Wow. Noise can be mitigated by buying an expensive ($5K) cabinet, but heat? people just look at the production numbers and don't think about heat, which is a MAJOR issue (for home).
The Guy that builds these open racks for GPU mining also has a sound reduction cabinet for rackmountable gear for under $1K, and it works quite well. THERE is no cheap hosting in London, UK electricity rates are too high. Get spondoolies to send the units directly to a hosting facility of your choosing, that way you will not have to worry about VAT (and additional shipping costs). Look for the hw hosting comparison thread in the service discussion subcategory of the marketplace. Ok I will get them sent to a different hosting facility. Which country do you recommend for cheapest electricity and better service. Can I change the delivery address after I have placed the order for the SP-30's? How will the hosting work? The company will give me VPN access?

@boscocoin
That AC is barely enough for ONE sp30.
When you say "in your room" I hope you do not mean that you will be staying in that room when the units are in there?
Evacuating 3kW of heat from a 2U case produces a significant amount of noise....
These sp30s are optimised for datacenter performance and not meant to be a home solution. They can be a home solution with proper AC / airflow engineering, but hardly in a closed room.
Apart from the fact that AC equipment is expensive, running it also adds to your electricity bill, and unless you get WA state power rates, that will mean a big increase in your hosting cost.

Ok I guess I will need to find a cheap hosting place in London. Anyone know any cheap ones in London I could go with? And the average costs per month including electricity?

The question is... Running 2-1500W power supplies at home from the wall. Is that even recommended? Most appliances such as dish washer/clothes washer don't even take that much power? Really? I'm from the UK so all the appliances I have support 240v. I believe the SP-30 takes 240v from the wall? Will it be hard for me even to plug two machines to my wall? Is there any other way?

In the back of my house I have a separate building which is being used as a music studio. I was planning to put the machines into a server rack and store them in that space with that air-conditioner. Are there any other ways I could keep them as a home solution? Maybe a different air-con? or server rack with cooling?

Hi All,
I will be receiving 3 X SP-30s this month. I wanted to know which pool I could mine in with this machine for the best result. I'm new to mining so I need some help with this.
Eliguis is good, Slush's, btcguild... Are you hosting them by yourself? If so, did you figure out how you will evacuate 9kw equivalent of heat (30709 BTU/hr=~2.51-2.55 tons of A/C)? It is a lot for a house, not to mention apartment, unless it is in a standalone shed. Yes I will be hosting them myself. I have a portable air-conditioner in my room ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amcor-PLMB-Portable-Conditioning-conditioner/dp/B001AXJ3V8). Do you think this one is fine for me?

I'm willing to help in London with any promotional activities.
I have seen a few bitcoin ATM's in London around Shoreditch. We could approach the shops which have them installed already.
We need to make britcoin stickets which can be stuck onto these shop windows.

I should be getting my SP30's next week. I had a few questions.
I have the new macbook pro which has no ethernet port. I have bought a network switch to connect the hardware too.
My question is are there any mining softwares for MAC OSx which would support the SP30? And would it just be a one-off setup? or would the computer need to be constantly turned on.
Would I also need an ethernet to usb converter for my macbook pro?

This forum has been amazing for me. Thank you all for the support and advice.
I wanted to know if anyone here knows about the pricing for bulk quantity. What are the minimum amount for it to be considered as 'bulk'.
Also do you think Spoondooiles will work on a new machine for an October release?

I basically made payment on Friday and it probably will go through to them today. I was charged by my bank for overseas payment. I don't want to find out that spoondoolies don't have the machine. Even a refund would mean i'm loosing out on my charges. I've e-mailed sales@.. so let's see what they say.
Of course they don't have the "machine". This is a preorder for September (batch 2) if you ordered in past few days. You mean they will make the machine late august and start shipping in mid-September?

Even for technical assistance in future after receiving the machine? Is there a number we can contact spondoolies tech on? I had some trouble with my bank with overseas payment and finally got it done on Friday. But I e-mailed spondoolies and got no reply.
Friday and Saturday is week-end in Israel. Try sending another e-mail to sales@ sunday/monday arent - do 'weekend' mails get deleted somehow?? If you've transferred the money on Friday, we'll see it on Tuesday or Wednesday. You'll get a confirmation email from Katya. We're overwhelmed with emails. If you don't get a reply within 48 hours, please email sales@, support@ or info@ again. Thanks, Guy Thank you very much for the fast response. I will await an e-mail from Katya. Thanks again.

Sounds good. Are the SP30's easy to setup? Would it be a simple plug and play hardware? And how is the customer support like for assistance? - So when the item arrives in London I don't have to pay duty to DHL? - If i'm paying VAT do I pay that to DHL or my local accountant.
As someone who used to live in the UK and did the odd bit of ebay buying internationally: I dont think there's duty on UK import. You do get charged VAT by DHL. I have found some of the shipping companies charge you a fiver on top for the "service" of collecting the VAT fee off you. - In regards to hosting. Does this mean that when I purchase the item they will not send it to me.. They will run it from their own site and mine for me?
Right. I have some SP10 I bought and they are hosted I think in Israel. I think they have multiple hosting locations in different countries. I think also if you pick out your own 3rd party hosting they presumably will ship it direct to your hosting co. For US and some other places there is no import nor sales tax/VAT hit on import of computer equipment, so it can be worth it just for that if you live in europe with the dreaded VAT. Or maybe in UK you can voluntarily register for VAT, claim the VAT back, and sell the bitcoins without charging VAT (because they are now VAT exempt). You'd have to research that one a bit Adam

Thank you Collider for the fast reply. Going back to the points.. - So when the item arrives in London I don't have to pay duty to DHL? - If i'm paying VAT do I pay that to DHL or my local accountant. - In regards to hosting. Does this mean that when I purchase the item they will not send it to me.. They will run it from their own site and mine for me? Please clarify this. Thank you - If I ordered the item next week would you still ship the item to me in September? -yes if the september batch hasnīt been sold out yet - Do you accept bank wire payment from London - yes, sepa payments are available - How is the on-going support if there are any damages while shipping the item to London -90 days warranty period (also covers psu defects and other unlikely problems) I'm asking this because I had a miner shipped from China which came damaged and then could not refund the item. - Can I plug the miner into the normal UK power supply? 240v? Or will I need a step down transformer? -240V is datacenter standard and is in fact recommended for the sp30 - Does the item come with warranty? yes, see above - What is the cost of the duty when the item arrives in London? -no duty, only your local VAT - How long will it take for the SP30 to come to London? -2-3 days from time of shipment (dhl express delivery) - If there are any faults after delivered will you take the item back under your own shipping costs and repair the item and send it back all inclusive? -covered by warranty - Finally when I go into the payment section it's asking whether I want hosting too? What is this hosting for? -if you do not want or have the ability to host the unit at home, this might be a cheaper option for you
Sorry for the overload of questions. I just want to be clear before jumping into this investment.
Thanks, Charles
