21  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OPHION signature campaign halt ... on: May 20, 2016, 08:41:47 PM
So I want this thread open to talk about the developments about this campaign, and to see if we are just screwed out of a week's worth of advertising for the devs or not...

Both the coin's [ANN] thread and the campaign thread has been locked so far.

Nice that someone opened thread for this! I`m watching all day for something.

I send message to campaign manager BTCat :

Hello, you are the only one I see online from Ophion signature campaign. Can you tell me where we stand with that now?
I saw you don`t control founds but I guess you have a bit more information`s then me. I just wake up and saw ophion thread locked and campaign thread locked.. what is happening and what we can expect?

I check scam accusation section but nobody posted anything, what you think to wait a bit more or make some topic there?

Hi,
I just found out this morning that the dev will close the project. So the sig campaign is stopped now.

I have send a message to Escrow and he must decide if all participants get paid for last week. He will discuss with Hazelnutter.
When he decides payout will happen then I will make a list and all get paid for their posts until the time the thread got locked.

So I suggest to wait with anything else for decision. Either way it will not continue for 4 weeks as previously announced.

Regards,

BTCat

Now I think its not just campaign, Ophion site is down and lot of people invested in this coin.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1479267.0 like this guy and he is only one that posted something before you did.

I send message to Hazelnutter cause he was one of dev`s but until now I didnt receive anything from him.

woooahhh, so now it's the escrows "decision" if he wants to pay out people now?  That doesn't sound good...

The signature campaign funds are held by escrow and this is why escrow is recommended to be used on a new campaign.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1472638.msg14851009#msg14851009
Since the money are on escrow, escrow should pay the participants.

But what if the campaign manager just leaves too... is that now the duties of the escrow too?

If the campaign manager is unable to make the payment for the participants then it's the escrow duty to make the payment, that's why escrow is a 'backup' to cover this.

Ah, what I was trying to say was, 'what if the campaign manager just doesn't give him a payment report of who did what? Does he now have to act out the duty of campaign manager and escrow/payout guy?'

Soooo.... since the thread got locked, does this mean that the campaign is over too??  Sad

I really don't understand how 1 single troll can make you stop a project... You are going to get trolls no matter what you do on the internet, that's just usually how things go.  Care to share why everything has to be shut down?
25  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you think about this "Bitcoin-backed money" idea? on: May 19, 2016, 03:53:51 PM
This idea simply won't work because Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that can't function normally as a centralized paper-based physical money. We would need some kind of authority to issue these paper Bitcoin certificates otherwise people would go on a rampage scamming each other with empty wallets. How are we going to verify that the displayed amount of Bitcoin is actually not spent already? Plus the public Bitcoin key that is visible might not match the fake private keys that are enclosed inside. People would need to open and check the private keys upon every transaction and this will be definitely much slower than just transacting the coins digitally and be done with it.

I hate to be that guy, but you know in this case that it would be the government being that kind of authority.  There would need to be some sort global system that logs all the "physical currency" private keys and put them into a data base that allows a quick scan at the register to check and see if the note is "viable"...

This is way too much, I think, and there will have to be another way for delivering small payments for everyday transactions.

I'm confused... So when trying to purchase some OPH for a test run it brought me to the screen where they have the public address to send bitcoins and showed the QR code with it, and when I went to scan it was a completely different address... any reason as to why?
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is your favorite Bitcoin podcast? Or just tech related podcasts in general? on: May 19, 2016, 06:45:31 AM
I've been recently delving into listening to some podcasts lately and have wondered what is the general consensus on what is the best podcast to follow up on regarding on developing news in the crypto-sphere.

I would love to hear some input.

-- as of right now the only podcasts I've listened to so far that talk about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general is Bitcoin Uncensored... and to be honest, those guys get on my nerves a little bit.
28  Other / Off-topic / Re: Earning a living with bitcoin? on: May 19, 2016, 05:56:40 AM
I just really don't understand why people insinuate that there is absolutely know way to earn yourself bitcoins other than posting on signature campaigns and slaving away at your computer... there are just too many other options for that

Signature campaigns are only meant to be a convenience.  Period.  Dont waste your life and sacrifice this over your loved ones because you would essentially be selling out for probably nothing.

I mean hell, I participate in campaigns and I don't expect to make a "living" from it... I just literally only come on here if I just really don't have anything to do and want to lay back and relax for a bit.
29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are floppy disks safe to store wallets? on: May 19, 2016, 05:46:39 AM
This is hilarious. Okay first I can guess how old are you now. Second I will say, a piece of paper last for ever, even exposed to a magnet.

Not if exposed to fire though...

You just honestly have to be mindful of were you are keeping these keys stored, because if not you are bound for a very dreadful day ahead of you.  I honestly don't think of it being that bad if you had some other precious things you need to store in safe place; to put those things in a deposit box at your trusted bank and keep the cold wallet storage paper along with it.

