21  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox Dwolla account frozen by DHS on: May 14, 2013, 08:10:13 PM
Got the same e-mail.  I have a transaction processing.  They had already received the money so I think it should go through.  I e-mailed them back to find out if it will or not.  It sounds like no further transactions will go through but it is not clear about the one going through being completed.
22  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How to get remaining balance from bitclockers? on: April 25, 2013, 12:59:49 AM
Got all my bitcoins out in the first couple of days.  Thought I would just abandon my namecoins but instead I got them out just a couple of days ago.  Turned out they were worth something after all.  I got 1.16 bitcoins for 179 of them.  Nice found money as far as I was concerned.  Too bad they didn't do things like Mt Red or Ozcoin.  If they had been upfront about problems we would probably have worked with them.  Not telling your customers why they can't get their bitcoins is not really a good idea.  They were my favorite pool for some time.  Too bad they end up like this.

Used to be my pool but when they stopped paying out people's bitcoins I moved.  I just got the last of my namecoins out of here a few days ago.  Was thinking I would just forget about them but then I didn't realize what they were worth.  I ended up getting 1.16 bitcoins for 179 or them.  Nice found money to me.  Can't believe anyone is still mining there but then again they used to be my favorite pool.  Mt Red and Ozcoin have shown how it should be handled when things go funny.  Let your people know and most of us will work with you.  Not telling anyone anything or lying or locking up people's coins without explanation is not how to handle it.
24  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [CLOSED] MtRed (PPS, LP+, API, 0 FEE) STRATUM on mine.mtred.com:3333 on: April 25, 2013, 12:39:53 AM
Just cashed out the last of my coin.  Thank you for making good on everything.  Good luck in the future.  Sorry to see mtred close down but at least you went out with class.  Thanks for being stand up people.

Best wishes,

25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet blockchain apparently stuck on: October 17, 2012, 03:58:21 AM
That seems like a good idea.  Thanks, BookLover.  I moved the files and then deleted them from the AppData file and restarted the program.  It is now loading the whole block chain.  Hopefully this will solve the problem.  I will know tomorrow.  I think this is going to work.  I guess when it does I can just delete those files from my Documents as I won't need them anymore once the whole blockchain downloads.  It looks like it might not take till tomorrow.  I've gone through the first 100,000 in less than ten minutes.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / wallet blockchain apparently stuck on: October 16, 2012, 08:20:36 PM
A couple days ago I noticed my wallet was not up to date and a couple of my transactions were not showing.  It seemed to be stuck at block 202762.  I have a warning at the bottom of the wallet that says, "Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct!  You may need to upgrade, or other nodes r" and it stops there.  I can't see what else it is saying.  I went to Bitcoin.org and got the latest client which is version 7.0 beta.  I downloaded it and saw it was a little different.  It was still stuck at block 202762.  I let it run for over a day and it didn't change.  It said it was 99.6% complete but never went past 202762 though it did say out of 203,000 something.  After running it over a day I went ahead and deleted my Bitcoin folder from the programs (86) file.  I then redownloaded the new client and tried starting over.  Same result.  It starts out stuck at block 202762.  The wallet shows it is "out of sync".  The little arrow in the corner is turning as it was the first time and says, "Catching up.  Downloaded 202762 of 203,593 blocks of transaction history (99.59% done).  Last recieved block was generated 5 days ago."  I am showing 17 active connections and the same Warning is displaying.  So any ideas on what could be going wrong?  I do use the Armory wallet but it depends on the Bitcoin-QT client working and being up to date.  Strangely, my Armory wallet shows, "Connected (202,789 blocks)" at the bottom of the page which is a little different than the 202,762 that Bitcoin-QT seems to be stuck at.  Anyway I am not sure what is wrong or how to fix it can anyone help?
27  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a large loan. on: September 06, 2012, 09:33:01 PM
Thanks to all of you for the comments.

