21  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchange best for you on: June 04, 2016, 04:33:47 PM
I still use btc-e. Old habits die hard I guess. They haven't bothered asking for identification so far which is good.

A Russian exchange based in Bulgaria, if I'm not mistaken (like exmo which is in Spain)

That's absolutely fine by me. I haven't seen any funny behavior from them in four years.
22  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where u use bitcoins? on: June 04, 2016, 04:22:33 PM
I'm running four virtual private servers at the moment and paying for all of them with bitcoin. I've also bought the odd meal, coffee etc. with bitcoin but I don't really use it offline.
What are you running on the VPS?

At cloudc.me and zare.co.uk. They're alright. Not for serious production purposes but nice and cheap  Grin

25  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you still believe in bitcoin on: June 04, 2016, 12:30:51 PM
absolutely. btc has come a long way in proving its value and reliability. to my mind, it's something like the gold standard in cryptocurrencies.
26  Other / Off-topic / Re: When and why did you start using Bitcoin? on: June 04, 2016, 12:26:15 PM
I bought my first btc back in 2012 to pay for VPN anonymously. I recall putting two crisp $20 notes in post to a Scandinavian country and receiving 8 btc in my address a few days later. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I wish I had bought more, still regretting that  Undecided
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How police think about Bitcoin enthusiasts ? on: June 03, 2016, 04:04:24 PM
If someone is trading huge amounts of Bitcoins on a daily basis that will certainly raise some red flags for the police and they will probably put the traders under surveillance so as to determine the source of the funds and if the money was obtained legally in the jurisdiction the suspects are in but I don't think this would automatically make any high-profile Bitcoin enthusiast a criminal. Actually there are special police departments that investigate cyber crime and digital heists and fraudsters so they are probably very well aware of the current criminal cases on the Bitcoin scene. The lower-level policemen wouldn't understand how Bitcoin works and they shouldn't be investigating things they don't know anything about because that is just preposterous  Wink

I agree with everything said here.

You can bet that if you are trading large amounts of BTC daily that someone knows.  If you file and pay appropriate taxes it should not be a problem and it makes your trading legitimate.
It also depends on which exchange you are using to do your trading at.

BTC-E for example doesn't force you to verify yourself in order to use their exchange.

It means that there is no personal information that the exchange has about you beside your IP address.

But then again, that exchange has been operating like it does for years. They won't work together with governments to hand them over your IP address and your trading history.

I thought btc-e required identification and proof of address for wire transfers. Are they not actively enforcing that rule?
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What wallets do you use and why? on: June 03, 2016, 01:42:52 PM
I too am using electrum but will move most of my holdings to Trezor soon. I hear they'll start supporting ETH shortly - it'd be great to secure both BTC and ETH in the same hardware wallet.

Ben de birazini ETH and The DAO'a yonlendirirdim. Akilli kontrat islerinde gelecek oldugu bence acik bir gercek. Su haliyle ETH isi kiviramayabilir (ozellikle olceklenebilirlik yonunden) ama gelismeleri daha da yakindan takip etmek acisindan oralara biraz yatirim yapmanin akillica oldugunu dusunuyorum ben.
30  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Live trading has started on xBTCe.com on: June 03, 2016, 12:11:42 PM
I don't have any idea about this trading platform thanks bringing it up, hope there's someone here who's already working with this who can guide us how the system works and how we can profit from it. will be waiting for some answer together with you mate.

Thanks, they are the same people as btc-e.com so I'm hoping someone here will have tried the demo version that came out a few months ago. It looks good to my untrained eye but I don't know enough about other margin trading platforms like poloniex, bitfinex etc. to make a meaningful comparison.
why they are not redirecting btc-e to xbtce.com i think they want to operate both platform indivisually. Any link to news about this platform by btc-e staff?

They had announced the demo version back in Dec: https://btc-e.com/news/225 and (re)tweeted about going live earlier this week: https://twitter.com/btcecom

I don't really get what they mean by "where we are going to provide our liquidity" - something might have been lost in translation. Also, they say they are not affiliated with xbtce but as Serpens66 points out, they are using the same order book. Btc-e being as mysterious as ever!

Looks like they are finally out of beta. What does the community think about this platform? Despite having a relatively shady reputation, I'm a big fan of btc-e, they've served me well over the last three years. I'm considering trying my hand in margin trading and would be interested to know what people here think of their new platform.
33  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to buy bitcoins by paypal? on: June 02, 2016, 10:44:19 AM
In my experience, it's not worth the effort. Fees are too high and sellers insist on verified accounts which take too long to sort out. I also had my paypal account limited at some point due to 'high risk activity'.
34  Other / Off-topic / Re: TV Series Recommendations... on: May 27, 2016, 02:46:59 PM
Couple of friends told me about "Peaky Blinders"

anybody watched at least an episode or 2?

yep, it's pretty good for a British series. highly polished, reminds me of Goodfellas and Boardwalk Empire at times. they've just begun the third season and it's even more atmospheric, darker if you like, than the first two - I'd highly recommend it
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin versus Ether: the people difference is everything on: May 26, 2016, 10:17:03 AM
I would have liked Craig Wright to be Satoshi, he would make a nice ambassador.

lol, no, you can't be serious, the man has the social skills of a six year old, not exactly ambassador material IMO

clamav (clamtk) in combination with lynis, rkhunter and plenty of common sense
37  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptopay Bitcoin Debit card + Giveaway on: May 25, 2016, 03:36:15 PM
I would be grateful for a promo code too if possible. I'll use the card to make as many ordinary payments as I can make, e.g. to pay for VPS, hardware and B2B services. Thanks!
38  Local / Türkçe (Turkish) / Re: hangi walleti kullanmalı ? bitcoincore , bitcoinclassic , bitcoinunlimited ? on: May 25, 2016, 01:13:07 PM
Birşey sormak istiyorum neden çoğu kişi web cüzdanı yerine bilgisayar/usb 'ye kurulan cüzdanları tercih ediyor?

gizli anahtarlarim benim kontrolumde olsun diye. IP adresini gizlemek yonunden de avantajlari var yerel blok zinciri kullanmanin. butun blok zincirini indirmek cok geliyorsa TOR uzerinde electrum calistirarak IP adresini saklamak mumkun.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum on: May 24, 2016, 02:59:38 PM
I'm no expert but I like the idea behind The DAO. ETH provides more scope for innovation than all other altcoins as far as I can se and once the current bubble bursts in a few days, I'll buy a few more to experiment with. Setting up contracts on the Mist browser looks interesting but I've failed miserably to come up with anything meaningful so far.