Then in that case, all you have to do is keep the public address with you on hand so you can continually send funds to it as you please, as sort of a "savings plan".
30  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: May 19, 2016, 05:43:28 AM
(silverdoctors sells PMs, but is a handy aggregator of gold & silver news.)

It would be strange if a seller preached for lower prices. Why would anyone want to buy today if he could buy cheaper tomorrow?
that's right, waiting right time to buying gold/bitcoin/silver is good way to make profit at investment.
but where you know tomorrow the price will be fail ?

The way I see things, is that if you are going in on PM's in the first place, you are already setting yourself up for playing the "long" game.  So if that's the case, why on earth would you be concerned about worrying what tomorrow looks like in terms of pricing?

If you are dealing with things such as silver and gold then you are planning on holding for a long time, just primarily because of the fact that you can't liquidate it in an optimal fashion such as bitcoin, which can be done in seconds over exchanges.

So to worry about what price you are buying into PM's day by day is ludicrous /
31  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are floppy disks safe to store wallets? on: May 19, 2016, 05:39:24 AM
Floppy disks are widely believed to be fragile storage mediums. However the question is, if usb sticks or CDs are any better. I'm not sure at all, if you would have been able to recover data from these mediums after 15 years. However at least CDs offer protection against magnetic fields, which can be a serious problem for floppy discs.

Regardless of the electronic medium used, another problem is the future availability of devices that are compatible/can read these mediums (as you have experienced).

Long story, short recommendation: For long term storage, use paper wallets. Or even better engrave the private keys into precious metal bars... Smiley

ya.ya.yo!

Exactly... I really don't understand the point of this thread except for people trying to have a bit of nostalgia while reusing their old floppy discs...

But the point is, is that in the end, the most probable scenario is that it is going to be antiquated and the ability to use your floppy disc isn't going to be readily accessible in the future.

Plus it's really no different than using your USB device to save your wallets and stuff like that.  So in my mind, it's rather pointless.
32  Other / Meta / Re: How Does Trust Work? on: May 19, 2016, 05:30:54 AM
Essentially, it is a weird interconnected network of people trusting other people; and if you aren't in someone's "trust circle" you aren't going to be getting a good rating.

Also weird things happen in relation to people setting up their trust settings different from other people on the network.  People sometimes put their "trust level" settings on something different from the default setting, and it makes the ratings change pretty dramatically.

Honestly, I like the middle coin the best... something about the darker color appeals to me.  But regardless, I'm glad to have gotten one of your 2015 models and looking forward to whatever you put out this year.  Just need to worry about accumulating as much as I can right now so I can pay for these expenses Cheesy
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone have plan to make income on bitcoins :) on: May 19, 2016, 05:24:09 AM
I really don't understand why the large majority of people on here believe that they have to make their bitcoins/money in some scammy way on the interwebz... why don't you just set up a budget that is according to your income level and how much you want to dish out toward cryptocurrencies? I believe that is the most realistic way to ever have the potential to make a decent income in cryptocurrencies at all.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] OPHION - A Secure, Anonymous & Decentralized Market |CROWDSALE LIVE| on: May 15, 2016, 05:09:15 AM
When I buy ophion it tells me to save the transaction id. Is there a reason behind it like it's not manual and we have to contact you with that transaction id?

No reason, Its just worth logging it yourself in case you have issues and you can refer to the transaction you had issues with.

The mnemonic passphrase however is your only way back into your account should you lose your password, This is also a reason we did not allow automated password resets, We wanted this site as secure as possible.
Keep that safe.

So, in essence, you can log back in to your account with the mnemonic seed only if you needed too, but also write down your private keys and such just in case?

Also, it seems privacy is a big concern here... Can anyone run nodes to ensure decentralization? Also, what do we do with ophion coins exactly? Do we only purchase stuff on the market place with those coins, or maybe can we use that and bitcoin/other altcoins as well? I'd personally like to use monero for the extra privacy on top of TOR.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] OPHION - A Secure, Anonymous & Decentralized Market |CROWDSALE LIVE| on: May 14, 2016, 11:49:30 PM
hopeful project , I just joined the site , they have unique security system , they gives you a passphrase which can be used to restore the account ( similar to bitcoin wallet ) , investors increase daily , there are more than 44,500 OPH sold , this encourage me to invest in this amazing project , although I don't have a lot of money , but I liked this project , and sure I will buy some OPH .

Yeah I just now registered to see what it was about, and am still kind of confused about the whole thing, TBH.  Is our account on the website supposed to be our wallet?  What happens if the website goes down?  Can we access our funds if we run a node and use the pass phrase through the market place?  Sorry again for all the questions, but it still seems a little weird to me about the whole thing.
37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is the best future currency? on: May 14, 2016, 11:30:21 PM
Bitcoin has so many features. most importantly it is tax free.