DOH!- Yeah I have been looking at the list. It was showing about 30 th/s but like jwzguy says there are probably a lot more who didn't make it public.  I don't think I ever put down my two Bitforce Singles when I got them.  I was thinking maybe 5 times as many more since this is a main Bitcoin site.  jwzguy says 10x would be reasonable and I have no reason to think my guess would be better than what he is saying.  I'm kind of thinking like you that the small operations are going to pretty much die off.  That's actually one of the reasons I wanted to try for the Mini Rig 'SC'. 1 th/s is not exactly small until the network hits about 1,000 th/s.  At that point at today's price you would be making about 0.1% of the network or about 108 Bitcoins of the  108,000 or so that will be produced so that would still be $1,080.  If that was a year and a half or two years down the road that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me but at 4 or 5 months down the road it would be pretty much doom and gloom.  Anyway for me the production for a 1 th/s machine still looks good for quite a ways into the expansion.

jwzguy-Hi, I have to agree that we don't really know what the ceiling is going to be.  It is hard for me to believe we'll hit 1000 or 1500 th/s in 4 or 5 months though.  I didn't assume the present conditions.  I was actually figuring on a 200 th/s network after the reduction in block payoff when I got the 50% return figure.  I didn't think it would hit that for 8 months or so at the earliest.  From what I'm hearing I may have been slightly underestimating(maybe a little more than slightly).  Maybe I would be better off just buying Bitcoin and holding it but that would also take money I don't have.  I was thinking that with 1 th/s I would make enough during the expansion to pay it off and the investors before the network expanded so much that it wasn't profitable.  Once I got the loan paid off anything extra would put me ahead of where I am now.  I just checked at bitcoincharts.com and it has us right now at a network of 19.26 th/s.  So right now I am mining with about 0.000114 of the network.  I was mainly thinking that with a bigger chunk of the network I would do better.  I was thinking right now and for the next couple of months was still in the window of opportunity for this but all of you are saying that it is probably already gone by.  A lot to consider.

P4man-As you say why would someone lend me the money to do this if they are mining themselves?  I am not sure though, like you I see it happening a lot so I thought I would put my proposal out there.  The others probably have better credit or financial situations than I do or maybe I just have really terrible timing.  I still think I see a slim window of opportunity but all of you have got me digging a lot deeper into all of this.  Regardless of how the loan turns out, and it doesn't look good presently, at least I am learning a lot more about Bitcoin and the market dynamics which may turn out to be useful at some point.
28  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a large loan. on: September 06, 2012, 04:23:27 PM
So basically all of you are saying that there is no more money to be made at Bitcoin mining.  I have to admit that surprises me at this site.  I was thinking I had a window of opportunity of about a year and a half to two years to make money before the ASICs really geared up.  I was thinking those that got their machines in the first few months would get their money back pretty quickly and still make a nice profit before the network grew too big.  It still seems to me that the early adapters would make a good return while that build up was going on.  Though actually it is starting to appear irrelevant as I seem to have no one actually talking about a loan.  Nonetheless, you have given me a lot to think about.  Thank you for your comments.
29  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a large loan. on: September 06, 2012, 12:53:14 PM
Hi P4man.  Group apology accepted.  I see you are a hero member and pretty active on the site so you probably know more than I do about Bitcoin.  It is hard to believe that in four months or so the network will go from 15 th/s to 1500 th/s.  I'll have to look into that a lot more.  I was figuring I would have at least a year to a year and a half of decent production before I had to worry about it increasing to the point that 1 th/s produced less than a couple of grand a month.  You have given me something to look into.
30  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a large loan. on: September 06, 2012, 11:37:38 AM
Hi cedivad.  Apology accepted.  Thanks for the input you just gave.  I have considered most of those.  Here is my thinking about them.
#1-the $150 ASIC produces 3.5 gh/s which is between $42 and $43 a gh/s
      the $1300 produces 40 gh/s which is between $32 and $33 a gh/s
     the $30,000 one produces 1,000 gh/s which is $30 a gh/s
So actually it seems like you do get a little better bang for the buck as you go up  the scale.  Of course these are just projected results and the actual results may be completely different.

