has to be the 'chosen' one... i get there are grievances about the original forking by the monero devs but that aside, each is still powering on by its own merits right? whatever happens, happens - why can't people put their energies into things other than arguments? Not that there's anything wrong with healthy competition, so the OP still stands in my opinion, but it seems everything gets too serious for the wrong reasons... i guess this has been said a thousand times before.

I skip the "bits" and go BTC, mbtc (millibitcoin) and satoshi.
This is definitely easier to deal with for sure. jesus how will regular people ever get a handle on 8 decimal places, thats what I wanna know!

Getting those in the third world locations would make conversion easy for locals and turn the remittance market on its ear. The next logical step would be to recruit merchants in those companies so locals can keep their money in bit coin and divest from fiat altogether.
Only thing with these things is that currently, the fees to use them can reach eyewatering levels. I remember reading about the UK machines for example which levied a charge of around 7.5% per withdrawal, which somewhat negates the advantages with remittances (although by no means completely, let's be clear).. I hope that as more and more appear, the fees will become more reasonable. Are there cheaper atms out there actually?

what country is that in ? and is ANX a financial type of organisation, like a smaller bank or just some random company that has started providing the cards ?
It's a bitcoin exchange by the looks of things. I thought it was a credit card company at first but think I was getting it mixed up with something. Yeah exchange based in Hong Kong..

Yeah, I'm eyeing this to see what the grim smallprint's gonna be saying.. though if the terms are reasonable this would be a winner, basically holiday cash without bank fees or the commission charged by prepaid debit card companies, can't think of anything better!

What amazes me slightly is the number of devs and the amount of time they put into all these coins - and it's not like the rate of new coins is tailing off, they're coming thick and fast the whole time. Seems a very inefficient way of making a few bitcoins, if that's what the objective of the majority of these impromptu coins are about. And who keeps falling for it?

Thanks a lot, its very important for newbies to know all this information.
As a newbie, I concur! I think more up-front faq info for cryptonote coins in general would be very beneficial, keep up the good work.

The issue with BTC is too much hype buying and not enough legit new people coming in. Probably the best news we've heard is 4000 Bitcoin ATMs in Ukraine but Ukrainians aren't yet lining up to buy BTC but could in a worsen currency crisis.
I thought it was rather 4000 outlets of exchange rather than 4000 machines.. am i wrong!? either way, it's insane, and I'm looking forward to some form of international 'case study' becoming a success story with no sting in the tail. I hope ukraine turns out to be that, but argentina could also prove very complimentary for bitcoin this year.

nothing of worth. But if you sell them now you will bite your ass later. I guess you will get 10 times more by the next months while bitcoin is rising. Later they are going down again. use the hype to sell off.
You might find this interesting: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=685884.0Seems to be some sentiment of things livening up rather than dying out..

What a shame, the idea of a wallet megatron did somehow seem too good to be true though.. I hope for some kinda resurrection in future!
