The reason bitcoiners can’t catch Coronavirus:

They have nowhere to go, no one wants to hang with them and all their friends are bots.
22  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 26, 2020, 01:38:51 PM
I’m doing a little research project just for fun (and boredom). I’m looking into the current situation and location of historical bitcoin thieves. Can any of you tell me what happened to Erik Voorhees (feedzbirds, SEC criminal that ran to Panama)?  Also I can’t remember the name of the scammer that ran the weekly bitcoin show that was crying on the video about being ripped off. It was around the time of the MyBitcoin scam. He introduced bitcoin to some restaurant in New York.

Thanks for the help.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Calling the Bitcoin community to help battle COVID-19 on: March 24, 2020, 04:31:58 PM
To help you justify donating if you think you’re too young to care about Covid-19. I’ve read too many posts on various forums from young people that don’t believe this effects them and even joking about thinning out the old people they don’t like anyway. The time span between the OG SARS and the current coronavirus is 16 years. If you are too young now you will be in the high risk group about the time the next major variant of SARS hits the world. SARS CoV-2 is a variant of the original 2003 SARS. SARS (killed 1 in 8 to 10 people that caught it) and MERS (killed 1 in 3 people that caught it) are close relatives of the current coronavirus that’s keeping the world off the streets. The current mutation is more worrisome because SARS has now figured out how to jump from person to person more easily. Look to the future and realize the next variant or mutation could remain just as or become more communicable and have the lethality of MERS (killing 1 in 3). Money donated to research now could help develop treatments and vaccines that could keep that from happening.

TLDR; Don’t be a dumbass and refuse to donate because you think you can’t die from this one. You grow older every day you live. You’re going to be old sooner than you think fool. The next one might kill you if this one fails to do it. Help the medical community keep that from happening.

At the moment, cryptocurrency owners can help in the fight against COVID19 by donating to one of the dozen funds that accept crypto.

That’s the best suggestion yet. Modern bitcoin miners need special software to run F@H. But you could dedicate some or all of your proceeds from mining to fight SARS CoV-2 (Covid-19, Coronavirus).

Hey all, any of you guys know what Bruno’s alt is now? He changes accounts like most people change socks. I need to sent him a pm and can’t seem to find an alt more current than April 2019.

Well, I know he's been out of the action for a while due to real life things I'm not sure I should mention, but your best bet is to PM his Phinnaeus Gage account, as that's the one he uses most often.

He can also be reached on Telegram: @BrunoKucinskas

I thought he lost control of the Phinnaeus Gage acct long ago and went to Gleb. I’ll try Telegram. Thx

A while back (2013) I bought some BTC and followed the advice about devising an unguessable pword and not writing it down..  Instead, I left clues for myself that I thought would be obvious.. a couple of years later when I tried to access my wallet I tried maybe 50 combinations and was unsuccessful.   Contacted the legendary Dave Bitcoin / https://walletrecoveryservices.com/ with little hope, and two years later he came back out of the blue to tell me he periodically revisited wallets he had been unsuccessful in cracking previously and had managed to crack mine.

As others have said, Dave took his 20% and no more; he could have helped himself and to everything and I would have been none the wiser. To top it all by then I no longer had access to the wallet so asked him to transfer the coins to a newly created account.  They were there in minutes. Grin

Dave comes across as polite and friendly Smiley, he certainly is a person of integrity and is honest and true.  He is also incredibly talented. Recommended without hesitation.

Doesn’t it feel strange to speak in the third person? Why would anyone trust a review from a forum member with 1 post?
Yeah nah, Dave is one of the most trustworthy people in the entire cryptocurrency community.

TF, thanks for the laugh. When I saw who posted that I laughed so hard I almost pissed my pants.

After some pondering; I have concluded that Bitcointalk members can be grouped in 4 distinct categories:

A - crypto enthusiasts eager to learn more about blockchain technology and also passionate about the idea of decentralized currency

B - people who like the idea of decentralized currency; but don't have time/interest/background to learn much more than basic knowledge needed to effortlessly use cryptocurrency

C - people who are here solely for income from bounty campaigns (those people are usually from very poor countries and I don't judge them because their economic situation is often the result of "effort" of rich countries)

D - spammers, FUD-sters, trolls, etc.