#2-I have to agree with you about this.  I think it is a bad idea to borrow money for any reason.  However, at present I don't see any other way around it for my situation.  I am still looking for a job and this is just one thing I am trying.  I am very conscientious about debts and don't like incurring them.  I just don't see any other way to increase my Bitcoin production enough to make a living or get a business started.

#3-On this one also I agree with you.  I have been figuring that if I ordered by the end of September that the earliest delivery could be would be the end of December and I would tend to think more probably in late Jan.  This is also a little taking them at their word that they are going to do better this time around than they did the first time with their delivery dates.  I have talked to them and they are pretty adamant that they will be better this time.  If I had enough I might build a video card mining rig for the meantime or get some more Bitforce Singles that I could trade back in when the ASICs hit.  I also already have two Bitforce Singles so I could put them up for the trade in and that might help me with skipping part of the waiting list.

#4-I think the difficulty increase will be very big.  The network is about 16 th/s now.  I think it may go to 100 th/s fairly quickly.  On top of that the drop from 50 Bitcoin to 25 Bitcoin per block should happen in December.  That will make the total Bitcoin/month go from 216,000 to 108,000.  Even at 100 th/s one Mini Rig 'SC' still makes 1 th/s.  That would be 1% of 108,000 Bitcoins.  There would be fluctuations of course but roughly you could figure to make about 1,080 Bitcoins in a month.  At present prices that would be a little more than $10,000.  I do expect prices to go up when the block award halves but it doesn't have to to make the Mini Rig 'SC' a good investment.  If it even went down to just 500 Bitcoins a month I think it would be a good investment.  Even at that production it would pay itself off in six months and six months later you would be able to pay back 50% more and still have another 50% of the original price for yourself.  Those are the figures I used to arrive at the 50% interest figure.  It is hard to imagine that 1 th/s wouldn't make more than 500 Bitcons a month anytime soon.

As I said earlier I did get two of the Bitforce Singles.  They cost me $1,240 with shipping.  I figured it would take about 7 months for them to pay themselves off when I ordered them.  Now that I have them it looks like they will payoff in about 3 to 3 1/2 months since I had figured my payoff at $5 a Bitcoin originally.  The $300 a month I am making on Bitcoins now is about the only money I have coming in.  That is the main reason I decided to see if perhaps I could obtain a loan and get more equipment.

About your PS I think I agree with you there also.  Now that I have my degree I am beginning to think that a certification like Cisco would have been a better investment than the degree.  Even more important is the experience.  That is hard to get when you can't get your first job.  It seems not many want a 58 year old recent college graduate for an entry IT position.  That being said I have greatly enjoyed going back to school and getting my computer education.  I'll soon have my Master's in Software Engineering and I will be trying to get some certs after that.  I have a new found passion in computers and computing and I found I really enjoy computer games.  If I can ever get on my feet again I would like to spend some time designing a game but I think I need to be on a little better financial footing before I spend the amount of time it will require to design a game.  In the meantime I try to fool around with the CryEngine3 Dev Package I got from Crytek.  It will take a while to master that.

So anyway thanks for talking to me.  I do see what you mean.  In my situation I just think it was worth a shot to see if I could get the extra machinery.  My experience with Butterfly Labs has been pretty positive and I have talked to them a couple of times about the new ASICS machines.  Then there is the whole idea of getting a loan.  A lot of the lenders are asking like 10% a month for really little loans and I just can't see that.  But I think I am using pretty conservative figures to justify the 50% return in a year.  I think I would do much better than that and would give a bonus to lenders if I did.  I am still out looking for a job in IT or even a carpentry job.  There isn't much construction work around here yet but it does seem like it is just starting to come back a little.  My first career was in carpentry and I am a master carpenter.  With my new degree and coming Master's I really want to find a position in my new field.  If this worked out it would give me a chance to work with computers and I would have more free time and enough money to get my web design and computer building business off the ground.

