21  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: only 315MHash/s with 950 core on 5870s on: August 21, 2011, 10:38:40 PM
There shouldn't be at all, but I'm not running x fire anyways... The 780i doesn't support it so I run them separately... I will try those flags, but I just can't seem to get these guys over the 350 mark
22  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: only 315MHash/s with 950 core on 5870s on: August 21, 2011, 06:43:05 PM
My card does display temps in c... And it is not downclocking because of heat... Also, I am using 11.6b... I will try trixx to get lower clocks (msi stops at 600)... What flags do you guys use for 5870s? The max I can seem to get is around 350 when I see many others getting 400+... And I'm also getting a little higher (360 or so) on my eah5850 (non-ref)... I don't see any reason for it to get higher hash with the same flags
23  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: only 315MHash/s with 950 core on 5870s on: August 21, 2011, 04:13:53 PM
i am running poclbm on 32it xp pro... i just realized that i didnt have any flags, but even with "-f 0 -v -w128" i only average 350mhash... but when i start mining it will start at 400+ per card and then lower to the 350... unfortunately temps that high are hard to avoid because the ambients recently have been 95f+... however, they are not downclocking because of heat, so idk what causes then to drop for 400 to 350 mhash

EDIT: also, what program do you use to let you get your memory down into the 300s? i have only found ones that let me get around 600
24  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / only 315MHash/s with 950 core on 5870s on: August 21, 2011, 01:41:03 AM
hey guys... i have three 5870s running at 950/900 @ stock volts, but they only get a max of 320MHash (310-315 average)... my temps are around 80-85C @ 70% fan speed... i was wondering if anybody knows why they are running at such low hash rates, because when i check the wiki it has stock clocks getting better hash rates than this... any help is welcome

thank you in advance

EDIT: these cards are non-refrence if that makes a difference with hash rate
25  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining troubles 2 BTC bounty to help me solve on: August 20, 2011, 11:57:54 PM
what is your total hash rate before you see performance decrease? if it is above like 3G or so, you may just be maxing out your proc... its unlikely, but still possible... also, i would personally keep messing with 11.6 (not b) because that is what most people get the best results with (myself included)... another thing is, how are your cards spaced? if they are all in an enclosed system, then they are probably downclocking because of heat... if you dont already have it, i would download some GPU monitoring tool (i just use MSI afterburner) and monitor your core clock rates... if some of them are fluctuating, then you know its not a software problem, and i would start pumping some more air into these guys... if they are not, there is a multitude of possibilities... also, what miner do you use? sometimes the GUI miner messes up at large hash rates... lastly... check for fluctuating hash rates from your card (jumping 20-30 hash per core)... if they are not changing, then it is most likely a software issue... if they are, then once again, it could be a multitude of issues

around 100-130 USD... i would say that 120usd would be fair even for europe prices

What are the adverse hash rates of the three cards still up for sale? And also, do u still have the original cooler for the 6950?
28  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS - Ultimate Game Cards / Aeria Points / Nexon Cash / RuneScape Premium on: August 18, 2011, 05:58:12 PM
thats almost 15$ worth of BTC for a $10 card... you would get better rates paying all the fees to convert BTC to cash Sad
29  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Asus Ares 4GB Dual Radeon HD 5870 Limited Edition Value? on: August 17, 2011, 02:56:08 PM
either that or the sellers are smart and play the market... they sit and drop prices very minimally wile people wait for a large price drop... when it doesn't come people start to accept that fact and simply buy at the inflated prices... once this starts to happen, they drastically drop prices and decrease stock for a few months and then let them naturally skyrocket... since bit mining is based off of pure cores and not how effective they are (as we all know), the 6xxx cards are going to be more effective than the 7xxx cards because new generation go for better efficiency with slightly more raw power on the high end, not brute force all the way through... the 6xxx card will jump to their premium and the 5xxx cards (because of their brute force style) will sell for even more... once this happens, sellers start to release their stock slowly (just like is happening with the 58xx cards right now)... naturally, the sellers make bank wile the buyers suffer, but that shouldn't stop miners from buying the cards (especially as BTC are more readily accepted)... if i had to guess, the price of a 5870 will jump to $300+ if they play the market well enough

this is just my take on the whole thing... any opinions on how this might work out? if you see any flaws in my analysis, please point them out as i like to know when i say something false so i can correct it the next time Smiley

umm this is all speculation right now, and you're most likely going to be wrong on the part that you said 7xxx cards will be more efficient, but less brute power than the 6xxx. the reason you see the 6xxx run faster than 5xxx cards per stream processor in games is because this generation jump does not have an architecture die shrink. both of these generations still run on 40nm die, so in order for a 6xxx card to be "better" than the 5xxx is to have more efficient stream processors, so that's why they can afford to have less of them. of course, this will hurt when they're used only for mining.

