21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who is mining namecoins and why? on: July 07, 2011, 06:02:29 AM
Namecoin price jumped up almost 50% a couple days ago, if you didn't notice. Since then it went back down, however.
That happend because BTC price droped and people was looking for an alternative.
22  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Capital cost. on: July 06, 2011, 01:08:58 PM
$130 for single 5770. I should get some more since i don't seek mh/j efficiency.

5770 is a horrible $/MH card since each pci-e slot comes with a cost as well, unless you are just filling up slots in your current systems then I would agree it's a decent deal. Also 5770 is actually a pretty decent MH/W card once you downclock the memory.
Yep, filling up slots on existing systems that run 24/7. And i plan putting 2x5830 or 5830 + 5770. And im not after MH/W Smiley

Yep, I can log back in, but the transaction that occurred during the 'outage' isn't showing up on my account.

Anyone else have any sort of similar issue?
Check with the block explorer your adress to see what happend.

25  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Linux vs Windows for Dedicated Mining on: July 04, 2011, 10:42:09 AM
For a dedicated mining rig, Linux is a no-brainer.  Linux is free (in speech but more applicably here also as in beer), whereas Windows is going to run you $100-200.  There are lots of arguments over which is faster, but I can pretty much guarantee you that even if Windows is somehow faster, it's not $100-200 faster.
Just to add Linux is more stable and more secure then winbox.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help on configuring ATI video card? on: July 04, 2011, 10:24:05 AM
Try this software http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl/ So far i know it works even with 6990, so you shouldn't have problems using it on ubuntu 10.10. And you can use Catalyst 11.6 and aticonfig. It allows core & memory clocking beyond BIOS limits.
27  Economy / Economics / Re: Sandboxie to the rescue? on: July 04, 2011, 09:04:22 AM
Installed the app and tried running it 3 times - each time it crashed (Win 7 64 bit)
The problem is in your TV. I myself use sandboxie on windows 7 x64 and windows xp x32 and it works like a charm.

Unless, of course, all your software except Bitcoin runs in your sandbox from the moment you installed the system. That works.
The paid version do that by default Wink
28  Economy / Economics / Re: Botnet - can we stop this madness? on: July 04, 2011, 07:41:32 AM
Here is what i think...
Quote
1. As long as botnet is running legit miner software, the blocks are just fine and will benefit the Bitcoin network as far as hashing power is expected. Running disruptive software and hurting Bitcoin network is not profitable for owner. It can only make short term lulz.
+1. Most likely they (botnet ops), will create private pools, concentrating all the mining power they have on there.
Quote
2. Most infected machines are low-end ones, with Intel crap cards and very few high-end ATI cards. Probably the most likely user getting infected is noob beginner or office computer. They predominantly are Celeron/Sempron/i3 and similar low spec machines. High-end rigs usually is controlled by smarter people, and infestation is more likely to be detected and removed.
There are lot of "noobs" out there. There are office computers too, there are older people who don't have deep understandng of computers. Even if most of the computers have low end CPU's, infecting great amount of computers will give great speed.
Quote
3. Running CPU miner can lead to detection and is unprofitable by itself. You more likely will get your botnet reduced in size because people reinstall they computers than get more profit than sending emails or DDoSing.
Not necessary. CPU mining can be done when computer is idle and noone is going to notice. For example, how often do you check what computer do when is idle? This is the smartest choice assuming great amount of PC's are not being turned of at the end of shift, etc. making detection even more difficult. There isn't even need to bother infecting cumputers. Take some fancy screensaver (most of the modern can use GPU power), include the miner in it's code, and upload it on multiple sites. Ah... too bad i'm not a programmer myself Cheesy But this is scenario that is most likely to happen.

Sorry to bring you despair but i saw transactions from my wallet for the last 3 days. I checked the addresses given and saw they withdraw ~160 BTC
So did you log in and see any problems?
Thank you for pointing it out. Actually i just checked and saw nothing wrong... I'll recheck everything again to see where i have mistaken...
I think you were thinking you were the only one using that address. The address is yours for deposits. Other people in mybitcoin use it for withdrawals. They share accounts for withdrawals.
You are right. I guess one learn till the very end. Smiley

32  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A Compromise To Avoid World War 3 on: July 03, 2011, 01:32:35 PM
That's the first thing authorities (anyone who has extreme power and chooses to use it conflicting with what others want) would do, which leads to the wars I described, and they would be forced to change their minds by the many countries who have an interest in them not being dictator through the central bank system. This may not happen until more countries notice the change happening in the global economy, but they will eventually learn of it. Since authorities would change their mind after making it illegal, on average authorities don't really want it to be illegal. This is about slavery to money, so don't think it will be ignored when there is a way to end slavery. Its less about technology and more about many countries being the slaves of a few others, and about individual slaves and bank masters. Free the slaves or fight the biggest war in all of history.
I do agree, but those who are in possession of power won't give it up that easily. The good news are we are big community and won't disappear swift, like lot if individuals endangering the interests of big corporations.
Excuse my poor English. Smiley
33  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A Compromise To Avoid World War 3 on: July 02, 2011, 10:04:02 PM
Authorities will want to work with us on this because...
Disagree, if authorities don't want it, they'll just say it's illegal because of some blah-blah. And that's not what we all need.
34  Other / Meta / Re: I can't set my avatar? on: July 02, 2011, 11:59:34 AM
Most probably the host of your avatar went offline for a while, the forum saw there isn't such adress for sertain period of time and replaced it with what it comes by default.

36  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How secure is Linuxcoin and how to your graph your data from remote view on: July 02, 2011, 07:58:20 AM
If you are worried about security, just install full ubuntu desktop, set ssh and mine with it. There is bunch of software you could use to monitor it and make charts.
37  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does anyone remember the hashing performance of the original BTC Client? on: July 01, 2011, 10:56:33 PM
UFAsoft's CPU miner used to give me 5.1 mh/s at E2140.
38  Economy / Economics / Re: Withdrawl bitcoins to paypal on: July 01, 2011, 10:10:26 PM
Why don't you just withdraw your funds on your bank account, then login paypal and add funds to your pp account?

40  Economy / Economics / Re: Botnet - can we stop this madness? on: July 01, 2011, 09:48:13 PM
It was a matter of time for a trojan like Trojan.NSIS.Miner.a to appear. I already said like 2 weeks ago this would happen...