Ok hottweelz.  I just checked into Google Voice.  I got a number that will ring my home phone.  If anyone does want to talk to me all they have to do is e-mail me at hrobert511@aol.com or at rhunt@cyberminingcompany.com.  E-mail and ask and I will e-mail back a phone number if they want it.  In fact they should e-mail and talk to me if they are considering lending me some Bitcoins.  While the sites I referenced will tell a lot about me and what I am trying to do there is no substitute for actually talking to someone.  Thanks for the advice.

Chang Hum-I am trying to get a job.  The last one I had was just part time and they ran out of work the first of July.
I went back to college and spent the last couple of years getting a computer degree to try to get a job.  In this area even that is not helping.  I'll have my Master's Degree in a couple of months but that doesn't put food on the table and pay our bills.
This post is just one thing I am trying to get back on my feet.  It is not the only thing.

Hottweelz-I am about 150 miles from St. Marys, GA.  Why are you asking that?

cedivad-I am not joking or stupid.  Maybe desperate is the more appropriate word.  Then again maybe is was stupid to ask for help on this site.  No need to be offensive, I didn't mean to insult you with my request.  My apologies.

JackRabiit-If it is my grammar and punctuation you are referring to, I am sorry it didn't meet your standards.

Guys, I don't know who anon is.  He just replied to my post and wished me luck.  I haven't actually received 500 BTC from him.  The thread is about my trying to borrow enough that I can buy the machinery to mine enough Bitcoins to support myself.

I don't think that would have been my title for the first picture.

Bigmerve, it seems like a better idea to me than no source at all.
Anonx, all  the stuff going on with pirate@40 really does make me wish I had used another name when I joined but with the eyepatch, pirate and patch have been nicknames for years.  At this point I guess I am just stuck with it.  You can e-mail me at either one of the e-mails I gave about the Bitcoins.
tenakha, thank you.
foggyb, glad you liked my history
36  Economy / Lending / Looking for a large loan. on: September 04, 2012, 04:11:43 PM
Hi, I am trying to create a job for myself.  I am looking for a loan to purchase hardware to increase my Bitcoin production to where I can make a living off of it.   I am looking for a large loan but I will not pay 10% a week.  I will guarantee a 50% return in one year for loans for a minimum of 100 Bitcoins.  I am trying to borrow 3,500 Bitcoins so I can purchase a Butterfly Labs Mini Rig ‘SC”.  One of those would get me to where I could make a living for my wife and I.  First off, I want to point out that my name pirate1 refers to the fact that I wear an eyepatch.  I have no relation to the pirate who apparently has been doing a ripoff.  In fact that makes me wish I had chosen another name.  It also has nothing to do with pirating software or music or anything like that.  It only has to do with the fact I wear an eyepatch.  With the eyepatch pirate and patch have been nicknames for a while.  I have an Indiegogo campaign up that explains my whole situation and what I am trying to do.  That can be found at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/210944?a=563041.  I also have a couple of other web sites that explain who I am and what I am trying to do.  I  have set up a site called CyberMiningCompany.com to be my mining business.  Take a look at it.  I am currently mining with two XFX 6870 video cards and two Butterfly Labs Bitforce Singles.  I am getting around 2100-2200 mh/s and making about a Bitcoin a day.  That’s not enough to make a living but it’s enough that I know how the process works.  I have been checking out Bitcoins for about a year and joined this site back in January of this year.  I also have a site called HuntWebDesign.net.  If you go there you can find my resume posted on the ‘about the designer’ page.
I do not want loans with monthly or weekly payments as I really don’t have much of an income at this point and it will take a little bit to get the Mini Rig or whatever hardware I end up getting, up and running.  Until that happens I don’t want to obligate myself for payments that would be a problem.  If things work out like I think they will I will repay the loan ahead of schedule.  Also if I do as well as I am hoping to do I will be adding a bonus on top of the 50% but I do not want to guarantee more than 50% as for anything but Bitcoins that is already a ridiculously high interest rate.  I just want to create a job for myself where I can get my wife and I back on our feet.  It has been a rough few years since construction fell through the floor here in Florida and I went back to school to get my computer degree.  It’s time to get back on my feet but I need some help.  If you take a chance with me I promise to pay back the loan and the 50% within a year or less.  Or, you might like the perks on my My Indiegogo Campaign.  The top perks are custom built computers in about a year.  Anyway, check it out.
I can be contacted through rhunt@cyberminingcompany.com or hrobert511@aol.com.  I will try to keep up with any comments on this post also.  If you have any questions let me know.