Well if you are thinking in the "short term", then yeah, it will be "tax free" to some extent... but you also have to think about if it were to become the future[/i] currency which refers to long term.

Unless you are an anarchist and believe that everyone can just do whatever the fuck they want, then yeah that's ok to think about... but if you are like the rest of civilization, then you know that there is a small need for taxes to help pay for stuff in your community.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] OPHION - A Secure, Anonymous & Decentralized Market |CROWDSALE LIVE| on: May 14, 2016, 11:24:43 PM
So, I was reading through the details of the service a little bit... and from what it looks like is that it is a more "anonymous-ready" version of ETH? Does OPHION allow for other payments to be used in the market place?  I'll read through some of the white paper in a little bit, but currently busy with some side projects of mine at the moment.

From what it looks like, that is the case.  I think it's using the same blockchain platform as ETH, but also making it it TOR/I2P/etc. ready for increased privacy in the market place for both the buyer and seller.

I think it's pretty cool though they it allows you the option on being a "public" or "private" store on the market place though... pretty neat.  Smiley

Hi There,

The whitepaper could maybe do with some more updates, I should get onto that this week.

Essentially its running on the Bitcoin Blockchain using Coloured Coins. All op code data in regard to product is encrypted as much as it can be (some of it cant be due to limitations) but that is not going to effect privacy.

The TOR/I2P/Socks support is for the initial client we will release, this allows you to connect to the network via a tor or i2p node masking your IP as a hosting node. That coupled with the AES-256 encryption enables even public transactions to be near impossible to decrypt.

Public stores are exactly what they are, Private stores ask for a little more information and take an extra confirmation on the network before they are set up. It requires CA signing key and private key of cert and will then provide you with a link. You need to give the generated certificate and the private link to another member using Ophion and they will be able to see your hidden store.

With certificates this is a manual process, Ophion will not do this for you. You can either self sign (which I highly suggest as its free) or buy one (which I see no point) But tutorials will be released on how to do this and there are already many on the web now.

Hope this answers your questions, feel free to ask any more.

-Sebastian

So how about the coins details as I previously asked here: ?

I looked for a bit on the white paper and it doesn't really go into details about the coin itself?  Like how many of them will be in circulation? PoS vs. PoW? Or is it completely different?  Huh

On the website it says that after the initial crowdsale, all other coins will be "burned"... what does that exactly mean? Does it mean that if 10 people only purchased OPH during the crowdsale, then those 10 people only have coins?  Can people mine the coins? etc. ?
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin without Altcoin ? on: May 14, 2016, 11:20:07 PM
Some people are exaggerate the influence of altcoins on bitcoin market. Most of existing altcoins has zero, literally zero impact on anything.
There are maybe 3 to 4 altcoins right now developed by serious teams of people for some purpose other than pump and dump scheme.

I don't really know if it's that much of an exaggeration though... If you go on exchange sites and see the volumes that the top coins are going for, it's pretty incredible to say the least.  Then if you combine the 3 or 4 top coins and that would easily go over 2K BTC or so...

So to say that altcoins don't effect the way the Bitcoin market is behaving is nonsense in my mind.  If those people who are in the altcoin market (only) and wanted to sell out into fiat, they would have to sell off the bitcoin value it represents anyways... so that indirectly affects the Bitcoin price (in a way).
40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There is no currency that banks hate. on: May 14, 2016, 11:15:22 PM
There is no currency that banks hate.  Not if they can make money on it.

Once the regulatory and tax and volatility issues are settled out or predictable, they'll cheerfully accept bitcoin, or even denominate accounts in bitcoin.  Of course the depositor won't have the keys to those accounts.

They'll even offer interest, provided it's slightly less than they can make by loaning those bitcoins out.  And they'll loan it out by handing people (slips of paper that say they own) a particular amount of bitcoin.  Which allows them to loan out more to debtors than they actually have from depositors.

In short they'll just treat it as one more currency.  One that has its own slightly peculiar inter-bank settling channel.

Pay day loans are around because banks refuse to deal with people that are going to potentially forfeit their amount owing.
This should tell you how excepting a bank is of stepping into a new rung of finance, the regulation is the death of bitcoin in my eyes.
You hand them that and its time to go back to the drawing board for a currency outside the government and the banking system.
The point for me is that bitcoin has the potential to work outside both these fields and lately I keep reading people wanting to submit, for what?

That's also a very good point... People tend to want to just stop everything that Bitcoin users have been advocating for years, and that's to create a system without banks.  People want the secure feeling of a "government backed" currency I guess... even though I would trust millions of other people world wide before trusting a few old crusty folks up on the hill secretly dealing plans behind close doors.

Then on the other side, I mean what happens to people who need to take out loans to start up businesses or to go to school to get a college education?

There is a lot to consider when thinking about trying to take down a very fundamental part of normal everyday life for billions of people world wide... A lot of stuff could go horribly wrong, but then again, the current central banking system isn't really cutting it either...
