Sapien is the best nonfiction book that comes to mind.
Dune would be my favorite work of fiction hands down.

Yes, stop saying that the altcoins came to an end, it was invented in order to take away our cheap altcoins and then send them to the moon, does no one understand? It always was. First, the coin is strongly pumped and then sold until the majority will not give up nerves

28  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why do we need politicians? on: January 16, 2018, 04:20:35 PM
i think a lot of people are missing the point. we need leaders in government, but this does not have to be an institutionalized thing. why cant we have decentralized government where anyone can choose to take lead on any issue they want and if they have support their roles as leaders become solidified.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Electroneum a SCAM??? on: January 11, 2018, 04:32:19 PM
how can you justify it as a legit crypto when its ico raised $40 mil to develop a technology that was already developed?
there is not 1 single thing ETN did that was new except ripping off opensource tech and changing its name

to me this is the definition of scam
someone made $40 mil and gave you a pile of poo

and sending out friendly emails encouraging you they are not scamming you is by no means proof of anything other than that they want you to believe they are not scamming you while ultimately delivering nothing
this is a trait 100% of scams share

the only way this is at all wrong is if ETN releases some kind of long awaited platform that actually does any of the things ETN promised it would do. and even then it would fall short cause it would be in the form of a distribution app and not a mining one which is what their claim was in the first place. so even then its a bit of truth built on a lie
sorry but i cant see how this can ever be conceived as real by someone who is not emotionally and financially invested in this .. it is such a far cry from what it was promised to be

hey at least most the ico people got their coins right?

Политики вообще не нужны, это просто театр для оболванивания людей и для сбора денег и энергии с людей.
i suppose its entertaining at the very least.
if they could devise a way where politicians only thought they have power, it would probably make a good tv show.
watch the world develop as it does, but only on tv. shit gets fucked up. people watching are amused, but more importantly: no one cares.
34  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why do we need politicians? on: December 20, 2017, 07:24:19 PM
has not past experience demonstrated that when politicians with any shred of humanity gains power they are either assassinated or blocked from having any significant impact.
the problem isnt finding the right people, its the whole population.
i want to trade all my politicians for a good software engineer that can do to politics what bitcoin does to cash
35  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why do we need politicians? on: December 20, 2017, 03:59:06 AM
i bet all of you are so traumatized by your local politicians, you cant even fathom a society functioning without them.
imagine a world that is not inherently hostile and not all progress, backwards.. a world where garbage like ajit pai and shit like this:fuckhead here thinks hes cool cause hes showing us how he doesnt give a fuck.. in a just world we wouldn't have to give a fuck about him either and he could propose terrible ideas like ending net neutrality for us to make fun of him about
36  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why do we need politicians? on: December 20, 2017, 03:40:05 AM
but why cant we replace washington dc with washintingtondc.com?
exchange politicians for online polls and voting. legislators can be anyone who cares enough to write a law, then after getting signatures or something it goes to vote and everyone gets to decide.
i think trump is a lot cooler as a gif

cool as fuck(trump)
37  Other / Politics & Society / why do we need politicians? on: December 19, 2017, 03:46:18 PM
so i've been thinking about this a lot recently, and i would like to know if anyone can come up with a reason why politicians are still necessary for good government. i've come to realize that their whole relevance comes from a time itself irrelevant to the modern world. in developed countries, the vast majority of people plugged into cell phones and internet, why do we have to be under a system thats from a time when most people were not even literate? most modern governments of wealthy developed countries were formed prior to the development of modern technology, and it had become the norm in the establishment of these countries to develop a system of political representation for citizens in the form of politicians as democratic systems emerged.

and so, functionally, politicians are meant to represent us in government, correct?

internet and cell phones let basically all people communicate instantaneously all the time, and the average amount of education a person receives today is probably not so different than the average politician received a century ago.. and even right here right now i am representing my own ideas thanks to this technology and education..
like the factory worker whose function, supplanted by technology, is quickly being made obselete by robots, so are politicians can we not use things like ssl and https to build something to replace make politicians obsolete? i dont think many will argue that they perform well in their function, and could not use an upgrade. we can replace government buildings in capitals with a secure domain for everyone to have a hand in governing, or at least the opportunity if they care enough to want it. the USA is considered a democratic republic because we have a system where a few vote for the rest, and yet its government loves to place the democratic ideal above all else. what would more democratic than having more people voting more?

we all already have a digital representaton of ourselves that exists simply in our bitcointalk forum user accounts. why not extend the arena to government as well?

