21  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 13, 2015, 09:12:06 PM
Hi zOU,
The frequency setting is totally irrelevant to my discussion and is only to show what a single line entry might look like, thus exposing the syntax. (apparently you can break it into two lines if you wish)  Frequency can be easily set in minera-cgminer because they give you a place to plug in your desired number.

My point is that if you cannot see that the syntax of what you are entering is 'bad', what you are attempting will never work and you probably won't know why.
22  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: November 13, 2015, 08:41:40 PM
For those running minera-cgminer,  I asked in prior locked threads why I couldn't manage to set my 'suggested share difficulty'.
I received a few responses, not one of which worked.

Striking out on my own, I'll show how in a minute.
Syntax is crucial. It's not just what you type in, but what the ones helping you suggest you type in.

This is an entry I concocted  and made in minera; it works.

--compac-freq 225  --suggest-diff 30

This is the best instruction I received in order to solve my problem. It did not work.
Use :
--compac-freq 225 -suggest-diff 30.

I'll bet you spotted the double dashes on the working entry.
Did you also notice the double spaces before the double dashes?

I didn't notice either of them until today and it became just trial and error that turned out favorably.

is site down ?
No but the site has been under continuous DoS attack on the public merge mining port which makes it unstable. PM for a private mining address if you're not using one.

I have been using a private address provided by mm pool op works fine

Hello mm pool.
Would you kindly PM a private address to me so I can begin my adventure with as few intrusive distractions as possible.
Will wait for an addy before signing up.
Thanks!

I want to balance my two chosen pools at 10% and 90%. I find the balance/load balance/fail over settings but they don't address my issue.
How in simple cut and paste terms can I get to that 'qouta' option that I do believe exists?

How to kill your Sidehack Sticks.
I suppose it had to happen to someone, appears that someone is me.
I found this gigabyte sticker from a sound card or something that had adhesive left on it.
So I tore it in half and pasted a piece over the leds on my two sticks. Turns out (a little too late) that the sticker is metallic.
Ran fine when I hit the hay, but a few hours later I woke and checked things and everything had gone to to hell.
Evidently I shorted something out. Is there any hope for these guys?

For once in my life, I think I got out at the daily top.
Was sleeping and woke still dazed to see 485 and pushed the sell button.
I'll be feeling good for the next little while.
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: need help bitcoin core wallet - where is my coins? on: November 04, 2015, 03:07:47 PM
When you send coins from v0.11.1 (64-bit)bitcoin core to an address with the highest recommended fee, is each confirmation dependent on the next (six I think in this case) blocks, or can there be more than a single confirmation in one block?

I ask only because I sent 1btc and got my 1st confirmation in about 5 minutes (still way too slow IMO)
Then sent 15 btc and it took 45 min. to get my 1st.

Mind you, one confirmation is good for me as I know it's on the network and will catch up in time.

phil

for the 1st contest, the "stock stick" run with only air cooling, can we replace the thermal compound?

same heatsink

and air cooling

24 hour run without crashes

if you want to use a different paste/compound I would think thats okay.

What frequency are you attempting to run at?
My two sticks run side by side at 225 Mhz with a temperature reading of 122F according to Minera (and who knows what that's measuring), and less than 100F at the base of the usb connector or anywhere else when measured with my cheap laser/ir gun (which I believe to be quite accurate).  I just mention because heat is not my problem at all.
29  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Oct 11 to Nov 11 Sidehack stick pool club. on: October 30, 2015, 01:33:06 PM
Could phil/cryptoglance set up a donation worker for me.

I'm #17 on the list as .peptostick
Could you add a .peptodonation worker for me please?

As an aside, my two sticks were nearly dead this morning when I woke up, generating 1 Gh on one stick and nothing on the other.
I unplugged and replugged them, rebooted minera, and they came back to life. Very strange though because they had been running without a hiccup for weeks.

I want to see a 'photograph' of him in prison. Words of his suffering are encouraging, but someone somewhere out there has to have the pull to get a snapshot of him.  No photoshops please though even these would be heart warming.

Diff is purely cosmetic on this pool, and ckpool is designed to give you the best diff for your hardware very reliably. However if, for whatever reason, you want to try choosing a diff, you can set a minimum diff if you are running cgminer with the stratum protocol standardised --suggest-diff command which is supported by both current cgminer and ckpool. If you're not using an up to date official cgminer then you are confined to letting the pool choose.

