21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A4 Drop Card Issues - Jig Reflash Thread on: December 18, 2016, 05:07:16 PM
i still dont understand
To fix the A4 the 2 hashing boards must be Re-Flashed with a special Jig that re-programs the hashing boards. These Jigs are very expensive so Inno has shipped one Jig to forum member Longsnowfm. But there is only one Jig that needs to fix all of the A4 miners. So the group here is deciding what is the best way to get all miners fixed with just one Jig.. Hope that helps
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A4 Drop Card Issues - Jig Reflash Thread on: December 18, 2016, 04:48:29 PM
Yes, I am still waiting on the jig to show up.

Also I am looking for a consensus on how we want to proceed.  So far I like the idea of having Prohashing flash the miners, but I want to leave this up to the group to agree.  If everyone is cool with that I will reach out to Chris and we can talk through the details and start to get this lined up.  I will also let Inno know what we want to do to get their agreement also.  Thoughts?
I know that Chris has been in contact with Inno about the problem with coin switching and the A4 miniers. So Inno knows of Chris and ProHash which is good. I had written a email to Dominique about shipping a Jig to Prohash and I got a response that they thought it was a good plan for Chris and ProHash to get a jig however they wanted to ship the one jig to a forum member here first and just as you said let the forum decide how to move forward

As soon as I get the jig I will tear down the rigs and get you the pictures.
I was wondering what state you are located.. I think its better to just have the Jig at one place and not ship it around and chance it getting damaged.. I am located in MO
OK just checked your profile..I see your in CO.. Any time frame when you will get it?

They told me they shipped it with DHL last night.  So I don't know the ETA yet for the jig to arrive.  If we can get these jigs cloned that would be the best of all worlds if we can do it at a reasonable cost.

That would be great if it can be made cheap everyone could buy there own it maybe cheaper then shipping miners round trip?
If you don't want to ship around the jig and worry about every owner learning how to use it, I would be willing to set up a service at Prohashing (Located in Pennsylvania) to flash miners for others in North America.  If we can get the jig, then people can ship their miners to us and I can do the flashing.  We wouldn't be looking to make a profit from the service; we would just want users to cover the shipping cost of the miners both ways and a small fee for consumables.  If anyone's interested, then we can work this out in more detail.
I think we should consider this option to have ProHash do the work. I have been mining there for almost a year and Chris and Steve are straight up guys that are always accessible and this is there line of work. They have there own forum where we could set up a topic just for the flashing progress. I would have no worries shipping my miners to Prohash because I know they are kind of a neutral party and a business. I would vote for this option and then if you wanted to work on a clone thats fine also. Thoughts?

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: A4 Dominator - Pre-Order Group Buy - 280mh, roughly 1000w, $1800 + shipping on: December 16, 2016, 05:40:00 AM
I am getting a lot of questions via PM's from a lot of people here regarding this mess with the A4's.  I can tell you that I know what everyone else knows, which isn't much.  I know people are frustrated and angry.  I know, I am one of the frustrated and angry customers myself.  It has been a week now since Inno said they were going to set something up to take care of this situation with the miners.  But now I am hearing rumors that it isn't going to happen.  I don't have any confirmation yet from Inno.

So I have a feeling we are going to have to work to resolve this as a community the best we can if we can get our hands on the jigs to do the flashing.  I just sent Inno and email suggesting that they can send me a jig and I will try to help coordinate getting this done.  I have no idea if they will take me up on the suggestion.

In the mean time I would like to see if we can get a show of hands here who has a jig or has one coming to them?  If you have a jig, or have one coming would you be willing to loan it to the community here so that we can try to come up with a way for members to get their units flashed?  I honestly don't think it is a good idea to try and ship jigs from member to member all over the country, but I am certainly open to input on the best way to try and coordinate this activity so that we get everyone flashed who needs it.

The next question I have is how many units are we talking about here in the US that need to be flashed?  I know this isn't a small number, but I don't know how many people have bought A4's directly with Inno that are in this boat with a B1 or B2 miner.  So I would also like to get an idea how many units we are talking about.