what is the need for politicians?
in the USA, career politicians spend their entire lives advancing through ranks in government (and probably have better job security than you do). their only job is to keep their corporate sponsors happy so they that can continue to look good when they need to be re-elected. they might as well dress like nascar drivers with the jumpsuits with all the logos and brands on them... and its not like people are not already aware of this even. the existing political ecosystem in which political correctness is the rubric by which politicians are elected and fired, but it has very little to do with their actual function as our government.
government for and by the self-same people would take care of this need, i think.

this idea just continues to seem increasing obvious to me, but it just seems we are constantly evolving to something increasing further from this and it all just seems so counterproductive. can progress happen, or are we just entrenched into the current state of bullshit?
politicians have been ruining too many things i care about lately.. its all hidden agendas and doublespeak. its becoming increasingly necessary to be oddly reminded that its not actually their job to progressively make things worse
i cant remember the last time my government (in the USA we all hail an orange mammal whose specialty is split between being an agressive twit on twatter and an emotionally-stunted 12 year old) acted with integrity, possibly because it was before i was born.

help Sad

I cant believe how many people are saying things like "they are doing a good job" or "give them credit for a quality product" when so far all we have is a monero crypto with the name scribbled off with a sharpie and electroneum written underneath
oh wait.. we don't even have that.. all we have is a defunct blockchain gaining height while a few miners and no actual users utilize the chain of this botched crypto turned scam that keeps the coins safe by design. now if they are concerned that their shitty website is compromised, then why not keep everyones coins on the chain instead of whatever "bitcoin account" they are developing and allow users access to keys holding their coin if they by some strange incidence are a subspecies of human that actually prefer to have unfettered access to their currency.. while the people who need an app with a pretty little box saying how many coins they have directly below their username and a quick little bio of themselves that say things like "this coin is a success" can wait for that day to come.

if they are not a scam then why do they insist on acting like one

also, someone please explain where the $40 million went? there wasn't any actual crypto R&D for this coin, and their website could not have been more than $39.5 mil tops

it seems the only investment these people have actually made is in their image.. literally, all they have are pretty graphics and a sweet name

just some advice from someone who has been scammed too many times to count: for every honest person in the crypto world there are 10 dishonest ones looking to make a quick buck

Watch out!

The Electroneum evangelists will come after you and say 'but LOL they hired HackerOne and ETN is going to the moon'. I don't see why they can't see past these issues or why they are tolerating over a month of no wallet access, or appallingly low-quality video productions, or the lack of an app, or the fact it's a Monero clone.

I would also debate 'pretty graphics' - the logo is dreadful, OMG a lightning bolt in a circle, whatever next!

Let's not get started on 'mobile mining' - where the actual miners will basically run and secure the network so people who happen to own a smartphone get free coins...

Also, I'm new to crypto so forgive my ignorance. But let's assume for a moment they are scammers that wanted to run off with the money. What exactly are they to gain by dragging this out over several weeks, giving updates (albeit very shallow ones) and giving interviews on camera, let people visit their office exposing more of yourself?

Couldn't they just let the hack happen, say the project was a failure, end it and take the money?

Again, forgive me if I'm thinking to simplistically.

Their ICO funds are locked for 12 months so they have everything to gain by pulling the wool over everyones' eyes and dragging this facade out. Also Richard Ells is barely believable as a human being, let alone someone who deserves to have raised lots of funds in an ICO; if you believe that bumbling idiot should have a business that raised $40M in an ICO then you have been truly done over by the cult of Electroneum. I guess he is believable as someone with a background in marketing, that's why they got to where they are and sucked all these people in.

Thanks for the answer. So in your opinion it's a scam and you'd advise people who invested money into it (after the ICO via Cryptopia) to pull it out?

Not necessarily.. most coins get pumped on pure hype and there is no reason to think that wouldn't happen to ETN.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What causing ETH to stall as BTC amlost touched $20k? on: December 08, 2017, 08:25:14 AM
its because a couple of rich fucks decided to drop a cool billion or however much into bitcoin and the price jumped..
dont worry ETH will probably have its moment in the sun soon enough

also, i would argue that the coins that didn't tank are not fixed at a dollar price because people are only hodling them as long as it takes to make whatever bitcoin ROI they seek before they dump and move on, and not because there is any actual faith in them
indicating they are less reliable and substantive in their potential to become anything more than vehicles for pump and dumps and other get rich quick schemes