This is a pretty reasonable breakdown. Like you, I started off as B (I was a lurker for about 6 months before that), then I quickly moved into A. However, I did spend some time being a troll in D, but I think my intentions were good. Not getting into it immediately for the money (or shit tokens) is a sign of good faith that you're hear to do some learnin' and contribute, which separates you from 90% of other noobs which immediately launch into a career of mindless shitposting. Best of luck to you.

I don't always know where to put myself if these were the options, I explained before how I get into BTC, short vers --> play poker for more then 15years, did all the different cash games, tournaments etc but also organised a "HOME" game.
@some point a fella dropped in cause he heard from a friend we were playing.... Now he didn't really was looking for a game but more fore a fun place, smoke a blunt, chill place, play some poker (stakes were not his usual high, i also played higher but it was a fun game etc), now he was an online king in HU playing with no question the BEST from Belgium @ that time and probably a TOP spot worldwide, "HU playing" but he discovered very early the BTC play sides and crushed them all "literally".
of-course he made all in BTC and HODLed as that was his main goal for winning.
Now he was playing @the live tables and lost a bit, if he needed to pay € he had to change BTC of-course and he didn't like to make those BTC-sells etc

Then it happened, i didn't knew anything of that guy and he asked me if he would lose its ok to pay me in BTC and i pay the winner of the game.

me---> what is A BTC?? anno when the price went from 360-ish to ATH "he always repeat i'm the luckiest ever to be introduced @that time"
he ---> highly intelligent guy explained me and provided me everything to handle and so on

then he lose ---> pay, all went good, lucky as i was "i was the winning guy"

then the game changed "No more HOME games with much peeps" only me, him and a select group of peeps playing online for BTC to each other

What i wanna say= i didn't ever hear the name BTC or WO-thread before that single guy, and he introduced me to this world so well so good, always took care for me and learned me so much, i'm absolutely no BTC-tech expert guy, but i no for damn sure he is, i would put myself in CATEGORY B, with the willing to learn all there is to know about BTC-)but i'm just not a good computer guy surely no programmer etc, what i am from CATEGORY A= an absolute crypto enthusiasts....... but when those guys talking about technical stuff then yeah sometimes i lose it and can't follow Roll Eyes
of-course my longterm perspective is what it needs to be to be a BTC'er Smiley

as of today we still play our thing and i learn more and more cause of him and cause of being here, then why am I here, obviously to learn, mostly active @the WO, but also cause its a bit of a chill place were nobody cares if i go OT sometimes and yeah that maybe happens to often Roll Eyes but then again everybody there likes to have a good laugh and the humor down there is pretty good, I also like to share some news there that crosses my path etc

so me = MIX A and B

and i think its better to have some Merit system then no Merit system, as I don't only use it as when i think something = of high quality, I also like to use it when I think something is good humor as for THX as when I see somebody is posting something with best intentions etc

BTW@ OP "QuestionAuthority" .......... long time no see :-/

Oh, I’ve turned into an occasional lurker. If I keep posting here I’m just going to get banned for no reason. Besides, this place isn’t nearly as funny as it was when I first came here in 2011.

A bar of soap can be currency if two or more people decide to trade things for bars of soap. The problem arises when people decide to trade for the soap and then lock all their soap in a basement.

Bitcoin is currency right now but everyone has it locked in their basement.

You’ve probably all seen this already but I thought I would share it anyway.

The bitcoin price touched a fresh yearly low this morning, leaving traders and investors scrambling for answers as the crypto market searches for a bottom. While there are numerous pressures that have weighed on bitcoin as it has taken step after step away from last year’s all-time high, research from CryptoCompare suggests that South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb may have contributed to the recent sell-off — at least indirectly.

The thread is still open so I'm gonna guess you were made a merit source.

I just have one question: why'd you give this guy 20 merit for this post? Most of his posts are cold garbage. When I read them the voice in my mind takes on that of a lobotomy patient. He just trudges through words for the sake of filling bounties.