37  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are USD Withdrawals From Mt Gox to Dwolla Still Taking Weeks? on: August 25, 2012, 01:02:58 PM
I got a transfer from Mt. Gox to Dwolla on Tuesday.  It had taken 6 days.  Then Dwolla said it would take 6 days to transfer to my bank but it was done by Friday morning so it only took three days for that.  All my accounts are verified accounts at both places.  So it seems it is no longer weeks but not as fast as it once was.
38  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Modem problems on: July 21, 2012, 10:27:54 AM
It still goes out, even connecting directly to the modem.  It is looking like it is not my equipment but Comcast.  The first time they came to change the wires they told me it would be a $200 charge even though I was told no charge when they set the appointment.  The third tech to come out found that my old wires were causing a lot of noise and now I am getting them all replaced with cat 6 for free on Monday the 23rd and one of the tech superintendents is looking into my problem.  Hopefully, the new wiring may solve the problem.  It seems one of the nodes between me and the central office is kicking me off.  It could be from the noise or from the spike in connections when we use the browsers and the mining all at once.  I'll know more on Monday.
39  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Modem problems on: July 15, 2012, 10:58:51 PM
superfastkyle, I tried running the miners with just one BitForce Single.  They both run substantially longer, like half an hour to forty five minutes before loosing the connection but they still loose the connection.  If I get on my computer and open up a browser while they are running we loose connection in just a couple of minutes.  Still digging into this.
40  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Modem problems on: July 15, 2012, 07:46:09 PM
Well, last night I went through a big run around with Cisco/Linksys.  I finally got Linksys to walk me through checking the modem.  They had me reconfigure the modem.  They said it was working fine.  They got me to the point that I had one computer working directly through the modem but the router would no longer work and had to be reconfigured also.  Since the router was out of warranty they wouldn't help me without pay.  I wasn't going to pay them to fix what they did so I had to look it up and do it myself.  Anyway, I got that done.  Now everything has been reconfigured and they assured me the modem was working fine.  I still have the same problem.  I don't use any other pools so I haven't tried any others or splitting the output between pools.  I used to use arsbitcoin until it shut down.  Then I went to bitclockers and they are the only two I have tried.  I may have to look into some others and see if splitting the output helps at all.  I think I can do that with either Ufasoft or cgminer and will have to look into the details of that.  I am starting to think that my best hope is when they change my wiring next Tuesday that it starts working right.  Maybe an upgrade to the next Comcast level is in order.  That would just be $10 a month for the 30mbs download and 6 mbs upload.  I am currently on the 20mbs download and 3 mbs upload level and getting about 24mbs download and 3.6 mbs upload.  At one time I downloaded Wireshark but never really learned how to use it.  Now might be a good time to check it out.  It monitors all the traffic on a network so it should be able to give me accurate figures on just how much I am putting out over the modem.  I will check into that and if Windows 7 has anything that will monitor network traffic.  If I am putting out more that 4 mbs it might explain what is happening though I haven't heard of others having the same problem so that does seem unlikely.  That gives me a few more things to try but none really sound too hopeful to me.
