21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT 0.10.2 crashes on: July 11, 2015, 09:20:14 PM
sigh. It has nothing to do with x emulation layer. Just move along, since you have nothing useful to say
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT 0.10.2 crashes on: July 10, 2015, 01:45:20 PM
OMG! It has nothing to do with windows! I was asking about bitcoin client. You obviously have no experience with software like that. Some firewalls (sidewinder, watchguard) use that principle. You have GUI client that you install on windows/linux that connects to the firewall itself to configure it, and watch status. Again, it has nothing to do with desktop!  One more time: could I run bitcoin daemon (on freebsd for all that matters ) and use gui portion (on windows/linux/mac/pcbds) to view status or send/receive btc that connects to bitcoin daemon that runs on a separate hardware? It has nothing to do with VNC/RDP/XDMCP. You, sir, obviously do not know the answer otherwise instead of saying

In effect you've asked "How can I make Microsoft Windows behave like X Windows or Wayland?".
you would just said "no, this is not possible" or "yes, it is possible here is how you do it".
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT 0.10.2 crashes on: July 10, 2015, 04:41:24 AM
that was not the question. the question was: can I run that daemon on one computer and GUI portion on the other computer and connect to daemon remotely so I could manage daemon using GUI remotely.  I am aware of console options, but this is not what I'm looking for here
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin-QT 0.10.2 crashes on: July 10, 2015, 02:55:49 AM
So, I've upgraded to latest 0.10.2 version of bitcoin core wallet. And it keeps crashing. Brings that fancy error "do you want to send this error to Microsoft?" type deal. It is constantly crashing, crying that GUI stopped responding. At first I thought maybe blocks are corrupt, but no that part was fine. So I've studied MS error report log, read bitcoin-qt debug logs, and it turned out to be this bug in qt itself https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-29716
I've tried to run in 32bit color depth and no crashing. Why am I running in 16bit you may ask? Well I'm running full node, that server is on the rack has nothing connected to it but network, power and USB external drive. Software is windows XP sp3 and wallets (litecoin doesn't crash, might have used newer qt or something) Only reason I'm running it on XP is because I connect to it via RDP. VNC is not an option, XRDP is depressing, or I don't know how to set it up properly despite the docs I've read. Otherwise I'd run it on FreeBSD or Arch. So here is the question: is there a way to run bitcoin wallet as daemon in the background and do all full node thing, wallet stuff and have GUI part connect to it remotely from a different computer? That would be the best way and I wouldn't have to deal with *nix or XP gui
25  Economy / Economics / Re: Alexis Tsipras: "Greece will adopt Bitcoin as its currency for the medium-term" on: July 05, 2015, 09:18:22 PM
hah! I was dreaming about the same thing. Probably not going to happen, but it would be cool if Greece adopted BTC/LTC. Useful too. If they get dropped out of eurozone, they would need money to start printing own currency. Which might be dropping in value quite fast. Economy is bad, budget is empty, industry is near zero... No real reasons for own greek money to stay high. So, if they did adopt crypto for at least  cashless transactions, it would be way cheaper for them although might not be most convenient, unless they will adopt physical bitcoins too (paper or coins). This would be awesome:D These are just dreams

CA may refer to:

California, a state located on the West Coast of the United States
Canada, a nation on the North American continent

They list California, a state, in front of Canada, a country?  lol.  Guess that site is Americanized.

Good luck with your sales sir!  Smiley

It has nothing to do with the site being americanized. It is listed in alphabetical order. L comes before N, no?
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnC Worse than Gox on: September 30, 2014, 12:14:26 PM
so, I guess that means I shouldn't be expecting "FREE" neptune they promised to batch 1 customers Undecided
28  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [FAILED]Butterfly Labs 30 day countdown to the end of September on: September 25, 2014, 02:28:22 PM
so, this year we counting down to the end of september again... This time http://www.coindesk.com/us-government-shuts-embattled-mining-firm-butterfly-labs/ I doubt we'll see monarch anytime soon. Good thing I didn't step on that same rake second time

Every, and I mean EVERY, website I visit for the very first time that participates in Google Adsense, I'm greeted with a CoinTerra ad. Butterfly ads used to be blatant, but not that blatant.
You mean you don't block that shit?? I already forgot how ads on the internet look Grin
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 4x BitFury Chips STOLEN on: November 02, 2013, 10:09:12 AM