Not saying you can't, just want to know why. You give them away in bunches of 20 I see... Maybe he applied for meritship here, I apologize for not reading the entire thread.

Running this thread made me realize that guy is the average user now. There’s no brain power left here. Bots puking meaningless drivel, altcoin pump-n-dumpers, bounty hunters, scammers, and campaign managers are all that’s left. 125 page threads of “who’s Satoshi” are the norm because you need to post something to earn money. Bitcoin (the only thing I cared about here) is gone from this forum. Air droplets of cumcoin and tittymilkcoin are the serious discussions now. Bitcoin Jesus has been nailed to the cross and replaced by bitcoin satan.

I thought the merit system (a last ditch effort at redemption) might bring back the fire and I really tried to make it work. Instead all it did was create another altcoin (meritcoin) to be traded secretly on other forums so it can be used by Indonesian posters to make fiat using google translate. Why give him merit? Because he is this forum now.

^ My theory is that there was a bonafide intention to create that new forum software but the development never reached a satisfactory result. Probably many of those initial 6000BTC (is this a completely confirmed exact amount btw?) were spent along the path at prices WAY lower than todays.

IIRC there was also a good chunk that got "lost" when one of the custodians died.

In other words: Shit happens.

Why the feeling that a new forum software was needed is something I don't know as it is a subject I have never been really interested in.

Anyways, at this point I am completely speculating with no base tbh.

The 6000 btc is a pretty solid number that can be confirmed from multiple sources. Even if you just go by the old list of doners it’s in the 3000 range with another 3000 coming from advertisers. Parapan was only holding 200 btc when he “died”. You’re right shit does happen. TBH I don’t really care about the forum software anymore either. There are too many other sources of bitcoin info now and this forum (with the exception of this thread) is nothing more than an altcoin bounty advertising medium. Speculation is fun sometimes though. Isn’t that what everyone is doing here, speculating? LOL

Have you guys read this and, if you have, what do you think about it?

https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/7pfl75/a_public_appeal_to_michael_marquardt_the_original/

Opened it, read like the first few pages... didn't find any single piece of evidence or solid argument about anything. Stopped reading and erased it from my mind. No opinion.

So it’s all just bullshit? Even the part about the new forum software?

Where's that part? I don't know if it is all bullshit, there's a lot of words there and very little meat.

I don’t think you read down far enough. People start to post links and talk about different shit further down. Most of it does look like drama crap but there’s enough realistic shit to make me curious.

Tried again. I am really not sure what you are referring to. There's a multitude of points being discussed in that thread. Maybe I am a bit dense today. What is your hypothesis?

No hypothesis, just curious if anyone believed any of it. Do you think Michael Marquardt is still thermos? Do you ever see a new forum appearing after all these years? What would the final dollar value of the forum be, $20 million, $40 million? That’s some pretty expensive forum software considering SMF is free.

Edit: waiting to see how long it takes for this post to be deleted.

I am not even completely sure if Theymos was ever Michael Marquardt. Theymos could have always been more than one person, or could have been different persons in different periods. Maybe C0bra is Theymos and Theymos is C0bra, or maybe they are the same person. I think c0bra is trolling the poor Bcash bastards from the very beginning, but this is unrelated....

No, I don't think a new forum is happening anytime soon. I don't even see the need. This one is fine. Some features should be added asap though: Like 2FA and a safe, secure, automated procedure for account recovery.

I can't speculate on the price of some vaporware nor I do have any idea what price should be applied to the original Bitcoins without knowing how many there still are or when they were sold.

That’s a good point. Maybe theymos was always the same person but who knows who that person really is? It could even be a rotating job held by many different people. I just don’t understand, why hype a new forum if it was never going to happen? That makes no sense to me. The 6000 btc in donations were given to the forum and rightly belong to the person or people that own the forum. There’s no need to make shit up to cover it.

LOL I am going to get in trouble with Theymos for meriting that.  But it made me cough up a lung.

I’m always here to help smokers with their cancer problem. LOL

Thanks for the merit.   Smiley