It seems to take forever for cgminer to down regulate share difficulty (and only then start hashing) on low HR miners. (a 1.5Gh thumb and two sidehack sticks, the former on my pc and the latter on a minera-cgminer pi).
I was given this to use on the pi- but it doesn't work.
/var/www/minera/minera-bin/cgminerStartupScript: line 4: --suggest-diff: command not found.
I did add a space and a number(80) after 'diff'.
Am I correct that the pool will not down regulate until I find/submit my 1st 1K share? Seems so to me and this can take a long time.

Diff is purely cosmetic. You are wrong in thinking it only then starts hashing. It is hashing at the same speed whether you submit one 1k share every 10 minutes or hundreds of diff 1 shares.
You have 4 choices:
1. "It takes forever" - be patient
2. "It doesn't take --suggest-diff" - use the latest cgminer
3. Ignore it.
4. Mine elsewhere

You didn't have to throw in no. 4.
My ignorance can be annoying, and if anywhere like me especially around meal time, but thanks for numbers 1 thru 3.

*Edited as long quote

2700CFM at 0.33HP, my sun server does more air then that and at 110dBa :>

since my little hub got 30A at 5V directly from the PSU..

They actually say 1062 CFM in video.  It could be wrong though it seemed a little dated on video.  It is a interesting designed fan's.  All I use are more traditional round ones.

I am impressed with your hub.  I would love to see how high a stick goes on that.

how many fans? are they 80mm radial design? whats the static pressure? how many rpms? what temps are they in?

is 110 db a or c-weighted <= a/c weighing makes a difference in perceived sound in human ears due to the shape of the ear canal. animals like cats/dogs hear much different)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-weighting

these are 0.33 horse power i believe

these are big and each one weighs  27lbs.  I ran  them around 2007 in construction. that have warnings not to move them while running and  warnings to brace doors as they will close them with air presure and keep children  and drapes away from them. gotta love it

yup servers are LOUD and can move serious air indeed. 110db can hurt your ears long term ( i work at an ent medical practice with audiologists and run pro sound in a band ill grab a sound meter and check)  I have some delta fans kickin around somewhere in the basement

the video is from 2006 I think

these are fairly quiet we ran them in residential houses. and we do have servers at work that need air conditioned environments.

this one you can rent if needed

the old thing is a Sunfire 280R, the 3x12cm fans (Fan Module 540-5088) are louder then a Vax vacuum, I have to yell to talk to the other person! So OK, its not 110 db, but it is rather loud. and they will push on your hand if you have it in the air stream (im thinking 250cfm each)..

also the 2700 is what the factory is rating them blowers for..

I used to use a electric radiator fan out of a car as an exhaust fan, they did 2500cfm and were only 16". I'm half tempted to setup a room to do that again, although the house I'm in has fold out windows, not sliders, so a little harder to setup..

You guys are talking about cooling a stick or two, right? Wink
33  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Oct 11 to Nov 11 Sidehack stick pool club. on: October 23, 2015, 07:50:47 PM
Thought I'd share my misery for the last 24 hours.
Tried playing with voltage and frequency (for the contest) on my two sticks and minera-cgminer pi.
Everything went to hell. Only this morning do I think I got things back to where they were- 24Gh at 225.

Hard to tell from your description what happened. Maybe you could provide more details?

In my case after installing the Y cable, I made very tiny adjustments to the pot then observed the results before making more changes. It took a long time.

Also, since I have two sticks where one performs better than the other, I had to strike a compromise between the two.

Also edonkey gave me this so I didn't have to wait for a 1K share to appear, which is what cgminer seems to require before down regulating my share difficulty. But it doesn't work. I did put a space and a number (80) after 'diff'

/var/www/minera/minera-bin/cgminerStartupScript: line 4: --suggest-diff: command not found

Any thoughts on this one?

That's weird. The "--suggest-diff" option is definitely spelled right. I'm using 32, like so:

Code:
--suggest-diff 32

Can you copy the text from the "Manual Options" setting in Minera and paste them in a reply?

