21  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: My new projet: an almost anonymous exchange market place on: June 20, 2011, 04:42:30 PM
So, if I'm understanding this correctly, most transactions require a signature (as opposed to a password)? Good, I was just envisioning something like that recently. It should be more secure overall---the only question is how to incorporate that into a web interface. Actually, are you planning on including a web interface?
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BOUNTY 22 btc] lulzSec secure, private exchange on: June 20, 2011, 07:56:13 AM
I'm interested in developing a secure exchange platform. Not so sure what you mean by private---is it just that there's no public record of deposits/withdrawals/trades?

I think the stored-password-hash system is ultimately not secure enough for something like this. What I'd like to build is a stored-public-key system something like that for the #bitcoin-otc web of trust. A client sending a command to the exchange server would timestamp it and sign it with his public key, and the server would verify the signature before carrying out the command. I see no theoretical barrier to implementing this in Javascript so that, to the user, it looks just like entering a password at any other site---but it sounds hard, and you'd have to figure out where to store the private key on the client's end. Building a standalone client application that calls GPG for the signing would be easier but probably less used.
23  Economy / Economics / Re: Huge Bitcoin sell off due to a compromised account - rollback on: June 19, 2011, 08:58:30 PM
This is not as bad as it could have been---at least if Tux is willing to pay for lost money out of pocket (Pwye knows he has enough).

It's still pretty fucking bad, though. I am done with MtGox. Maybe it's time to look more closely at that open-source trading platform idea.
24  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mt. Gox API problems on: June 19, 2011, 07:02:28 AM
I'm having the same problem, except that I get
Code:
{"error":"Not logged in. <a href='\/users\/login'>Log in<\/a>"}
which is a bit less reasonable than what you're getting.

Watching this thread.
26  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: help. Newbie wants to buy very small amount of BTC. Anyone willing to sell? on: June 18, 2011, 07:35:51 AM
Yeah that's it, whoops!
27  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Electronic Cigarettes on: June 18, 2011, 06:07:44 AM
Wow, this is an incredibly easy way to sell things... you can put a "buy it now" button right in the forums. That never occurred to me, and it's pretty cool. If business goes well, will you be rebuilding ElectricDrag?

I quit smoking about a year and a half ago. I've been really curious about e-cigarettes ever since I heard of them, but I'm afraid starting up with them would only make me crave the real thing again. But if I were still a smoker, I'd probably be a customer!

You could sign up for Bitcoin Rewards... it's a pretty easy way to get a small amount of bitcoin.
29  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Quadrillion Dollar Giveaway! (over but still selling) on: June 18, 2011, 05:56:24 AM
Noitev, do you have any Z$100T notes? If you do I'll buy ten or so. Being a multitrillionaire is boring, time to be a quadrillionaire!
30  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Quadrillion Dollar Giveaway! (over but still selling) on: June 17, 2011, 04:48:06 AM
I just saw this thread, which reminded me to check my mail, and there was my 100 trillion dollars. Thanks!
31  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Too late to start mining? on: June 13, 2011, 04:20:58 PM
Given that the current outlook for miners is better than when I started, you might wonder why I'm not putting more money into it now. Believe me, I'm wondering the same thing.  Undecided
32  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Eelectrity: How much do you need to pay per KW/H on: June 13, 2011, 12:07:02 PM
How much do you need to pay per KW/H.
kWh ("kilowatt-hour"), not kW/h ("kilowatt per hour").
33  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Too late to start mining? on: June 13, 2011, 12:02:53 PM
Still can't play Crysis though.
I'm half-hoping I stop turning a profit on mining soon, just so I can finally play Portal 2 without feeling like I'm burning money.
34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Too late to start mining? on: June 13, 2011, 08:50:18 AM
Since I started mining a few months ago, the difficulty has increased about tenfold, while the market price of a bitcoin has increased about thirtyfold. Doesn't sound too late to me.

That said, if I'd taken that $500 I spent on mining equipment and just bought bitcoins instead, I'd have turned something like a $14,000 profit (on paper), for a lot less effort spent. I haven't mined anywhere near the number of bitcoins I could have bought.

That said, any fool can predict the past. Mining is profitable right now, whereas buying bitcoins requires a lot more 'faith'. It's really up to you.
35  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitoption.org -- ESCROWED LIVE Bitcoin Options Trading on: June 13, 2011, 07:20:26 AM
Hey, I'm interested in this---I've bought put options in the past as 'insurance' and I may do so again. Or I may start writing calls as opposed to leaving outrageously high asks on Mt Gox 'just in case'.

This question may have been asked already, but I didn't notice an answer: am I able to resell option contracts? I.e. can I buy a call option at a $1.0 premium and then resell it at a $1.5 premium if the exchange rate goes up, without actually escrowing any of my own bitcoins? If not, consider this a feature request.
36  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin will only succeed once it takes the right approach to the decimal place. on: June 13, 2011, 06:14:37 AM
At the current all-time high for Bitcoin, there are roughly three million satoshi to the dollar... or 30,000 mikes.

Personally, if we're going to do anything with the decimal point, I'd rather jump straight to satoshi. We dealt with a 10,000-bitcoin pizza last year, we can deal with a 10,000-satoshi pizza next year.
37  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin v0.3.23 release candidate available on: June 13, 2011, 04:06:14 AM
LightRider: 0.44370502 + 0.07668922 - 2.17039424 = -1.65 exactly.
38  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin v0.3.23 release candidate available on: June 13, 2011, 03:52:56 AM
Everything looks okay from here. I'm seeing my full 8 digits of precision. As others have noticed, a 0.01 transaction fee is still "recommended", but that's just cosmetic.

Another cosmetic request: given the new fee schedule, could the minimal number of decimal digits displayed be either increased to 4, or decreased to 0?
39  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitucopia.com: Grass-fed beef and poultry on: June 13, 2011, 03:42:06 AM
Cool!

Do you have something like a price update schedule? Do you update prices manually, or are they automatically pegged to some other currency?

Also waiting for an answer to grue's question.