however, with the 7xxx cards, it's a complete architecture change, the die will be shrunk based on 28nm tech. with a die shrink, they will be able to fit more stream processors in the same amount of area as the current generations cards, and it will most likely also have some computing and power consumption efficiency improvements. the key here is a die shrink, so it will most likely have more stream processors than 6xxx, not less.

tbh i just went off of the last few generation jumps... i dont know much about the 7xxx series as of right now... but this makes total sense... guess the second half of what i just said is now wrong :p... i think i may go and try to fix it later, but idk Tongue... thanks for the information though Smiley

that's the "typical" expectation of a typical product line...  but look at what happened with 5xxx series vs. 6xxx  a bunch of 5xxx are worth more used than what they sold new for.

it really depends on how they price 7xxx  it may not be economical if it costs too much.  but this is all speculation and kinda pointless to talk/guess about it... we'll just have to see what happens when they are out.
I'm sure that initially a used 5xxx series card was worth less. I feel like there will be a small window where you'll be able to pick up 6xxx cards for cheap before they go to 5xxx series prices.

Hope you're right!

hey guys,

i am currently trying to set up namecoin on my mining rig to give it a try, but i cant seem to get it working... i have followed all the steps here (http://dot-bit.org/InstallAndConfigureNamecoin), but i get suck at step 6 because my program will not let me type anything in, nor will it do anything at all... i have searched online for answers, but i cant find anything... will someone please point me in the right direction?

thank you in advance

to put in simple terms... if money isnt an issue then get 7 and a good mobo and like 4 PSUs and mine away... if it is, then get some 5870s or 5850s... 6950s are also a viable option
6950's are only halfway decent if you can unlock the shaders otherwise you shouldn't buy a 6950.

whats the better option $/Hash other than 58xx series?

Evga 750i sli fits your specs. Should be cheap considering the 780i three way sli board I have runs 3 cards no problem, and has a 1x pcie slot in there.

The 780i goes for around 80.

i have a 780i as well and it runs 3x 5870s flawlessly... i have not tried my 5850 in the x1 slot as i am waiting for my extenders to get here... has anyone tried to use the x1 slot for a 4th card on the 780i?
37  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Asus Ares 4GB Dual Radeon HD 5870 Limited Edition Value? on: August 15, 2011, 10:33:37 PM
these cards are 100% rediculous in every aspect... they still even beat many of the new cards... i built a system fro a guy with 2 of these babies and it still beats every quad 580 and dual 6990 system i have ever seen... just shows why i love ASUS so much :p... they still sell from $800- $1,200 ea... i would say that it is still one of the best cards you can get (even with newer generations out)... however, with the price premium, there are much better options if money actually possess a value to you (like it does to most people :p)... i would't even bother with 5970s for mining unless you can get them from $500 or less as it is cheaper to buy 2 5870s and supporting hardware at that point (witch will actually preform slightly better)

to put in simple terms... if money isnt an issue then get 7 and a good mobo and like 4 PSUs and mine away... if it is, then get some 5870s or 5850s... 6950s are also a viable option
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 15, 2011, 09:39:40 PM
isnt bitcoin mining far more profitable than ixcoin mining as of right now? with the current exchange rate @ 1500MHash/s you make $9.02 a day from BTC mining but only $7.30 a day from ixcoin mining... IXC is also extremely unpopular compared to BTC and is not anywhere nearly as widely accepted (not that BTC is, but what does that say about IXC?)... so will someone tell me what the point is in mining IXC as of right now?

Only a select few miners actually support their entire income via btc mining.

saw a guy making like 50-100 BTC a day back when it first started :O he sold like 6k of them when they were at like $30 a piece :p... now thats some serious bank Smiley

@OP
thanks for the good laugh Smiley