This could turn into a huge undertaking trying to coordinate miners coming in, miners being flashed, tested, and then shipped back out.  So there is a significant amount of work and effort to do this depending on how many units we are talking about.

So lets sound off.  Let me hear if you have a jig or one is coming.  And I would like to get an idea how many A4's need flashing.  I would like to get a game plan together and start working the plan.  Thoughts?

I have 2 B2's that need to be flashed.
I have 3 units that need flashed. B1 pair and B2 single USA

Please take some pix and instructions of how to use the jig.

Here's some pics: https://www.flickr.com/photos/vinylwasp/sets/72157677783247635/

1. Unplug and Remove Fan
2. Remove the 2 screws that hold the cards into the chassis.
3. Slide out cards, and remove stickers covering contacts on each board (Batch 2 cards)
4. Move the mode selector switch on the Jig towards the Mini Downloader into the Up/Download position (see photos)
5. Plug both USB cables into the jig (they're powered from any standard USB socket). Both lights (red and blue) on the Mini Downloader should be flashing.
6. Place card (with heatsink on) onto the jig.
7. Lower the contacts onto the card using the handle
8. Push the button on the Mini Downloader. The Red light will flash a few times and then the Blue light locks on. This indicates that the firmware download was successful.
9. Flip the mode selector switch into the Down/Decode position away from the Mini-Downloader. Watch the card's LED. It should come on in a second and will stay lit for 5-7 seconds while the jig performs some diagnostics (my assumption, not documented).
10. Once the LED goes off, raise the pin assembly, remove the card, flip the mode selector back into the Up/Download position, and remove the USB cables.
11. Start process again.

That's it. The reflash process takes about 30 seconds per card. I struck a couple of mine where the LED began flashing like crazy at step 7, or step 9, but resetting the card in the jig and/or performing the process again from the start sorted it.

If you can get a Jig, anyone who can handle a screwdriver can do this job if you follow the documentation and keep your cool if LEDs start flashing.
That sounds very straightforward... Why then am I hearing stuff like heating boards and removing parts? Sorry I am just trying to figure out if this is something I can do or not.. If its like you say it sounds very easy.. I got a response from Inno and they said they are working on getting a jig to the USA but have a very limited amount they sound to me like they would send one but they dont know who to send it to.

Lightfoot was outlining how he could do it with just a bag of chips and without a jig.
I read that post from lightfoot but that sounds more difficult and expensive...Why not just flash it if its as easy as it sounds?

Personally I know they are shipping a jig to perform the upgrades to a group of us in Canada.  And we are suppose to pass it along to anyone we know also in Canada needing the upgrade.  I am not sure about the states and the group buy but all it takes is an email to them.

Please take some pix and instructions of how to use the jig.
I haven't heard anything about it yet other than there is some kind of jig.
I did hear that Chloe was looking for someone in the US to be a clearing house for the fix, but nothing beyond that.
SO it looks like we have a jig in NZ and now one on the way to Canada.. We need someone from the USA now that knows how to perform this fix. I already put in a email to Chloe about the fix but have not herd back.. We need others from the USA to contact Chloe about getting one for the States.. I will take delivery of it but would do no good as I dont know how to do the flash fix.. Who in the USA can do this fix? Maybe its not that hard? If not I will take one here and do it

Anyone hear any details about the replacement chips yet?

Sounds like they are going to have us ship our miners to be flashed.  I haven't heard any additional details yet.
Where dd you hear this about shipping miners? I am ready to do something but need to know what to do

Maybe we should start a list of how many B1 and B2 miners need re-flashing and where you live so we have a better idea how to move forward. Any word from Chloe? This should not be taking so long they need to make this right

Working fine on h2c, but getting around 250MHash on ProHashing. Nicehash goes from 200 to 250. And MRR around 240.
Are you running Batch 3? Any dropouts or restarts yet? What are you running for MV? Thanks

Not sure if batch 2 or 3. Where can i see it? Version 2.0.2 and no restarts working fine at 45-48oC in basement
If your running 2.0.2 that is batch 3 miners. So you should be good to go

And finally the news you've all been waiting for. It fixes the restarts !! Here's a link to some photos of the jig and the process along with a  screenshot of two of them mining away happily on ProHashing over 8 hours after I restarted them (see the time elapsed since first share submitted).
*nod* Looks pretty simple, they don't have to swap the chips (which is a pain) which is good.