Or even better, can you ssh to the RPi and show us what is actually being passed to the cgminer executable? Something like this would show it to us:

Code:
ps auxwww | grep -i [c]gminer

Here's sample output from my RPi:

Code:
minera   13743  0.0  0.4   3020  2056 ?        Ss   Sep30   3:52 /usr/bin/SCREEN -dmS cgminer-gekko /var/www/minera/minera-bin/custom/cgminer-gekko --compac-freq 306 --balance --suggest-diff 32 -c /var/www/minera/conf/miner_conf.json
minera   13744 10.3  3.8 162088 17344 pts/1    Ssl+ Sep30 3407:48 /var/www/minera/minera-bin/custom/cgminer-gekko --compac-freq 306 --balance --suggest-diff 32 -c /var/www/minera/conf/miner_conf.json

Well, yes to this part-
Manual options
You have chosen to add all options manually, I will only add for you the pools list, you have to take care of the rest.

--compac-freq 225     (This works)
Please do not include the command name or the pools (they are automatically added).
When it didn't work, it looked like this-
--compac-freq 225
--suggest-diff 80

I've only successfully putty'd into an s1 or s3 . I can manage to get the drink recipe. After that, I need my hand held. What's the default user and password for a minera pi? and I'll try again but don't hold your breath.

Assuming you turned the voltage up, since that's one of those things you have to do to overclock it?

What points do I measure the voltage?

I plan on doing some OCing soon. On the far left and right pin of the usb connector?

I find that I only have only two opposing thumbs and this gets in the way when holding probes to the contact pads, reading the multi-meter, and turning the screw. ( I know, turn the screw and re-check, repeat..) Does anyone use alligator clips or mini-grabbers on these pads so you can fine tune on the fly?  Can I safely solder a wire to each of the two pads for easy access to a meter?
38  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2900 TH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: October 22, 2015, 04:37:25 AM
I remember when ck's signature read to the effect 'only ignoring luke jr.'
That's when I tried to figure out who's who or what around here and I came to the conclusion that jr. guy was some sort of a jesus freak who also happened to 'pick up' on ck's early open source? miner and bend it to his liking. This is my current understanding.

To the point, jesus freaks aren't supposed to steal and cheat. This too is my current understanding.
And he's still the only person on my ignore list. Unfortunately in that time the landscape has changed so much and so many people have moved on and newcomers replaced them that the reason for the argument is not known by many of the current people in the bitcoin world - most people think it's a simple matter of "why don't you just make up and be friends?". But search enough and the history on the internet doesn't lie about where source code came from, who wrote it first, what claims were made, and how ridiculous he was, is and will continue to be. Then one can understand why that is not a solution. The biggest continuing problem is I try to remain out of the arguments, but in this world if you don't defend yourself, then people just end up believing the person who shouts loudest and longest and silence is assumed as guilt through being unable to defend oneself. Kano enjoys such fights and I have him to thank for defending when the trolling resurfaces (as it often does). I have no time for them...

Things were more interesting then.
I had a Lot to learn and learn it quick. How to make it work, not necessarily understand it.
Now I learn a little less quickly and without the urgency.
BUT, to stir up the pot only one last time I promise, and I hope LJr. doesn't find this and send a jihad my way.
One admission and I'm embarrassed, CGMiner let me down back in block erupter days. I really think you didn't give much of a hoot, probably because you were busy AND you recognized that this phenomenon would only last 2 or 3 months. I'd think the same if I could have.  But bfg did allow me to light up my table top and it was cool to watch the leds sweep across the surface.

So my big point?  I lost it.  Why does anyone think that bfg is a superior miner and why do they use it.
Everyone from bitmain to bitminor grabs CGminer and incorporates it. Who grabs bfg?
If the better answer is simply 'you got fords and you got chevy's, that's OK and palatable enough for me.

This tape will self destruct in 5 seconds.

Somewhere around here, sidehack expressed there was value in S2 boards.
If I find it, i'll plug the quote in here.

I'm not suggesting they're worth a lot, only that they are or can be useful to him.

40  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: October 22, 2015, 03:29:27 AM
Kind of an aside because I already voted for the 2 boards +25 deal.
But in the spirit of voting often, and because I have 3 fully functional S2's (a whopping 30 boards, sorry no BKWhoppers),
I want to suggest an evensteven trade deal. Boards for Pods. No cash or coin.
You'd have to come up with numbers and mix e.g 2 S2 boards plus 1 S1 board missing no more than 2 capacitors, would get get you one pod.
Or six S2 boards, and 4 S1 to S3 upgrade boards would get you 4 pods. You get the point.
I don't have or expect to have any S5's or S7's and I wouldn't be put off if those who did got a little better deal as these appear to be more critical to the project.

I hope you consider this and I hope you recognize that once you release any 'close to final' payment schedule the UPS man is going to be all over you and you'd be smart to find some extra carts and dolly's.
