It seems that bitcoiners hate puppies.

Joelkatz, Thanks for participating here, all the best to opencoin and ripple. Please realise that few here believe this is a conspiracy, but any reassurances you provide, such as pitch and strategy, wouldn't be unwelcome.
The point of the thread is to figure why Average Jane with no interest in business, politics, economics, programming or anonymity, when investigating this new Ripple craze all the friendly ads are talking about, go even further out of her way to look into this novelty bitcoin money she may or may not have heard is created by drug criminals that are some how tied to lots of people in cyprus losing all their money.
And while your at it please answer this ignorant question. If the government of any country wanted you to freeze peoples accounts until they provided proof of idedntity, can they legally force you to?

Two options:
1. Those are the central banks probing how weak is the bitcoin network (and it's pretty weak, can make it crash with less than a 100k)
2. He was sending the payments to himself
Gave them out seemingly at random. Whatever the case they really got some attention.

Some article I read earlier was claiming they were giving them away as a stress test on Gox. That they were responsible for huge numbers signing up and causing the lag.

I think bitcoin could get incredibly popular... but I don't think it could take over the world alone. I think it needs ripple and ripple needs bitcoin.
I don't see why ripple needs Bitcoin. It might simply draw in digital currency users by accepting it. Doesn't necessarily promise an advantage to btc.

You could have made an earlier deposit of 100 BTC at a trusted Ripple Gateway (your Bank in effect) and then give their IOU of 100 BTC to Jill (a check in effect) and if she trusts your bank (or the Ripple Gateway she trusts in turn trusts your bank) then she will take that instead of real coins and she can cash that any time at her Ripple Gateway.
Much faster and cheaper than a transfer of real coins through the blockchain but it's Banking. Distributed banking but banking nonetheless.
Sort of like a cheque? It's true it includes BTC, which is nice, but what motivation would a person have for changing their USD to BTC when they can just as easily send USD. No one likes banking, but its what we are used to, most of us need some serious motivation in order to change our ways. Ripple accepting BTC, kinda seems like Amazon providing internet sales service for Borders. If people really wanted borders, they would by through amazon. If they wanted anything else, they'd still buy through amazon.

What's Mikecoin worth these days? I could trade you some Taz-debt, I've got a hell of a lot of that.

Ok, the small fee destruction makes sense. What I'm ineloquently asking is, why would the average person be interested in bitcoin, now there is a business offering an instant, free-ish, currently anonymous way of sending money?

Could Ripple XRP replace bitcoin before it is widely accepted? If ripple allows users to send money instantly and almost fee free, with a pretty and easy to use UI. Plenty of money to burn on advertising and reputation building. Business and Financial connections likely to get them accepted on large merchant sites. Why would the average person have any interest in Bitcoin?
More important could Ripple become controlled by business or government?
I'm not suggesting any of this is fact. Just wanna hear the opinions of people that actually know stuff.

Why did god create Adam before he created eve?
Because he didn't want anyone telling him how to make Adam.