Hi lightfoot.. Any word on if you will be getting a jig? This is great news that the fix will turn the miners into a batch 3 so they will all be compatible with each other.. I will gladly pay you for your time to re-flash my 3 cubes if you get a jig.. I can remove the cards myself if it would make it more easy for you.. Thanks!

I just got some good news from Chloe.  They are planning to arrange to flash or upgrade the MCU's.  They are looking for someone who can flash the units in the US or replace the MCU's.  I will reach out to @lightfoot to see if he is interested.  Inno plans to pay for this repair.
Sure. Would be happy to help.

Neat. Any chance someone can post pictures of the gen 1, 2 and 3 boards, along with the controllers. Curious if there are any board specific changes.
Lightfoot, I don't know what the root cause is, but I can tell everyone here that there's a fix coming from Inno.
Here's a slightly edited excerpt of an email I received from Chloe.

Hello Vinylwasp,

We have solved the restart and reboot problem in batch 3. No update in hardware but the firmware in STM32 MCU and SD card both have updates.
SD card firmware has been upgraded to v2.0.1. For ST MCU firmware, we will send you a testing jig (which is expensive) and user manual to update.
For smaller batch one and batch two buyers who bought less than 50 units, we will send them new STM32 MCU for local replacement, but will need them to find local expertise to execute that.
.

I replied suggesting that Chloe reach out to Longsnowsm, yourself and/or GenTarkin to discuss how to co-ordinate reflashing the group buy miners after sending you a jig.
I additionally suggested that yourself or GenTarkin could be utilized in your respective geographies to flash units belonging to small purchasers rather than sending them an updated STM32 MCU for local replacement, while offering my jig (once I receive it) and my services down under. I'm based in NZ.

I've been involved in the IT industry for the past 20 years and have seen numerous failures, so this is very familiar ground. Sales promise shipping date, orders are taken and paid for, development takes longer than anticipated (best case targets rarely come true), buyers start complaining about missed shipping dates, testing is shortened -> product has bugs.

So before everyone starts screaming about how terrible this situation is, remember the pressure applied to ship this product, the large investors who laid down $0.5-1M, and the fact that Inno have been working tirelessly to improve both the hardware and the software over the past 4-6 weeks with 3 versions of hardware and 6+ versions of software shipped in this period. Yes they can improve comms but they've got large enterprise customers who are screaming much closer to home in their native tongue and Chloe seems to be the only person in a comms role (btw: I checked with Chloe that it was ok to share the information above). This is the industry we've chosen to jump into for better or worse. I'm hurting too but I knew the risk before I laid down my money.

My personal experience is that the restarts are not the real problem, the problem is that some cards do not restart. To solve this, I've been monitoring each cards work and applying +2Mv to the miner and watching for 24 hours. It seems to be working. I now have miners which still restart all 4 cards most of the time. Not only that my B1's are hashing on Prohashing at around 250-260+ Mhs 2hr avg. and my B2's hash at 270+Mhs.

B1 = 822-824Mv at 1200Hz
B2 = 826-828Mv at 1224Hz

They're running between 45-52 C most of the time, but will drop into the 30's overnight. I do through a lot of cool air at them though so mileage may vary.

HTH
Good news but do you know if they will send a jig to anyone in the USA? I have a Batch 1 set and a Batch 2 single.. Also I can not seem to raise my Mhs on the BAtch 2 single above 1200. When I do it just pops back down to 1200 when I hit start. Thanks

Did they do away with there desktop wallet?

Nevermind I found the desktop download was at the beginning of this thread.

I do not like on-line wallets.  Hackers love to try and break into these wallets. And if the owners of Gamecredit see suspicious activity on your wallet they will lock it down. It says so in there fine print.. And then it could be a big hassle to get your coins back.
Not for me.
