21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference 2011 NYC on: August 20, 2011, 01:33:09 PM
is anyone blogging live then?

Not that I've been able to find.  I really wanted to find some content to aggregate through the mobile app, but people seem pretty closed off. Even Bruce's responses to my requests have slowed to a standstill.

The best part of the day was Allison from bit-pay though.

That seemed like the consensus in the rather comical chat session that was going on during the video feed...

Still waiting to receive photos to post to the mobile app...  I watched what I could of the live event today, wish I was there to report on it in real time!

I've still been unable to successfully fund an account in time for a strategic buy on these dips, I think ExchB is in my future... I'm on a business trip ATM and may just have to sign up to jump on board before the party's over!
26  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTCRadio - Bitcoin Shoutcast Radio Station on: August 20, 2011, 12:26:07 AM
Hey this looks like a great service.  I run (though not very actively anymore) an online radio station (founded in 2002) called Degenernet Radio.  You can check it out at http://www.degenernet.com  We only play independent music and at one time had a talk radio show that was broadcast live from the studio I used to own (there's been talk of reviving it).  The talk format was essentially "Howard Stern, without the censorship"

In any case, the reason I was replying was to let you know that if you'd be interested, I have the rights to re-package and stream the entire catalog of music royalty free... So give it a listen and let me know if there's anything you'd be interested in playing.

Best of luck!
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GLBSE for dummies ? on: August 19, 2011, 04:32:31 AM
I felt the same way when I first went there.  I think the idea is very very exciting though.  A whole stock market thats traded in just bitcoins, where you can invest in bitcoin companies and get payed dividends from their profits.

Now instead of just trading bitcoins you can trade bitcion stocks too.  Of course the volume needs to get higher, and I really haven't seen too many companies on there that i have total faith in at the moment.

I totally agree, I think this is a fantastic idea (which is why I was going to attempt to put out some bitcoin stock for our company), but the process was sort of convoluted... And this is coming from a programmer...  I see the concept, I love the concept, I think they're headed in the right direction, I just think the process of getting listed needs to be refined a bit...

Gigantic Lebanese Blue Socialist Elephant?
Generously Large Bowl (of ice cream) Sunday Event?
Global Librarian Blind School Educator?

In all seriousness, I believe it's "Global Bitcoin Stock Exchange"  And I'll admit that I took a look, watched a few videos about generating the contract and signing it etc, but quickly realized that I was in over my head, so I backed away very slowly without letting the website know I was frightened...

Lucky Dog!  We REALLY wanted to make it out (Were it not for a conflicting business engagement I'd have been all over it), we will be there for sure next year!
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference 2011 NYC on: August 18, 2011, 05:13:05 PM
It does not seem to work for me.  opera mobile not supported and I need something else? What is the recommended browser?

I will take a look shortly, just got off a plane. Pretty or not, I'll get something functional for you by the end of the day.

All,
I'm proud to announce that the mobile conference app is now available.  You can access the app (iOS/Android Compatible) by going to: bitcon.mobi  If you are on an Apple iOS device, you can add it to the home screen and run it as a full-screen webapp.  I will update the schedule per the latest one published momentarily.  If you have pictures of the event, please e-mail them to photos@bitcon.mobi, or to the guys at OnlyOneTV and they will be added to the Pictures feed in the app. (Photos are screened before posting, so no, your porn won't make it in the app)

Current Features Include:
  - Interactive conference schedule with maps/phone integration (still in the process of updating with the latest info)
  - List of speakers (still in the process of adding the new ones)
  - Twitter Feed (Hashtag is #bitcon11)
  - Photo Feed
  - YouTube Feed
  - Location Map
  - Sponsor List

So whether or not you're going, stay up to date with the latest goings on using the bitcon.mobi app.

Unless it's really good.

When can I download this,  and what should I search for in the app store?

Due to time constraints, I don't think a native app will be approved in time for the event this year (We only conceived the idea for the app Saturday), so we are providing it in a web app format.  We will post the URL here this afternoon.

After this event, I will start a new thread to discuss possible features for a native app for next year's event, perhaps with next year's we can get live streams.

Will there be a live videostream at the conference? Or at least some recordings? Are you gonna have a twitter hashtag? I'd really like to follow the event as closely as possible, even if I can't be there in person.
I'd l like to know this too!
+1!  Smiley

We have been in discussions with Bruce and although we can't be there personally, we will be providing a mobile web app for the conference (iOS and Android compatible) that will allow those unable to attend the ability to get key info and video (not live at this point.)  For those attending it will also have the full current schedule of events that will be updated as things change. In addition, it will have a vendor directory, speaker list, and twitter feed. (I recommend we use #BitCon hashtag)

We plan on keeping the app live indefinitely after the event so those who are completely unavailable during the event can catch up on it after the fact.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice that.  We found like 30 kits, all brand new and mostly unopened.  They were down in the coal room of a building we are tearing down.  Sadly, the demolition contract had already been signed, so a salvager got them instead of me.  I've been watching eBay.

I recognized the CD logo and model # because my father has one of those kits (and some metal CD signs). Too bad you missed out though, great piece of history...

Can we get this thread back on topic?  I'm trying to get information regarding an event, not looking to read what should have been a private exchange or a new thread somewhere else.

Frankly I find the direction this topic has been taken to be very disrespectful not only to those who have been posting the off-topic messages, but to all of it's participants, readers, and the OP.

Mods, any way you can step in here?
37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conference 2011 NYC on: August 11, 2011, 08:24:23 PM
In order to keep up with demand we have upgraded the venue to the Roosevelt Hotel! You may check it out here

REALLY wish we could make it out.  We will be there next year for sure.

Manny, I e-mailed Bruce to discuss pricing of being an event sponsor since we aren't able to attend in person, still haven't heard back from him.  Please PM me or send me a note via the website to discuss.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Value Emailed to you Each Day.. on: August 08, 2011, 06:52:52 AM

Where would Bitcoin get its Value From..  https://mtgox.com  ?

Possum,
If that question was directed at me, I would do a number of things, either allow someone to chose their preferred exchange, or, monitor the trade volume of each and report the price of the exchange with the most liquidity (thus giving a price that can be assumed to be the most accurate representation of comparative value.), or alternatively, monitor the popular exchanges and report the average of the current price across all exchanges.

If you don't mind my hijacking this thread, perhaps I can open this up to anyone interested in such a service...  I'm sure there are folks out there who don't have phones capable of running the plethora of apps on the market, and also those who prefer a high level overview of the market in a single, daily, easily digestible, easily shareable format like e-mail.

Would you want notification at a set time with the current price?
Or
Would you want immediate notification based on high/low/average thresholds?

If at a set time, what would be of more value to you? The price at that instant? Or the daily average?

Would a comparison to the previous day/week/month be a valuable metric? If so, would a real curreny value or percentage change be better?
40  Other / Meta / Re: Why dont we have a security subforum? on: August 03, 2011, 09:26:30 PM
+1 for this idea...  I had some BTC with MyBitcoin for a few various projects.  Had I been able to be following a security board I may have gotten the warnings a little sooner and gotten some of it out.

I think having a subforum like this would be beneficial, however, I do think it would need close and careful moderation... The ability of a competitor to commit slander or libel against their competition would be high.