Heh, very elaborate message for the Russian customs... Do you think they read this forum? If nothing else was stolen, and it wasn't inside job, you didn't lose them, TSA didn't steal them, then one of the customs workers knew what those chips were.. Sorry for your loss, man
31  Bitcoin / Hardware / KnC miner won't get IP... on: October 31, 2013, 09:26:36 AM
so, I guess it still october, so KnC kept their promise, heh Grin
One of the miners won't get DHCP, wireshark shows it tries to get BOOTP instead (who the hell uses bootp these days??) I gave it bootp, yet it just rejects it. Reset in various known ways didn't help... So, what to do? Second miner has huge reject % and not very good speed (way below promised one around 300ghash)
I feel like KnC better than BFL, but somehow I feel ripped off Grin

Awesome thread!
33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 60gh/s Mini - ROI time?, if ever on: October 20, 2013, 02:01:39 AM
hah! I wouldn't pay for that device more than BTC2. 600 watts? Heck, KnC is around 700 for 500 megahash. So no, even with free electricity I wouldn't pay the price they asking
34  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitcoin Lost due to KNC's Late Shipping on: October 17, 2013, 07:20:42 AM
Ok, ok, guys. I understand the frustration here... However. Think of the positive sides? Like other pointed out, KnC delayed only for few days vs months or even a year... Plus they originally promised 300Gigahash rig, didn't they? Here is your compensation... I mean come on, they have created these asics from NOTHING in 4 months. Then unlike BFL, they managed to SPEED them UP not to drop the hashrate. I understand the anxiety, but think positive. Or at least try
35  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Remember what KnC promised in August?! on: October 09, 2013, 07:00:32 AM
I see you are upset
36  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs 30 day countdown to the end of September on: September 01, 2013, 05:40:57 AM
Damn, 60 megahash will be so useless at the end of september...
37  Other / Off-topic / Re: Thought experiment - Hypothetical new competitor to BFL on: August 24, 2013, 07:47:26 AM
buttersink labs? their butter doesn't fly... Seems like it kind of sinking Grin
38  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2302TH added by KNCMiner, difficulty to 358 885 145 before November on: August 23, 2013, 07:35:48 AM

Can someone please try to make a counterpoint to HyperMega's estimate?

3Ph/s*600/2^32 ~ 400*10^6 difficulty

Which sorta makes my Jupiter unprofitable even before all machines are shipped...

So need to consider all angles here.

this is exactly what I was talking about here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279363.0
So... what is the point of mining this fall?? the KnC miners I buy, the more losses I take... Even if I get 100 of them. Even if KnC delivers perfectly on time So what do we do? Mine litecoins?
39  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: picture looks way too pessimistic this fall... on: August 22, 2013, 06:36:48 PM
yes, because game is changing now.

bitcoin mining was removed from geek hands (GPU/FPGA "low cost" rigs) and now, if you don't have thousands of dollars for preorder (free loan) some non-existing machine or/and enough patience to wait couple of months you are simply out and only possibility is just buy BTC and wait.

my last hope is KNC in this game. if they fail what they promise, I will simply leave bitcoin world as a miner.

That's just it. Even if you buy 100 KNC miners... Even if they deliver on time.. It seems like the more you invest, the more losses there will be.  Unless I'm calculating wrong, or doing something wrong with that calculator... Although I did that manually, still doesn't look too good. Only hope is for BTC to go up
40  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / picture looks way too pessimistic this fall... on: August 22, 2013, 08:03:41 AM
Ok, guys. I do not want to be party pooper or anything, but this site http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/ draws rather depressing picture.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but. Lets say, you had $50,000 (yes, fifty thousand united states dollars) laying around. Either in BTC or USD (maybe you ordered avalons and they all came in in april, or maybe you just have stack of cash that you have no idea what to do with it) You go ahead and buy 7 KNC jupiters. That puts you at 2,800,000mega hash per second. Let's say you bought 3 avalons from batch 1. so, now you have 3TH/s. Many think wow, that would be awesome speed or something. Not so fast. Even if KNC delivers ontime, difficulty will be around 232 million, according to http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/ so that fancy farm won't even break even first month. Some people said before (during avalon batch 2 drama) that it doesn't have to be ROI in first month. Well true. However, this is getting large.
All this needs to be housed somehow. 9000w will run you at cheapest $0.07/kWh (cheapest rate in USA that I know of) will cost around $500 or so to run the farm and that is without A/C and A/C is a must. 9000watts is around 30000BTU. So you'd need at least 40000BTU A/C or so. THey are huge air conditioners, with boxes outside and consume something like 6000Watts. 15000watt total. That's about 700 dollars worth of electricity every month... So, what would be the point to mine in this situation? Or maybe I'm raving, Calculations are retarded. So please, correct me. Prove I'm raving Grin However, even without electricity/cooling costs it doesn't look too promising. Difficulty will be up, why even bother with miners? Just buy coins directly or something...
